I think many guys here did not play real football- competitive football. That's why they base their argument on abstracts, how they think it should be. Where as it's not like that at all. When you have played competitive football over a reasonable years, you get to know different qualities and components of players who come and go in the teams you have trained and played for, the opponents, etc. You will be surprised to see an 'achinia' (a thin) player who does push ups, frog jumps, many energetic stuff higher and faster than another team mates who looks herculean. These things usually reflect in the sprints, agility, balance of players, etc. You will be surprised to see a muscle player who is lazy in virtually everything on the football field. Size and physique has nothing to do with power in the football field. Look at Ramires physical stats, he has power more than Rooney and Jones. So when we say pace and power, we are looking at a player like Sanchez, Ramires before a player like Rooney. I remember how much I used Oshoala to describe. Pace power doesnt mean absence of skills, like Oshoala who has everything going for her. ....CR7 is another king of pace and power. I have made my point far enough since three days ago. |
* Balance: The ability to maintain balance after a physical challenge. - FIFA definition. elampiro: elampiro:Ayagayagayagayo hei, ayagayagayagayo Did I not say Robben has the most power among footballers? And I said Sanchez is probably the next person that comes close in the EPL. Now we know who really knows football. Yori Yori. |

My own na be say. Make we finish top 4. Preferably 3rd. Van Gaal's substitutions were shocking. |
liveLongNprospa:Dont mind him. He has even shot himself in the leg. He has ended the argument conclusively and completely in my favour. |
lekkie073:The guy didnt even know what he posted. He picked items from skills and he left out bulk of the stats under 'PHYSICAL' as defined in FIFA 15. |
homesteady:Don't start what you cannot finish. Now let me beat you to your game. * Shot power is under skills not physical. * Long shot is under skills. * See Physical according to FIFA 15. homesteady:If I equated speed to power, I would have said Di Maria has power. That Rooney has power. That Welbeck has power. That Write Phillip has power. That Sterling has power. If I equated speed to power, I would have also said Pacquiao has no power. That Undertaker, Jackie Chan and Shawn Michaels have no powers. Ukwu!!! homesteady:I guess you know English more than those who went to best schools in UK and are sports journalists and commentators. |
Good night. We can always continue tomorrow (later today). Bye! |
homesteady:Power is not all about work rate. There are components. Sanchez is yet to record the speed of Robben- Olympic sprint speed. ![]() |
homesteady:Physical strength and force exerted by something or someone: ‘the power of the storm’ figurative ‘the lyrical power of his prose ’ MORE EXAMPLE SENTENCES SYNONYMS strength , powerfulness , might , force , forcefulness , mightiness , weight, vigour, energy , intensity , potency ; brawn , brawniness, muscle ..................................................... The bolded are what I have been saying since. Apply these to game of football where movement is involved. If it were weight lifting, Shittu and Distin would have passed. Vigor: effort, energy, and enthusiasm. Yori Yori. Good night! |
homesteady:We saw them in the world cup. Robben, a striker, had the highest work rate at the world cup. He was the reason 3-5-2 worked. He was three players. |
SetrakusRa:Bale has power na. Jordi has power even if I dont watch him often. |
homesteady:You haven't said anything new. You obviously know English more than the commentators and sports writers who say these guys apply power to out pace their markers. |
homesteady:This is where it takes a professional to see things. Without Robben's force and energy he wont be different from Robinho or something like that. Robben is more energetic than Sanchez. |

homesteady: I ask you and you guys, why is Robben being referred to consistently as a player with pace and power? Same with fragile looking players like oshoala, Neymar. Ronaldo of course. |
homesteady:Synonyms don't always mean same thing. You can have a strong wall built around your house, and you are referring to solid. You can't say you have a powerful wall. Strong in reference to a footballer = Physically built. Powerful in reference to a footballer = Energetically, forcefully in movement. |
SetrakusRa:You are entitled to your screwed up opinion. ![]() The sports writers and match commentators and those of us who know ball, are aware of the truth. Robben is powerful. He applies his power to beat players with pace. |
homesteady:Now you are talking. And I guess you know Robben, Valencia and Ronaldo can record the speed of an Olympic sprinter. That's the power we are talking about. Sprinting is done with some much power, so much energy and so much force. According to report, these guys do it on the field while ball watching while Sprinters do it on the track with sole purpose of setting a record time. I rest my case. |
I keep seeing where they mention Robben, Ronaldo as some of the footballers with best power and pace. The only place Wayanma gets mentioned is strongest footballers. Under the strongest footballer I saw Ibrhimovic, Lukaku and many kick boxing looking players. ![]() May be you people are talking about strong men, like Booker T, Mark Henry. This is not weight lifting. ..... Power in football has to do with applying force and energy when you move. I dont see how Robben, Valencia and Ronaldo with speed of Olympic stars would not be said to be powerful. Haba! |
SetrakusRa:You think otherwise because you dont know ball. You dont even understand power. As yourself, how can Pacquiao as small as Juan Mata be a world boxing champion? Do you know how small Jackie is? Do you know what he can lift? Akinfenwa wont lift half what Rey Mysterio or Shawn Michael can lift. Forget forced muscle. Like Welbeck who was bulked up under one year. |
At the same time, he has also been an ever-present member in the Netherlands team all these years, with his pace, power and directness a big component of their attacking repertoire. I keep seeing more and more articles talking about his power. Same as CR7. Na people like una go see Pacquiao una go say Akinfemwa go kill am. Power is not about physical built. Heavy muscles is not a reflection of what physical strength, force and energy that resides in a person. Chikena. |
He has power and skill, he works hard, he scores goals, he sets them up and in this World Cup he has been completely committed to the Oranje cause, a real team player. His athleticism and power allows him to beat players with pace, but his technical ability gives him the capacity to make space through a drop of the shoulder or a flick of the ball. And his versatility means he is capable of playing on either the right or the left, or coming through the centre from wide areas to link up with Robin van Persie. Na wao! Power used here twice. It's his first attribute. This article was not written by me. |

You are an Ekwe Sample. Many writers and commentators have described Robben as playing with power. |
homesteady:What do you understand when a commentator said Robben has pace and power? Same as Oshoala, Neymar and Ramires? We are discussing football, not weight lifting. |
My people, please when they say playing with pace and power in football, it's not about people like Distin, Akinfenwa, Pepe, Shittu, etc. These are just physically built. That term has been used for Neymar, Oshoala, Ramires. Mascherano has power but no pace. Puyol has power but no pace. Fletcher and Herrera have tenacity. |
lekkie073:I meant low energy for Di Maria. lol |
Leyqute:Distin has no power as Robben. Robben will finish 100m while Distin will be in the 70m mark. Pacquiao the boxing champion, do you know how many thick guys he has beaten? He is as small as Juan Mata. If The Undertaker hits Khali, Undertaker will fall. But Khali is just big and thick, no natural power. So when they go to fight, Undertaker sustained energy sees him beat Khali, Kane, Mark Henry, big show etc. He even lift them up like they were babies. |
lekkie073:What I have typed is about sustained speed and energy. Power. A man with low energy, but a bit higher speed (D Maria) would not finish 100 meter race ahead of another with a bit lower speed but high energy (Oxlaide) |
Leyqute:It's not about built or being a world strongest man like Mark Henry. Smalling hit Balotelli and he fell. |
homesteady:Oxford dictionary talks about energy. When you say force, I could agree too. I know Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Robben and Ribery all have force. Suarez has pace but he is not so powerful or forceful. In confederation cup, they spoke about Neymar's pace and power. |
