tess1: This is just an excuse. It is simple, Moyes was incompetent for Man Utd.
When Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra have past it, why didn't he find adequate replacement for them in January transfer window?
Our football had no direction under him. We had no particular playing pattern other than players running around on their own volition. Sometimes, players will be huffing the ball up aimlessly. We all know that we made the highest number of unsuccessful crosses into the box under him. His style of play shattered a lot of players confidence and these are players who just won the premier league.
A coach that will have a one goal lead and all he's thinking was how to defend that one goal lead when he's supposed to be thinking of how to score more goals. He'll take out an attacking player, bring in a defensive player and will eventually lose or draw the game. Is that a competent coach.
He refused to play some players while overplaying other players. He also over-trained a lot of players which resulted in a lot of injuries in training.
His transfer dealings were appalling. He left realistic targets like Alcantara and Hererra chasing Bale, Khedira, Fabregas only to end up with Fellaini at a price higher than his buyout clause.
What about his pre and post match comments? They were disgraceful for a coach of Man Utd stature. Is it a defeatist comment like "They may well be favourites. Their league position suggests they are ahead of us and they possibly do come here as favourites" ahead of a home game against Liverpool. Or a post match comment after a loss to Man City where he said he would have taken a draw against Cardiff before the match or where he said "I don't know what we have to do to win" after a loss to Stoke city. Al these attest to the fact that he's grossly incompetent.
He crashed a defending champion to number 7 spot on the league. If he was given another year, i am sure we would have been in relegation battle.
I can go on and on with how incompetent he was. He also dragged ordinary Real Sociedad to relegation before he was sacked. He couldn't win at home in the season he was sacked gaining 15 points out of possible 42 points. What does that tell you?
His successor at Sociedad who was a Team B coach at Barcelona have won 22 points out of possible 39 points with the same players taking the team from 17th position to 10th on the league table. Last season he moved Sociedad from relegation to middle table, at some point. You didn't mention that. Talking about playing pattern. This was what you guys said when LVG was coming. I remember there was a lenghty article about Gaal's playing pattern, how his players can control game, do not give possession away, always having possession over the opponents which guarantees game control, etc. So how had having a pattern help us and having a world class coach. Also Everton had a pattern. Everton played a high tempo football, and they were the most feared outside the top four. When City beat United every day, Everton used ten men to dominate City and won 2-0. I think Moyes would have done better if given a second season, perhaps we would have saved ourselves the financial wastages of the last two summers. Again if you look at Chelsea, you would understand that it's possible for a team to move from number 1 to mid table. |

But some of the players were past it. Ferdinand and Vidic have not played football since that time. Evra is using idea to cope in slow paced Seria A. I have not heard of Buttner, Fabio again. Evans, Smalling, Carrick, Cleverley and Fletcher were never fit. Van Persie couldn't work with him. And I look at how Everton has struggled ever since with better spending, I wonder if Moyes is really bad. |

lookandlaff: it was mentioned yesterday that Ihenacho ran towards the wrong corner. I didn't quite get the explanation so don't quote me on this but it was explained on the pundit show last night something about teams having a place where they usually celebrate for tactical reasons so as not to give the opponents an advantage in case of a quick restart and Ihenacho running to the wrong corner to celebrate or something like that.
So no it's not Buhari to blame This makes some sense. It's close to my thought on the issue.
Iheanacho ran too far from his team mates and wanted those 'old' to chase after him. When you come into a team as a kid, you celebrate your goal by going to the established players who set up to goal. Two seasons ago when Iheanacho scored his first goal in a preseason, he ran away from the big boys while signally to them to run after him.
In some other teams, such wouldn't mean. Man United big boys run after Martial and Lingard to celebrate with them. But Aguero, Kompany, would be thinking "who is this kid claiming hero, where was he when we made Man City..." |

"I knew Manchester United need to qualify for the Champions League," Moyes told Sky Sports . "They are a club of status and want to be at that level, if not more. They want to be winning it if they can, never mind qualifying for it. "That's what happens at Manchester United. It's that level." United returned to Europe's elite club competition following a fourth-placed finish under Van Gaal last term, but they appear likely to miss out on the competition for the second time in three campaigns after a 2-1 loss to relegation-threatened Sunderland on Sunday, a result that left the Red Devils six points off fourth-placed Manchester City. Moyes did express some sympathy for Van Gaal's plight and criticised the media for its of the ex-Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach. "There's so much media attention on Louis van Gaal just now," Moyes said. "When I lost my job, he was lauded by everybody in football - by you people, the media and everybody else. Now many of you are the ones saying he should lose his job. "If you got to Manchester United, that's what you get. You get an awful lot of media attention, but I still believe I was the right person to take the job."

Our defence is our major problem apart from Van Gaal. Defence is the foundation. It's the reason I wont blame Schneirdelin now.
Everytime we are being attacked, everyone else up to Rooney and Martial have to fall back to help the defence before we can think of even regaining possession. Schneirdelin would be more worried going to help the right back everytime ball goes there than concentrating on his praimary duty.
The central defence is also not balanced. There are now too many individual errors. But Smalling is still dependable. The problem is Blind and the right back. Jackson is okay, but he plays too many balls into touch, an established defender would win those balls, give a guide and manage to find his man.
Our most solid position was our right back when Valencia played there. Oppositions always move their best wingers away from him because he would tame them. But now, that's where oppositions orchestrate their most dangerous attacks. |

FERDINAND: EVEN PAUL POGBA IDOLISED RAVEL MORRISON AT MANCHESTER UNITED
By Chris Davie
The former defender has named the Lazio midfielder as the best academy star he's ever seen come through the ranks at Manchester United
Rio Ferdinand has named Ravel Morrison as the best academy player he’s ever seen and says the midfielder was even idolised by Paul Pogba at Manchester United.
The 23-year-old looked destined for stardom after impressing for United’s academy sides but problems off the field stifled the midfielder’s progression to the first team.
After leaving Old Trafford, Morrison subsequently struggled to settle at West Ham, Birmingham City and Cardiff City, while he’s played just 53 minutes in Serie A for Lazio this season.
When asked to name the best academy star he’d ever seen, Ferdinand told The Daily Mail : “Ravel Morrison.
“Sir Alex Ferguson said 'come and have a look at this kid'. Me and Wazza [Wayne Rooney] walked out and there was an Under-15 or Under-16 game going on.
“Fergie said he was the best kid he'd ever seen, better than Giggsy or anyone. He was just playing the game as and when he wanted to play. He would slow it down, then speed it up.
“It tells you something that when they were 15, 16, 17, Paul Pogba and Adnan Januzaj used to look up to him and idolise him. This kid was the gospel. But he didn't have the mentality to cement himself in a team environment.”
Morrison now looks set to leave Lazio having been frozen out of the first team, but Ferdinand his still hoping the midfielder can rescue his career.
“It's a shame he hasn't had the right people around him,” said the former defender.
“I’d love to have been able to get hold of him now if he was still 15 or 16. Sometimes you've got to let those kind of people find themselves but I'm always available if he wants to reach out.”

GBR1: To be frank it's not fair to judge some players or anyone under Van Gaal. Over two seasons, the only person who's actually thrived under his leadership is the one who has had the least to do with Van Gaal and his coaching. i.e. the goalkeeper. LVG is terrible. Now he expects us to win Europa with Dortmund, Napoli, and a lot of spanish clubs in it when we can't even beat relegation teams like sunderland? If he like make he win Europa. Gaal na still calamity. |

ChristineC: But nobody forced Loius van Gaal to sell the whole squad. He had all the tools to succeed in Old Trafford but he's blown it. Perhaps he's just lost on modern coaching techniques. The next manager should learn from his basic mistakes, the club cannot afford to keep having a merry go round. I am just tired of this Gaal. He displaced our only player who makes things happen. He was warned from the beginning that Blind was too feeble to be a centre back. Even Rio Ferdinand said so. He doesn't seem bothered if the whole team is injured. |

GBR1: Say whatever you want, we need to move on from a lot of poor players. Rooney is one, he shouldn't be leading our attack or any top team with title aspirations. But we were top of the league before our players injured in November. And we looked like going to extend the gap when we had 6 straight cheap fixtures. But the lads ruined it in the absence of Valencia, Jones, Rojo. Rooney also missed some matches at the beginning of the losses. |

Caveatemptor: Giving Giggs this job will expose him to ridicule. Giving Giggs the job will expose the whole Manchester United establishment to more ridicule. He lacks coaching experience and will be worse than Gary N at Valencia. This is not a time to appoint a coach/manager on sentiment. I have followed Giggsy for all his career and admit he bleeds United through all his veins. The man for this job is Jose Mourinho. The players will respect him and our opponents will fear him. Get Mourinho in and attach Giggs to him in whatever capacity so that when Mourinho finally blows a gasket(and he WILL blow a gasket) Giggs can finally step in after Mourinho has laid the foundation. Only Mourinho will attract top players as it is now. May be DDG might even change his mind. Lol |

chrisley024: Morgan makes long pass jare. Do you even watch him? Long pass to when the striker is moving away from a defender? Only Blind and Carrick do that from midfield. Then, non from our wings. They just cross it, although Jackson has that dangerous crossing. The ball Rooney played to Martial that he cut back to Mephis, which almost resulted to a goal, only Carrick could have seen that pass. I see many like that which go to waste. The player on the ball will still be driving it when a pass in on. |

GBR1: Rooney deserves more blame than he gets. Even when we were on a good form early this season, i remember us dropping points simply because Rooney failed to score. He started this year better obviously, but if he had started the season the same way, surely we would have had more points by now to see us through these difficult times. I remember everything. In fact, i'd say Rooney has done more harm to us than the good Martial has provided. It was in August and September, and we werent in a good form. Those chances you are talking about are like 3. Our form was in October and November. Again what has that time got to do with our game now? To put the whole team's blame on one man is ridiculous. And the team is not creating clear cut chances for him. As at December, we were the poorest in creating clear cut chances. |

LVG chased away the guys with winning mentality in the game. Give giggs the job and get him some good players and see united bounce back. With mourinho it is gonna be anyhow "un-united" soccer. The Rooney basing didn't make sense. The worst is when he put the entire team blame on Rooney. I see Rooney making runs but we havent many players who can look ut to put a telepass through. That's what we had in Giggs, Valencia and even Nani those days. Lingard and Scneiderlin have no long range pass. Darmian went behind the defence line twice but couldn't put a dangerous ball across. |

GBR1: Keeping Rooney is a lone striker is a huge reason for our problems imo. Any striker worth his salt, has either hold up play, pace or good technical ability, the current Rooney has none of those and it really hurts us in attack. He can't hold of defenders, he never makes any clever moves and we all know his dribbling is just abysmal... No real united fan would say no to Mourinho at this point. Rooney was away for up to 3 or 4 matches, Martial was at the middle. We didn't win one match. And we had less injuries at the time. |
