coogar:Young did not play as substitute that season according to whoscored. He started all 37 minutes and missed only 24 minutes out of possible 3330 minutes. So find another excuse. It is recorded that he played in the AM(C). However, in 2010/2011 he was their main and best AM(C) plying behind the striker. |
In 2010/2011 Aston Villa most used formation 27 times was 4-5-1. Ashley Young was put behind the striker bent, as the player who had the best performances in that position. In their 4-4-1-1 formation, Young was in number 10 behind Agbonlahor who was the striker. 4-2-3-1 Young put behind Carew in number 10 and 9 respectively. Only in 4-1-4-1 Young was in the wing as the best winger. May be this is why he finds this 4-1-4-1 easy. ![]() Guys can you now see that Young did not get this 'productivity' from the wing, that Coogar has been to run pages upon pages since last year. Even this season, he is find wanting in productivity even though he had an outstanding season. He was our most dangerous player. |
coogar:Now I remember. They had Carew who was a threat in the box. That was the guy I was trying to remember. They had wingers who could play in fluid front. Agbonlahor, Milner, Young and Downing. Agbonlahor and Young were mostly the utility players. Look at this. Ashley Young Aston Villa, 29, AM(CLR) Gabriel Agbonlahor Aston Villa, 28, AM(LR),FW Stewart Downing Aston Villa, 30, M(CLR) James Milner Aston Villa, 29, M(CLR) The above is 2009/2010. Ashley Young was the only player among the the 23 players who played for Villa that season, that is marked as the AM(C) Attacking Midfielder Centre. . This tells me those Young stats were gathered from him playing behind the main striker, and may be too in a fluid front. Sometimes I wonder why players who come to us even though they have always been fit start having injuries. Young started 37 mathces for Villa that season with 3304 playing time. 37 matches is = 3340 minutes and Young had 3330 minutes. Perhaps he was sub out just late once or twice. |
coogar:What a sigh! Finally! In defence of Ashley Young, Coogar let down his guards and didnt know when he confessed the truth, nothing but the truth. Coogar peace be upon you. Your sins are forgiven. |
I am not out to exchange words with any one. No long thing... But Coogar, did Ashley Young really play as a winger for Villa or he played in a fluid front? I remember Young, Agbonlahor and one other guy who was good at heading exchanging positions while they attack. This may have even boosted Young's stat you proud about all these while. I wonder why he has never been able to achieve 40% of those stats at United. Just saying. |
SailorXY:Exactly. |
coogar:In this setting ...................DDG RB..............CB.............LB ..................DM .........MF.............MF(dI Maria) ..................AM .........FW............FW This setting Di Maria played is no much different from the Wing Back Young played in. Di Maria also defended in the above setting while playing as a central midfielder and as a winger. He had more ground to cover as compared to a wing back running just along the line with even the LB covering many lapses. |
coogar:Stats are facts. Have a nice day. ![]() |
coogar:Playing in the centre in a diamond setting protected weakly by a back three is more difficult than playing in the wing in front of a left full back in four man defence. coogar:All I know is that in terms of productivity you are talking about. Every thing Young did, Di Maria accomplished in less than half the time in took Young to do it. So no matter the plus or minus in positions played, Di Maria beats Young in productivity hands down. Young has my praise, however he has been in the league far long enough compared to Di Maria. |
People should not get me wrong. I am personally impressed with Young. I even call him our new Ronaldo when yabbing my Chelsea and Arsenal friends. But we should remember stats are facts. Di Maria is the most productive player in Manchester United today. ![]() I don exit. No more long arguments. |
coogar:1. How many matches or minutes did Young play as wing back? Young time as a traditional winger is almost the same as the time Di Maria had there. Young mostly played in the 4-1-4-1. It was Di Maria who was the victim of Gaal using a back 3 mostly during the diamond. 2. Young was the one who played with Carrick in the two times Carrick came out from injury. Di Maria's fitness did not coincide with when Carrick was fit late last year and when we won 6/6 this year. |
coogar:We arent fighting. This is a time we should at least be happy for what is coming next season. Personally I am in a double happy mood in my private life over something, not just Man United. So small small my guy. However, the stats from opta you used in promoting Young arent too favourable to him this time. This is why I always said stats can be misleading. It's always better to look at who is the better footballer. Goals Ashley Young every 1004.5 mins Di Maria every 540.7 mins Assists Young every 401.8 mins Di Maria 162.2 mins. My record shows me Di Maria did not Assist from either Corner or Free Kick but Young Assisted from Free kick. Chances created. Young created a chance every 60.1 in Di Maria created a chance every 31.2 mins. Di Maria came first in our team in Chances created and Assist. Even in dribble, Di Maria is the best in our team. He is 14.9 while Yound dribbles every 27.9. |
Now that Coolie-guy Tortoise is out of kirikiri he is already fomenting trouble. Let me give him a break and also go away for a long time. After all we are back to the UCL sef. Di Maria made the FIFA XI at the ballon d'or. When will Young make it there? All the zillions of players he hyped only one entered, and now he forms a super star. |
Louis van Gaal interview at the POTY awards: On Champions League: "First, we have to play 2 matches to qualify. I have a very good record in the Champions League and I hope I can show that at Manchester United." On Transfers: "It will be a rough summer for a lot of players but a club like Manchester United have to do that. Our selection is out of balance. We have managed to be 4th in the PL, but we have to manage to be champions. I will do my utmost best to ensure that we shall fight to the end and that we make the right decisions when we sign players." On David de Gea: "As a manager I have observed him and seen his progress this season. There's been fantastic development from him. As a manager, that's what you look for the most. That's why De Gea has impressed me the most, because of his development." |
Louis van Gaal has warned the club's fans not to expect too much too soon from new signing Memphis Depay, although he admitted the 21-year-old has "great potential" for the future. And even though he has claimed the Eredivisie's top goalscorer, after Depay netted 22 goals in 30 league appearances, Van Gaal has asked fans to be patience with him due to his youth and his lack of Premier League experience. "Memphis Depay is a young player who has come through the PSV Eindhoven academy system. I worked with Memphis during last summer's World Cup with the Netherlands and he has great potential, "The plan is to help him develop as a player, but we must all be patient. The Premier League is very different from any other league and it will take time for him to fully adapt to the pace and unforgiving nature of football in this country. "Youth is very important to this club and is a very big part of my philosophy as a manager. We have a number of young players in our first-team squad who have benefited from experiencing first-team football this season and that will help their development going into next season." Juan Mata says Manchester United are in safe hands with goalkeeper Victor Valdes, as the club prepare to sell David De Gea. De Gea injured his hamstring during United's 1-1 draw with Arsenal yesterday and was replaced by former Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes. It was Valdes' first appearance in a United shirt since his free transfer to the club in January and Mata assured United fans of his quality between the sticks. Mata wrote on his blog: "We had more bad news when David had to leave the pitch with an injury, which allowed Victor to make his debut as a Manchester United player. "I hope David gets well soon and at the same time I wish Victor the best, always. A goalkeeper like him, so good and with so much experience, is always a big help to any team." De Gea may not make United's XI for the final game of the season, against relegation-threatened Hull City next weekend. [Source: One Hour Behind, Express] ...... The Spanish alliance is on. ![]() |
ElFenomeno1:Kekenaelf, do you two and your guy Henry still think Manchester United will not make top 4? Ukwu!!! |
This season we were terrible in set play- corner kicks and free kicks. A while back, some people proposed that Rooney should be stripped of set plays for Mata. I think we actually got worse from set plays. This should be addressed next season. Ashley Young surprised me this season. This is like having a match winner if there is a good defender playing behind him. He combines best with Blind. He did very well playing in front of Rojo, but Balckett spoilt it all. Shaw is solid defending the left back and bursting forward but he is not as good a team player as Blind. It's looks like DDG is going. Too bad. But we cannot blame him even though we stood by him when he was having a terrible time. Heis just about dumping us after all that, if only he were from another country it would have been easier for us. Let's see who takes over. |
Tval:lo. No mind me jor. ![]() |

weedtaker:Pool (Coupon) matches are matches of Saturdays 3 or 4pm. And since Premiership brand to EPL the stopped fixing 'division 1' matches. |
I think that was pre-arranged between DDG and Valdes. DDG would actually favour Valdes to be his successor. |
Where has Coogar gone to? |
Angel Di Maria admits he is far from happy with a "very bad" first season at Manchester United. Di Maria's tally of 10 Premier League assists is only bettered by Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas but the winger has only started 23 matches in all competitions for United, and he concedes he has come nowhere near his best level. “I’m not happy with my first year in England, I moved here from Real to win titles and this season has been very bad for me. I’m frustrated because I want to do better. “The fans in England have not seen the real Di Maria. I know I can offer a better level. This year was not good enough. “Adapting to English football is not easy. People told me the first year for a foreigner here is hard. And that’s true. My challenge is not for one year, but to become part of the history of Manchester United. “The stadium is unique, the fans sensational – it is a fantastic club. My only frustration is that we haven’t offered the fans our best face every week. My dream at United is still to win the Premier League and Champions League. “Rooney is a leader and has spoken many times with me this season, he has helped me so much to learn about the club. Man United is always required to fight for the Premier League – just like it is for Real Madrid or Barcelona in Spain. “Next year we want to do more. I think you’ll see that we’ll be there.” [Source: Daily Mail, Mirror, goal.com |
chrisley024:Was that it? That's terrible. I remember Buttner did it last season, although we were already winning 3-0. |
SailorXY:You know you have to give some up coming players some playing time in order to make them happy and retain them. Ukwu!!! |
SailorXY:It's painful but we have to move on. It could easily have ended 3-0 in our favour. We dominated completely. However, we are back to UCL. We are better than Liverpool, and it's in our hand to get into the group stage. |
leggo:1. To check Walcott's speed. 2. To give him some playing time to avoid a Pogba like saga. His mistake could have been made by anyone, it would have been however more pardonable if it were from one of the players ho started. He didnt close Walcott enough. However, we had the opportunity to finish them off, but we have not been lucky scoring. Gaal should also look for a striker who can suit this philosophy. We have to be careful in selection of a striker, not just because someone is scoring plenty else where. |
SailorXY:If it were someone like Luke Shaw he brought on to check Walcott speed, it would still have been fine. Blackett has not done anything meaningful since September. Always a weak point and causing nervousness. Ashley Young virtually went to defence to cover up. Well hope we do well to be ready for the play off. The preseason and a few matches in the new season should prepare us. |
If Rooney had played today, some people would have said everyone played well except Rooney. Then some will add that he is the problem of the team. |
