Today, I saw the corpses of innocent children, young girls, women, and other people living in some of the poorest human conditions. Their lives were cut short in the most senseless way. It left my heart incredibly heavy.

Two questions have continued to trouble me:

How does a human being pick up a machete or any weapon, deliberately take another person's life, watch them die, and then move on to attack someone else? What happens to a person's conscience for such cruelty to become possible?

How do Nigerian leaders witness tragedies like these and continue campaigning for elections as though nothing has happened? Do they ever stop to remember that those lives are gone forever? Do they reflect on whether they could have done more to protect their citizens? When those with the authority and resources to prevent violence fail to act, it raises profound questions about responsibility, leadership, and the value placed on human life.
