A stark reality that Gaal couldn't or refused to see. How Plato decided to stick with Rooney with all these shocking facts available to him beats my imagination. If Rooney doesn't improve for us, we are doomed. We can't bank on Martial to deliver the goods for us. He's unproven. From 2011 to 2014, the big chances reflected the number of matches he played. It looks more like one big chance per game even under Moyes. The drop from 2014/15 to date is as a result of Gaal's philosophy. But wait, it looks like the big chances (Clear Cut chances) are what he created and not what he scored from. In that case, you have to realize he used to play in the hole where he could create. His position changed under Gaal. |

coogar: how can you have time for back and forth argument when your lies have been exposed. rooney played in several qualifying games for euro 2008 where he was practically useless. teams like israel, macedonia, russia, etc sodomised rooney. had england won any of those games, they woulda qualified before the last game against croatia.
the only once in a generation player that has never been in the top 3 players in ballon d'or. even english players like owen and bobby charlton have made it. messi is extremely generous with his comments....I am sure he's laughing his arse off now. rooney? once in a generation player? there are thousands of players better than rooney.
pay should be proportional to performance.....not according to how much the club can afford. is rooney's performance worth £300,000 per week?
i never knew your half-filled calabash still functions. the same calabash where you saw roy keane playing in a champions league final and messi's foot getting clipped by hargreaves.
no one gives a damn about rooney on this island. there are more pressing issues bothering britain now than a striker that took 13 years to score 50 goals for his country. the british public are starting to wake up that rooney is a failure when barney ronay(guardian sports pundit) revealed in his article that neymar wey don born yesterday has 46 goals in 67 games for brazil.
neymar is 23....had his debut for brazil in 2010 and he's only 4 goals behind rooney that had his england debut as far back as 2003. even a goat knows rooney's record is a disgrace.......and you actually think messi meant what he said about rooney being a once in a generation player? what should we say about neymar then? by the time neymar is 30, he would have scored around 100 goals for brazil.
once in a generation player? more like once in a generation fat greedy pig.
i'd rather celebrate neymar. a 23 year old forward who has already scored 46 goals for brazil. he's 7 years younger than rooney and he's only 4 goals away from eclipsing rooney. neymar had his debut only 5 years ago. it means that youngster averages more than 9 international goals per year for brazil. what a glorious achievement! like i continue to tell you, i don't celebrate mediocrity like you do. my standard is way higher than yours. Now it's Neymar. Same Neymar I supported here on my arrival on this thread and I was thought to be insane. Well if Neymar is 4 goals behind Rooney, it means he 5 goals behind Messi. And many goals ahead of Tevez. Enjoy your day. Kirikatakirita Kirikatakirita Kirikatakirita Kirikatakirita.

coogar: he has never done that for england in the world cup. he always played as a striker.
this is a lie.... ronaldo never played in the middle for portugal at the world cup. almeida, postiga and eder all started as their main striker with ronaldo/nani occupying the wings. james rodriguez played in the hole just behind guitterez for colombia. a number-10 who has a good shot on him will score goals. ronaldo will find it extremely hard to score from a wide position unlike players who mostly operate in a central position. football is not math.....as you can see, you could only name players who mostly play in central positions.
it was because of rooney's poor form that made roy hodgson relegate him to the wing in the first place. by then, half of britain didn't even want him in the starting XI. how can a striker that earns a staggering £300k/week get upstaged by a rookie known as sterling? of course, rooney's poor form meant england were doomed from the outset. as at 2014, Liverpool(the parent club of sturridge/sterling) hadn't even played in the champions league for aeons.
england lost against italy. why is that information missing in your diatribe? balotelli - a bench player for liverpool scored and mr rooney fluffed his lines again in a big game. costa rica that you deemed as the weakest team topped the group with 7 points. it appears you don't actually remember what happened in that group.
england weren't poor in 2010 and 2012. rooney's poor form was the koko. rooney had scored 34 goals that season for man utd and everyone thought england's golden era was before us until fat rooney ruined it for hi country again. england was booed in virtually all the games they played in the group. they couldn't even beat algeria in 2010 world cup and they got quartered by germany's under-21 boys.
lies upon lies.- rooney played the qualifiers of euro 2008. he played in russia and england lost. rooney played in israel and england couldn't even score. rooney played in croatia and england lost. rooney also started against macedonia at wembley in another goalless draw. so how can you say rooney's injury in the last game against croatia in wembley was the reason england did not qualify?
abeg......england didn't qualify cos rooney is shyte! I didn't even read. Go and pay your homage just like Messi did. Without Rooney England wouldn't be in the world cup and Europe. They were eliminated the only one he was injured. His presence alone would have pushed Croatia back at Wembley. I have no time for all these yeye back and forth argument anymore. “Wayne Rooney is for me a once in a generation player. One of those special players, who is not comparable to any other,” Messi said. “There are many special players, but Rooney has exceptional quality and technical ability as well as being one of the strongest players I have faced with an exceptional work rate – there is nobody like him.”
- Messi. http://soccer.nbcsports.com/2015/09/10/lionel-messi-wayne-rooney-is-a-once-in-a-generation-player/?utm_network=facebook&utm_post=4223624&utm_source=FB%20-%20NBC%20Sports%20Soccer&utm_tags=srm%5Bsoccer%2Carticle%5D How many players has Messi praised like this? Messi was the first footballer to say Rooney was HIGHLY underpaid as at 2010. Mr Clement Njoku, I learnt you couldn't sleep on the night Rooney became all time top scorer for three lions. I was told how you lamented all through the night with the realization that Rooney took his place in history among the 43 footballers who have scored 50 international goals in history. Your mind skipped intermitedly in the shock that Rooney is now privileged in the eyes of the Royal family and FA. Something he will enjoy till he dies.
If not that the British people were celebrating the Queen's record reign, you wouldn't get pardoned or amnesty from your company CEO who vetoed the maximum sanction you earned from the gross mistake you made at work on Wednesday as you kept groaning in pains and lack of sleep from thought of Rooney breaking the record the previous night.
Mr Clement Njoku, I advise you for your own good and for the good of your health to let the pains go, swallow your pride and escape shame by porting to celebrating with Sir Wayne Rooney.

coogar: except that rooney is a striker for the 3 lions, ronaldo is a winger for portugal. and we are talking about ronaldo who is the best player for his country shunted wide. rooney has more quality players around him for country than ronaldo does for club. it only takes a lack of form for ronaldo for portugal to collapse. england has proven time and time again that they are better off without rooney. it's only when rooney goes back to the team that england crashes out of tournaments apart from euro 2004 when he was by far the best player in the tournament.
world cup 2006....rooney ruined it for england. euro 2012......rooney ruined it for england. world cup 2010....rooney ruined it for england. world cup 2014....rooney ruined it for england.
rooney woulda been sent back to the midfield when it took him almost 8 years to score 25 goals between 2003 & 2010. there were other productive english strikers in this period but the moment they suffer drought in terms of goalscoring, the media quickly bring out their knives to shank them back to the abyss. whereas for rooney, he can go 20 games without a goal for england and the media would blame lunar eclipse, the calories of burger, the prime minister or the birth of his baby as excuses for his loss of form. it's one rule for the other english strikers and another for wayne rooney.
how many goals does rooney actually need to score 2 world cup goals? comparing miller to ronaldo is an insult. ronaldo is a winger for portugal in all the world cup outings....he's never been a striker for portugal. we might as well expect david beckham to have scored more goals than van nistelrooy.
valencia is a striker, ronaldo is a winger and wayne rooney is a striker. valencia and rooney should be scoring more goals than ronaldo for their respective national teams.
the number of goals is irrelevant if we cannot account for how many games it took them to reach 50. if baba suwe plays 300 games for the super eagles as a striker, he would score 50 goals for nigeria. the rate is the single most important factor here not the sheer number of goals. Ronaldo a winger. Rooney has also played in the wing and mostly as attacking midfielder. Was James Rodriquez a striker in the world cup? Was Sneidjer a striker in the world cup. So we excuse for Ronaldo who had a free role. In last world cup Ronaldo was mostly in the middle. I can count many wingers who have more than three world cup goals from two world cups but Ronaldo has 3 . From Midfield, Gerald, Viera and Schwesteiger scored two goals in world cup 2006. They must be better than Ronaldo. And Ronaldo in last world cup was more in the center forward zone. Lies upon lies. How did Rooney ruined world cup for England? 2014 Rooney had a hand in their only two goals. Did not play as a striker but in the wing and as Attacking Midfielder.
Rooney scored against Uruguay, a draw that should have put them at an advantage to qualify with a weak team left to play in the final group match. As England pressed Gerald gifted Suarez a free back pass to score one vs one against Hart. See yiur lies? 2012 and 2010 England were poor. If not for Rooney, England wouldn't qualify for world cup 2010 and 2014. Also Euro 2012. His goals and Assists ensured the qualifications.
The only qualifier Rooney was injured, England couldn't qualify. Without Rooney, England couldn't get a common draw against Croatia in Wembley to qualify for Euro 2008 . |

coogar: how good is rooney overall? why are we only counting his penalty for england? considering he has only faced shyte goalies from san marino and the likes....even djemba-djemba would hit 100% rate with these teams. rooney isn't even the choice penalty taker in his club.....he would never have been the choice taker if england never had gerrard/lampard.
because he stopped being good as a forward in 2010 circa. scholes started as a forward before being moved back into the midfield.
hell no.... berbatov has a better record and yet i never even celebrated his achievement. 50 goals for england in 13 years is a poor record.
off the top of me head alone.....i can name 10 players in the club & rooney wouldn't be among them. how's he a legend? a striker that has only 1 goal in 10 world cup games is a legend? by the same token, ahmed musa is a legend. does it not embarrass you that each of finidi george & amuneke has more world cup goals than wayne rooney? I don't get you. the quality of positions Rooney scored against are as the same if not better than the ones Ronaldo scored against. It took Rooney 13 years, same period it took Ronaldo. Rooney scored only 6 goals from set plays. So what is the issue about? Ronaldo and Messi have been set play takers for their national teams for almost the beginning. Rooney doesn't even take free kicks till now. Only started taking penalties a year ago. Rooney's goals : 2010-2015 = 25 2003-2010= 25 So you mean Rooney should be in midfield at a time his goals return is better? Y our hatred for Rooney is written all over your argument. You are just looking for areas to rubbish him. You said Rooney has 1 goal in 10 world cup games. How many minutes did he play? He didn't start in 2 of the games coming in as late substitute. He was substituted off in some.
Ronaldo has 3 goals in 13 world cup games, Roger Miller must be better. Roger Miller scored 4 goals in one world cup Italian 90 at age 38.
Enner Valencia scored 3 goals in Brazil 2014. He must be a legend ahead of CR7 using your logic.
There are only 43 footballers in history to have scored 50 goals at National Team level. Rooney is one of them. He is a legend for club and country. All football greats have acknowledged this fact.

We are a bit too quick to trade blames. Was Buhari the president in January 2015 when this whole JP M stuff started ? JP Morgan, however, placed Nigeria on what it called ‘Negative Index Watch’ in January this year and warned that currency controls introduced by the CBN were making bond market transactions too complex to meet its rules. http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/jpmorgan-investors-lose-n311bn-in-24-hours/The kind of undergraduates and graduates we have these days. How can any literate person blame Buhari for the mess and harm done to the economy in the last administration? Nigeria refused to save or invest meaningfully when oil price averaged $110. Instead the money was squandered. If Buhari didn't come everyone would be eating sand now, except those in government and their friends. Oil price is down, and it's only with block of money leakage and refund of looted fund that this current government can even function. |

Then their free locks given to Rooney. I am sure we are looking to nearly 20 more goals for Rooney. How could Rooney have been a midfielder? coogar: you are basically reaffirming my stance. so without lampard's retirement from the international games, rooney would still be on 45 goals after almost 13 years? yes...he scored against brazil! what a proud achievement.....except that none of those games against brazil was a competitive game. Rooney couldn't have done it earlier. Look at Ronaldo and Messi who have been the chief set play takers for their countries. Aguero 2006 to date 36 goals. 68 games CR7 2003 to date : 55 goals in 122 matches. Messi 2005 to date :49 goals in 105 appearances Tevez 2004 to date : 13 goals in 72 games. Rooney 2003 to date : 50 goals in 107 matches. If Rooney didn't have Lampard and Gerald in his team, he would have been taking fee kicks and penalties. He won two of them. It's fair enough. He played twice against Brazil and scored two open goals against Brazil (one in each tie). One with an individual brilliance. sinizia: He ruined it because he doesn't have that striker instinct to hit the ball immediately. He wasted time like he was looking to thread a through-pass from the midfield. As for the last minute gaffe by him, if it was Cr7 or Suarez, they'd have caught up with the ball on time and whip it at the goalie. They take risks and they won't be blamed for taking an aim at the goal post. Rooney caught with the ball a little late but still didn't shoot at the post. I mean, it's the 94th minute, of what value will kicking the ball out for a throw-in bring? Kicking the ball away to thrown in made better sense than trying it from an obvious impossible angle where his head control couldn't slow the ball enough and he didn't have the speed to catch it. If he had shot and a counter resulted at 94th minute, we could have conceded. If it went to a goal kick, a long ball takes it into our own third and we stood a risk of conceding. So throw in was the best option. |

sinizia: I think what's wrong with Rooney are two main problems.
1. Lack of confidence. This factor can ruin any footballer!! It totally ruined Torres' career. Rooney is no longer confident up front or in front of a keeper. The fans, the press, football pundits scrutinizes his every move. He is always looking for a perfect chance to score and doesn't even attempt to strike from all angles. I remember against Aston villa or so, Níhilist pointed out a dumb move Rooney made with the last chance of the match. Rooney was in the 8-yard box near the by-line, with the last kick of the match, instead of Rooney to take a shot at the goalie since he has nothing to lose, the Idíot shot at throwing to avoid the moving ball going in for a goal kick. I mean at 94 mins!! He couldn't even take a risk!! It was at that moment that Níhilist finally gave up on Rooney. I wish I can show you the moment to paint a better picture. He was suppose to have most of his confidence back after scoring three against Brugges. May be he ruined it the moment he missed his first against Swansea. *That last minute added time happened when we were one nil up. Given he had lost scoring opportunity with his lack of pace to catch up the ball, the most sensible thing was to put the ball in touch for throwing instead of a goal kick. sinizia: 2. And finally, Rooney has lost the essence/knowledge of what it takes to be a lone wolf/striker. I wish I can blame Rooney solely for this, but I can't. Gaal caused this presently. Over the years Ferguson mastered the act of taking the pressure off Rooney and allowing Rooney drop into midfield or behind the main striker by pairing him with an out and out striker. It kept Rooney relevant and no-one could blame him for not scoring much because the main striker did majority of the scoring. Rooney-Persie and Rooney-Saha comes to mind. Ferguson knew Rooney had lost the ability to lead our line and made sure he got Rooney a lethal partner. But moronic Gaal thought it wise to give Rooney the sole striker position and we are paying gravely for it. It was already late when he realized the truth hence over-paying for an unknown Martial. Gaal is a natural bastard!!
. You have some point but it's more complicated. Ferguson also admitted blame for not specializing Rooney. He said so in summer of 2008. He said it was his fault for playing him in many positions which have affected his goals return. I will look for that interview. It's complicated in the sense that Rooney could play many roles and he arrived at a time we had a specialist sole striker in Nistelrooy. Somehow, it kind of defined already how SAF was to use Rooney from then on. I think SAF also loved his workaholic part of him where he could chase an attacking midfielder back and disposes him, and all his Barkely/Oxlaid-Chamberlain energetic part of his game in the deep capped with his goals abilities. Rooney requested he played as CF in 2009/10 and he got his wish and delivered. Again, Ferguson failed to build on that but brought Chicharito. Rooney wanted to continue there with a player like Ozil behind him. But I still cannot blame SAF, he probably always wanted Rooney's energy in part of the build up play. As a sole striker, all his energy (when he still had it) goes to waste. sinizia: You once posted pics showing other strikers like Klose and Aguero coming outside the 18-yard box to look for services in your defense of Rooney, but what you failed to understand is that those strikers unlike Rooney don't stray too far to the midfield and always double back on time to drag away defenders in order to create chances for others, while also staying off the shoulders of the last defenders in order to grab any through ball, crossings and keep the defenders busy and on their toes. Against Newcastle, Coloccini and co were never troubled because Rooney was busy residing in the midfield. Drogba would have made Coloccini sweat by constantly disturbing him. Rooney has lost the essence of being a lone striker over the years. Drogba and Rooney don't play the Centre forward the same way. I will recommend you pay more attention to other strikers during matches, also watch Rooney's past goals even in 2009/10 you will discover so many things. Even under Moyes when he had many goals from his CF matches, he always drifted in and out of the opposition defence area. There are many ways of playing centre forward. Take last season Benzema vs Chicharito. Benzema looked quiet and played far from the opposition defenders, involved in build up play, but he find pocket holes to slot himself to score. Chicha on the other hand always looked busy even without the ball, played in and around the box always but he never really troubled when the ball came to him. Also do Giroud vs Berbatov/Robbie Keane. Giroud always stretching his legs to reach every ball into the box, jumping, running, agile. Berbatov calm and calculative. 'No stain me' striker. |

sinizia: You tried o, i couldn't even think of researching for it. No time on top Rooney matter.
Impressive stats when compared to Berbatov. But you have to admit if Rooney was a Bulgarian, he wouldn't be much chanced to square off against top teams like he did with England. Anyway, my anger with Rooney is only on the club level. He can go on a 30-match goal-less streak for England, it's not my fùcking biz; but for ManU, he must deliver. £300K no be moi-moi. The 300k will soon go to a younger player. It looks like Rooney needs a miracle for a turn around because his greatest asset is missing. That is energy and speed in his game. His football now looks more like that of Benzema. When he played against Italy last season, he gave a good performance, even though he didn't score he made Buffon work and hit the wood work with good attacking play. I wonder why he doesn't do it every time. I still pray he turns it around so that I can say I backed him. If only he could go back to working extra hard to toughen up his muscles. He is not even as old as Arjen Robben. Luke Shawn would have just been a waste if not Gaal's intervention. It looks like when he heard he was on his way to United, he went partying. * As for Berbatov he also faced top teams in group qualifiers. Every team in Europe faces small and big teams in qualifiers. The difference though is tournaments and friendly matches. England will play bigger friendly matches for sure. |

The Berbatov's compilation took so much energy from me because I checked over and over to see if I could get missing matches. Note : Teams I categorized as weak are those with no history of major tournament experience as at when the matches were played.

sinizia: But you know England is a top country too, so you'd expect Rooney to face these countries in tournaments or friendlies. Bulgaria hardly qualifies for top tournaments, so the chances of Berbatov meeting top countries are minimal. BTW, Norway and Slovenia no follow for top footballing countries jare. The major problem is the balance of goals between big oppositions and small oppositions irrespective of tournaments/qualifiers /friendlies played. Another problem is that I could not get all Berbatov matches. Perhaps too weak to be captured. Norway and Slovenia are not weak. If you have then in your group in world cup or Euro you won't sleep. |

sinizia: List the same for Rooney, let's compare and contrast. Go and list them. I have put some energy in this. You do some work. Rooney has goals against Argentina, Brazil, Ukraine, Scotland, Uruguay, Switzerland, Slovenia, Norway etc. Even some from Euro 2004 I have forgotten the oppositions. |

Berbatov is a nothing but a weak opposition specialist. You cannot even find some of his national team matches in data base. Perhaps he scored then against Oman. 2000/2001 Iceland 2 goals.
2001/2002 Malta 2 goals.
2002/2003 Albania 2 goals.
2003/2004 Lithuania 1. Estonia 1. Andora 2.
2004/2005 Iceland 2 goals. Malta 2 goals.
2005/2006 Iceland 1 goal. Hungary 1 goal.
2006/2007 Belarus 2 goals.
2007/2008 Luxembourg 2 goals. Albania 1 goal.
2008/2009 Georgia 3 goals. Malta 2 goals.
Goals against quality sides : 2001/2 Denmark 1 2002/3 Germany 1. Croatia 1. Belgium 1 2003/4 Russia 2. Cameroun 2 2004/5 Croatia 1. |

parrotibaba: When player A is a striker and he is used as a midfielder for many games at a club, doesn't that imply that he was mainly a midfielder at the said club? Simple reasoning!
Elampiro: "Wayne Rooney played as a winger for many games in his career"
Me: " So u r implying that Wayne Rooney was mainly a winger for most of his career?"
What is hard to comprehend there?

tess1: What i have said is that he has majorly played as a striker in two striker formation which will always give him an opportunity to score goals.
That's also why i said that the all the goals he has scored in this qualifying has been as a striker. This is now becoming confusing. Rooney has played mostly as a number 10 (SS or AM) for England. He has also played a few games in the wing. Owen on the other hand never played any of these positions except as a lead striker. When I said in my first posts that Rooney scored 8 goals in 9 matches in this campaign, I never attached position to it. So I don't know why it's an issue. He also has scored from Attacking Midfield position. In the world cup he played AM and scored, then provided an Assist from the wing in England’s only two goals. He didn't start the last match. In lead up to world cup, he played AM and scored about 5 goals. |

parrotibaba: so u r now changing post! Quote where I said Rooney played as a striker in his first two seasons at united? After singing "Wayne Rooney was mainly a winger at united" u r now singing "he is mainly a number 10 for united"

Ukwu!!!! You are yet to bring out any comment where I said Rooney was mainly a winger in his United career. You don't pay attention to details and it's not the first or second time. |

parrotibaba: I don't want this argument to drag on for pages so I'd like to end it here. Everyone makes mistakes whether they accept it or not. You goofed up. Sh!t happens. If you delved further into the said argument, particularly between u and coogar, u will see that u were implying that Rooney played mainly on the wings for united n even said that he enjoyed it(playing on the wings). The other day u said Rooney played as a number 10 during the 2011/12 season before Rooney himself cleared the air. EOD You don't know what you are saying. The argument is from page 1388. People can go back to read. You are the only one who misunderstood it. Let me tell you, I have been here since March/April 2013, no one here has ever misunderstood me on where I said Rooney played mainly in his club career. The argument dates back prior to your discovery of this thread. |

parrotibaba: on the Moyes/Dortmund issue ,I think u need to go back to school unless u clarify d statement dat I just quoted
on the Rooney/wing issue ,Rooney rarely played on d wing in his entire united career ,his first two seasons he played as an ss behind van nilsteroy n saha ,so I don't know where u got dat idea from
on the zaha issue ,I hv corrected my mistake You even agreed before Rooney played Behind Nistelrooy and Saha. After indoctrination into opposition group you changed your stance to Rooney was our lead striker except 2012 /13. Ayagayagayagayo hei ayagayagayagayo |
