ClearFlair: Corruption is Nigeria’s number one problem. It’s either we eliminate corruption fast or it will totally consume our nation. Buhari is the only leader who has shown any interest in fighting corruption. People say his anti-corruption war is one-sided but for me, even if it one-sided it is progress.
People say things are hard but do not realize things are hard because of the mismanagement and corruption in the previous administrations. A country cannot lose so much money and expect everything to be normal a few years after. If you now factor-in the fact that the price of oil has dropped and Nigeria’s major source of revenue is oil, you’ll see why we seem to be going through a dark patch. But if you look at figures now you will see things are gradually improving so why would I want a change of government when things are now beginning to gradually lookup.
About the herdsmen issue, I have never seen a herdsman carrying a gun. There have been several attacks by cattle rustlers in places like Zamfara and Sokoto. When it happens in Zamfara they call them bandits but when it happens in Benue or Plateau they politicize it and call them Fulani herdsmen. Who do you think politicizes these things? Of course it’s the opposition party. And the truth is these attacks have been happening before Buhari came into power but media coverage wasn’t as much and it was not politicized. A party that loots and also politicizes the deaths of innocent citizens for political gain is both desperate and deadly and is not fit to govern.
Nigerians have been complaining about recycled politicians. I can categorically tell you that another four years for Buhari is the quickest way to welcome a new breed of politicians. Imagine if Atiku came in, after looting the treasury dry for 8 years he will now hand over to people like Saraki, Dino, Fayose, Wike etc. How will you wrestle power from such greedy people and how will Nigeria survive that?
I have been privileged to examine plans of technocrats in the Buhari administration and I can tell you that PDP cannot match such plans, they just don’t have the intellectual capacity to conceive and deliver such projects. The Next Level mantra is no joke. I have seen the master plan and I am convinced that another 4 years under Buhari will set Nigeria on the path to greatness. God bless Nigeria! Arrant rubbish! |

AlexReports: ONNOGHEN: Senate Should Suspend Buhari and Declare Saraki As Acting President; says Lagos Lawyer; Gives Reason Why It’s Legal
Reacting to the removal of Justice Onoghen as CJN by President Buhari, Lagos-based Lawyer, David Agu Esq., in a humorous, but interesting, post on Facebook, has urged the Nigerian Senate to save Nigeria’s democracy by suspending President Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo from the office of President and Vice President of Nigeria when they reconvene on Tuesday, January 29. Read his articulated humor below:
“There's something called anarchical approach to restoration of order (don't ask me who propounded that theory. I'm still looking for the person sef).
That is to say, most times, it takes a measure of madness to cure a mad man. Take Psychiatric doctors for example. Oh, you think they're normal?
Just like I had advised the other day, Senate has announced an emergency reconvening on Tuesday. And here's what I propose as a grand plan to appease the majority of the Nigerian masses at this time of anger: NBA should get to any Federal High Court first thing on Monday morning with a motion exparte, praying the court for an order directing the Senate to do all that is necessary to SUSPEND the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and his Vice, pending the restoration of the nascent Nigerian democracy to it's pre-2015 status quo.
The Senate should then, upon reconvening on Tuesday, move, as a matter of national emergency, to implement the order of the court, and forthwith suspend the President and his Vice, and proceed to swear in the Senate President as Acting Nigerian President.
Note that this does not amount to a breach of the Constitution. No Nigerian law provides for the suspension of the President, but it is trite law that the court can make law through their pronouncements, where loophole exists.
It's suspend they'll suspend him...not removal. Haba! Please, if we want to be mad in this country, let's be adequately mad. Let's go the full length. I don't like half-measures”
http://www.finishwork.com.ng/2019/01/onnoghen-senate-should-suspend-buhari.html?m=1 This to me sounds like how buhari kicked out the CJN on the purported order of the CCT, its fair game to me anyday.... Princedapace: Follow due process bro..
The timing, the speedy nature of the entire process, are the issues.
Buhari made a mistake.. Above all, the Judiciary is an independent arm of the govt.. It is like removing Buhari without due process.. what will u say if that is done to Buhari? Buhati is the leader of the executive, Saraki is the leader of the legislature, the CJN is the leader of the Judiciary. They are all independent and due process must be followed to remove them..
Has Buhari not been accused of harbouring corruption? Buhari was in the hospital out of nigeria for more than the number of days required for a president. He also withdrew money without the consent of the legislature, all these are impeachable offences, was he forcefully removed? No, becus to remove him, there is a long process informed. Anyone who forcefully removed him has committed an offence.
Make una get sense small. The judiciary is not a ministerial position, sir. Removing the CJN this way is like removing Saraki, the senate president without following recall process. How not to kick out the CJN, y do u have FIFA.

alizma: politics is a game, in fact, a "rough" game that must be played within the law. I don't know if there is sinister motive behind Onnoghen's suspension but whether there is or not, the Buhari camp with the help of Onnoghen himself has played within the law. 1. the law that vested right on Buhari to appoint CJN also vested on him the right to suspend the same person and also the right to appoint another person to act in his capacity. go and read Nigerian Law interpretation act. 2. the suspended CJN by his position is not expected to be found wanting or claiming ignorant of certain portion of Nigerian law or declared himself not sound in mind(Forgetfullnes) 3. Onnoghen has a written acknowledgement, admitting that he is rightfully accused but sighted forgetfulness which is not recognize by law as excuse. 4. Before the politicians get you into shouting what you don't understand, Onnoghen has only been suspended not sacked
Now let's look outside the law 1. Assuming that Onnoghen is from Kaduna, Katsina or even Kogi and a case like this comes up and he admitted and Buhari decides to retain him, will Nigerians especially those from the East in particular give their support and praise to Buhari for keeping him? 2. finally before you criticize Buhari, remember the Kemi Adeosun's case. ignorant was not taken as excuse then why now. Ur confusion knows now bounds, dis is an arm of govt, independent n has its way of choosing n removing erring members. Do u ever wonder y buhari could not remove saraki despite all d commando movements? Likewise, the judiciary should b allowed to do its job without interference. |

It is also important to note that the president suspended him based on a valid order of the CCT. If Onnoghen is not happy with the ruling of the CCT, he should simply appeal the ruling at the court of appeal. Till then, he remain suspended. So in ur argument, the CCT has judgement that supersedes that of the supreme court & court of appeal in nigeria according to the constitution? Is buhari bigger than the constitution? The exercise of powers by buhari does not include unilaterally removing or appointing a supreme court judge, it has a constitutional rule and its for reasons like this. Do u see how wantom destruction of lives by bokoharam and associated groups has crossed to zamfar n sokoto etc? Staro: Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja
The Nigerian Bar Association has called on the National Assembly to save Nigeria from what it described as a “coup against the judiciary.”
The NBA said this in a statement by its President, Mr. Paul Usoro (SAN), on Friday while reacting to the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
The association said in a statement titled, ‘Coup against the Nigerian judiciary and suspension of the Nigerian constitution,’ that President Muhammadu Buhari acted against the constitution by removing Onnoghen and swearing-in Justice Ibrahim Mohammed.
The NBA said, “We call on the Federal Government to avert the looming constitutional crisis precipitated by its ill-advised action. In particular, the Nigerian Bar Association demands the reversal of the purported suspension of. Justice Walter S C Onnoghen, GCON.
“We also call on the National Assembly to assert its constitutional authority and powers and prevent this slide into chaos and erosion of the rule of law.”
The association said the ex parte order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal which the President relied on in suspending Onnoghen was an abuse of court processes.
It added, “The NBA unequivocally rejects and condemns this attempted coup against the Nigerian Judiciary and evident suspension of the Nigerian Constitution by the executive arm of the Federal Government. The action of the executive portends a slide into anarchy and complete deconstruction of the rule of law and due process
“It amounts to an absolute breach of the constitution and the usurpation of the powers of the Senate and the Nigerian Judicial Council. It is unfortunate that the executive branch of government purports to suspend the CJN on the basis of an alleged ex-parte order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal – the same Tribunal that, to the knowledge of the executive, had, only the previous day, Tuesday, 22 January 2019 adjourned its proceedings to Monday, 28 January 2019 and has before it a Motion on Notice that is yet to be argued, seeking the same reliefs as were contained in the purported ex-parte application, to wit, the suspension of the CJN, among others.”
https://punchng.com/nba-urges-national-assembly-to-save-nigeria-as-buhari-suspends-cjn-onnoghen/ The Honourable Court in Nwaogwugwu v. President F.R.N. (2007) ALL FWLR (Pt. 358) 1327 at 1356, paras D - F (CA), held that the National Judicial Council is a creation of the Constitution. Politics › Re: Buhari Has Insulted The Constitution – Agbakoba Reacts To Cjn’s Suspension by Ellie01: 11:49pm On Jan 25, 2019 |
Anambralstson: Buhari had on Friday suspended Onnoghen and immediately appointed Tanko Mohammed as acting CJN. Explaining his reason, the President said he suspended Onnoghen, following an order from the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, asking him to wield the big stick. In a statement forwarded to DAILY POST, Agbakoba made it clear that Buhari’s action “is the most brazen assault on Nigeria’s constitutional history” and criticized Mohammed for accepting to be sworn in. “President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, is the most brazen assault on Nigeria`s constitutional history. “The President has obviously not listened to the advice of the Hon. Attorney General of the Federation or the Attorney General of the Federation has misadvised him or both. “President Buhari claims that the suspension of the Chief Justice Onnoghen is pending the determination of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT. This is simply not true. The CCT itself adjourned proceedings in respect of Justice Onnoghen`s matter in order to determine if it had jurisdiction to try Justice Onnoghen. The President`s decision contravenes the Ruling of the CCT. “There are at least six (6) pending cases in superior courts of Nigeria and one in the Court of Appeal. All these cases ruled that Justice Onnoghen should remain in office pending when all cases against him are resolved. These Rulings bind the President of Nigeria. In any case Section 292 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria sets out the procedure for removing or suspending the Chief Justice of Nigeria. The power to suspend or remove the Chief Justice of Nigeria vests in the Senate side of the National Assembly. “For all these reasons the purported suspension of Chief Justice Onnoghen is the gravest insult to Nigerian constitution in history. It is difficult to understand how President Buhari will expect my vote of confidence in the February polls if he wantonly denigrates and desecrates our Constitution. “I call on all Nigerians to take the strongest possible view of the President`s conduct. I am shocked that Mr. Justice Mohammed Tanko would have offered himself to be sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria. “I call on the Chief Justice of Nigeria to refuse to be pushed out of office. The NBA must rise to resist this assault to our constitution. Our judges must rise; Civil Society Organizations must rise. This is potentially the beginning of our descent into constitutional anarchy.”
