So, what should Nigeria have done? Lifted the blockade? Allowed the free flow of goods into and out of an enemy territory that it had completely surrounded? Let us hear your suggestions. |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_historical_blockades What makes the one Nigeria did to Biafra special or different from those in this list? Or to use Achebe's words, "callous and unfortunate?" |
He is angry because you didn't share the money you collected with him ![]() |
He seems pretty biased to me. How does he turn "it is my impression" into "his ambition drove him into a frenzy?" Is this guy an acclaimed author, or a market woman? Anyway, Nigeria simply was under no obligation to permit food to enter Biafra. Blockades have happened in the past, and no doubt will occur again in the future. Starving your enemy of critical resources (in this case food) is part and parcel of war. The end result in loss of human life was quite regrettable. But could have been avoided if both sides simply had decided to find a peaceful solution rather than war. |

The only reason is because some third world countries don't manage the funds well. Such countries shouldn't be given loans, yes. But for reasonably well-managed 3rd world countries like China, India, etc, why not? A loan put to a good use is very helpful. |
Imagine, USD 20k in transportation fare. Dollars to donuts this money came from public funds, too. I would not be surprised if some NLers we know were in Dutse this weekend. |
A disagreement over a over $20,000 gift to Dandalin Siyasa Online Forum, a vigorous Northern Nigeria online discussion forum, is said to be tearing the group apart. The largesse was doled out at the weekend in Dutse, capital of Jigawa State, by Governor Sule Lamido, following the group’s annual meeting in the city. Our source said that the members were led on a courtesy visit to the governor, who gave the money as “transport fare,” by a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Alhaji Umaru Dembo. The members present, however, allegedly shared $18,000 among themselves. When the information reached the other members who were not there, they expressed irritation as they saw the entire matter as having compromised the group’s integrity and independence. Some of them, according to our source, insisted that the money be returned to the governor. Others are said to have accused the members who made the visit as “insensitive” for collecting and sharing the money instead of handing it over to the forum on whose behalf they had visited the governor in the first place. Following these developments, the management of the forum has now given a 24-hour ultimatum to members involved to return their share of the money. That message was, however, quickly challenged by Alhaji Dembo, who, in a terse statement, told the affected members not return their share of the money as he would refund the money on their behalf. Our source further said noted that Alhaji Dembo, in a post in the forum, noted that he has already booked an appointment with Governor Lamido at which he will return the controversial $20,000 which has generated controversy all day today in the forum. Below is the full text of the message to that effect sent by the group’s legal adviser, Abdullahi Yusuf Imam Imam, to those members who paid the courtesy call on Governor Lamido: “I am directed by the management team of dandalin siyasa online forum to post its decision on this subject matter. Immediately after the attention of the management of dandali was called on what had transpired during and after the courtesy visit to Governor Lamido, the management called an emergency meeting and has this to say; 1. That the courtesy visit to Jigawa State Government House was part of the activities scheduled to take place on Friday 28th by 4:30, but it was not done because there was no response then from the Government House. 2. That it was during the evening event on saturday, that the message reached the management through one of the members Lamara that the Governor is inviting dandali members to the government house on Sunday by 10:am. 3. That most of the management team members and members of Dandali foundation BOT were at the Govt house up to 11:30am, but for one reason or the other the Governor did not show up for the visit at the scheduled time. Most of the members including some management team members left for their respective unavoidable reasons. 4. That Chairman appointed the most senior member and member of BOT Alhaji Umaru Dembo to lead the delegation and handed over the speech to him to be delivered during the visit. 5. That the delegation were representing the entire members of dandali at the visit. 6. That non of the management team members were contacted when the delegation collected the sum of $20,000 from Governor Lamido and distributed same among them selves untill arround 5:30pm when the assistant secretary of dandali called Engr Muazu Magaji who happened to be together with chairman at airport and informed them. Inview of the above, and after making due consultation with members of the dandali, the dandali management team as representatives of the entire members passed the following resolutions; 1. That the action of the delegation to Jigawa Govt House under the leadership of Alhaji Umaru Dembo of sharing the $18,000 among themselves is suppositious and therefore unacceptable. 2. That the management team hereby suspend the Secretary and his assistant from their respective posts till further notice. 3. That the mangement team advise members of the BOT of Dandali foundation to use the appropriate section of the constitution to suspend Alhaji Umaru Dembo from the membership. 4. That all the delegate members are advised to return their respective shares taken from the said amount to dandali management and handover same to Alhaji Uba Danzainab within 24hours from the time this decision was posted. 5. That all delegate members should apologize to the entire members of this forum. 6. The management should handover the money to BOT dandali foundation and apply same to the purpose of foundation. http://saharareporters.com/news-page/gov-lamido%E2%80%99s-20000-largesse-rips-apart-dandalin-siyasa-online-forum |
Crazy. Is this a consequence of global warming or something..? |
pendo89: Never.Kenya is a sovereign state with it's own issues to worry about.Infact, if that were to ever happen, I would denounce my citizenship.Hehe fair enough. I'm just being a bit of a douche, since I don't like Somalia ![]() |
I even wonder why you are involving the US in Pakistan's own. Hindus (represented by India) have been the one kicking Pakistan's @ss up and down for the past 40-50, years ![]() Nobody gets along with Islam...not Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, Jews, or Chinese. |
Still no response? ![]() |
Sagamite: As a religion, in my view, Islam is the most inferior out of all major religions purely because of its intolerance and violence.Agreed. As a civilisation, it has been said that the Western civilisation is superior to the Islamic one, I could not concur more to that statement.Agreed. Even Yoruba civilisation was better.Debatable...certainly as far as science and stuff goes, we were far behind the Arabs/Persians/Turks. In what way would you say that we were superior up to say 1900AD? |
Pakistan oil? |
the kenyans should incorporate somalia into their own country. Or colonize it |
1. Squats: This particular exercise is ideal for developing leg and buttock muscle groups. Stand with the feet at shoulder width a part and squat straight down just after which back up 10-20 times or (reps) with 2 or 3 sets.
Squatting is supposed to be the king of exercises. I've recently incorporated it more into my own workout regimen...I think it will get me pretty nice results. I agree though, weight training is the best way to reduce your body fat %. And building muscle is a lot more fun than (a) killing yourself on a treadmill or (b) starving yourself ![]() |

solomon111: what makes US billionaires deserves more respect ,and russian billionaires less respect? Were you asleep during the 90s? Most Russian billionaires made their wealth through plundering their own country. Buying government properties for a song using political connections. You respect such men more than say the Walton family (Walmart), Zuckerberg (Facebook), Sergiy Brin (Google)? |
His single loan nearly brought down the entire banking system? A loan to one guy, one corporation? That is systemic risk, rather than the ordinary risk one always encounters when you make a loan to someone? I don't buy your explanation....let's agree to disagree. |
1. OK, small amount of money relative to the size of the naija economy and banking system. 2. What of points (b) and (c), which you failed to address? 3. What of the post above, arguing that this is just ordinary credit risk rather than systemic risk? |
I eagerly await your response. |
yeah I think the guy was just throwing buzzwords around. A guy potentially defaulting on a loan is just ordinary credit risk. |
My understanding of the term is an organization which could potentially bring down the entire system if it goes insolvent. But, given that (a) N141 billion is a relatively small amount of money (b) it is a single guy (c) he took out this loan in 2008 and his lack of payment up until now didn't bring down the system then I don't think that the quoted CBN guy's characterization is correct. |
billante: “Given that he (Otedola) had the highest exposure to the banking system and posed a systemic riskReally? I'm either not understanding what this phrase means, or the guy is using it incorrectly. |
Which Jews beat the African in question? Or are you saying because the hospital is called Barnes-Jewish, the security staff there are Jews or controlled by Jews? |
what is the connection between your post above and anything else that has to do with the thread |
bjdon: send in the drones!!hehehe ![]() |
We (the African man) shall get there too, one day. I pray. |
