Arguing with cap28 is generally a waste of time. He views everything through an anti-western, anti-white lens. Nothing is ever our own fault or that of our ancestors, everything is due to whitey's evil.

I reject that ideology not just because it is wrong but because his perspective reduces black people to basically helpless infants whose fate is controlled by their father, whitey.

Yea most languages has internal buffer... C++ has the internal buffer object stream_buf that is created for every I/O operation

If you don't know N, I think that it is impossible to do it in one pass.

You have to know N to generate the K random row #s correctly. And the only way to know N is to pass through the file once.

This was the subtle issue I alluded to in my first post. But it is pretty easy to fix (just reject a random number it is already in your list).

That typically isn't how people define a random subset of size 3 from N objects.

Basically, there are N choose 3 such subsets. And when people say "random", then mean that each of these subsets are equally likely.

Otoh, you seem to be throwing away subsets such as R={1,2,3}.

Right, but he just counts the number of lines to compute N. He doesn't store the line in memory like you do with your list.

Hmm...I think you need to have a function countLines() that first computes N.

Once you have this, then you generate a list of the K row numbers you'll need to grab.

Then you grab them.

Indeed. Property taxes....homes, office buildings, privately owned land, etc taxed. This money is then used to pay for schools, county police, etc.

It was through the property taxes that my parents paid that I went to school.

1. Write a function that determines if a number is prime or not (try to use an algorithm at least slightly better than the obvious one that just tests all factors).

2. If you plan on calling this function many times with many repeated values, how would you suggest speeding up the performance?
