Pius Ikedia still interested in Spurs deal 24 Jan 2005 Tottenham have found themselves in a legal row over their pursuit of winger Pius Ikedia. Although AZ look to have won the race to secure former Ajax winger Pius Ikedia, Tottenham have confirmed that they are still interested in signing the flyer. Ikedia is in fact still currently owned by Ajax until the end of this season, but has spent the last three years for some obscure reason away from the Amsterdam giants on loan deals to RBC and Groningen. The 24-year-old African opted to sign a pre-contract with Dutch leaders AZ Alkmaar - despite interest from Tottenham but now appears to have had a change of heart.Tottenham director of football Frank Arnesen revealed: "I admit we have a big interest in Ikedia and that we have spoken to him in London. Ikedia chooses AZ above Tottenham 15 Jan 2005 Tottenham Hotspur have missed out on the services of Pius Ikedia, with the forward plumping for a move to AZ Alkmaar next summer instead. ... However, Ikedia decided to join current league leaders AZ, when his contract with Ajax expires in the summer.Although he is owned by Ajax, Ikedia has spent the last three years away from the Amsterdam giants. The Nigeria international has spent the last two years with RBC Roosendaal after spending a season with FC Groningen.Jol is keen to bring the brightest talents in the Eredivisie to Tottenham, and believes that Ikedia has the potential to become a major player. ... Meanwhile, AZ have claimed they have signed Pius Ikedia for next season. The Nigerian striker, currently on loan at RBC Roosendaal from Ajax, had reportedly been a target for Tottenham. ....................................... This guy went with his former Ajax coach to AZ instead to Tottenham in 2005. He missed a good chance of advancing his career. He yabbed. In football you don't take a step backward when there is a chance to move forward. There was a certain Bellamy in Man City who did something like this never rose again, he opted to go to his Cardiff his home time club instead of numerous interests from EPL teams. |
raumdeuter:Ikedia did not play for Ajax academy. Ikedia went straight into the first team. Ikedia years for Insurance and Asec combined was not up to two years. Ajax only took two of our right wingers. And Kanu was a striker. Why did Ajax not take another striker from Nigeria. Our outing in 2002 world cup was what ruined our export of players to Europe. We used kids for the world cup and they were hurriedly assembled by Onigbinde. The NFA guys plotted against Amodu Shuaibu. Wenger was once asked why he doesn't hire Nigerian players after Kanu. He said Nigeria has stopped producing talents. That was NFA bad work of 2002. Then we missed 2006 world cup. |
coded01:More trol from the troller? ![]() Good night. Election results are full of surprises. lol |
raumdeuter:1994 = 16-18 years. 1999 = 21-23 years. There was someone who was so convinced he didn't take more than two years from his age. It also meant he went to Ajax first team with all his raw ability. Unlike many others who had the opportunity to refine their games with some years in Nigeria league or oversea academy or a lesser oversea club. With proper grooming and mentoring, his decision making would have been refined. |
coded01:To prove that Moses was the true highest scorer. |
coded01:You have a problem understanding English? Oliseh is on my list. Moses on my list and you are talking about comparison. I don't get you people at all. I was even praising Oliseh for his movements from club to club. Some of you guys need to go study logic in school. I don tire for u sef. |
Moses scored more goals more than Oscar, Hazard and Mata combine together and he was the one to go. Talk of frustrating Nigeria players. Oscar 407 mins Moses 427 mins Mata 493 mins Hazard 452 mins Imagine. Pass accuracy. Moses beat Oscar in chances created as well as pass accuracy per minutes. Moses was second behind Hazard in dribbling. Whoscored rated Moses the best for Chelsea in the Europa. |
coded01:Torres is not my guy na. You know who to ask about Torres. You dey trol? Bye! |
coded01:Someone who won us the nation's cup? Without him, Ethiopia were sending us home from group stage. He was a problem for Ivory Coast and Mali. He won the tournament 2nd best, and it could be argued he was cheated. He did well in the qualifying matches too. Later Keshi had to shake his confidence when he said he wasn't playing to instruction and not retracting enough. coded01:I dont get it. Who else on the list? Oliseh played for 6 big clubs. Not his fault he was needed everywhere. |
* Mourinho love for players who could add defensive duty meant Moses had to be sent away. * Liverpool had some players who played their best football ever and Moses, a newbie, couldn't find the confidence to settle. Before his injury he was Stoke best player and one of the best in EPL in August and September 2014. |
JayKayMaybachz:Moses scored 4 goals as a winger in 427 minutes. Torres, a striker scored 6 goals in 810 minutes. |
coded01:is it only Victor Moses you saw on my list? I like him. Thats all. ![]() |
coded01:Moses is injured. He is in Stoke. He was the highest goal scorer for Chelsea in the Europa. ![]() |
Mats Hummels has refused to rule out a move to Manchester United after admitting that he would like a move to play abroad. In an interview with Kicker he responded to questions over Louis van Gaal's interest by revealing that he is open to quitting the Bundesliga for a new challenge. The World Cup winner has now conceded that trying his hand in a new league is a priority for his development as a footballer. Asked about the wooing of foreign clubs like Manchester United Hummels said: "Often I think that, one day, I want to play abroad but there are also days when I say I don't need that. But I think the experience abroad is good for the development of a player. "I have made no decision. I am not the sort of guy who talks about staying at the club when they've already decided to leave. "Everyone knows how much I like to play for Dortmund but I also want to play with a powerful team and a powerful approach. "Whether or not we are playing in the Europa League has no influence on my decision." [Source: Kicker.de] |
coded01:That guy won us the nation's cup. May be with Mba. Pls nobody should come and tell me how many goals Emenike scored or all bullshit stats. |
A40:Finid didnt have speed? Ukwu!!! Finidi out paced his markers uncountable times, went behind the defence to deliver a tap in for Yekini or other forwards. Ikedia is the only Nigeria winger I can remember who never relied on speed to get past his markers. He used mostly his body swerves to get his markers off his way. Elahor relied on team work. Finidi needed to run down the line to deliver a cross. Amuneke was pace and power with scoring ability. Tijani was a diminutive jet. Ikedia is the best dribbler Nigeria ever produced. The only one who I could remember that would have a man directly in his front and he takes him away in a second with body swerves. He didnt mind how many men were line up ahead of him, he was ready to go. A40:Just tell me you didnt know him jor. Injury, kill players irrespective of whether they have speed or not. Just look like Falcao who destroyed Chelsea's defence before. Eduardo of Arsenal. The clips and articles provided here so far have shown Ikedia relied 90% on his dribbling. I am yet to see where he did straight line speeding runs like Tijani/Finidi/Amuneke. |
Princefame1:I am trying to recover the mail I used for nairaland. It's telling me they can't recognize my new device. I will reply once it's okay. Meanwhile, are from Auchi? Did you play football too or u be Ebiaku Silvanus or Alex Jebba? ![]() |
afrodoc2:My favourites have been such guys like Keshi, Nwosu, Finidi, Amokachie, Sunday Oliseh, Kanu Nwankwo, Babayaro, Okechukwu, . Recently, Enyeama Victor Moses. Some more I may have forgotten to mention. Ikedia didnt have the opportunity to advance his skills and unique football. |
afrodoc2:Injury doomed him, just like Eduardo. May be na home problem sef - as they used to say in Naija. Edurance Idahor died on the field when things were getting brighter and brighter. End of argument. It's usually not good to argue too much when we are into a match week. Bye! |
Princefame1:I was born in Auchi and I grew up there. I wont be too specific with details here. ![]() |
Princefame1:Edo. |
afrodoc2:And your clip showed Ikedia exhibiting skills at old age. e dey body. |
afrodoc2:Tijani never was able to play that way wether at 20 or 25 or 30 or 35 or 40 0r 45. ![]() If Ikedia didnt have the skills, you would see him trying to run and outpace his marker. You dont develop skills at old age. Anything you couldn't get in your teenage years- forget it. |
afrodoc2:Secondary school players do Mercenary na. You no play ball? Footballers develop faster. Sylvanus Ebiaku, Karimu Shuaibu and some other guys were leaving school to travel to represent teams which hired players. Ebiaku was already travelling when he was in JSS 3 or so. He is built like a boxer (a Phil Jones kind of power player), that you would think he was 5 years older than his age.But I was his senior. These guys took all the risk and we thought they were senseless then. They werent the most skillful, may be the most determined and those whose parents gave them all the freedom. Also they were motivated with the fact that many Auchi players were beginning to break into top clubs in Nigeria- like Alex Jebba who played with Gabros and later won the FA cup with Begers (injury plague him too and eneded his career prematurely) . The Ebiaku guy did his appendicitis and in a few days he was already playing and we were shouting if he wanted to kill himself. Ebiaku played for Keshi's Flying Eagles with his real age. I think that slowed his career. He was again invited when Keshi took over Eagles but he couldnt make it into the final squad for preparation for AFCON 2013. Except you are sure or know someone very well, don't guess his age. |
Afrodoc has finished himself with that clip. ![]() See Ikedia dancing his markers off his path. No single pace involved. See close control. Ayagayagayagayo hei, ayagayagayagayo. Argument is over. |
afrodoc2:I am not sure you watched the video you posted. WATCH THAT VIDEO AGAIN AND TELL ME WHAT YOU SEE. SPEED OR DRIBBLING? That clip just supported my points. Ikedia dances you out of his way. No speed or power. Lokk at what he did inside the box sef, after many years off his peak. Ukwu!!! |
afrodoc2:Did he say he didn't know have to dribble? He said he had his speed and that didnt mean he was the fastest in the world or near Messi's speed. |
afrodoc2:What did he say? "I didn't know how to dribble"? |
afrodoc2:..and there was someone who said he knew Ikedia in school in Lagos and at most he reduced only two years from his age when he played in 1999. How true about that, I can't tell about that. Ikedia only needed to be nurtured and I think Ajax would have helped him but the injury. If he had gone to a smaller club, h could have come through the rank a more matured player. He focused too much on his dribbling. Every time he had the ball, the oppositions piled up bodies to the right flank, but Ikedia was delighted to take them on one after another. |
afrodoc2:Injury killed his career. If not for the injury and if he had the speed of Messi he would be playing for one of top 3 clubs in the world today. A player with stupidity wouldn't be described as outwitting defenders with his repertoire of dribbling skills. Nothing like pace there. |
afrodoc2:I said if only he had the pace of Messi. I didnt say he didnt have pace at all. You guys like to misquote or change my statements alot. Even if you had followed Nigeria football since Odegbami, you wouldnt know much of Ikedia because he didnt play much in the local league. His was rushed into the top of world football immediately he was discovered. Even Odemwingie, the one they were calling 'ebo' (yellow) way back in Ogbe stadium had much more time in the local league. Pius was rushed to the very top and he had no time to even think what was happening to him. |
You guys started out by saying Ikedia had pace and stupidity. Now you have changed you statement to 'he dribbled and looked at the ground'. And I was the first to point out that he always looked at the ball. This tell me you guys never knew him in his good days. It's just unfortunate this guy's career got truncated by a 'devil' injury. In terms of removing a marker from the road 'see me see', no one else ever did it like Ikedia. So easy and simple no gidigidi inlvolved'. I rest my case. |
