Ranked 3rd in the 2020 Global Financial Centres Index, Hong Kong is a bustling metropolis and a major centre for higher education. Compared to many universities in the USA and UK, the tuition fees are lower, and visa policies are more relaxed. Here are some factors which make Hong Kong a desirable higher education destination for Indian students. 1. Established education hub - Hong Kong is ranked 12th in the QS rankings for best student cities, and is home to 4 of the top 10 universities in Asia and 5 of the top 100 globally. Institutes like The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), University of Hong Kong (HKU), and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) offer high-quality education and strong research networks. English is the primary medium of instruction in all universities, and the language is widely spoken and understood across the city-state. 2. A vibrant city - People from all around the globe live and work in Hong Kong, providing a unique assimilation of cultures. Despite having the reputation of a giant concrete jungle, around three quarters of HK’s land area is dotted with country parks and natural reserves. You can visit ancient temples, go on wildlife safaris, roam about Disneyland, and enjoy many more attractions- all of which are easily accessible. As summarised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, “Culture and heritage is what sets Hong Kong apart from the rest of Asia - indeed the world. Hong Kong is a unique fusion of Eastern and Western cultures where the old and the new live side by side”. 3. Great location - Travelling to mainland China for tourism or job interviews is convenient. Hong Kong is situated 20 km away from Shenzhen (global hub of electronics manufacturing) and is well connected to Shanghai and Beijing, the economic nerve-centres of China. An education in Hong Kong coupled with proficiency in Mandarin can open up many new avenues in China for recent graduates. Hong Kong is nestled in the heart of Asia and is situated less than a five-hour flight away from half the world’s population. The city shares the same time zone as Singapore, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Perth. Additionally, Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, and Jakarta have just a one-hour time difference with Hong Kong. 4. Hub of opportunities - Factors like attractive tax structures, modern infrastructure, and proximity to China and other Asian markets make Hong Kong an attractive destination for corporations and start-ups. 70 of the 100 largest banks in the world are present here. Hong Kong’s status as an international finance centre is in fact secured by its constitution, and it is often touted as the next Silicon Valley. Studying in HK can help you form strong social and professional connections that can be crucial while starting off your career. 5. Safe and well-connected city - Crime rates in Hong Kong are among the lowest in the world; petty thefts and small scams are about as bad as it usually gets. Discrimination against foreign nationals is taken seriously by local authorities and is on a downward trend. Hong Kong also has an excellent public transport network. Almost all areas of the city are well connected by metro, trams, buses, or ferries. An Octopus Card can be used to make payments on the network and is also widely accepted by shops and retail outlets. credit to: https://www.braingainmag.com/why-hong-kong-is-a-great-study-destination.htm |
I don't know the right words to start with but I am starting to feel i am the only Nigerian going for studies in HongKong this year, well I will going for my PhD at The HongKong Polytechnic Univerisity this August but I don't know if it is still visible with the global pandemic even though HongKong has one of the best COVID-19 records in terms of total affected and total recovered. I haven't gotten any mail from the university regarding cancellation of fall resumption but i would appreciate if student going to HongKong contribute to this thread. Let talk about the Visa Application and how to cope in an expensive environment like HongKong, although i will be leaving from Paris which is also expensive but compared to HongKong with a smaller density area could make life more difficult. so far i have done the following 1. Accepted my offer for 3years PhD with monthly stipend with a performance reviewer 2. Applied for my Visa via my host university, still waiting for the 10weeks required for the processing 3. Validated all my result, my university in France sent my transcript as well as my school in Nigeria 4. Applied for hostel at Kowoloon 5. Already prepare for online commencement incase face to face is not allowed. I am yet to see a thread that talks about Education in HongKong maybe it because their universities are all in Top100 in the world and can be very difficult to get in except you have sme exceptional. I await prospective student opnion here and God bless. Best Electromagnifico |
Living in France can be both sweet and bitter especially for a young educated man trying to make something out of life, well i have stayed in two region so far Ile de France (which comprises the Almighty Paris, Valdoise, Yvelins etc) and also Cote d'or( which is also known as Bourgogne region which have the popular Dijon, auxerre), Ile de France is the best region to stay in france, followed by the Lyon's, marseille's, Lillie or Strasbourg. here is my Ile de france Breakdown I stay in Cergy a suburb of Paris at Valdoise region in Ile de france for 2years, during this time it was bith Up and down for me because I was a student and Life has a student in france can be a nightmare especially if you work and study which will result to failure in most cases but that isn't going to take away the fun of paris away. Here are the following advantage of living in Ile de France region 1. Transportation: Although transportation is very costly in this region because of paris, the body responsible for transportation here is SNCF/RAPT a monthly transportation would cost 75Euros(35 Euros for student below 26years via Carte Imaginary), this 75 Euros means you are free to move within the 5 region of Ile de france without constraint, they are also other type of subscription that allw you to pay for your transport per month according to the region you visit the most which means you will pay lower than 75Euros if you visit let say 3regions or 2 regions alone out of the available 5 region. we have 6 major train lane which are: RER A: Cergy Le haut/Poissy/germain Laye- Marne le vallee(Disney Land) RER B: Mitry claye(charles de Gaulle Airport Axis)-Robinson or South of Paris region RER C: Pontoise- champ de Mars(Tour effiel)/East of Paris RER D: Goussanville/ some cities mostly dominated by blacks- Savigny/Gringy dominated by our Edo people hahhaha RER E: Paris st.Lazare-Magny (I am not too use to this area) Ligne H: Pontoise to Paris Nord there are some line i didnt mention then we have the Metro station within Paris Metro 1, 2, 4, 7, 9, 13, 14 There are also Buses which use the same card as the trains. 2.Jobs: employment in Ile de france is basically fair compare to other region because of Paris but must immigrant end up doing modern slaves Job such as Restuarant cleaning Job which is most common, House cleaning Job, waiter in restuarant, work in boulangries(Bakery), getting a good job in france means your french level is at least C1, you must be able to speak french fluqently to get some Job which is most problem of immigrant even as a graduate, you wont get a Job except the grace of God see you through, the best way to get a Job in france is doing formation(paid training) and the field you carry out your formation will either help you get a Job or retain you, this really help for the IT guys, other means includes agencies like Adexen, Addecco, Sage 2000 etc. but Ile de france is better than other region who follow the policy of french for the french.... this region dont even give black french job talk more of foreigners 3. Rent/Housing: if there is one thing everyone cry for in france is the outragous rent and at the same time, there are organisation like CAF that help you subsidize your house rent in france as long as you have an APL contrat to your house, nowadays housinf in suburb of paris are even getting more expensive than paris itself, you can get an average of 400euros/month housing of 75msq in the suburb with your name on the mail address just incase you plan to file for 10years resident permit 4. Food: the cost of food is the same all over france, expensive but depending on which supermarket you decided to go, the cheapest is LIDL and other like AUCHAN, CARREFOUR, INTERMARCHE, LEADERPRICE also exist but as an African Man who need africa food India shops are always available for africa food stuff with ridiculous price tag but it best to visit chateau rouge metro 4 if you stay in Ile de france and because of the prostitues in the place. |
davide470:13.5/20 final grade, what about you? |
mrphysics:thanks boss, io am following your thread, you are amazing, you will do great things in france..... best |
mrphysics:Church don close, this sum up the whole issue, I was lucky to do my masters in a public university, so i could still work at night and go to school in the morning but if it was grand ecole c'est pas possible(it is not possible), because my friend in grande ecole always complain although he was on PTDF scholarship. well i was just good as well because i did my master in theoretical physics, which is rank the most difficult in france actually but i study like 13hrs on my off day to cover for all i miss, baba my M1 was like 10.83/20 lol i just give thanks because my last rattrapage(make up exam) safe my ass, but in M2, i stopped working because i had save alot during my first year and got paid during my internship, so i ended up with my PhD grade. that mexico for die if he do wetin oi do, work fro 11pm till 6am, go school for 10am till 5pm. we survive |
Skymoore1004:Well the best option for you should be Netherland, because 90% of the population speaks Englsih and they dont discriminate like the french. |
Skymoore1004:another interesting question, well if your APS expires, and you apply for new masters, you will have to go back to your origin country to apply for a student visa (its like you are starting afresh), and in most cases you will be rejected becuase the embassy knows your intentions is to remain in france and work. My PhD in hongkong is sponsored, its just 3years and this corona virus pandemic is really threatening my August resumption if not the entire programme, because i doubt if any country want to take a student coming from EU now, especially france where it looks like everyone is affected by corona virus..... the only positive thing here is that we get palliative every tuesday(Different goceries), free house rent now(the CROUS seems not to be happy about this but wetin concern us)...... Keep pushing boss, France is a lovely country, who say you no go make am if you come france....... head different from head my brother. I mention cleaning job because na the job 80% of people wey i no dey do..... mostly night cleaning Job(I do am for my first year, baba na die ), job likes equipper(Team member or Student preparing orders from customers) for Mcdonald(racist people mostly white student), Buger king(This one dey employ black french wella, Most time all black student), KFC(Mix race), Quick(I never enter chop before) and restaurant serveur(server) are hardly given to foreign student because you need to speak french....... NB: for those going to Dijon University of Bourgogne, mail your department to give you attestation of hergbement via CROUS, that will save you the stress of guarantor |
Skymoore1004:oh very nice questions you ask 1. Yes, I am leaving because i got a PhD at Hongkong Polytechnic University, well in france, it is believe you should get a PhD during your stage (Internship) but not all stage(Internship) comes with PhD after finishing, that was my case even though i attain the french PhD grade which is the most difficult in europe, i still didnt get a PhD, and in france it believe that once you dont get a PhD during your stage (Internship), the rest dey God hand, no Professor want to take someone else student and Hongkong provides me with an opportunity to come continue with my study, you see, I am not after french free health care or the CAF reduction house rent, I am after my education. 2. I didnt option for APS, rather i applied for another masters at University of Bourgogne to get a 2years carte de sejour(Residence permit), since i know with my APS, I wont be able to get a Job related to my MSC degree to convert to normal residence since my france language is barely B2. okay let me explain this to you, those that enjoy APS in france are those that did their masters in Tourism or course that requires you to do a job mainly meant for english which is difficult to get or else, you will just discover you use your APS do cleaning job and prefecture(Administration) wont consider such job to give you normal residence permit. let me explain here again: in france, once you are done with your masters, you will be given an APS to look for a job related to what you study in school with a pay of not less that 1500euro, once you get this job, you will go to the prefecture or rather Admini for them to change the APS(similiar to student permit because you can only work 20h per week) to normal resident permit so you can full time. so let say you study Physics and you got a job for tourism or cleaning job, the prefecture will reject your change of status application because the job is not related to your course, so student always find it difficult to get a job related to their course so dey prefer to do another masters just to retain studentship and do their normal side job rather than risking to take a year APS. 3. part job you we do here is basically cleaning job and that is if you are in Ile de france(Paris region), all this province Dijon, Bordeaux and the rest is what we call french for the french, they are damn too racist to even give you cleaning Job, and forget working in restuarant if you dont speak at least B2 french, in worst scenario, you can go to CROUS to ask for student Job if you can proof you are really broke and such is not a case for a new student who just told the embassy he or she has 615euro per month for the first year. |
okay for those going to Dijon for Msc that is University of Bourgogne its not a bad city although very isolated compare to Ile de france, Lyon, Lille marseille and even bordeaux, my advice for you is that if you are coming to france and hoping you will get a life after study, you are wrong.. even if you speak french, most employer will still want you to speak french like you were born there except you want to use your certificate to do cleaning job. Presently France is not issuing any visa due to the corona virus pandemic and all university are closed as well till september but some plan to give distance exam to student, since france is not like UK that depend on international student fee to boost their economy due to their low tuition fee, most schools might end up not admitting new student this year, i hope i am wrong or some necessary requirement will be asked before coming in, like COVID 19 test certificate. For the person complaining that UB fee is too cheap for 243euros, that was the standard fee for all university in france not untill 2018/2019 academic session when they change it to 3999euros which is 4000euros, so some school retain the old fee to attract student while others change to new fee because they know they will always get student to come, so dont be deceived, you will get visa for 243euro fee, Although Bourgogne and Bordeaux are enemy because both of them always fight for who produces the best wine in france lol, its bordeaux though... Visa application are mostly by summer which is first week of July, so you still have time, since france plan for high school student to resume by May 11th and monitor the situation till June 11th to consider opening foreign border(EU border will be open on may 11th). I am presently in Dijon although i did my masters at Universite de Cergy Pontoise Ile de France(Paris region), I wish i could be around to help out daneilla but i will be leaving france for my PhD at Hongkong in August, Wish you the best |
happy birthday brother... thanks for representing Nigeria well.... you are blessed |
i really enjoy this thread trust me... yea macron announce this evening for all university closure, thanks alot for the thread.... i wish i did one back in ile de france.. . enjoy brother |
sultanfortune:"whatever" i find that disrespecting, you need to learn how to correct people. no one is misleading anyone, i gave my comment out of experience and if you feel is totally not true; you can call my attention to it and not sound like you never asked for information from this group. |
funny guy... you dey france education system still get time to dey do picture gallery... i want to believe if you attend Paris Sept like us, your head go don compress by now.... sha do get 14/20(if you manage get am at all) .... i just like french education system.... he go humble you when you validate with 10/20..... go old days in Cergy |
all this arguement about Phd makes me laugh, even in europe you need to get a potential supervisor for the school to reason you, reason why some schools do phd for 5years is because the mentioned student couldnt get a Potential supervisor as such you will use 2years to do some course work which is still like masters, but it is always advisable to talk to some professor from the interested department or else yout application dey God hand... best |
Onyedika11:now i see the angle where the rejection is coming from, Although it is not always stated but it is important to get a supervisor who will add weight to your application, the supervisor whom will likely carryout a skype interview with you, cause your GRE look okay compare to mine 284, because a supervisor comment carries weight .. next time trying contacting a professor and keep trying untill you get a responds except you are going for Msc but PhD its important.... best |
Onyedika11:Msc or Phd, and did you contact a professor |
Pefuele:bros, i was desperate in need of a Phd position, so i thought i could obtain the Hongkong fellowship scholarship(lots of money my brother $33,000 per year), but i didnt get it(i was later told nigerians hardly obtain it) now i am in tight corner |
lordeoregon:i tell you brother, france na for strong men; after school for france na hell |
guy i need advice, i just recently got a phd offer in hongkong but i still await decision from clemson university, and two schools in germany... here is my fear, my supervisor in hongkong has done alot to secure all possible fund for me, what should i do if i get admitted by clemson or the two germasn university... note i am in france and i feel hongkong is backward for me |
Guys pls i am dying in silent here.. i applied to Clemson University, Application deadline was Feb 15th, no news so far..... tension want kill me here oh |
UncleBryte:Good question..... IT or better known as informatique is the best for international student cause you csn easily get retainef during your stage or better known as internship, most people end up doing formation in informatique just to get a job like webdeveloper, data analyst... fact studying in france can be very frustrating, Education in france is very difficult compare to any other place in the world and a chance of getting a job after school related to your course hahaha i laugh its 0.00000000001% if you dont speak french like the native |
approvedxxx:they hardly ask question at the point of entry, next time tell him to get a flight that land early in the morning..... french people too lazy for money wahala, but he should have simply say he has credit card.... i never hear say france return person for POE cause of money. Cause france POE dey stressless |
davide470:i wish it was that easy with your reply baba france is casted if you dont speak french for france cause the one year APS will go without you getting a job plus for the prefecture to even reason you; it means you have gotten a job related to what you study which can be difficult to get.. if france system frustrate you... you go begin speak french unknowingly.... my advise for the guy wey want hse 3770€ study.... safe another 3770€ go english speaking country.... no say i no warn you oh.. because last last na nettoyage, seveur or securite you go use your french diploma do if you get mind say job dey after school..... its just the bitter truth |
How many months does it take US university to make admission decision..... |
Admission wow...... |
Spallanzani:if you can simply tell VO that this will expose you more to phd you plan to do under cybersecurity.... |

Chimaobieustace:best but why mech eng from architect... you will have to confuse the VO with all.you have..... what about your age..... |
Seems all of them are okay with manutd signing Daniel James because he is british but an african man from Nigeria nah |
Danhoys:look suspicious... na yyyou steal the card but you want get info... i hate rubbish |
Oga block your card... ali express cant send you the address of the buyer... customer privacy, even EFCC will need a court order to get that kind info, plus if the money taken from your account is less than 100k.... no one gives a Bleep..... |
