Leyqute:Martial had his time last season and couldn't deliver. He was best as super sub in the beginning. But I pray that he keeps going like this. He is coming of age now. Before this season started, I said in as much as I wanted us to buy players, the positive is that our current players will have a chance to prove themselves in a lean squad. |
patrickmuf:You have said it all. It is easier to scatter than to build. The period you mentioned, City were building seriously anf they are reaping the dividend today. That was same period we could have gotten Hazard instead of Kagawa. We could have gotten Moura. Aguero was wasting away in Atletico for many years. Aguero was a striker I always wanted while at A.Madrid. When I saw Hazard played his first match for Chelsea, I got angry at us. I knew we missed a very good player. I love players who can drive the ball past men with ease. I don't so much fancy passers. |
This Napoli beating PSG, Juventus made them looked ordinary in their league match. Juve won 3-1 |
Leyqute:Young always posted outstanding performance on the left side of the field. Which was my original point. He makes us more dangerous there than Luke Shaw. Now he is doing good on the right side which is his weaker attacking side. I agree on Lukaku, but we should take it easy because he still scores and bail us out. |
raumdeuter:Yes. Lukaku was never the kind of forward that I would want in Manchester United as I clearly stated. I prefer a striker like Aguero who can play, dribble and score. All the poor qualities I observed about Lukaku last year are just being discovered now by the rest of my pals here. I wonder why they could not see that his style of play was a problem. However, Lukaku has even improved his overall play and goal scoring from the person I criticized last year. He is able to stretch the defence where there is space to run forward, he presses for the ball and drops deep to involve in some build up even when not as technically gifted as Aguero, Kane, etc. He is not just the hyena he was in the beginning. Knowing he is not so gifted, I decided to take him as he is mostly as there are no free world class strikers in the market. My issue with the rest of my pals is that it looks like they just gang up to support a general opinion. When one is in opposition, they don't care to listen or view the person's opinion. The general opinion must be defended and held. |
patrickmuf:Even under SAF, teams like Valencia or even worse left Old Trafford with a point. Even Bilbao beat us. Juventus have faster midfielders. Please stop mentioning Mata. Adding average Mata to the slow combination of Pogba and Matic makes it worse. Juventus has more quality players. Take it or leave it. This is same thing that have been playing in UCL final and semi final. |
One thing about this thread is that there is always a generally held opinion. Once the opinion gains ground, almost 90% buy into it and that is the end. Like this Mourinho's sack. Not really different from the two previous managers sacked. The general opinion currently building now is the criticism of Lukaku. About 70% are already on this ship. Recently, some were going to start criticizing Ashley Young just because of their love for Shaw on the LB position. Even when Young was posting a MOTM performance against Chelsea, someone still find a way to rubbish him. I heard Neville said he was the MOTM. Is it that some people don't watch matches, they only read comments on this thread or they cannot form individual opinion? |
Khaytunechi:It is when Mourinho leaves this team he would have the opportunity to tell the world how he was frustrated in the transfer market. Take it or leave it, these team doesn't have the quality of Juventus and other top teams of Europe. To begin with, when last did a United player win the PFA player of the season? One player can change the atmosphere in a club. We don't yet have that player that when you run into trouble, just give him the ball and let him open so much space and gaps in opposition defence. For instance Hazard. |
nitrogen:The man marking has been our trademark for a long time even before Mourinho came. We have suffered from set play because of man marking, and I remember suggesting many years ago we do zonal marking from set play. I see some top teams do it. We can even combine both. To me, if you are evenly spread in your box, you will be able to read the flight of the ball better and clear. But when man marking, you chase players about and lose sight of the ball. On the above goal, Matic made a mistake by not following Dybala closely enough. At one point Matic reduced his speed thinking the ball will be cleared. These kind of things make Carrick to be the most intelligent DM we have had. I wish we have a player like Dybala or Mbappe on our right side. |
Who is counting Mata as a player to be banked on? 30 years old player. Even when he was 24 years old, he could not push Chelsea to EPL title. That UCL won was more of a very hard collective effort with world class defending and counter attacking football led by Ramires. |
Adisaowalla:How much and how long did Man City spend before they could win league in 2011? Our team crumbled after SAF left, and we have been rebuilding which has not yet worked. Sacking coach every two years will mean that we are going to be like Liverpool that didn't win EPL in about 30 years. |
nitrogen:The problem with our midfield is that Pogba and Matic despite being very good are usually slower than their opponents. These are not direct players. United will need a third midfielder who can quickly penetrate tight areas in the opposition half. Pogba is a world class of his own, but he needs a very fast and direct midfielder beside him. Matic is the ball winner and hardly loses possession, but he is very very slow. When you add Luke Shaw who is more likely to pass to Linderlof or Matic instead of pushing forward, you can see why our opponents easily regroup before we get to their final third. You need players to implement a tactics. If it were just about tactics, new coaches would not be buying players. Even Guardiola bought many players despite inheriting a team that finish in UCL semi final |
patrickmuf:Ask yourself how they beat Valencia in Spain with ten men. You have to start from defence, Juve have a stable defence than United. Secondly, Juve has dominated their opponents this season. They appear faster than every team they have played against. |
raumdeuter:They have players who help them to easily regain possession. Most importantly, they have players who can keep the ball even while attacking and dribbling. For instance, William and Hazard are more likely to safely keep the ball longer than Martial and Rashford. |
The quality of players in the team is low. Pogba, Matic, De Gea are the only players currently on high level. Martial will have to play for a long time to gain consistency. We don't know our best CB. It seems we gradually getting a partnership with Smalling and Lindelof. Lindelof is comfortable with the ball. Two or three great players will change this team. If we can get one good player to mesmerize opposition on the right wing, things will immediately change. |
I do not share same opinion as majority here. Juventus have outclassed almost all the teams they played against this season. I watched many of their matches, except in the last two weeks. They beat Valencia with ten men (their best player sent off), and they did it with ease. Our team will grow in confidence and get things right. It seems we have got our best eleven, so from here we go. We are also gradually getting a playing pattern, but we have to stop starting matches nervously. We didn't have a qaulity player on the bench last night. No Fellaini, Lingard, Sanchez. If we had Fellaini against Chelsea we would not have conceded that equalizer. He could still have helped us yesterday with Rashford taken off at 60 minutes. Lingard is also a better team player than Rashfrod, we will need to give Rashford time to mature. |
Leyqute:Our best player last night? The guy is showed class |
Jose Mourinho says it is vital that Manchester United focus on defending as the club looks to return to form. For Mourinho, the attacking display is impressive, but, for the club to truly steady the ship, defence will be even more important. "That story of the attacking football - I still don’t understand that story. "Because for me you can only play attacking football when you have the ball. You need the ball. When the opposition has the ball you have to defend. "I want my team, when the opponent has the ball, I want the ball, and you can only recover the ball if your opponent loses or if you recover or if you provoke a mistake in your opponent, for all that you need to defend. "When you have the ball you can play a different way and normally adapted to the qualities of your players. That is what I want. We try to play that way. The key is for the players to be able to do it." [Source: goal.com] #MUFC #Mourinho |
Mourinho: I don't understand the story of attacking football |
RuuDie:Before Zidane, Madrid were doing well in the league. |
elrony:You have not seen when Rojo is in form. That LCB is the major problem. Rojo can still play as left back. |
neezar:Agreed. I don't trust Mata like that. But we have played well with him in two matches in a row. So let us continue that way for now. |
neezar:Young is just too good at his age. Even when Mike Dean threatened him with unnecessary early yellow card, he still did his job superbly. |
neezar:I predicted 2-1 in our favour since yesterday, that is why it is painful to me. Not that I stake it sha. I don't bet. It also painful that we should have by now cut the point at the top of the league and climb higher. However, if we continue like this, we will get to the top four by New Year Day. |
pamcode:The centre referee is in charge of added time. He communicates with the fourth official two minutes to then end of regulation time. That is the rule. |
I have seen what happened after watching that scene a dozen times. Smalling was going for the header, that made Young try to give way. But a Chelsea player blocked Smalling from reaching the ball thereby giving Luis a free header. It would have been better for Smalling to allow Young jump for the ball because he was closer to where it was dropping. Young would have won the header or prevented a clearer header if he challenged. |
Lana1:Is SailoyXY still here? |
Unlimited22:I also wondered what Young was doing. I don't know who I should put the blame on squarely. The first goal we conceded, I also thought Shaw should have held the ball with the space he had instead of conceding unforced corner kick. But actually, football is not that simple. |
My observation about the first half. We did not play with much energy and we did not press tight when we mark. Chelsea had too much space to think, plot and pass us around. When we got the ball, we attacked too slowly like we had done throughout this season, and then the opposition easily regrouped before we hurt them. We were more mobile in the second half and got more balls into the opposition box thereby forcing them to make mistakes. Most importantly we didn't allow them to build comfortably from the back. |
Lana1:Which Rashford? Lukaku is the best we can get for now. It is not that he is very bad, he sometimes bail us out from nowhere. He has improved so much from the striker I criticized for a long period last season. |
Mourinho rushed in the subs too quickly. Anyway, what the coach needs to do is to find out the difference between the first half and second half today. Wetin do Lukaku today? Played like someone who is pregnant or has not trained for weeks. We could have scored a third but Sanchez over hit pass to Lukaku, although Lukaku looked like a trunk today. |
olabode89:I was expecting Bailly since Fellaini was unavailable. |

Rudiger etc), these guys are not top notch defenders, but their managers understand them and approach games with tactics that mask their weaknesses.
