tess1: I can't just understand how somebody will say RVP didn't win us the EPL in 2012/13. Most of his goals were crucial goals for us to win or draw.
*His first game at Old Trafford was against Fulham who took an early before RVP scored to equalize before we went ahead to win the match.
*Against Southampton who took lead twice at 1 - 0 and 2 - 1. RVP scored a hat-trick to win the match 3 - 2 late despite losing a penalty earlier in the game.
*Against Liverpool, RVP scored the penalty that won the game 2 - 1.
*Against Chelsea at the Bridge, RVP's shot made Luiz score an own-goal before RVP scored the second. We won the match 3-2.
*Against Arsenal, RVP scored the first goal. Rooney missed a penalty but we won the match 2-1 with Evra scoring the winner.
*Against Westham, RVP scored the only goal to win 1 - 0 away.
*RVP score a goal which was the winning goal in 4 - 3 away win against Reading. Rooney scored two goals (One penalty) It was this game that made Man Utd to establish three points gap ahead of Man City.
*Against Man City, Rooney Scored two early goals, City leveled up. RVP scored a stoppage time deflected free kick to win the game 3 - 2, the team established a 6-points lead ahead of Man City and ended City's almost two years unbeaten run at home...............
These are his goals during that season. Na wao! *RVP worshippers. So RVP goals won 9 matches and you said he won us the league? If checked RVP's goals for Arsenal and how they influenced their results you would realize you're just an RVP worshipper. Also try Suarez at Liverpool. RVP is an opportunists who walked into a team that always going to win the league haven lost it in added time of the last match of previous season, even with better performance. |

elrony: elamps I wouldn't be quoting you if u did make a reasonable array of statements. ..
how can a striker who was signed to score goals and possibly get us points (which he did... topping the charts), and contributed to winning the league be said to have destroyed the team structure? ??
what structure are you even talking about
Man City leapfrogged us to the title , courtesy of goals or have u forgotten? ??...
so what are you now saying bro Van Persie and Kagawa coming killed our wingers. That's what we are suffering today. Valencia was the best winger in the league in 2011/2012. He scored 4 goals and had 13 Assists all from open play in 2100 minutes. He was Manchester United player of the season. Nani had 8 goals 10 Assists in 2100 minutes 2011/12. He was arguably EPL best player the previous season. Giggs 2 goals 8 in 1400 minutes Young 6 goals 7 Assists in 1500 minutes. ........ When RVP arrived, football left out wingers forever. Valencia playing 2200 minutes had just 1 goal 5 Assists. Valencia had had the highest Assists among our wingers Ashley who was next had just 3 Assists 0 goal in 1400 minutes. My last response to you till next time. Van Persie and Kagawa come scatter our wingers legs. |

Ignaz: so in the matches that kagawa didn't feature in, assists came? is this how you do your analysis? van persie was almost reaching his end and fergie wanted a one touch, one goal striker. what did Costa do outside the box for Chelsea? a striker's duty is to score and rvp did that to the best of his abilities. take away his goals and you'll find united languishing in the second half of the table. United didn't need RVP to score 89 goals the previous season. We relied on Welbeck who was having his first real season in senior team and Chicha to lead while Rooney playing behind got us more goals than when RVP came. We would have won the league without him. Only the Kagawa part. Yes, we were not used to having such an hyena like RVP and a cool Kagawa all playing far from the backline. The result was Nani, Val and Young having a poor season. |

The plan was to outscore our opponents and their was no other way than to hijack the best striker/hottest striker in the land as at then to the ones already on ground.. RVP's signing was a stitch in time.... Remember d game against West ham?.. Mancini even said RVP was the difference that season, dude won us games we would have lost or drawn the previous campaign. Ignaz: can you explain this more? bring facts. like when ronaldo scored 17 goals or so remind me who won the league and who got golden boot
common sense should tell you that the absence of Paulie exposed the team's defense a bit. what's the difference between 86 & 89 just 3 goals and rvp is the cause? didn't you see the problem came from the back? 26 goals cannot win the league. Neither can 17 goals nor 30 goals. Suarez 25 goals would even be more valuable than RVP's 30 goals because of the work done by Suarez outside of the box. We could say same for a player like Ronaldo, Neymar and Messi. I didn't understand the Paul Scholes angle. Please the problem didn't all come from the back. RVP and Kagawa changed our shape. Before everyone defended deap including the number 10, then we caught opponents with a high speed counter once we had the ball. Plenty of space to run into by the winners. So the wingers had many Assists and goals before RVP came. Valencia had the highest Assists from open play in the league in just 2100 minutes. Nani, Young, Giggs had plenty of Assists. As soon as RVP and Kagawa came, Assist became dry from the wings. |

We actually scored less goals with Van Persie leading the attack. I say it again, Chicharito, Welbeck and Rooney would have gotten the job done more easily with everyone running into the box. Our football before was playing men deep, then almost everyone running at great speed at opposition. Injury was kind to us in 2012/13.

AdeLaNa1: His goal drught doesn't change the fact that we won d league solely bcoz of RVP's goals. SAF's plan dat season was to get the ball to RVP and ensure we scored more than the opponents. How many matches did we win 2-1, 3-2 & 4-3?? With RVP not having a hand in at least one of those goals?? I still cant forget dat boxing day match against Newcastle at OT(4-3)!! 26 goals cannot win league. If RVP didn't come, with less injuries that season and Scholes availability, we would have won those matches 4-0, 3-0, 3-1 instead of those slim victories. He was more clinical the previous season at Arsenal, how come he didn't win the league? Suarez was more clinical in 2012/13 than RVP, yet Liverpool were far far below United week in week out. Elampiro you can make sense sometimes, but when you wan yan Opata u tend to skyrocket the damn thing! Rooney goals per minutes played was better than RVP's in 2011/2012 just before SAF bought them. SailorXY: I agree LvG's methods has made the team impotent. The urgency the team show these days are forced cuz they fear backlash from the OT faithfuls & I sense a couple of players & perhaps Giggs have been urged to deviate from the "philosophy" somewhat! Where the problem lies now as far as I'm concerned is team selections & substitutions. The set up that I can bet my azz will be guaranteed victory 95% of the time they step onto the pitch in the EPL even with his philosophy is not rocket science but it seem a jagged puzzle to the gaffer.
Where I don't agree tho is saying RvP didn't win the last EPL title for Man United. He was head & shoulders above every other player that season. RVP didn't win the title. He scored just 26 goals. Does 26 goals win a title? Suarez scored 30 he didn't win it. RVP scored 30 at Arsenal he didn't win it. RVP was just an opportunists. We did better in previous season. |

chrisley024: hahaha. So it's now by offsides when we know Chicha can cop more offsides in a game than some strikers do in 5 games. Maybe Val, Nani and Evra also played more forward going by your logic. Fact remains he has played majorly as a striker in a 4-4-2 under Fergie and my conclusion is he cannot be depended on as the focal point(doesn't mean CF) in our attack. End of this discussion from me. The offside says it all. Compare Rooney offsides in 2009/10 you will see a sharp difference. Eve this season, last season when he had some time as a striker, you will see a pattern. If you mentioned Chicha, what of Welbeck and Berbatov. Didn't you see their offsides? Rooney played as number 10 in 2011/12. I have again proven this beyond reasonable doubt. As striker cannot start 34 games and have 2 offsides. Common sense. |

chrisley024: Lame excuse. So how did he score all those goals '09/10? No one is disputing the fact he wasn't an integral part of our attack.
The fact is why we were shouting for the reinforcement of the midfield, Fergie, knowing he'd go trophyless again with Rooney as the point man in attack, took a big risk by paying a huge fee for an old injury prone striker. He Knew he needed more goals to win the title. Unless you now know better than him then you should replace LvG. Rooney played almost 3000 minutes and had just 2 offsides. Chicha played half of Rooney's time and had 42 offsides. When you compare this to other seasons you will know Rooney did not play on top. However, it we had Scholes from beginning we would have won the league with nearly 100 points.

Berbatov failed us. Before Rooney's injury which was compounded by SAF' s desire to keep him playing at all cost, we were on top of the league with few games to go, Rooney was toping scorers chart but Berbatov couldn't step in when needed. If we didn't have RVP and Kagawa, we would still have our pacing players like Nani and Val running freely while Rooney sends a diagonal pass from number 10, then he goes into the box to nod in.
