So I grudgingly decided to watch the Nigeria game against Egypt this morning, just to see how Akinsanmiro, Nnadi and the new lads played. These are the sum of my observations and thoughts.

1. Eric Chelle's profiling of players remains questionable to me. As good as Akinsanmiro is, I never imagined he'll be playing CAM in the SE. I'll give Chelle the benefit of the doubt that perhaps he was saving Iwobi to be fresh for the AFCON proper and Chukwueze wasn't in camp yet.

2. I guess this is Eric Chelle's first official loss coaching the main Super Eagles.

3. Moses Simon might have just lost his starting spot to Chidera Ejuke. He's not perfect but he does literally everything Moses does (or tries to do) and is slightly better.

4. I have to confess, Salim Fago impressed me in the last few minutes. Maybe it's because I was expecting him to be complete dogwater. But I like his intensity. He might be our joker for this AFCON and I wish him well.

5. I found it rather amusing and interesting that an Egyptian Team A (minus Salah and Marmoush) were mostly parking the bus against a Nigerian Team B. Don't let banter deceive you. Nearly every CAF team fears us. Even the so-called elites. 😂

6. TOO MANY BACKPASSES!!!! I'll never understand why Super Eagles can't evolve from this cowardly backpassing. Even in moments were we would have made sharp runs into the Egyptian 18 yard box, we were passing all the way back to the defense. It's starting to look more like cowardice and low self confidence than just being cautious.

7. Our defenders are easily outplayed. That's going to be a huge problem.

8. Speaking of our defense, I don't know why Ryan Alebiosu wasn't given minutes to play. He should have at least come on to see the game off. If Eric Chelle is thinking of starting Osayi-Samuel in this AFCON... Lol.

9. I'm happy that Nwabali seems fit to start. Hopefully he stays fit till the final (if we can get there). There's hardly any difference between Obasogie and Uzoho in my eyes.

Overall, I'm slightly disappointed. This same Egyptian side lost woefully to Uzbekistan and Jordan just last month and this month respectively. We're busy overdosing on hopium that Nigeria might sneak into the World Cup. And if we do, we'd end up in the same group as Portugal, Colombia and Uzbekistan. Does this now mean we'll struggle to beat Uzbekistan who are supposed to be the minnows in that group?

I would have hoped that we'd get a draw with Egypt at the very least. I know we played with our second squad but a straight loss is still poor to me regardless.
The match was not an official game ,so it won’t be part of chelles record meanwhile he be like say Congo ppu knw say dem flaunt deir laws o

Why don't we park bus as well against these teams and stop conceding? My rantings are not fueled by my assessment of this friendly alone, but of our previous games too. This is a tournament we are going into and the team has to be critiqued wherever they are failing.

Nope, because you sounded like an Illiterate. How dare you say “Wetin consign FIFA with Nationality law” knowing fully well that Cyber and Fraud is a popular thing in today’s world. There are people that has lost Millions of dollars through Cyber crime. And if “Nothing consign FIFA with Constitutional Law” occurs. It means that Any footballer can just fraudulently obtain or forcefully steal another national team passport and send to FIFA for Clearance. After all, fifa are only paying attention to a national team passport. Nigerians do not even respect our Constitutional Law and are projecting that Mindset towards the world. We had Nigerians advocating for jailing Nnamdi Kanu prior to his life sentence despite a federal Court bailing him previously. At the end of the day, the law is the law and it has to be adhered

You must be an illiterate. Wetin consign fifa with nationality law? If I fictitiously obtain another National team passport and send it to fifa, they should clear me when it was an obvious Theft? The only way that I see congo getting out of these is for the aforementioned players clearly indicating with Documented evidence of their Renouncing their other national team passport with evidence. For example, Aaron wan bissaka has to disclose with documentation of his renounciation of his British passport prior to November 11. Anything contrary, it sets a bad precedent on FIFA laws and its laws shouldn’t be respected. Players like Orban should be playing for the super eaglea

if eventually drc congo is disqualifed what will happen to the teams they played in the WCQ group as well as cameroon
I believe that if a qualifying series was concluded before FIFA began its investigation into the DRC case, it would not be considered. Instead, what would be considered is the qualification stage that was ongoing when the issue was raised, which is the playoff. The question now is: what will happen to Cameroon?

If (a very big if) FIFA suspends DR Congo and Nigeria eventually makes it to the world cup

1. Will Troost-Ekong come out of retirement to play in the world cup?

2. How will Maduka Okoye be feeling with his decision to opt out of the AFCON and the possibility of the coach axing him from the team and not selecting him for America?

I imagine both would have conflicted emotions, and be ruing their decisions.

FIBA and FIFA rules hold the concept of 'nationality' which slightly differs from state level requirements, i.e., citizenship ≠ Nationality. That's why I earlier said that FIFA won't make any decision from DRC's constitution and laws. They have their own rules.

However, citizenship is constitutional right conferred at birth. You don't apply for citizenship (birth and descent). You apply for documents BECAUSE you are a citizen. The government can never legally refuse you a passport because that will be unconstitutional.

Note the use of the word 'ARE'. Not 'ELIGIBLE TO'. They already are.

Last comment I'll make on this issue sha.

The way you described citizenship is not the way it works. If you are a citizen of a country by descent, you're a citizen from the moment you are born. Whether you have a passport yet or another nationality. it doesn't matter. Eberechi Eze, Olise, Saka, Musiala are all bonafide Nigerian citizens. Citizenship by descent is a citizenship acquired at birth not by applying for anything. So technically all DRC dual nationality players are DRC citizens to start with. FIFA also recognizes citizenship by descent.

Now in a country like DRC, the executive government which enforces the law, is meant to revoke Congolese citizenship for dual citizens that don't voluntarily drop their foreign citizenship after 21. Now, If the DRC federal government does not revoke it, the citizenship is still valid. it is not an automatic loss.

DRC deliberately doesn't revoke citizenship anymore because they don't want to. A moratorium was passed in 2007 to put revocations permanently on hold pending review of their constitution.

I like your optimism but the Congolese parliament will just make a retroactive law to make all of this an exercise in futilely if the NFF is truely pursuing this line of action.

Not that I don't want Nigeria to be at the WC if FIFA lands an unlikely hammer on Congo but the chances of that happening is next to none.

I watched the so-called highlights of the game Uzoho played in that conference league. It seems he has worked a bit on his ball clearance but the werey is still somewhat shaky in certain moments, punching balls directly towards opponents, having dodgy positioning etc. Even the saves he made didn't look too convincing. I do NOT trust him, and I don't see him lasting a full 90 mins at the AFCON without conceding at least once or twice per game.
He won’t keep at d afcon
