Politics › Dasukigate: I’m Not At War With Buhari, EFCC Over Court Orders —CJN by emamos(op): 7:35am On Jan 14, 2016
THE Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, said, last night, that he was not at war with President Muhammadu Buhari or any agency of government over the purported non-compliance with court orders freeing suspects of the arms scandal who were granted bail by judges.
Justice Mahmud Mohammed
A top source in the judiciary toldVanguard, last night, that contrary to claims in certain quarters that the CJN was furious with Buhari for allowing EFCC to ignore court orders freeing the Dasukigate suspects, Mohammed had nothing to do with the issue.
The top official noted that though there were concerns among judges that some of their orders had not been carried out to the letter by some government agencies, there was also fury in the judiciary that many judges had aided and abetted top government officials to loot the treasury with impunity through frivolous orders and injunctions which were against the interest of the country and its people.
The senior official close to the CJN said: “I don’t think that the CJN has issued any statement on any court order relating to the investigation of the arms cash, individuals or groups since he believes that the courts are well able to discharge their duties as enshrined in the laws of Nigeria.
“Again, the thinking in the judiciary seems to be that some judges misused their offices to encourage some corrupt key government functionaries to slip away to foreign land with huge public funds under the guise of seekingavant-gardemedicare.
“If the question may be asked, was it the CJN that ordered those judges to work against the interest of Nigeria by granting frivolous orders that enabled corrupt Nigerian public officers to make away with public funds?
“Let it be known that the CJN does not and will never encourage any form of misdeed having taken the oath of office to remain incorruptible, just and firm in the discharge of his duties to Nigeria and its people.
“I can tell you that the CJN is aware of the frivolous orders being issued by some judges and he cannot, therefore, sympathise with people who threw their integrity to the winds when they should have done the right thing at the right time.”
Yesterday, the media was awash with claims that the CJN had fallen out with Buhari over his refusal to obey court orders granting bail to some suspects implicated in the sharing of $2.1 billion meant for arms procurement.
In particular, the commentators said that the CJN was upset that the President had not released the former NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), and the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, from detention after being granted bail by courts

Politics › FEC Approves $200m Loan For Lagos by emamos(op): 1:58pm On Jan 13, 2016
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved $200 million World Bank loan for Lagos State.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed and his Power, Works and Housing counterpart, Babatunde Fashola.
According to them, it was part of a $600 million loan granted by World Bank for roads and other infrastructural development projects in the state.
While the first batch of $200 million was approved in 2010, subsequent batches were reportedly delayed by the last administration for political reasons.
Mohammed said: “We just finished the Federal Executive Council meeting and the major item which will be of interest was the Council’s approval of the memo put forward by the Minister of Finance to obtain additional $200 million loan from International Development Association (IDA), which is a window of the World Bank in support of the Lagos State development policy operation.”
He said the new approval will allow Lagos State to complete its very ambitious projects.
Fashola, who initiated the loan as governor of the state, noted that the $200 million loan was a segment of a total sum of $600 million loan for developmental initiatives in Lagos which was approved in 2010

Elder statesman and former political adviser to ex-president Shehu Shagari, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of punishing members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with his anti-corruption crusade.
He said that Buhari was insincere with his fight against corruption.
Yakassai, who doubles as chairman of the Northern Elders’ Council, told newsmen in Abuja that any fight against corruption must be holistic rather than being centred on just an individual.
He flayed the current government for its open disrespect for valid court orders, urging him to obey all court orders relating to the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
He said: “The federal government of Nigeria is only fighting Sambo Dasuki. Should the fight against corruption begin and end with Dasuki? Is he the only ‘corrupt’ person? Till today, they have not even started his case in the court. He was granted bail twice and they refused to let him go. This is not a fight against corruption. It is a propaganda fight.
“They even convinced people like Prof Wole Soyinka who now believes that there is a fight against corruption, but there is no such thing. Otherwise, how many people have they arrested?
“All the people that are arrested today are connected with Dasuki. No other person has been picked. What of the governors, ministers, top civil servants and local government officials? Can you fight one person and say you are fighting corruption?

Politics › I Did Not Receive Money From Dasuki–ribadu by emamos(op): 8:52pm On Jan 12, 2016
The pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, has denied ever receiving any money from the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
Ribadu said in a statement on Tuesday denied insinuations in some quarters that he returned some money he received from the former NSA.
He explained that he had nothing to do with Dasuki while he was in office and could not even remember meeting him during the period.
The former EFCC boss said that it was shocking for somebody to insinuate that he collected money and return same from a man he never met.
He added that he had not been contacted by any security agency on the allegation to warrant him to refund the money he didn’t even collect.
Ribadu challenged those pushing the story to come forward with documentary proof of the allegation.
He said, “My attention has been drawn to insinuations in certain quarters of my purported repayment of some monies I was allegedly given by the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd).
“For the record, let me categorically state that I had nothing to do with the former NSA while he was in office. I cannot remember meeting him at any time while he held sway.
“It is therefore shocking for me to be accused of receiving something from someone I never had any relationship with, not to talk of refunding money he gave me.
“Let me reiterate that I did not receive any money at any time from the ex-NSA, either directly or through a proxy. There is therefore no reason for me to make any refund.”

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun says he expects the new state Traffic Control boss, Fatai Olaseni Ogunyemi, to apply the full weight of the law so as to enforce discipline.
Amosun stated this Monday while decorating the new Commander and Chief Executive Officer of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) during the State Executive Council meeting.
Amosun said: “Our TRACE should ensure that it is one law for everybody regardless of status. Even if the Governor takes one way, you should arrest him.
“This is a wake-up call to everybody. Anyone who breaks traffic law will be prosecuted.”
The governor decried the indiscriminate parking of trucks on the median along the Lagos-Sagamu expressway, as well as Sagamu Interchange.
“I want the agency to endeavour to put an end to illicit parking of trucks on the median at the Sagamu Interchange and Sagamu–Benin expressway.
“These drivers should be brought to book without leaving any stone unturned”, he stated.
He further warned that any one or persons that assault traffic officers would be dealt with.
The new TRACE Commander told newsmen that “whoever flouts traffic laws, would be taken to psychiatric hospital before prosecution.”
Ogunyemi disclosed that the agency would engage in increased public enlightenment

Politics › Jonathan Was Swindled By Chibok Girls Negotiators – Adesina by emamos(op): 6:33am On Jan 12, 2016
The Federal Government through the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has disclosed why President Muhammadu Buhari was very careful on the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
Femi Adesina, said the negotiators engaged by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, made the negotiations a commercial venture running into millions of Naira, only for the government to discover it had been swindled.
“We need to know a little bit of what happened behind the scenes, between the last government and some people masquerading as the leadership of Boko Haram who wanted to get the Chibok girls released. They actually turned it into a franchise, it became a commercial thing and they got money, possibly in millions of dollars, only for government to discover it had been swindled”.
They kept saying they could get the girls released, they could interface with Boko Haram and they went smiling to the bank with all that money, and nothing happened. So you should understand why this government is being careful and the President has said the genuineness of the leadership of Boko Haram must be determined before any negotiation takes place”.
Femi Adesina also defended Buhari on his stance over the bail granted former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) and IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, saying Buhari was right in saying that, if there are no fresh charges against the men, they would be free to go.
On the night of 14–15 April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. Responsibility for the kidnappings was claimed by Boko Haram, an Islamic Jihadist and terrorist organization based in northeast Nigeria.
On 17 October 2014, hopes were raised that the 219 remaining girls [clarification needed] might soon be released after the Nigerian army announced a truce between Boko Haram and government forces. The announcement coincided with the six-month anniversary of the girls’ capture and followed a month of negotiations mediated in Saudi Arabia by Chadian president, Idriss Déby.
The announcement was met with doubt as this was not the first time the Nigerian government had claimed a breakthrough in negotiations with the Islamic militant group – it had to backtrack on a previous announcement in September after saying the girls had been released and were being held in military barracks.
The Islamist group Boko Haram wants to institute an Islamic caliphate in Nigeria and is in particular opposed to western-style modern education, which they say lures people away from following Islamic teaching as a way of life.[Thousands of people have been killed in attacks perpetrated by the group, and the Nigerian federal government declared a state of emergency in May 2013 in Borno State in its fight against the insurgency. The resulting crackdown has led to the capture or killing of hundreds of Boko Haram members, with the remainder retreating to mountainous areas from which they have increasingly targeted civilians. However, the campaign has failed to stabilise the country. A French military operation in Mali also pushed Boko Haram and AQIM terrorists into Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Abuja spoke of a “love relationship” between him and the game of football.
The President was speaking after receiving the Glo/CAF Platinum Award for Good Leadership which was conferred on him last week in Abuja in recognition of his support for football, which resulted in Nigeria winning two major international tournaments last year.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Solomon Dalung received the award on behalf of the President and presented it to him at the Presidential Villa today.
“Under your administration, we won the Under 17 World Cup and we also won the Under 23 African Cup of Nations.
“We have had very good fortune in football since you came to office and the sports family is very happy,” the Minister of Sports told President Buhari while presenting the award to him.
Responding, President Buhari recalled that Nigeria first won the Under-17 World Cup in 1985 in China, when he was military head of state.
“Thirty years after the first victory, Nigeria won again last year. What a fabulous coincidence. I think football loves me,” the President said.
He thanked the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for honouring him with the award.
The Glo/CAF Awards are held annually to reward deserving players, coaches, managers and supporters of African football

Politics › #DASUKIGATE: Yes, We Received N100 Million From Anenih But Not From Dasuki -SDP by emamos(op): 8:24pm On Jan 11, 2016
On Monday, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) admitted to receiving N100 million from the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Anenih but not from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki as has been speculated in the media.
#DASUKIGATE: Yes, We Received N100 Million From Anenih But Not From Dasuki -SDP
This revelation was made in Abuja today by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Dr.Abdul Ahmed Isaiq at a press briefing held at the National Headquarters of the Party. Dr. Isaiq noted that the PDP, through Tony Anenih, contributed the sum of N100 million in order to shore up the SDP/PDP electoral alliance project.
These funds, according to Dr. Isaiq, were procured from the former Finance Minister, Olu Falae, and not from the Arms Procurement Fund (APF).
Therefore, Dr. Isaiq stated, the SDP would not refund a dime to the Federal Government (FG), as the Party did not receive any of the illicit $2.1 billion because the source which the money came from was not the APF. He maintained that the Party is ready to take legal action to defend itself in any court of law.
Below you can find the press release in its entirety:
Our attention has been drawn to a libelous and misleading story trending in the social media and some newspapers , that the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Chief Olu Falae GCON, OFR collected N100M (One Million Naira Only) alleged largesse said to have been immorally disbursed from Armed Procurement Fund by Colonel Sambo Dasuki, the former NSA . We are dismayed by this story and hereby wish to state as follows:
1. That the SDP was approached by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through its BOT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih for an electoral alliance for the re-election bid of the former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
2. That Chief Olu Falae being the National Chairman (SDP) summoned the National Executive Committee (NEC) of SDP to a well-attended meeting to consider the PDP’s proposal of Electoral Alliance for the re-election bid of former president Jonathan since SDP did not field a presidential candidate of its own.
3. That the SDP NEC debated thoroughly the electoral alliance proposal and finally gave overwhelming approval for the electoral alliance with PDP. The NEC further empowered Olu Falae to communicate the readiness of SDP to work with the PDP for the victory of former President Jonathan, but based based on certain cardinal objective principles which must be agreed upon such as zero tolerance for corruption ,youth employment, increased capital funding allocation and acceptance of the Confab report among others.
4. That consequent upon this agreement, the PDP through Chief Tony Anenih contributed the token sum of N100m (One Million Naira Only) to the SDP/PDP electoral alliance project through Chief Olu Falae. It is to be noted that the SDP spent well above N100m for the execution of the project throughout the country during the presidential campaign and election period.
5. That the said N100 million was most transparently disbursed to our SDP field organizations, especially to areas where we had more support than PDP, and we have a full report of the transparency with which our State chapters utilized the money for the purpose it was meant.
6. That it is obvious from the above, and pertinent to state here that neither SDP nor Olu Falae was aware of Colonel Dasuki arms deal money given through Mr. Anenih. The SDP, as well as many Nigerians, were aware of the fact that the PDP had a fundraising event prior to the election where billions of naira were donated. The SDP is also conscious of the fact that the PDP are capable of funding their part of an electoral alliance with SDP. We hereby affirm that neither the SDP nor Olu Falae has anything to do with the $2.1billion Arms Deal debacle. Our alliance was not based on monetary inducement but on 6-points of cardinal objectives, which we believed could benefit the country at this crucial time
Thank you all.
Dr.Abdul Ahmed Isaiq
National Publicity Secretary

Politics › Why We Released Apc’s Jafaru Isa, Still Detain Pdp’s Olisa Metuh – EFCC by emamos(op): 7:41pm On Jan 11, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has denied claims it was on a witchhunt of leaders of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party after its continued detention of Olisa Metuh and release of Jafaru Isa, an All Progressives Congress chieftain.
Ibrahim Magu, the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, told journalists Monday that while Mr. Isa had begun the process of refunding the money in his possession, Mr. Metuh had refused to do same.
‎”From the records, Metuh got over N400 million, he has not said anything because we need the public money to be returned so that it’s going to be used for public good,” Mr. Magu said during a meeting with online media publishers in Lagos.
“Also Jafaru Isa, what Dasuki gave him was N170 million. He also agreed…of course he has collected that money, he was with us for 4-5 days and then he made a deposit of N100 million and entered an undertaking to bring the rest. That does not mean we will not prosecute him.”
“But this other Metuh, instead of going for a refund, he has admitted he collected money…. so instead of… he still has the money because the money is too much. Instead of returning the money, he preferred to go on strike.”‎
Mr. Isa, a former military governor of Kaduna State, was arrested last Wednesday by EFCC operatives for allegedly receiving N170 million from the embattled National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
Mr. Metuh, the Spokesperson of the PDP, has been in EFCC custody since January 5‎.
The EFCC boss insisted the Commission is not selective in its anti-corruption war‎, noting that only people involved in “some certain action or inaction of corruption” are being invited for questioning.
“Nobody who is not corrupt, who is not involved, is with us,” he said.
“In all the cases, we conduct preliminary investigation. We work hard. If it is company you used, we unveil the profile of the company to see who owns the company. If it’s money, we make sure we follow the money, in your account.
“So it is not true that we just go and carry people and dump them‎. Sometimes you have to give chance to the person accused to say his own side of the story. And in the process the man will disclose a lot of things that you may not know. So it is very necessary for you to follow up on the information received from the person arrested, to strengthen whatever you have.
“We don’t keep people for more than 10-15 days. In fact, in most cases, we obtain relevant court orders. In all cases, if you see we keep somebody, there must be a supporting court order.
“If you are not corrupt, we will not have any cause to invite you. So we only invite corrupt people, no selective.”
Mr. Magu also said he had begun an internal cleansing of the EFCC to weed out corrupt operatives from the anti-graft war.
“I don’t want to disclose what the Commission is doing but I’m telling you I will not work with anybody who is corrupt because there is no moral justification to come and make noise‎, and chase corrupt people when you are yourself corrupt.
“We do not have sufficient personnel – lawyers, detectives the way we want. But the little we have we try to make use of whatever we can lay our hands on.”
