Hi House, If you are using the old yellow fever card, whenever you visit Nigeria kindly get the new one as those guys at check-in won't attend to you until you produce the new yellow fever card. I had a night flight, I had to pay R200 to get another yellow fever card despite having the old one which I took the vaccination for. Also I applied for that repatriation thingy, I was told my account will be credited in 16 days from Lagos. Since January 20th, I have been waiting yet no credit. Stupid enough my receipt was stamped as repartition paid. It's like I have lost that money. Eish... |
yang:I brought a Parrot drone with GPS module into the country in December, I was even scared the custom will seize it. I didn't seal it as it was my hand luggage. On getting to MMA, the only thing the custom lady asked me, was Oga wetin you bring come for me for christmas. I told her i haven't got any money that I am a student, she was like carry your bad market commot for my front. I was so relieve because my uncle who happens to be an architect paid for the drone and want to use it for business. But image if it was a military grade drone, Na so i for bring am in. |
samtol4:Eish bra. Veele, its expensive. Chilling with TYPOP. |

Hello house, who has recently been refunded the repartition fee of #110,000. What are the needed documents. I intend visiting the high commission in January. My study visa is still valid the end of 2015. Information reaching me is that you don't need the return ticket. All needed is to open a diamond bank account. Can anyone verify this? |
A few weeks ago I got a phone call from one of my girlfriends announcing that she got a boyfriend. I asked her what she intended to say to him about how they will protect their purity. She continued to tell that they have already talked about it and that they are “taking things slow,” and he “values” her virginity just as much as she does. This got me to think about two things: What does “taking it slow” mean? What do people think is the difference between “purity” and “virginity”? Couples all over the world will claim they are “taking it slow” but what does this really even mean? Does it mean the same thing to the both of them? Where do the physical boundaries start and end? Does “taking it slow” mean only kissing? And what kind of kissing? Kissing standing up is totally different and not nearly as stimulating as kissing each other while lying on the couch.I think when many people today discuss protecting one’s purity, they confuse “purity” with “virginity.” The value is placed on whether or not one is a virgin, not if they have compromised any other part of their body or mind to maintain their virginity. As a result, in many cases, one is technically physically still a virgin, but has compromised their body, mind, and heart to maintain their physical virginity. Consequently, failing to protect their purity. There is much more to living purely than abstaining from sexual intercourse. Purity is a life style. It is an everyday mode of being. Purity is not a choice. It is an instruction from God. God created sex as something good. Genesis says He created it for us to enjoy and to reproduce, “to be fruitful and multiply.” This is why He has given us body parts that were specifically made for sexual pleasure and baby making. However, God reserved sexual intimacy for the marriage relationship, and it is approved and blessed by God only in this context. Sexual activity represents a deep and powerful level of intimacy and vulnerability. By God’s intention, the only relationship God designed to thrive on and sustain this level of intimacy, is a godly, devoted marriage between man and woman, husband and wife. All physical intimacy between man and woman was created by God. Physical intimacy (holding hands, touching, sex, etc) is natural. Of course, it feels good. It is natural for a man and woman to want to further explore the unclothedness of one another. It is natural to be stimulated or aroused by the sights, sounds, touch, or even smells of one another. I believe this is why it is so hard to live purely, because it is a constant fight against our flesh, of what is natural. However, we have to remember that purity is a sacred gift from God. “Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun. And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And has given us this task of reconcilingpeople to him.” (2 Corinthians 5:17-18) When we surrender our hearts to Jesus we share in his glory with a renewed knowledge of God, a transformed way of thinking and behaving that begins to reflect God’s purity, His holiness, His spiritual wholeness. So, what is the truth about sex and purity? God created sex; therefore, it is natural, but God gifted purity. Therefore, it is supernatural. The only reason we are called virgins is because we have not had sex, thus we have not progressed in the natural timeline of humanity. The only reason we call ourselves pure is because God called us pure. The definition of purity is to be morally clean without blemish. The only way we are morally clean without blemish is because of the blood of Jesus. Through Jesus’ perfect sacrifice on the Cross He calls us pure. Impurity is something that is unacceptable to God. Therefore, by logic, purity could be defined as something is acceptable to God.So then, are you pure if you have never had sex? Not if you’ve been cheating the system in other ways. If purity was only based on sex, then after I got married I would no longer have to strive for a life of purity. Sexual abstinence is good, but your purity is NOT defined by your abstinence. It goes all the way back to the heart of the matter. Before you were kissing, before you were holding hands, before you were flirting – What were your intentions? What were you thinking about? What was your flesh saying? What were your desires? I never understood the value of my purity until I freely gave it away. I compromised my body, my mind, and heart because I was more concerned about how it felt and what my boyfriend at the time would think of me if I said no. I always grew up with the desire that I would wait until my wedding night to have sex. After college, I started dating a man in my church. We never really discussed boundaries…I mean, why would we? He was a Christian. I was a Christian. No worries there, right? (Newsflash: Christians aren’t immune to temptation!) Discussing physical boundaries never took place until the heat of the moment when we potentially crossed lines. The temptation to further explore one another’s bodies was constant and the pressure was great. In my mind, I always thought I would never do more than kissing before marriage. Just like all temptations, when we flirt with it for so long, it is only a matter of time before you do something you never thought you would do. I let him touch me in places that belonged to my husband. Lies of the Enemy bombarded my mind. I became more concerned with the question, “How far is too far?” rather than understanding what God meant by purity. We Christians love the already defeated game of, “How much can I get away with and still be a Christian?” I was alone, ashamed and had no one to talk to. I was so confused because I still had my virginity. I grew up in the church and so many of the teachings on purity was about being a virgin for your husband. So, why was I so consumed with the shame and disappointment as if I had had sex? Even though I maintained my virginity, I gave away my purity. It was clear to me that my actions in that moment were not acceptable to God’s standards. When I chose to be impure, I butchered the gift of purity in which Jesus died for. I realized that if I did not value my purity, a gift God gave me, then did I really value what Jesus did for me on the Cross? I learned a lot about the difference between purity and virginity during this season of my life. Purity is a way life, and my virginity is something I give. What mattered, was what I chose to do with what I now knew about the value of my purity. I wondered a lot how my future husband and I would protect our purity before marriage, and if I really had the strength to fight it. This was when the Lord began challenging me with the idea to not kiss my boyfriend until he was committed to me enough to be my husband. My first response to the Lord was, “Absolutely not. What kind of man would even want to be with me once I told him we cannot kiss?” Then God said to me, “Danielle, are you willing? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to protect your purity, the purity of your future husband, and your purity as one?” So I chose to take a huge leap of faith – I decided to wait until I was engaged to kiss my husband. (Let’s get things clear here before you go jumping to conclusions – I’m not saying kissing is a sin or that everyone has to wait until marriage. I’m simply telling you my story and how God chose to challenge me to trust Him more.) I made this commitment before my husband and I were even dating. The funny thing is that God was already dealing with my husband about waiting to kiss his future bride. When Rony and I chose to not kiss, God introduced us to so many new avenues of romance that I never knew even existed. It truly awakened something special. The choice to protect my purity, a gift that God gave me, began in my mind and in my heart first. Sometimes we have to get to a point where we are willing to do whatever it takes to keep us from compromising. So, I would ask you – Are you willing to do whatever it takes? Are you willing to destroy any DVDs, magazines, websites, etc. that keeps you tempted to pornography and hurts your marriage, or lack there of? Are you willing to stop talking to someone who continually causes you to lust? Are you willing to set physical boundaries with the person you are with, even though the world would say it is not normal? Are you even willing to pray and listen to what God has to say to you about it or are you too afraid to even go there with Him?? Sometimes we must be willing to do whatever it takes to protect ourselves from falling into the sins of our biggest temptations. Purity is now! Poorly equipped schools, counterfeit medicine and elections decided by money are just some of the consequences of public sector corruption. Bribes and backroom deals don’t just steal resources from the most vulnerable – they undermine justice and economic development, and destroy public trust in government and leaders. Based on expert opinion from around the world, the Corruption Perceptions Index measures the perceived levels of public sector corruption worldwide, and it paints an alarming picture. Not one single country gets a perfect score and more than two-thirds score below 50, on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). Nigeria seats on a score of 27 in 2014 ranking it as the 39th most corrupt country among 175 sampled countries and territories in the world according to Transparency International. Somalia had the least score of 8 making the most corrupt of the sampled countries. Corruption is a problem for all countries. A poor score is likely a sign of widespread bribery, lack of punishment for corruption and public institutions that don’t respond to citizens’ needs. Countries at the top of the index also need to act. Leading financial centres in the EU and US need to join with fast-growing economies to stop the corrupt from getting away with it. The G20 needs to prove its global leadership role and prevent money laundering and stop secret companies from masking corruption. The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be. A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). A country or territory's rank indicates its position relative to the other countries and territories in the index. This year's index includes 175 countries and territories. extrovert6:Been a postgraduate student it is expected that your supervisor/department/University will be responsible for the needed funding for your conference. Also you will need a letter of invitation from the conference organiser inviting you over for the conference. There is no need for a cousin or relative to sponsor your trip. There is the possibility of been granted the visa after the conference date. Best wishes |
TYPOP:Its pretty tricky, One of the criteria to collect the deposit is that you present a booked return ticket to depart the Republic once just before the expiration of your visa. So its like the deposit becomes your return ticket which I presume many people have. Also its a means to avoid the ease of proof of repatriation on the critical skill permit, which ought to be given by the prospective employer. I hope to get back on this too ASAP. Should visit the Embassy in Lagos in December and I will update the house on my finding. |
No man won wake up beside some of these faces. Na like horror movie. I hope say you no belong to their leagues. Eish. AfricanApple: |

Abuja — NATIONAL Youth Service Corps, NYSC, yesterday, explained that the N4,000 fee imposed on prospective corps members for printing of call-up letters on-line was for services and infrastructure to be deployed by the collaborating firm. Director General of NYSC, Brig-General Jonhson Olawumi, said the money was neither for the scheme nor the corps producing institutions as it was being alleged by some quarters. NYSC, in a bid to improve its operations in line with global cutting-edge technology, went into partnership with a private company, Messrs. SIDMACH Technologies Nigeria Limited, for the full computerisation of the mobilisation process. The citizens of Nigeria are just taken for granted. Of what benefit is NYSC, wasting a whole year while your counterparts in order parts of the world are advancing their career. |

I will be receiving and hosting two members of this forum to the Republic, who will be studying at University of Johannesburg. You believe anything is possible irrespective of the new rules. One love my people. Special thanks to TYPOP for the numerous advice provided on this platform. Can audio files be published on Nairaland. I have audio recordings of the meeting of students with Home Affairs officials at Sophia town Residence on Wednesday. maybe I can provide a link to it from my dropbox. the meeting centred around study permit and critical skill visa also on the new regulations. |
Emasel: I applied for 10 days and all the required documents(transcript, waec certificate and degree result) were attached to my application. If you are applying for saqa from Nigeria don't waste your money applying for 10 days processing. It's better to apply long before you will need the assessment results for any admission or travelling documentations. It's always take more than 10 days for them to process your qualification especially if your school is slow in responding to their communications. |
jaboza: Bank statement, paid hotel reservation, flight itinerary from SA,vacation letter from office, promotional letter from work, yellow card,..this are the documents..used for the first visiting visa....if the embassy says the document lack credibility kindly check inward if anything was tampered with. You seems not to be clear with Justwise questions. If you present the same document again and that reason for first denial surfaces you can get a five ban. The new immigration regulations has been implemented so be clear about what you are doing |
chemashie: you don dey talk eish abi?Yoh, Batum I just dey try nah. |

Thanks Moratiwa, your contribution is indeed needful. we are all trying to make people settle down as soon as possible. |
Happy new year to everyone in the house and most especially patrons of this thread. In continuation of my post visa advise for all those coming this month to South Africa most especially Students here is part 2. Some items are quite cheap here in South Africa like everything you will need to set-up a room as a student you can get them for cheap price also you can pay for premium quality things depending on how much you want to spend. But items like Phones to me its is very expensive if you are to pay a one-off payment but newly release phones are first placed on contract by different telecommunication firm for a period of two years. I will like patrons in the house to shed more light of the conditions for you to have such a contract phone. I use a Sony xperia Z, the last time i checked it goes for R8,000 i got mine from Uganda for about R5,000. With regards to plugs for your electronics, The Circular socket like that type for Air Condition in Nigeria is the standard here. So if you have a square plug you might need to get an adaptor to be able to connect to electricity. You can get these adaptor in the mall but it is difficult to come by so please if your devices are electricity hungry get your adaptor from Nigeria. You might want to ask if Nigerian food are available, Yes there are shops in Johannesburg that sells Nigerian foods but you need to do some findings about where they are located, if you reside in Johannesburg, i Know one is in Braamfontein. As to Nigerian cooking ingredient, the name are different here though the content might be the same so you have to know what you want in the mall. As for guys like me it was pretty confusing to get the ingredient i need to prepare some meals. Get a South African friend that you can go to the mall together for the first one or two visit so you have an understanding of what is packaged and you buy the appropriate items. With regards to opening of bank account, when you arrive the bank, let them know you want a student account. In standard bank, which i use at first there was a restriction for opening access account which was designed for student by international student so i had to settle for Plus plan, they charge a monthly fee of about R40, if you deposit money at the bank over the counter i was charged R49, some service charge of R16 and i was charged per swipe. In short it was an expensive account to operate so i had to complain about all the charges then i was told the restriction on the access account has been removed. So i encourage you to have a proper understanding on how the account you open operate. I am using Access account and made my charges per transaction so i perform like One transaction per month. I withdraw about R1,500 which is enough for me for a month, feeding, call, transport and the likes, mind you i am a student who uses the school transport everyday, No lover but i have friends and i am a very cautious spender so i can live within my limits. Please note some banks are strictly for South Africans, so don't feel embarrassed if you walk into a back and they tell you they cannot open an account for you. I can't remember the name of that bank, Patrons please help me on that. I understand the issue of accommodation is very important. Please before you make payment for your accommodation to any agent do find out about the area your house is located. honestly some places are not student friendly. If you are a peace loving student that uses Laptop and expensive phone which you have to take to school everyday and you don't have a control over the time you leave school please be careful. On the issue of keeping in touch with Nigeria. Calling from an MTN line from South Africa to MTN line in Nigeria is fairly as good and when you make an MTN to MTN call in Nigeria, you don't have to be scared that International call symptom. I have discovered if you call different network especially from MTN line to other network, yoh, your credit is gone. I learnt Cell C has the cheapest rate but i was not satisfied with their services. I will advice you get a phone that can chat. Many South African will rather chat than make a call. so to keep in touch get a chatting phone. I use 8.ta for my phone internet service. with R149, i get 2Gb data plus and extra 1Gb night plan from 11pm maybe till 6am. also 2GB wireless internet connectivity at some choice location like McDonald though i haven't gotten time to explore that wireless. so make a proper search on your area, if you have the services before you but your line. MTN is actually evrywhere you go, so also Vodacom. 8.ta coverage is still limited. This came to mind, I read about the BTA issue. just as someone said tell them you have a master card. But I will advise you before you are even asked about the BTA, the following set of offices at MMA will task you, Immigration, Custom and NDLEA. Please tell them you are a student and stand a ground that you don't have money. they will really disturb you. Attimes they will take your passport from you and ask you to go into a room. there you will meet like two officer, they expect you settle them before you can get your passport. I didn't pay a dime and it was my first time of travelling, though i was scared of them and their wahala. i had only about 60USD on me, na the 10,000 naira wey my papa give me i convert and they want to collect it, never. i hide for my hand luggage. so by the time a search was conducted it was the 200 naira in 20 naira and five naira note which i told them i have they found on me. so be wise also note there is a limit to amount you can travel with else you declare, please note this you might be arrested as a matter of fact i won't expect a student to be travelling with such money. any excess money should be in your bank account all you need is a master card. When you get here insert your master card and withdraw in rand, necessary conversion will be made and fixed charge will be deducted and you get a rand equivalent. also note this rate changes but have an idea of the rate and try as much to make a withdraw as much as you need. the fixed charge is irrespective of the amount. R10 and R1000 attracts the same fixed charge. so be smart. As event unfolds and lessons are learnt, I will update the forum. thanks |
samtol4: Elume gud write up but saying using atm is a waste is absolutely wrong .u had 20knair and u withdraw 1000krand how much do u want d atm to cough out ? U must ve balance in your account .I use my atm here and it works fine ,it is not every1 that have the opportunity of exchanging via lecturershonestly there was no balance. please which nigeria bank are you using and which SA bank atm do you use. Standard bank bills plenty probably that was why. |
