Dadehmola: A hyena that prefers to take free kicks and corners instead of staying in the box to pounce on rebounds & loose balls?
You are a great analyst! 1. RVP cannot travel with the ball even 10 yards 2. RVP is notorious for playing very close to the goal irrespective of the teams pattern. He's done this since becoming a striker in the various clubs he's played in. When he stays there, everything must fall to him alone, other players turn to laborers. There are some players who change their style from team to team, system to system, formation to formation, or as different team mates may warrant. But Van Persie is known for playing close to the goal always. If I bring stat now, una go say I like stats. I beg RVP na hyena. He took his shots even closer to the goal at Arsenal. |

I told you RVP scored 1 goal in 13 matches you said it's a lie. Now see the evidence.
Secondly, if Rooney had not led in goal scoring to extend our lead from 5 points in January to 15 points in March, Man City would have caught us easier than they did the previous City. Particularly when we lost to City and Chelsea in conservative fixtures, then drew against West Ham two weeks later. That's 8 points dropped, not to talk of the ones we could have dropped in previous matches. . I don't know how many times I will prove this beyond reasonable doubt to RVP worshippers. This was the period we made out lead insurmountable. Not yeye slim lead in January. A slim lead can recovered in just 3 games. I need to log out finally from this argument.

tess1: I didn't answer any question. I knew you won't answer the question because you know it will make nonsense of your argument and statement.
Man Utd was first moved on top of Man City on the 24th Nov. 2012 with one point after we won 3 - 1 against QPR at Old Trafford while Man City drew against Chelsea. From this date no other team topped Man Utd till the end of the season.
On the 1st Dec. 2012, Man Utd stretched/extended their lead against Man City by two points (three points lead) after Man Utd beat Reading 4 - 3 away. RVP scored in this particular match which responds to your statement that RVP was not involved in goalscoring when we stretched out lead over Man City.
On the 9th Dec. 2012, Man Utd went away to Etihad Stadium and defeated Man City 3 - 2. RVP also scored in this game and Man Utd extended their lead by three points (six points lead) at the top of the league. This also condemn your statement that RVP was not involved in goalscoring when we stretched out lead over Man City.
And what was the importance of this match if we had drawn it when we were already twelve points ahead of Man City? And you already said Man City lost their corresponding fixture 2 - 0 to Everton.
At that point when Rooney came back, he was riding on the lead that RVP had made Man Utd established at the top of the table.
As a matter of fact, Man City lost two games, drew two games and won four games gaining fourteen points out of available twenty four points during RVP's drought.
This is another BIG FAT LIE. RVP's goals drought was between 30th January and 8th April 2013 which was eight-match stretch, not 13 as you have lied. RVP scored five goals in the last seven games after the drought. Your god Rooney played in four of these games and scored ZERO goals. Was that how we would've won the league? I have since won this argument. You're struggling really. I answered your questions again and again. We were only 5 points over City in January. In EPL 5 points lead in January is tantamount to being tied. We were 8 points above City the previous season in April and they recovered. In 2011/13, if we didn't stretch the lead from 5 points in January to 15 points in March, City would have again recovered. This was the period of real stretch, not 1 points, 2 points, 5 points in December. Do you realize we lost 8 points in there consecutive matches, that's how our 5 points would have disappeared if Rooney had not helped with goals during the period RVP went dry. |

I can easily recall many of his stunning goals for Arsenal, and I'm not an arsenal fan. I never said more goals should be scored from outside the box. I was looking at where Van Persie made his goals attempts in 2012/13 vs where Rooney made his goals attempts in 2011/12. Anyway, never mind. It's not an important stat for this discussion. Rooney himself had to play in midfield while Carrick and Fletcher were defenders. Half of the team was injured for a long spell. Our worst injury season. 2. SAF not listing Rooney against Blackburn at Old Trafford. 3. De Gea debut season with blunders. 4. Welbeck's debut season. 5. SAF unnecessarily rested Scholes against Newcastle. codedguy1: Elampiro, your arguement does not make sense especially when you make it look like a player who is a poacher is not a complete player. Players have different styles and strength and that's what a good coach sees and brings together to make a good team.
If you were a coach you will buy 11 messis as your perfect team. All of them can dribble from half way line and scre and then substitute one of them with a phil Jones kinda player atleast that would show some sorta variety in your team. My argument makes perfect sense if understood that the argument was about a player winning the league for a team like Manchester United. RVP was a top 9 who did his job there, nothing much different from what Kane did in Spurs last season. If RVP were in Spurs, his 26 goals wouldn't take then anywhere. But he went to a team with ready to win the league. Manchester United 2007 Champion 2008 Champions 2009 Champions 2010 lost by 1 point to Chelsea 2011 Champions 2012 Lost by goals difference to City Then some claim Van Persie won it for United in 2013. What a senseless thing to say. Anyone who said that should have his brain examined. Even if RVP scored 40 goals, Arsenal wouldn't be Champions. |

diggz: Hmmmm...! Bro if I prefer/respect a player like ronaldo De lima more to inzaghi ? I will say a big YES........! However,I cannot emphatically say the poachers who need suppliers cannot single handedly win a match because I have certain preferences for players who can create and score. That will be a careless statement bro and I will tell you this; ur non-poachers required a certain level of supply from other players in the for of a simple pass to release them, movements to create space for them to operate, protection etc.....
I am not good with the epistles so I will finish up by saying, the non-poachers and the poachers do need their teammates and both can be match winners or single handedly win matches(using ur terms). Before we go further, I would like you to see this great solo goal by Cristiano Ronaldo. It was February 24th 2007, we needed the win badly to maintain our slim lead on the log over Chelsea. The match was deadlocked, I think it was 87th minute and Ronaldo delivered this from before half line, and then scored. m.youtube.com/watch?v=cTHVc7NHyuk m.youtube.com/watch?v=cTHVc7NHyuk Remember, even when Ronaldo is not in the score sheet, he constantly does these things and tearing opposition apart for the team mates, creating enormous space. This is how to credit players for winning matches. ............. Ronaldo Di Lima is not a poacher or not such a poacher. Ronaldo Di Lima has similar goals as the one above. Something players like Inzhaghi and RVP can never do. Ronaldo Di Lima can receive a pass 50 yards or more yards away, pace forward and even dribble one marker to finish off. He did it many times in his clubs. I remember Ronaldo Di Lima vs out defence in Olympics. He used Celestine Babayaro's wing coming from the deep, after Brazil went one goal up, Taribo was dragged away from the center back to go cover on the wings as Di Lima was running rampage from the wings into the box. |

diggz: Elampsbaba, it is obvious what/who your preferences are however,it will be nice of you not to right off the brilliance of the so called poachers of this world or try to sideline the impact they could have in a game.
And,if memory serves me right the earlier part of RVPs career was from the flanks and not as a 9. You trying to sell the point of,all poachers rely on a solid team to perform won't fly braaaah....! As every member of the team needs to be solid in order for the non-poachers and poachers to score goals.
If you ask my sincere opinion aspa if RVP was " partly the major reason" or " the major reason" why you guys won the league that year,I will respond by saying,YES.....! RVP was "the major reason" you guys won it,even with the poachers goals... I am not writing off the poachers but a poacher cannot single handedly win a match. They rely on suppliers. Unlike others who make it and score it. I respect those ones. I beg we would have comfortably won the league without RvP. We did better without him the previous season. |

Elxandre: Take an inzaghi from a team, and see how you miss those 'easy' goals he scores.
I'd like to mention that RVP isn't a poacher. Do you watch football at all?
RVP at his peak was known for scoring stunners even Messi/CR7 would be proud of. Lol
Have you forgotten his trademark volleys so soon? RVP is a poacher. I can produce his goals/shots from inside the 6 yard vs 18 yards vs outside of the box. Any poacher relies on a solid team (solid 9 men behind) to shine. The long pass from Rooney RVP scored against Villa was one of those few he scored outside of the box. We see average players score such or even better every season in EPL. |

Elxandre: Right now Chelsea miss Costa; an in form Costa, so it's just like saying last season's Costa isn't available too! However, even if he left, he wouldn't have been the sole reason for Chelsea's poor season since their general play from attack to defense is horrible. Chikena! The borded is the obvious reason why we have to be careful who we credit with winning a trophy for a team. Bale was EPL player of the year in 2012/13 but he couldn't have won the title for Tottenham in 5 more attempts. There are some matches Ronaldo won for us between 2007/2008, for instance when he took the ball from when past markers one by one and entered the box to slot in from a solo effort all the way from nearly half line. Messi did same for Barca again and again. Maradona for Argentina and Napoli. Pele for Brazil and his local club etc. Players like Inzaghi, RVP, Chicharito just wait to be fed, and when they score 25 goals, some say they won the league? In a team that was already capable of wining the league. How can anyone say that? Suarez and Sturridge still good small, they can make things happen outside the box and score from such moves. |

Barca were getting found out in the biggest games in the champions league every time, with Messi being marked out playing his false 9 role that was mostly only effective against little teams.
Suarez brought this dynamism I can't really explain to Barcelona. His movement, link up play was something else. I don't need to tell a football fan what Suarez did last season/this season abeg.
He spent about 3 years at Liverpool, and they won the FA cup. Tell me, why did Liverpool experience a drastic downturn of fortune when he left? 1. Suarez may have improved Barca, but to say he won the treble.......... Www. ExaggerationdotCom 2. Liverpool will always miss Suarez. They also miss Sturridge whenever he's injured. Coupled with Gerald's old age, it will always be struggle. Now too they miss Sterling. Someone like you might be tempted to say Diego Costa won the EPL and Capital1 cup for Chelsea. If Costa had departed last summer, you would easily have attributed Chelsea current struggle to that. |

Elxandre: He got Liverpool the FA cup and made them almost winners of the league, scoring a stunning 31 league goals in an average team and only losing it because of a useless slip from Gerard! He gave Barca a final cutting edge and grit they have always lacked playing Messi as a false 9 for a few years. I was sure MSN would end up the best attack in the world before they even kicked a ball. No wonder Enrique said "Suarez is a magnet for positivity"
Suarez is the prince of strikers! So Suarez won one trophy in his many years at Liverpool, yet you credited him as the one who won treble for Barca? I am not disputing that Suarez is a great striker. My arguement is that he didn't win the treble for Barca as you claimed. Do you know when Suarez scored 31 goals, Sturridge scored 21 goals despite having limited appearances due to injuries? Sturridge was almost as good as Suarez. Sturridge was the one who tore our defence apart at Old Trafford. I think Gerald, playing as a center midfielder won the highest Assists that season and he also scored 13 goals. If Sturridge stayed fit, Liverpool would have won the league even if Gerald slipped 7 times in the season. |

Bring that of last 2 matches. That's our where our argument lies. What happened in the last two matches? The only thing you will want to blame Jones for was when he went on tackle on a striker coming at him one vs one at full speed, with another opposing player running wide taking position to his right. He went on a tackle and got the ball, but the ball went loose with no one to clear off the 'piece'. At the time Smalling had left defence in anger to go play as an attacking midfielder. Jones was also just coming from a long term injury and he was left exposed by the DMs and left back player. In same match, Smalling was beaten easily before that incident but Jones covered for him. Yesterday, Smalling was easily waved off the road, but De Gea saved the shot. What I have observed is that Smalling moves out more while playing with Jones. The first few minutes Jones came on yesterday, Smalling moved out about three times, but this time he returned home quickly. |

Or better still, when did Man Utd go on top of Man City before extending their lead over them? You have answered this already. You already said we were 5 points ahead of City in January 2013. What you failed to understand is that were 15 points clear two months on from that time. On March 16th when Rooney again scored a late goal to send us 15 points clear at the top of the league in a difficult game against Reading we didn't deserve to win, after Everton beat City 2-0, Van Persie was on a goals drought. He only scored 1 goal in our two nil win over Everton during that period. That's about two months. Van Persie went on about 9 league games scoring 1 goal (1 goal in about 13 matches overall). |

I wouldn't have responded to this your latest post because i already said i won't, knowing that you'll come up with another twist but i decided to because it's my son who is also a Man Utd fan who first saw and read this your response. He then came to me to ask me this simple comprehension question that "At what point did Man Utd extend/stretch their lead over Man City in 2012/13 season that RVP wasn't scoring? Was it at the time they added point(s) to their first lead at the top over Man City or after they had established and maintained the lead over Man City at the top for sometime?" I then asked for the reason for his questions. He then told me that i should come and read your response to my post.
After reading your post, i laughed and laughed and laughed. I am now asking you the same question;"At what point did Man Utd extend/stretch their lead over Man City in 2012/13 season?"
Answer the question the way you would've answer if you were answering a comprehension passage in WAEC examination and let fellow fans here give you a grade for your answer. You clearly told us we were just 5 points above City in January which was easy to recover or regain. Then RVP went dry from that period. When RVP didn't score we didn't lose matches to drop to 2nd place, instead we started winning more to stretch the lead over them until we find ourselves in an unassailable lead position. So how did RVP win the league? I don't think you realized that at some point we were 13-17 points above City before they recovered some points towards the end. I will need to week by week table adjustment to explain it better. You can see how you confirmed my statement. |
