It isn't tribalism you'd be dealing with, it would be xenophobia. These are two separate issues. No country on earth where you can rapidly change the demographics without facing opposition.

Anyway, do as you wish, your plan not mine. My plan is to build up my homeland, not run away from it.

The Ijaw man has grown very powerful in Nigeria, in a short period of time. Quite impressive.

We'll not be seeking dominion over them, rather we'll work along side them to build a great country. They can't turn overly tribalistic to a people that are more than them in number else they'll lose and Igbos are known to be non-tribalist and more nationalistic.
How do you propose becoming more in # than them? Will they not notice large numbers of immigrants and react poorly? They are not fools. You should read up on the Igbo experience in Cameroon and how they responded.

We'll relocate every industry we have in Nigeria and only come to Nigeria to sell our products.

South Korea was not more than 15 yrs older than Nigeria and now they seem 2,000 yrs older.

It's only im.beciles that don't feel the pain in Nigeria and the Western world often ridicule us as the happiest nation in the world.
Tell me any sane man that will be happy that he is suffering? It's only imbeciles which I feel Nigerians are.
I feel you on both of the latter points, man  undecided

I think the best bet is to peacefully partition Nigeria. Let everyone go their own separate way. More realistic than trying to take over Gabon, imo.

What is visionary about relocating your people to a French speaking country?
Chei! the anonymity that the internet provides gives room for too much comedy
The language is not the issue, imo. Googling around a bit, there are lots of sectors (farming, trade) which could be entered, which the locals don't have much interest in.

The problem is, when you move lots of your own coethnics into a country, the natives get restless and unhappy. And even if you managed to do this w/o pissing them off, the existing leadership has a powerful ally (France).

Language imo is pretty much irrelevant, French is not a big deal to learn.

@Obiagu1: I read up on Gabon after you mentioned it. Pretty interesting country. Seems to be a puppet of France though. So not clear to me that it would be so easy to gain dominion over it, even ignoring internal opposition.

Funny people think we are the same. The problem is that we are all Nigerian, most Nigerian males behave the same way.  We all have large and overblown egos that we were born with whether rich or poor. Eku_bear does not act like us because he is not a real nigerian. Same as you. Fake Nigerians  undecided
grin grin grin

I dunno, I grew up in a place with lots of Nigerians. So not clear. Also, you implication that humility is not Nigerian does you and Nigerians a disservice, I think  grin

@eku_bear,

It's disheartening to see the how tensor777 spews so much hate about faggottery or whatever term he uses. On the real, it ain't that serious. My son is my son regardless of whatever sexual orientation he chooses.
It would suck if it were my ONLY son. I'd slap that boy silly if so!  grin I need heirs of some sort, male grandchildren.

But assuming I have some other sons, not the end of the world.

Plus I could use my son's gayness as an excuse to practice polygamy!  grin grin grin Who would judge me? "Eku_bear is suffering so much, his first born son is gay. Maybe a 2nd and 3rd wife would cheer him up. . . "
PoliticsRe: Uganda Gay Rights Activist David Kato Killed by ekubear1: 9:52pm On Jan 30, 2011
@Sefago: So in short, no harassment if you practice it privately? That doesn't sound like full rights to me. Gays pretty much everywhere in the world don't get trouble, so long as they are discreet.

And a quick skim of that article doesn't indicate any increased rights. Not sure if your hypothesis is supported by that article.

How does any parent respond. Anyway as you would guess from my posts here I would assure him that nobody was born a faggott and would try and talk some sense into him.
I would let him know the consequences of being a faggott and do all in my power to draw him out of any friends that are polluting his mind with filth.
I would in fact leave no stone unturned until he renounces faggottry, regardless of the consequences.
It will never happen that I would beget a bloody faggott to be honest. angry angry angry angry
But I assume that if all that fails, you'd eventually come to accept him and get over it? And throughout the process, he would not lose your love?

For me, my son is my son. He'd still get my unconditional love, even if he were gay.

If you think gays will ever get their rights in countries like Saudi, you have another thing coming  grin

Even slavery is not fully eliminated in the world. Not to talk of women's rights. . .

I do agree that they'll get most of their rights in the Western world, though.
PoliticsRe: Uganda Gay Rights Activist David Kato Killed by ekubear1: 9:25pm On Jan 30, 2011
So let me ask you this, @tensor777. Hypothetical situation. You have a son.

And not an adopted son, your flesh and blood. In fact, he looks like a carbon copy of you.

He turns 20. He tells you he is gay.

How do you respond?

You mean we envy people who are suffering in the midst of plenty?
I used to be the type of person who would give money to homeless people. Not all the time, but randomly. But after my latest trip to Nigeria, I've resolved never to do this again. America truly is the land of milk and honey. If you are suffering here or doing poorly here as a native-born American citizen with no health issues, then something is wrong with you undecided

Seeing these dudes begging on the streets and then comparing it with how people struggle in naija just pissed me off.

why should they be criminalized for their sexual orientation.

Anyway, personally at this point I don't give a damn. It doesn't affect me or my life, family, etc in any way. So why should I be so opposed to gays?

Would you trust them with your kids for instance or would you trust them not to gossip and spread rumours about you?
Would you entrust them with your secrets if you were to trust anyone at all with them.
To be honest, it isn't like I've gotten that close to any of them to entrust them with those things. None of my closest friends are gay (at least, as far as I know.)

But if a gay person became one of my closest friends? For example, this Indian guy in my lab who I strongly suspect is gay and who is a friend of mine?

Absolutely, yes. It isn't like he will r.a.pe or brainwash my future son, would he?  grin

Hmm interesting or you just became liberal in college. All those little liberals running along on college campuses being taught by liberal or neo-conservative professors. Lots of my friends who are straight from Nigeria just become extremely liberal after university even if they come in as the most virulent homophobes.

its the forever young logic . . . I am going to live forever young and the world is beautiful

Would never trust homos ever, but I believe they have the right in principle. You cannot take someones rights based on your beliefs. If the principle is solid your subjective opinion is quack.
It wasn't the professors. It was interacting with gay people and realizing that a lot of them are good folk. One of the gay dudes who I went to college with, he wasn't even effeminate. Liked playing basketball, pretty decent at it. Liked the sorts of things most normal, red-blooded American males like. . . with one exception  grin

I don't get your comment about "would never trust." Why are they less trustworthy than straight people, in your opinion?

You should not be as my upbringing was actually quite conservative really. I just believe passionately in the sanctity of marriage and the family circle to be honest.
Mine was the same. I was virulently homophobic even as of 6-7 years ago. But as I met more gay people, I realized that they aren't evil, a threat, etc. Just people with a different way of life.

See  if an MBB firm can match that.
From what I've seen, MBB is not something you do forever. You ideally exit after 4 years to be VP at some major company, or go work for private equity, bank, a hedge fund, etc.

The exit opportunities are pretty stellar, and I think unmatched by most other gigs one can likely do.

Someone I know exited after just 2 years to go work in naija for a bank. I'm sure they got paid. . . and knowing naija it wouldn't even be hard work.

Lol.

I sort of want to do my youth service lecturing at a university for one year. The problem is that it will be taking away an entire year of prime earnings  undecided

I'm not sure how much you'll be able to improve the system by yourself, btw. And there isn't anything wrong with a lecturer not having a PhD, to be quite honest. I TAed some classes in undergrad, and in at least one of them I was way better a teacher than the professor.

PhD is not a pre-req for being a good instructor. Researcher, probably so.

Haha code monkey.  Man dust your JAVA and C++ books and get ready for some fun. They probably were just trying to sell it to you. Yeah true, true try and get your foot in. But I would advise you to try consulting though. Less stressful and you get to the same place. not everything in life is about money.
Lol, funny you mention consulting. This is actually their interview cycle for summer internships. Anyway, it isn't a bad thing to do, the salary is solid ($180kish for fresh MBAs or PhD grads), but the travel is just insane. I don't mind doing that for a short period of time, but not forever. And of course, the money isn't as good as banking and finance. My current tentative plan is to hopefully snag a consulting internship this summer just to learn about the field a bit, then hopefully move into banking when I finish school.

As for me I plan to do a post-doc then go and teach at Unilag. So no fame and glory and money for me, but contributing to the development of my countrymen.
Sounds like a waste of your talent and earnings potential, imo  undecided But your patriotism is admirable.

So they say. But goodluck trying to crack sales and trading with a PhD. The guys in IB dont like too much school ooh. They would likely put the PhD in the equity research department at best or quantitative finance. They prefer undergrads or people with work experience for S&T
I basically thought the same way you did until I went to a couple info sessions this week. For the small boutique firm, the trader I was talking to has a PhD in Chemistry. Chinese guy, did some nanoscience stuff. Absolutely no business background, just extremely smart and good at math.

The other info session was at a major bulge bracket firm. And as you say, they were mostly interested in hiring PhDs as quants, not traders. Still, it doesn't look like you'd necessarily be programming all day at this firm. And they have a good 3 month training program, too.

I'm beginning to think that the best thing to do is to get your foot in the door. Just make sure it isn't something where you are a code monkey.
