If not for these tribalistic views, should Ojo not be one of the best in the entire country? Obasanjo insisted that if China could lift 700 million people out of poverty, Nigeria ought to have something to do with abject poverty.




Speaking during Dele Momodu’s leadership lecture, ‘How to end hunger and poverty in Africa,’ Chief Obasanjo, in his keynote address, posited that “before we talk about food, security is key.”

While proffering a lasting solution to hunger across Africa, Obasanjo insisted that “education is one of the tools we can use to banish poverty. Where there’s no education, invariably, there will be poverty.

He posited that leadership is removed from banishing abject poverty: “In all works of life, we must have leaders whose characters display ‘communality’.


“Leadership is the greatest ingredient for ending poverty. There’s no human endeavour that does not thrive on leadership.

“To get it right, we must ensure no child is uneducated.

“Nigeria can eliminate hunger and poverty with integrity, discipline and good governance.

We can do it if China can lift 700 million people out of poverty.


“Nigeria should have no business with abject poverty. If we don’t take responsibility, we all sit on a gunpowder keg.


Until we banish poverty in Africa, international communities will not recognize us as a serious continent.” He said


While congratulating President Obasanjo on his submission, the Ooni of Ife urged everyone to be patriotic by collaborating with the government.

He said, “If we want to break poverty in this country, we have to be patriotic in all ramifications. From the food we eat to the clothes we wear. We may not get it right at first, but in a short time we would be the envy of the world.”

For his part, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, while congratulating Chief Momodu for his leadership centre in Ibadan, Oyo State, maintained that most political officeholders are too big to reach out to guardians.


“The problem we have is that people don’t have the fear of God. I invited President Obasanjo twice to Osun State to inspect the rapid development I am bringing there.

They were talking about banishing poverty and insecurity and Adeleke was talking about building the Atlantic spaghetti junction. How did they co-relate please. Would that junction bring an end to poverty in his state.

These Governors must put an end to this nonchalant attitude towards the plight of the citizens.

We must ensure proper education.
We must ensure security.
We then must ensure that our agriculture works and people can get food at decent prices.

A very prominent former minister in Buhari’s government was quoted to have been there with boko haram in the beginning. Why would such a person be part of the government? Between 2002 and 2007 while OBJ was in power, did you hear of any murderous act by boko haram?

Many years ago, a friend of mine employed a driver. The young man started work that morning at 8am. That morning he was handed the papers of the car, just in case of the usual where your particulars people. His first assignment was to purchase petrol into the car. He drove off and never returned. When we searched for him, his address was fake. His guarantor fake. The car was never seen again.

Just imagine the thief in the picture. Day1 stole items worth over 10k. If he was not caught, he probably would keep stealing that amount worth of goods until he finished the shop. The madman did not realize that there was CCTV or he probably underrated it. He maybe never thought that he would be caught. That’s the type who people employ as housekeepers and they remove money and gold.

It is so disappointing to hear that such rot is happening in the judiciary. It is an absolute disgrace that judges cannot be trusted with such high profile matters.

I think that it is easier for the camel to pass through the eye of the needle than for the NJC to make amendments. Politicians absolutely hijacked them sadly as we see from daily occurrences in the courts.
