@Bolded,
This is the third time you are going Ad hominem on me. I believe we can debate without insults at monikers.
My reason for that moniker is tongue in cheek because when I joined this forum there were a lot of fake Christians in the religion section and I used that moniker to move against false and fake doctrines by pretending to be confused and not knowledgeable about the contents of the Bible.
I am on the politics section to oppose Ibo supremacist agenda, which is the belief that Ibos are superior to other tribes and an agenda to dominate, subjugate and conquer other tribes spiritually, culturally and economically.
A 66 year report can not superceed the constitution that recognises a tribe as a stand alone people that are an independent entity and a seperate people.
Once again except the Ibo have a hidden agenda, they need to leave the Ikwerre people alone. They don't want to associate with the Ibo. They want to be alone and free. Why are the Ibo trying to force them to be part of an Ibo nation?
Please free the Ikwerre people to be on their own. They don't want to associate with you. It is not by force to be together.
Do not misunderstand me in anyway. We have had a great conversation today and there’s been no need for insults.

In all, you failed to tell us your tribe, even as you tried to give us the Ikwerre story. I have only tried to let you know that “who feels it knows it”, making it difficult for you to understand my position. You failed to respond to the only question that I asked severally and finally acknowledged that you are not an Ikwerre person.

Thank you for your time today and do enjoy the rest of your evening.

That’s the only ‘explanation’ he can come up with, and assuming this was the case, shouldn’t we be clapping for those Igbo of 200 years, or so, ago for effectively hatching and executing such a plot!!?

You are presenting a 66 year old report which has been overtaken by the 1979 constitution that has since recognised the Ikwerre people as a seperate people not affiliated to any other tribe. You need to Google and read up about these things.
As for my tribe,I am not an Ikwerre but I am interested in the minority tribes issues. I am totally against Ibo supremacist agenda which seeks to gobble up the minorities because of desire to access the sea area.
I am not against Ibos but I am totally opposed to an Ibo supremacist agenda that does not consider the rights of minority tribes.
Where is the supremacist agenda?

A 66 year old report according to you, yet it is the history of a particular group of people? So by inference we should discard first hand historical information to satisfy what the constitution says? How can you wish it away? So you want to say today that the Yorubas, who find their history in Oduduwa, should wipe it away if the constitution says so? Again, we should wish away the Benin age long traditions can be wished away because of the constitution?

Confused lady, are you truly not confused?

Sadly you are not an Ikwerre person and presently show very clear and unnecessary bias. You do not speak the language, so you just spent time leafing through pages on the internet in search of information to buttress your claim. No wonder you could not say those words in Ikwerre language. I advise you to ask an Ikwerre person to translate those words into their own language, to confirm to you if there is any difference.

You should not be so passionate about it as you do not understand the feeling. Unfortunately you also have not stated your own tribe.

In all, the Igboid nature of the Ikwerres cannot be wished away.

LASU has been seeing some of their old lecturers and now VC getting into positions. Some worked under Tinubu in his capacity as the governor of Lagos, especially as commissioners and SAs.

I think Obafunwa had a reasonable tenure as the VC of LASU, at least better than Hussein, if I am not mistaken.

All we need in the country are good leaders, irrespective of tribe or religion and the country will move forward.

Can you provide a link to this assertion?

As for your question on how Ibo became a bigger nation than the Ikwerre? History abounds with smaller nation states producing bigger states. You need to read up on a political theory called DIALETICS- the counter forces between THESES and ANTITHESES to produce a SYNTHESES. (The theory of two forces coming together in conflict to produce a new force)
Out of this ashes rises the phoenix. A new nation can come out of an old nation.
Port harcourt state is the name. The Igbos claim Port harcourt as their land.

Now read:

Thanks for the Ad hominem. I did not say this. Ikwerre historians said it. I posted a video for you to watch but apparently you did not watch it. You did not watch it,not because you don't have data but because you are stuck on your agenda and what you have been fed for ages.
If you watch the video, you will see a different Ikwerre point of view that Ibos are actually vassals of the Ikwerre. Ikwerre migrated from Benin to their present locations while the Ibos who were vassals to the Ikwerre migrated from under Ikwerre to their present locations and towns. This is the reason for the similarity of language and lexicon.
You need to imbibe a flexible nature and try to read widely. Never maintain a rigid and inflexible idea of African history because much of the history pre writing was passed on by oral traditions.

Please watch.

So you are simply copying and pasting? I am reading and thinking. But you have become an Ikwerre historian too with the picture that you paint.

When you say someone is your vassal, you infer that you are feudal and the person owes allegiance to you. Is that correct? Assuming but not conceding that Igbos owe allegiance to Ikwerres, how is it that the Igbo nation and boundaries are far bigger and completely able to become a country of their own?

The truth remains that there are various versions of the theory of evolution of Ikwerre people. In all, it is impossible to eliminate the Igboness in the Ikwerre people, no matter how you try hard to wish it away.

Sadly one does not understand the reason for the disagreement. One hopes that someday we can get the exact historical information and rest the case.

For now, while the agitation for more SE states take the center, Ikwerre is projected to be one of those areas to be included.

The Ikwerre are saying you are their vassals. That means the Ibo migrated to their present locations from under the Ikwerre, hence the similarity of language and lexicon.....

The Ibo need to give this argument a rest. If they say they are Ikwerre and not Ibo,then the Ibo should leave them alone except the Ibo interests lie in something else which I personally believe they do.
“Vassals”? And yet Ikwerre cannot show proof of distinct identity from the Igbos?

How can you have similarity of language, yet not the same people? Oh, so you are saying that Ikwerre people speak Igbo as their language, as they cannot find their own distinct language in history? Or they are not longer able to differentiate between themselves and Igbo people? Can I then put it to you that there is no distinct Ikwerre language, as you cannot give us the Ikwerre versions of those words and names?

“Migrated to the present location”? And yet Ikwerres say they are not Igbos?

I need you to understand that I am pointing out the various postulations among Ikwerre historians. The Ikwerre refuse to be yoked with the Ibo,but the Ibo keep on trying to attach themselves to the Ikwerre. Professor Eric in the original post argued that the Ikwerre migrated from Benin but the Ibo keep on arguing that this is not true because of similarity of language, because of this I provided you with another Ikwerre historian who as argued that the Ibo were actually vassals of the Ikwerre and Ibos actually migrated from Ikwerre to their present locations. Moving from the sea to the hinterland to form new towns.

My personal opinion on this issue is that if a people refuse to be associated with you. Accept it as your fate and let them be. It is obvious the Ikwerre refuse to be associated with the Ibo. The Ibo need to accept this and let the Ikwerre people be.
How can you have similarity of language and yet not the same people? It’s like the Ondo man saying that because he is not from Ekiti, they are not Yorubas.

If you cannot find any definite Ikwerre version of those words, then you admit that they are Igbos. Can we not safely say that Ikwerre land is Igbo land, irrespective of the disagreements of the Ikwerres?

You cannot have my children and yet turn around to say you are not connected to me. How e go take work?

Don’t mind that yeye Reno Omokri.

Much as Lagos is the center piece of Nigeria’s development, the truth about the wickedness of our leaders must be told.

With so much resources wasted and looted into private pockets, Lagos should be much more developed than it presently is. Where else in the world do you find molues plying roads, with such recklessness or danfos exhibiting such high level of madness? Ambode tried to put an end to the danfo madness, he was removed.

Lagos is a signpost to to how poorly developed other cities in Nigeria are. With faeces everywhere, horrible roads and very poor (but highly unaffordable electricity), poor water, poor hygiene, insecurity, etc, when will the Nigerian leaders allow Nigerians live good lives. It is the same story from South to north of the country. All madness.

I visited a friend at Okokomaiko some years ago. As we were going to my car, we saw one mama put and decided to eat hot fufu and egusi soup. As soon as we settled down to our food, I looked to the right side beside one open mosque and saw one man openly shitting and the said shit commoting from the yansh. I nearly vomit the food. I hope you know there are other Ikwerre historians that even claim that Ibos migrated out from under the Ikwerre and spread out to their present locations of Owerri,Aba,Onitsha and Enugu.
If you are arguing for the similarity in language and lexicon of Ikwerre and Ibo,the postulation can equally be made that Ibo people migrated from Ikwerre land to their present location.

Apparently you do not understand what an ASSIMILATION POLICY means. I suggest you read up on this topic. The Ibo policy in the old Eastern region was to continue the British colonialists erroneous policy of thinking Ikwerre were Ibo and as such seeking to assimilate them into Ibo people. Thus Ibo language was introduced as a compulsory lingua franca at the expense of the indigenous Ikwerre language and culture.
The assimilation policy was equally employed by the French colonialists throughout French West Africa to eradicate native culture and languages and produce pseudo black French men. This was the same policy employed by the British colonialists and later by the Ibo Eastern region administration to brain wash and turn Ikwerre people into pseudo Ibo people.
My dear, you still beat about the question.

We all know that assimilation was a method used to bypass native culture, traditions and languages. As much as they tried, assimilation was not as successful as intended. The same holds with other groups seen and accused as colonialists.

In all the cities and states colonized by the French, which of them completely lost their native culture, tradition and language?
Have you been around West Africa or North Africa, to former French colonies? I have been to several and they speak their native languages, with largely corrupted French as their central language. Your language is part of the identity. That the French tried to make French black men, still did not erode the fact of who they were/are and certainly not made them French people. We are Nigerians and not British. If you speak Ikwerre, for example, and you only permit English language in your home for your family, who is to blame?

You are substantiating the claim of Mr. Eric. We know that English has not swallowed up any known Nigerian language, neither has Igbo as a language wiped out Ikwerre as a language, if there was any such language.

Again, how many years did we have an Eastern region administration? Certainly it was not for eternity or long enough to wipe out Ikwerre language. If you cannot find the Ikwerre equivalent of those Igbo names and words, and there is no man old enough to give us the Ikwerre interpretation of those words, then I am sorry, we may not be far from the reasoning that Ikwerre cannot claim to have its roots in Benin, in its theory of evolution.

What do you think?
Politics › Re: History Of The Ikwerre People By Professor Eric Amadi by ElevationD: 11:28am On Jul 22, 2024
confusedlady:
Did you read the original post at all?
Professor Eric Amadi wrote it in quite simple English that anyone without a hidden agenda should be able to comprehend.
He stated that the Ibo used their numerical superiority and the fact that they controlled the Old Eastern region to dominate and eradicate Ikwerre language and culture. The forced the learning of Ibo as a lingua franca at the expense of the Ikwerre language. In fact they were so good at his ethnicity assimilation that they were able to produce the MAYOR of Port Harcourt. They were also able to use their influence in Enugu to buy up all Ikwerre lands and properties.
Please read below quote if you missed it.

--------------------------------------------------------

"Ikwerre ethnic nationality is not and has never been a sub-group of any other tribe in Nigeria including Ndi-Igbo. There is no doubt that the advent of the British and later regionalization put Ndi-Igbo at the helm of affairs in Eastern Nigeria. This brought Ndi-Igbo into Ikwerre land. In course of time, the Igbo took advantage of their position in the then Eastern Regional Government to grab land in Ikwerre and occupy political positions such as the mayor of Port Harcourt. In the process, Ikwerre along with other minority groups were marginalized and driven to the
background."
That still does not answer the question. Mr. Eric failed to state it, as I carefully read through his historical claim.

We all are Nigerians, colonized by the British and left with English as our common language. We have our respective languages, which were not wiped out by the British. The Igbos, Yorubas, Hausas, Tivs, Efiks, etc retained and still maintain their indigenous languages.

Certainly you cannot say that Igbo language completely wiped off the indigenous Ikwerre language, otherwise you would be agreeing that Ikwerre belongs to the Igbos. If that dispute must be retained, then the question remains why such Igbo words and names were not translated into Ikwerre language, as a way to show that Ikwerre has no ethnic affiliation with the Igbos? Can you please prove that? Or better still, tell us the Ikwerre version of those names.

Thank you very much, as I look forward to your response to this historical/linguistic request.
