I think we will need a real DM. I still think Carrick even without injury will be having a diminishing return as he plays in successive games. We need a DM who has speed and can pass fluently with both legs. Eevn Herrera appears to be weak in his left, this is why Carrick has a huge advantage. Blind is one leg. |
SailorXY:RVP scored 2 and hit the woodwork twice for U-21. he has returned fresh. With Rooney's injury, I think RVP has another chance now. So we have to wait till end of season to assess him. * You did not arrange your players in a formation. |
SailorXY:Valencia was not in position, he had no way of knowing Smalling would pass into that area where he was not there and he had no way of knowing Falcao would be bullied/fouled so easily. Valencia has no fault there. Hazard was standing with Hererra. Herrera saw all the moves, the intention of Oscar and when Hazard came from behind him. As for next season, we hear every time so so player will not be a regular, after some time they again become important to the team or even indispensable. There are many mistakes in the team. not just from Val's wing. Valencia did not make these mistakes under SAF when he played the number 2. Next season, the team will play more compact. |
AdeLaNa1 Which defenders really have assists. I just saw Blind with just 2. |
Carrick: I still prefer a mascherano type of number 4 if such could be find. Carrick would never had been able to track that Hazard run enroute to the goal against us, just like Herrera failed to. Herrera was the only one who saw the move but his pace let him down. I remember Mascherano tracking Robben twice in the world cup. |
AdeLaNa1:Whoscored credited him with two assists. Although he has played the most time for us behind Rooney, I think he is not so bad considering the way the team is set up. Rafael too doesn't even have a good assists record for us. Remember too, Valencia stays back in the defence during set play, allowing Smalling, Rojo and Jones to join in the attack. That affects a players assists and goals stats. Any way, until a new defender comes next season. |
Kemizee:Too early to say. We had some missed chances in the last two matches. * Let's say you were given 150 million to go to market. Can we see your first eleven? * I think Nani is good at unlocking a tight defence. Hope to read you post tomorrow. I am off. |
ElFenomeno1:He is good, but he needs to go on loan. He only appeared to have done well against Chelsea because Drogba is old, then Chelsea players are already tired from a long season. |
Dadehmola, Chelsea is 20th on interception table. They have the least interception this season. How much do you still really value this interception stat? Per game 1st. Arsenal 20.5 2nd. Leicester 18.9 3rd Man United 18.3 19th Liverpool 11.9 20th Chelsea 9.7 |
* After the Chelsea match, I was the only one among my friends who felt strongly that McNair did not do well. If had I written that here, people would have thought I was making a case for Jones. Drogba had several opportunity to pace away with the ball from McNair but he didn’t have the power to do that because he is old. So what happened was Drogba slowing to try and play with his team mates which made us easily disposes them of the ball. Martinez was smart, he tried using the space between Shaw and McNair for his counters. McNair has to go on loan. * Fellaini: I am beginning to think this guy cannot play many successive matches. He is not jumping anymore. I will have to see him against West Brom to ascertain if he is tired. With new signings, he will have to settle for a squad role next season. Play some rest and play some again. I wonder how weak he will be if he had to play a full season. |
I see nothing wrong with Valencia other than Gaal dishing him one or two instructions. Right from kick off of the Everton match I saw something wrong. We played a high line defence which is now our pattern, this wasn't the problem however, the problem has to do with playing too few men behind the ball. Also of not being conservative in approach. First we had a defence playing high. Second, we had the two full backs supporting attacks as usual. The third thing was the unusual, Blind playing like he was an AM thereby leaving only Smalling and McNair exposed. From the Chelsea's game, I knew McNair was a weak link. Before the match I told my friends I had a problem with McNair being in that position. I want to believe that Carrick understood how best to position himself to play behind the ball and somewhat behind opposition attacking midfielders. Now back to Valencia. If Gaal wants Val to play like a traditional right back staying compact with his other defenders, he can easily dish out this instruction. What we see is Gaal being comfortable with our high line defence. This kind of defence is easily split apart mostly from a counter attack as compared to Chelsea's kind of defence where all four or five players sit deep and play very closely. This where many people think our defenders are not up to standard. Not many players can play in a high defence. Most world class defenders will flop in it. Valencia has done well on the right, even better than those who have played on the left- if defending is just to be used as a yardstick. I want to believe that Phil Jones ability to drift to the left full back to kill threats have been what has covered all the weaknesses from that angle. McNair doesn't have this skill to go and try intercept or kill potential moves in that wing before they get to danger area. Valencia, however is left to do all by himself, particularly, when Smalling didnt have the liberty to roam due to being paired with a novice. This is where a coach dishes out instructions as matches are going on. Or there has to be a leader at the back who could read the game well like Carrick. In all the six straight matches we won, Valencia has gone out of his position to help. We saw him kill moves high up the pitch. We saw him racing to close down Aguero far away from his position on the left side of our defence. One thing is, a team learns to play as a unit. This is more true of a defence. The calamity was Shaw, Valencia and Blind moving out at same time. Then we had a baby defender. Valencia also seems to be unaware that he is probably fatigued at this time. His recovering time and concentration will be affected. We were up against two Everton wingers who have had little football this season, hence they came out so fresh. Then we made the mistake of going all out to attack with 8 men. Everton had about three to four players lurking around for a chance to break at our defence. If a new defender will displace Valencia next season is left to be seen. Whoever is coming will be playing in a high defence. When Rafael played in a similar set up against Burnley at Old Trafford, he was caught out twice from counter attack. We cannot really compare until we have another playing games for us to enable us compare. On the pass accuracy, Valencia is 6th in the entire EPL. The highest in Manchester United. He is the only out and out full back who is in the first 40. The next is Zabaleta who is in number 41. This is how he brings stability to our play. He is hardly disposed and has a very low rate of unsuccessful touch. There are some players that you just give the ball to when it becomes hard to keep. This season Val has done well. Even under SAF he did well playing in the defence in a long spell for about three seasons. He is even playing behind two small players, unlike the other side we have Young and Fellaini. |
wonlasewonimi:I am missing no one. I just want to clear the air about the false stats presented some pages back. Someone was using CC per game to calculate when he could have just pulled out the total. The reason I came here was to see Chelsea's fans opinion about Hazard. Elsewhere, some said Fabregas is better than Hazard, so I wanted to know if Chelsea fans would show ingratitude to Hazard by picking a wrong person as their hero. If Hazard were an English player, they would say he won the PFA award because he is English. Some were promoting Kane because he packed some impressive stats. This is why I have always said that the professionals who know football don't look at computer stats when they are picking the best player in the league, the very best they play against week in week out. |
^^^ Let me not just start an argument here. The above is self explanatory enough. Log out. |
Nihilist: It appears you guys were having difficulty extracting some past stats regarding chances created. Chances Created: Nani............TOTAL....LONG...SHORT 2009/2010.......51........8.........43 2010/2011.......78........24.......54...(mins played 2674) 2011/2012.......68........17.......51 2012/2013.......11....... 1.........10 2013/2014.......11........1.........10 Hazard 2012/2013.......65........5.........60 2013/2014.......93........3.........90...(mins played 2898) * You guys know I don't normally come here. Something prompted me here and then I find this gap in statistics need. Hence my first post on the Chelsea thread. |
AdeLaNa1:Let's beat Everton first. It's now the most important match. If we don't win, then nervousness will set in again and the confidence of the team will be affected. So let's go and win at Everton this weekend, every thing else will follow. |
"Obviously [...] Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are very spectacular, but I like Eden Hazard. Everything he does on the field like it. I like his behavior, his decisive side and the fact [that he makes] progress every year. [He] still has a good margin of progression, and [he's the biggest reason] Chelsea are leading the championship." -Zinedine Zidane http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2015/4/22/8464547/zidane-messi-cristiano-ronaldo-hazard-hands-off-buddy |
PietroRico: Ukwu!!! |
Nothing like what you watch yourself. I brought this topic because people always think I dont know what I am saying when some players I rate high are put down based on stats. Not all players are stats friendly. like Hazard. But from the amount of work and contribution, you will know they are great. World class. My point is. What I see in matches tells me Hazard is better than Silva. He is the best player in the EPL. But people use stats to put him down. Chances created don't support him. Assists don't support him. A similar thing happened when I used to be the only one speaking for Robben in 2013. Not all players are so direct to pack stats. This is happening to Ashley Young this season. Di Maria in the opposite. Young's presence in the team has been more beneficial to the team than Di Maria's. But Di Maria's stats portray him as being more productive than Young and Mata. This is how stat can be misleading in players comparison. We had an argument earlier in the season where Silva and Fabregas were being promoted over Hazard by many here. These people were holding on to chances created and Assist stats. At the end, Mourinho came out to crown Hazard as not only the best in Chelsea but the best in the EPL. The shorlist of players for PFA player of the year is out and Hazard is there, the only guy in the list from last season. Fabregas and Silva are missing. For the third year, Professional footballers and whoscored put Hazard over Silva. Whoscored has rated Hazard as the best in EPL for about 7 months running now. Yet, I was made to look like I didnt know what I was saying when I argued about Hazard. They said Hazard just dribble aimlessly around the field. Even when I said Hazard plays in a defensive minded team and has a unique role, they wouldnt listen.Professional footballers have spoken again, and again, and again. This is my last argument on this thread for a long time to come. Going forward, I will just state my opinion and leave. |
Like Mourinho doesnt also manage Fabregas. Stats say Young is shyte. Di Maria deserve a starting place before Mata and Young.I have made my point. Na u kon know. That was my last argument. |
coogar:We were not in May when we compared Hazard, Silva, Fabregas in CHANCES CREATED earlier in the season. Same thing happened last year at this time when we were comparing Rooney and Mata. coogar:Okay, Di Maria is better this season? Noted. coogar:This doesn't matter when looking at things over a period. Berba packed his stats in a few matches and won golden boot. coogar:RVP didnt deserve it. Period. If Suarez weren't suspended, he would have won it followed by Bale. The guys were doing solo runs and dribblings enroute scoring their goals, not just give me chop goals RVP scored. coogar:So you can now talk stories where there are stats? Interesting! Let's just leave. I think I have made my point on why I brought this topic up. |
coogar:Is it not this stuff that made you put Fabregas and Silva over Hazard? It's misleading you people. You now believe these abstract characters than what you watch. Mourinho confirmed my opinion that Hazard is his best player and the best in the EPL. I don't need it. That FIFA 15 that over gave Kagawa marks? Now, stats telling us Young has been shyte while we have actually been praising him. |
Tval:That's for children. Moreover, I think that is the problem of many in this thread. That is why there is a mismatch between these guys and I. Most of their arguments are from the experience they get about these players in computer games (FIFA 15, playstations) and statistics. So when we discuss football, there is a conflict between they accepting someone telling about reality and what their observation is of these players in their abstract characters as used in computer games, stats, etc. This is why I have to finally quit arguing with these guys haven understood they decided never to believe things they saw with their eyes, but the ones created in their imagination by playstation characters and matches. |
coogar:* When has period ever being a factor in your previous argument? Season is between August and May. This has always been our basis for assessment. * No matter the period you use, I dont even see how Young can be the best this season. Di Maria will still beat him. * Costa scored his goals very early. Harry Kane is scoring late. At the end, no one would ask what time any one of them scored. Whoever scores the highest is the winner. Your point about Di Maria is nil. |
Tval:What is it used for? |
1. Di Maria 48 chances created in 1565 minutes = 32.6 mins per CC 2. Mata 38 chances created 1901 minutes = 50.02 mins per CC 3. Young 25 chances created in 1649 minutes = 65.96 mins per CC. Coogar, these are the figures. 'Remember stats are facts'. Are you arguing with stats now? Your so much beloved CC? |
Wscholar:Is anyone forbidden from making this proper mufc analysis? |
Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has revealed he met with Manchester United officials on Sunday to discuss Radamel Falcao's situation at Old Trafford and was told the Red Devils have not yet reached a decision on keeping the striker. Despite all the signs pointing to Manchester United passing on their chance to sign Falcao, Vasilyev says the Red Devils have not yet made up their mind. The Monaco vice-president said: "I saw Manchester United officials last Sunday and they have not yet decided if they will exercise the option. "It's not his best season, but they've kept their right to comment at the end of the season. "We are not in any other negotiations, even though big clubs are interested. It's up to Manchester to decide and then we'll talk with the player to find out what he wants." [Source: nicematin.com] |
coogar:So Coogar can tell stories? The kind of description of players abilities you have refused to listen to all the while. Have you forgotten you major stats? Chances created. |
Smalling gets a new contract. Till 2019. |
coogar:You are a hypocrite. Stats say otherwise. The same stat you used to put Silva over Hazard says Di Maria is the best among the three. Young is the worst this season. |
coogar:Pay attention to details. See my original post. Players comparison this season in terms of performance. elampiro: |
coogar:Good night. Till tomorrow, But know that there can be no pace without power. The more the energy the more the pace. When you see someone running at a great pace, you just know he is being propelled by power. This is why FIFA put speed sprint and acceleration as physical attributes. Two separate physical attributes relating to speed. This should tell you, among other attributes, how much importance speed is to rating a player's football power. |
