You may have know alot about football in the past but because you are so consumed in your lust for rooney you have failed to realise what a number 10 does in a 4-2-3-1 formation. its a pity. In that formation who should be driving in from the left and right?....Rooney abi who is in the middle. So in essence at sone point we are playing a strict defensive 4-5-1-1 formation with only Rooney supplying martial and nothing coming from the wings. That you even had to bring up some instances that ridicules the point of having wingers just to defend Rooney goes to show you have lost it.

Please get off the rooney love. Its making you lose touch of basic football intelligence. i feel for you.

even at that....the wing forwards will still be more upfront...the player in the 10 position serves as a fulcrum for the central midfielders and the forwards. ...
NB: the two wing forwards are regarded as attackers..

in a 433 formation, yes.....a wing forward will be more upfront than the person playing 10....

Chai you are a disgrace. You nor sabi ball. So its better for shrek to hit accurate backward passes than hit accurate forward passes that will trouble defenses. Despite that he was still not the most accurate passer on the pitch. mata who is more tighter upfront according to you best him in pass accuracy, best him forward passes.

Mata 36.4% balls forward 29.5 backward
Rooney 13.9% balls forward 30.6% backward

Mata is more upfront than rooney so will find defenders on him quicker than Rooney, how he is able to connect better than rooney with more accuracy as well as more forward passes beats me.
