TravelRe: My Experience With South African Immigration At Port Of Entry. by elume2020(m): 10:23pm On Dec 28, 2013
Honestly a person's experience at an airport shared should just be a moral lesson. It is indeed disturbing how his experience has degenerated to pages of abuse and racial statement against citizens of both country. If Nigeria is the perfect place for you please reside there and make good of it. If South Africa is the perfect place for you please apply for a visa and visit the country. The essence of travelling outside the bother of your home country is to gain knowledge, compare what government of your home country is doing and possible get a business idea you could deploy on your return to your home country. But if all you have in your heart by default is hatred for the country you are visiting, honestly you might not get the best of your visit. Nigerian cultural system is completely different from the cultural belief of the people of South Africa. Nigeria and South Africa are great countries can we please respect both the countries and her citizen. If for any reason you have had a bad experience either in Nigeria or in South Africa, please note that an event cannot be generalized for the whole country. If anyone should generalized then that is fallacy, which means error in reasoning. On a concluding note, I am a Nigerian for avoidance of doubt and it is logical to appreciate people and their culture.

TYPOP: Nice summary. Only little snag is not all the Bureau de Change at the airport change Naira. A friend was stuck 3 weeks ago. But for that, you can withdraw with your ATM card. Like you said, thumbs up to the partons of this site. They helped us a lot.

How come you stay in Auckland Park and are in DFC campus? That's far man. Cheers, all the best.
I did an online arrangement for the house, I never knew how far it was, she sent me the address and google street view of the house. Yea its far but school bus take me to school everyday from UJ APK campus. Day i don't feel like going to school or my supervisor don't need me. I chill at APK campus. On the issue of Bureau de change, you are right but lot of money is always lost when you convert from naira to Dollar at MMA, then get here and convert to Rands. Also using the master Card withdrawal on ATM is also waste. Imagine i Had 20k naira in my GTb and when i tried withdrawing i could only get 1000 Rands out. well anyone should make provision for such losses. What i do is any money in my Nigerian account in naira, I look for Nigerian Lecturers that want to send money home, i get the account from them we do the conversion i get the rands equivalent and i send the naira equivalent. both parties saves some extra cash. Money transfer is via internet banking.

Hi all, Let me give my own appreciation to every comments made. I read through many comment while applying for my study permit and the information gathered here were indeed helpful. I got my study permit in August which is very unusual though i posted about it here and many seems not to believe. I am a student of the University of Johannesburg, Doorfontein Campus, a Masters student and have been here since September 9th to be precise. As I look forward many Nigerians that will be resuming come February, 2014 I wish you a successful studies here. I will advise on some little issues which i hope patrons of this forum can attest to. 1.

As you arrive your international passport is your only form of Identity, have it with you always, you practically cannot access anything without it until you have you school ID card and make sure you have both the biodata page and visa page scanned and keep it in you email should it get missing for any reason. but please try as much as possible to keep it safe. 2. You cannot get entry into the school without your international passport if your school ID has not be provided yet so have it with you always. 3. you cannot open a bank acount without your international passport, proof of accommodation (letter of residence, document of agreement of tenancy or any legitimate agreement for tenancy) and a proof of school registration note letter of admission is not accepted. 4. in the first few weeks of resumption it is adviced to be with all your documents each time you report to school, also make a photocopy of every document you receive for your personal keeps. 5. if you have to arrive campus early probably for registration, please make sure the sun is out if you have to go through Bree, wandarers and such places. 6. Try as much as possible to make arrangement for your accommodation in advance accommodation gets expensive during this season of admission. 7. The closer you are to school main campus the higher the rent just as it operate in Nigeria. also depending on the size of the room.

I live at Twickenham avenue at Auckland Park, close to UJ APK capmus and Campus square mall and i pay R2,200 for rent which covers the rent, power and water. If you have a phone with a map it will be an added advantage, but once you arrive you can register with Rea Vaeya Joburg City Bus but you will need a route map to know how the buses navigate but you can ask at the bus station and you will be directed on what code of buses and station you have to alight and change buses. 8. You can come with you Nigeria Drivers Licence if you have one and you have the luxury to own a car, I don't. but you will need what is called a traffic register. Driving is the other way round here, sorry i don't know the right word but they drive the opposite direction against how we drive in Nigeria so please for you safety until you get used to the driving convention look both right and left and where possible walk on the zebra crossing.

I was almost knocked down because i was look at the road as if it was a Nigerian road unknown to me the traffic was coming from the other end. but over time i got used to it. 9. If you have to use public transport, I will encourage you not to seat in the front seat where the driver is, In Joburg, the passenger at the front collects all fares and gives change then hands over the balance to the driver, you might be so unfortunate that the driver is Zulu and speaks only Zulu. In Cape Town the have a bus conductor but you have to open your ears wide apart to hear where they are heading to. If you are lost, walk up to a Police officer and politely ask for direction, possibly write where you are going in a piece of paper as your pronouciation might be completely wrong and they might not think on your behalf. I have spent time both in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Actually Joburg is in Gauteng Province and these Major Institutions are located there UJ, UniSA, Wits, UP. Western Cape (Cape town, Stellenbosh, UWC, UCP).

If your destination is cape town, you will have to get another plane from OR'Tambo airport to Cape Twon. By road, Cape town is about 1400km by road, so be ready for a roughly 15hours journey. Pretoria, UniSA can be connected by Gautrain. On a final note on this session please be weary of who pick you up from the airport if you don't have a plan. whatever currency you have there is a beurea de change within the airport. If i have any further information i will update you guys here. Please my info is majorly for students First degree, masters and PhD but can be useful to every other category. I still owe so much gratitude to patrons of this forums. One Love, drop you questions here.
TravelRe: My Experience With South African Immigration At Port Of Entry. by elume2020(m):
While reading through the Original poster (OP) story, it reminded me my experience at the OR'Tambo International Airport, instead of the hate I was favoured kind off but some statement were made that shows some signs of hatred for citizens of Nigeria. First problem was actually noticed from the SA High commission office in Lagos, I got my study permit in August which was very unusual because a light complexioned Nigerian lady told me point blank to come back in November but while she was just talk without any sign of emotion a South African staff, short dark lady came to the cubicle and asked what i wanted, then i explained the admission process the research i was coming for to her and she ordered the lady to give me the necessary documents and form. Eventually i got the study permit within 9 working days. Problem, It has an expiry date of 13/12/2013 but the study permit conditions stated ... until 31/09/2015. Two expiry date. On arriving OR'Tambo, fortunately a female was the first to attend to me. On spotting the different date she called a senior colleague, who later spotted that September has only 30 days. Though i complained about the two different expiry date on the visa granted the lady that handed over the passport to me right there in the Embassy say it was perfect the the condition supersede the expiry day but i was worried. So at OR'Tambo i was taken to their boss. Then the question and answer session started, Thanks to God i have read some few literature about my research so they asked what the research is all about and I downloaded it. Now the lady said she is going to help me because i seems knowledgeable. Then she put a call through to the Institution and the institution said i was not registered with them. Another wahala. Immediately i pulled out all document from my bag, showed her the admission form i filled and the scanned reply that bears my student number. Also i showed her the admission letter then i mention the name of my supervisor. So they called the school again to know if the said supervisor is a staff of the institution and the response was to the affirmative. The immigration lady requested the number of the supervisor, placed a call to him and he confirmed he was expecting today as i have sent him my itinerary before departing Lagos and a car was already waiting for me at the airport. The lady collected my passport took somewhere stamped and wrote on it until 09/2015. She advise me to visit the home affairs office and make necessary correction. She ended the whole help with the negative comments about what Nigerians are doing in the country, advise me and said she will keep tab on me, that if my passport number appears on any negative scene she will track me down. i was huh. The truth is many South African has mixed feelings about Nigeria and about themselves from tribe to tribe. They like us and at the same time are scared of us both for our intelligence, smartness and our bad side as well. Once you pass through OR'Tambo its not an absolute hatred, its up to individuals to prove his or her worth. But I will encourage anyone coming here for academic to be honest with himself, make good use of that visa granted and other doors will open for you. For holidays, enjoy it to the fullest so many places to visit. For our politician don't just come here to look at infrastructure and return to Nigeria to build low class structure and say its up to international standard to deceive people. See what is spent on education, buses lifting student from a bus stop to school at no cost. Internet access for our institution, good hostels and scholarship incentives with equality and not political favoritism. ASUU is not asking for too much but the problem is now beyond the fund, as changing the ideology of money making tactics from student of some these lecturer will be difficult.
Nairaland GeneralConfusion As Goat Delivers Strange Human In Ekiti by elume2020(op): 9:06pm On Nov 26, 2013
There was panic on Tuesday at Olori-Oko community, Ogotun Ekiti in Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area of Ekiti State,

as a goat delivered a creature that looked like a human being.

Olori-Oko community is about three kilometres to Ikeji Arakeji in Osun State.

Residents of the community and people from the neighbouring villages trooped out to catch a glimpse of the strange creature.

The goat was said to have delivered a ‘mystery human baby’ around 6am on Tuesday having fallen into labour around 8pm on Monday.

Our correspondent learnt that some residents took to their heels on sighting the strange creature.

A community leader, who spoke on behalf of the Village Head, Mr. Ganiyu Adetokun, (name not given) said a Pastor,

Daniel Odedele, came to the rescue of the goat when it became clear that it needed help to deliver the kid.

He said, “The ‘baby goat’ has human look, hair, head and female genitals. We were attracted to the scene as people

raised the alarm.”

The creature died close to an hour after as the people scrambled to catch a glimpse and take its picture.

Yes please, its a must.
TravelRe: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by elume2020(m): 12:35pm On Sep 09, 2013
I know it might be difficult to believe. The first day I went to the embassy, I was turned back by the security. So I called the consular on the available landline to explain my admission, which is a research backed with a scholarship. I was asked to check in the next day with the admission letter and letter of funding for sight seeing. After perusing through, I was given the form and asked to provide all the necessary documents. After which I came back for submission and was given a date to pick up. I paid the visa processing fee of 8600, repatriation of 110000 and some fee that will be made known to u at the bank. Diamond bank at adeola odeku. Don't pay any money until u r asked to do so. As a matter of fact ur name will be sent to the bank for payment. Without ur name on the list u can't make payment. Well I must state above all I was highly favoured by God all through the application process cos It took me just under three weeks to start the application and have the study permit.

kingmayor: As much as I would have loved to ignore your post, I just have to comment so that you will not mislead others. I know that lagos has stopped accepting all applications on study permit and they will start accepting applications again by November, even abuja center has also stopped. You might want to clarify your post, if your course of study is less than 3 months you will not be issued a study permit. So, which type of visa did you apply for, and its for which institution in South Africa?
I applied for a two year study permit and was granted. I will give more details asap.

PoliticsRe: Dangote Promises To End Fuel Import In 4 Years by elume2020(m): 2:01pm On May 24, 2013
Let me make some observations about the choice of locating this refinery in Ondo state. I have a projeect under construction in the Creeks of Ondo state, so i have been able to understudy the environment very well. From the on-going argument, Ondo state is amoung the Oil prooducing state in Nigeria, Ondo state has bitument for road construction and other uses, Ondo state has abundance of sand the type used as raw material for glass production, and lots more resources. The proximity of Ondo state to it market target is key. Ondo state shares boundary with Ogun state, an industrial hub, Edo state, connecting it to the South-southern part of the country for sales, Kwara, Through Ekiti state, Kogi State connecting it easily to the North central part of the country, Osun, Oyo are at stone throw to Ondo state and Lagos the commercial center. Delta, Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Calabar, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa can all be connected to by water ways for discharging of content to ports. With regards to militancy, Just like in every part of the Niger delta, Ondo state is not an exception, as a matter of fact the highest cache of weapons was recovered from Ondo state creeks. But the interesting thing here is, once you go into agreement with them and don't default you won't have a problem with them. Ondo State has oil blocks, the Bonga oil field is noot actually far (nautical miles) from Ondo shore, though its ceded to another state (politics). Crude oil oil could easily be transported, refined and discharged to nearby state with heavy industrial activities that requires the fractional by-product of crude, remember its not only petrol (PMS), Diesel (AGO) and kerosene (DPK) that are products of crude oil and many of these industries are concentrated in Ogun (Agbara), Oyo (Ibadan), Lagos (Mainland and Island), Kogi (Obajana) and lots more. Also don't be surprised if Alhaji Dangote buys up the Oluwa Glass industry due to his presence in the state and become the major supplier of glass to the construction industry, Cladding of building, which is in vogue now and for the manufacturing industries in the future. In conclusion, Locating the refinery in Ondo state is not a bad decision as we know feasibility studies would have been carried out and not sentiment studies. He is a businessman and not a politician. His businesses are for profit first, sustainability then philanthropy, where proximity to raw materials and market would have been critically analysed while putting into consideration the environment, security and other socio-economic factors.

Why are the oil companies kicking against the passage of the PIB bill into law using subltle means.
