chrisley024: Which match did you watch? Rooney was quiet in the first 25 minutes, then he ran the show from then on. He was tidy in possession even as Terry man marked him up and down. Set up good final third moves by picking team mates, fine dribbling in the final third, unlucky to have a last tackle stopped his fine dribbling on verge of facing the goal against the goalkeeper. He gave the Assist to Lingard for our goal. The chip you mentioned was a 50-50 decision, either to shoot or pass. He did well to beat his man to get into that position, but may be he should have passed. |
I didn't even know Blind slipped. I knew something was wrong with the ball through the middle. |
In my own rating, the MOTM is actually DeGea, followed by Courtois.
|
AdeLaNa1:This is the joke of the century. This is coming from someone who blasted Rooney week in week out. You didn't even say Mata played well, but that he is MOTM. All the rating Do well to read the ratings below:
|
chrisley024:Not staying with De Gea. But your defence gets deeper as the the game wears on when you hold a slim lead. That deepness also requires that you don't rush out high the pitch too quickly from a defensive situation which is not cleared. There is always tendency for someone to be left behind. We played young men along Vidic, Ferdi and Brown, we never had these situations. I have lost count how any times we have had this since Vidic and co left. Butner, Blakket, Jackson have all made us to concede. Last season and this season, I have seen Valencia, Shaw, Blind, Rojo all made same mistakes, although we didn't concede. Those days in our local football, the centre backs always called everyone out. There was always a watching out for one another. If you aren't coming out to draw a straight offside trap (line), someone must call your name immediately. |
airmark:You are right. But I am sure if it was Smalling who was closest to he would have still have the awareness that he wasn't offiside. Even sharp offiside was not something to be encouraged at that time of the game because it could lead to mistakes. Remember how Chelsea defended against Barca in Camp Nou, the were not looking to catch Barca offiside at the slightest opportunity. |
airmark:Even at that he would have been marginally offiside. The experienced guys should have known better. |
SailorXY:But our defence was also a problem. Blind's lack of pace and poor aerial ability was easily exposed. How did we even allow Costa to sneak behind us so late when we were packing the box? |
MaziOmenuko:For the last two games Mephis has come on, he has contributed nothing. The substututions didn't look okay to me. Schneirdelin should have come in for Mata. Then we switched from 4-2-3-1 to 4-5-1. The next sub should have been Herrera coming for Lingard. The margin was too slim to have even introduced careless Mephis. |
Our defending is poor. We even poorer defending set plays. We have played better but they have had the clearer chances. |
If not for injuries we would be topping the league. We were top before the injury spree began. |
GBR1:He doesn't have to chose us. We will chose him. |
Mahrez should be our next signing. |
holllandis:What is in White house? The late military governor governor of Bendel and Kwara State used to visit White house during President Clinton regime like it was his backyard. In one instance he went to White house with our parish priest (Rev Father) in Benin. That's just a former governor, what about an Iroko like Obasanjo? White House that Beyonce and JZ go to everytime. |
We should be able to beat the Chelsea I saw last night. The only person who manages to be tidy on the ball was Mikel. Watford ensured they didn't allow him space to even think, not to talk of gaining balance on the ball. |

Yesterday we played against a team that cannot play on the ground and with the personnel we deployed we were able to force them to play proper football. That's how we got the upper hand. I have always said we were the only big team which had consistent great results over them under SAF because SAF always deployed players who can control and play on the ground against them. Scholes, Carrick, Rooney, Giggs and Park, and in 2013 Kagawa. Yesterday, the return of Carrick was timely while we started Mata. With Blind and Jackson ability to pass and control, we made them clueless when we had the ball. Fellaini provided a balance with his ability to bring down the ball and his slow movements complimented the other guys. We will have to wait to see how we fair against other teams that can also control a game. I still worry over players who are yet to return from injury. We need them. |
chrisley024:My fear too. Our back makes me nervous. We kept a clean sheet but there was so many to worry about our defence. |
Good game tonight. Another game another injury, and our injured players are not coming back. Out defence was a bit of a problem. But that Jackson gave a good account of himself. Rooney had a marvelous assist for Martial's goal after a good team play. Martial had another marvelous evening. If his decision making improves to even 70% of what we used to get from Giggs, Rooney would be scoring more goals this period. Most times as Martial is moving, Rooney is going away from the last man, but he (Martial) Fellaini and Lingard don't see these passes. Martial is just 19, so he will improve so much with time. Sometimes a lob ball over the last man would be enough or some other time a curly pass. |
We could easily have scored 4-5 goals in the first half. Let’s pray Stoke doesn't score the next goal of this match because this defence is shaking. All the 50-50 decisions in the being awarded to Stoke. Rooney goal . |
If only Martial could improve his final dicisions. |

weedtaker:You are right. But will he immediately improve us? Or we are buying our future Zidane? |
weedtaker:The problem is that the team is made up of too many young stars already. If we continue like this we might wait for 5 years more to lift a trophy. |
weedtaker:We should not worry ourselves over an 18 year old. He can't start in the senior team. |
chrisley024:He is in Blind's position because he acts as a CB in set plays. He is doing a great job for us, and he even count steps away from his position to head from other positions, that's even when the ball is not his. That's something Vidic used to do for us. As I said, he is praying because we need more headers in the absence of Jones and Rojo. If he were still on the pitch against Southampton he would have put his head on that ball because it fell to where he could have taken care of it easily. |
weedtaker:Schneiderlin ought to have tracked that run. Even Bysquet wouldn't have taken his eyes off that action, not to talk of a player like Mascherano. We have seen such lackadasical attitude from our players many times this season. I thought with Schneiderlin we had solved that problem. But apart from that he was okay yesterday. |
AdeLaNa1:Mata has performed better in the right wing than in the middle. Beginning from our match in PSV, Mata has been abysmal in the middle except on one occasion we could credit him with above average performance there. Yesterday you implied the players around him are poor and that's why Mata is poor. I want to believe you have stopped watching our matches. Someone is placing undue emphasis on his goal (our third goal). One thing was clear, as soon as the second goal went in, that match was done and dusted. That was why Gaal could afford to take off Schneiderlin and introduce Carrick to gain some fitness. I thought from the second goal on, it was a matter of how many more goals we score, particularly as we were getting behind their defence line. |
weedtaker:We are not talking about midfielder style, but a midfielder with attributes to play as a centre defender. Mascherano, Makalele, will pass for CB than Carrick and Blind. |
olabode89:Mascherano is a beast na. You can not compare. Mascherano at Liverpool midfielder was like having a rock there. Same for Argentina. He wins tackles with ease and goes back to help defence tracking strikers going into the box. Blind has no rememblance to Mascerano. It's like comparing Carrick to Makalele. |
chrisley024:Covering Blind or helping them out? |
