My only problem now is getting accommodation. Crous is not approving my accommodation applications and the ones outside Crous are way too expensive.
CROUS will only accept you if you are on scholarship or given a space from your department, try sending mail to the head of your masters programme or take the accommodation outside the campus, when you get to France, you can easily use leboncoin.fr to get what will call partage or collocation for a cheap price. If you are coming to St. Etienne I can help out. Best.

Hi guys, I have a few questions to ask pls

1. We are required to submit 3 months travel insurance - so what is the cost of the student insurance for 3 months?

2. Which are the recommended travel insurance companies in Nigeria?

3. After pre-consular interview is submission @ vfs. So how much is vfs collecting as visa fee for long stay study in France?
Okay, I did mine 3years ago, so let me try to do justice to your questions
1. You can always use aiico check out aiicoplc.com or type on Google travel insurance aiico, I don't remember the price but budget 10-15k

2. Check my answer in 1. Aiico still remain standard...

3. It was 42k last three years, the fee depend on the currency exchange... So I believe it should be like 50-55k.... Best.....

Paris saclay is one of the top university in France, it is very difficult to get the admission.... Under Paris saclay we have Paris Sud University, Paris diderot and Sorbonne Universite.... This place hard to get admission that what I mean..... I believe you have outstanding result for you to have been accepted.

Right. But the residence has given a 1-week deadline to send the requested documents and I can’t get VISALE in that period.

send the crous a message informing them you have not gotten your visa which is important for visale. All this one na just French way to put fear in you, once you reach your crous, your name is already there on their list, all you need to do is pay and do your visale as time goes on.... No mind them... All crous need money

For those who have done the CROUS process: I got CROUS yesterday but they are asking for VISALE which I cannot get until I have my Visa. What is the typical thing to do in this situation?

cc mrphysics
cc electromagnito
for visale, you can always do it when you get to France, funny enough my crous asked for visale, I didn't do it but based that you are an international student they can't turn you away, the French law covers you (no landlord is allowed to turn away a tenant during winter). My advice.. All that matter for you now is a crous acknowledgement that you have a place for the session for your visa, then after you have gotten your visa, apply for visale, you can do that in Nigeria, note visale takes time to process your submit documents... So the crous understand..... Best

I will pm you bro. I just want to ask how you went about securing accommodation.
getting Attestation d' Hebergment can be tricky some time, but you can use studapart to see if you can meet up with some landlord requirements to get this certificate for visa purpose.. Normally school outside of Paris offer Crous accommodation along side your admission to save you from this stress. I would have love to help out but Nigerians will always be Nigerians.... I fit drop ID and certificate give you now make I cry for the end... Wish you the best

Hi guys, just some contribution, although I have made up my mind to stick to my PhD here in France while I am yet to reject my PhD offer at University of Hawai'i, one of the reason I won't be going to the US is the Covid-19 brouhaha, I still talk to my supervisor and he is not sure if embassy will even open for spring 2021 talk more fall 2020, we still talked this morning and he was saying if it may need, he will need to talk to the funding society ACS to push my PhD to fall 2021 can you imagine, lol although I won't be going to the US anyway, I am not that desperate, so I will stick to my PhD here in France. So. What I want to conclude from this is that, try looking for something to keep you busy because the embassy is not going to open anytime soon not for Nigeria with the way our government is playing politics with Covid-19, EU ban Americans for now, while Americans did same, so I believe US will replicate same to African country if they manage to beat their curve down. Stay blessed guys

Apologies for the personal question but Hong Kong hasn't opened borders yet? I ask because I'm interested in HK.

borders are open in HK, I received my visa last two weeks from them but I declined my offer over there already.... The borders are open to student only I believe. Non-student migrant are still shut out because their cases is stylishly increasing day by day.... Best

I am based in Paris and this is totally false, I believe this area is Saint Denis popularly know as quarte vingt treize (93), its an area filled with illegal migrant from all part of the world including Indians, the people selling this corn are mostly from Senegal, Guinea. I have never seen any Nigeria selling maize. Although Nigeria girls are known for pute business, I mean prostitute but this, I am sure Nigerian don't do this. In this same area, they sell suya but a funny type of suya and you will burst laugh, they are doing anything just to survive.

Note: I am a PhD student here in France.

No, molecular simulation is used to model the diffusion or transport rate of elements in the picoseconds scale. Its all about how materials behave at that time scale.

There are alot of things you can do with MD, you can build materials such as clay, cement, mix it with water or other elements and also radionuclide and see how they transport at the pico level using different tools.

See an image below that we built in class. We will continue in September when classes resume physically.
this looks like GROMAC... You can also implement mathematical modelling in MD but you will be considering LAMMPS package... Although most research hardly using MD for Mathematical modelling since you are dealing with a smaller scale.... So FEM and DEM will be appropriate for Mathematical modelling. Mechanical engineering student will understand better

Is Molecular Simulation related in any way to Mathematical Modelling?
yes... When your model is actually in a smaller scale or better called atomistic scale, you use molecular simulation, although I am more proficient in Mesoscale which is in between microscale and marcoscale.... This will be well understood by mechanical engineers... But as a theoretical physics, I deal with atoms of the material (crystal or amorphous), so if I need to implement any mathematical modelling, I did be looking at a smaller scale, so I can include temperature among my parameters

Congratulations... on the other hand, Can you please tell me why you prefer the PhD in france to Hongkong and the USA.
interesting question, well firstly, I had to pray to God for guidance because its all by his grace I find myself in this position.
I had wanted to go to Hong Kong no matter what because the PhD topic was more related to my masters thesis which was on Glass science plus Hong Kong Universities are all in Top100 in the world including were I was admitted, let just say if there was no covid-19, I would have been in Hong Kong by now definitely.
During the lock down, I use the opportunity to also apply for a PhD at University of Hawai'i in US to work on bulk material of colloid particles, this still fall under my research work but more of biophysics, I got admitted after two Skype interview and I believe my recommendation letter from my two professor in France played a bigger role, I was told, I was selected based on my molecular dynamics simulation skills(trust me I learnt everything in france, Nigeria na scam), but there is one problem, covid 19, so I can only resume in US for spring next year plus I will be fully funded by American Chemical Society, but after going through the journal given to me to prepare myself for spring, baba I got more confused.
For France, La France, i got a PhD with ENS Lyon which is equivalent to getting a PhD with MIT in US, the PhD will be undertaken at Ecole Mines though but one special interest here is the topic, very interesting and fully sponsored by EDF, I will be working on nuclear reactor microstructure material like the 316L steel screw, this is a first hand industrial experience with EDF, everyone wants to work with EDF for sure.
I believe i will go to US someday for postdoc probably, but I won't kill myself for a US PhD because I am not desperate. When the time comes, we will move trust the process baba

Even if we were to share accommodation, you would still need your own accommodation certificate to show at the embassy. As for not qualifying for VISALE, you can use studapart.com (it’s expensive but it takes care of guarantor issues for you). Another option is to talk to landlords on leboncoin and let them know you don’t have a guarantor but they’ll usually want you to pay like 3 months ahead. If you do go this route, you should only pay the caution deposit and then pay the three months rent when you arrive.

Maybe it varies across schools. For my school, we are resuming September 2nd. Lectures start September 3rd. Some departments will resume September 1st. And lectures will hold in the school environment -Physical meeting.

Before now, my school had earlier announced that freshmen or M1 students will resume January 7th, 2021. But start first semester online. But with the recent development in Covid-19 in France, I don't know if they have changed such decision.

Regards
oh interesting, some schools send memo for extension of resumption date, so i want to believe it depends on the regions.... region with low case still retain normal resumption.... i wish you the best in your M2, try get 16/20 grin grin grin grin grin grin

I hope i get to meet you someday. Enjoy paris baba.... na man you be.

Prospective student should know that next session will be starting in Novemeber which is a new development due to the COVID-19, most M2 student doing their internship are yet to defend and also they are hoping the extension will give room to student who have not applied for VISA yet to meet up, the first semester will also be online, be prepared.

@electromagneto and other gurus, I have applied for MSc program at the University Jean Monnet but I want to know of to choose private or university housing as this question is part of the application process. Is CROUS private housing?

Thanks
so for late reply, we have two type of CROUS actually the private and government owned, the government owned are difficult to obtain except you are french, on scholarship or from campus france but sometime self funded student still get it. while private crous mostly in paris is available to all. one important thing you should have is your visale certificate from visale.fr

The school says I have to agree to pay by middle of July for accommodation starting from first September 2020 even if I am unable to enter France by then.

How can I agree to pay rent for accommodation when you are not even sure that the pandemic will allow you to go.
And the rent is not even cheap - 400 Euros, per month.

I need to rent private accommodation.

chill the agreement is not equivalent to you paying while in Nigeria.. agree and get the accomodation certificate, when you reach, you will get acomodation cheaper via leboncoin.fr
