Among the one thousand three hundred and ninety (1,468) successful candidates that were called to Bar by the Body of Benchers at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, last Thursday July 13th are five ex-militants; Barr. Ajama Ebiwolatei Nimibofa, Barr. Iluyemi Timibra Ernest, Barr. Ogbemerun Adebanjo, Barr. Perekekeme Andrew Efe and Barr. Yanyangbini Eric Pere, who are beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

Speaking at a reception organized in their honour, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta/Coordinator of the Presidential Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh (Rtd), represented by his Special Adviser, Dr. Ken Ehigie, to be guided by the code of practice, saying that the Presidential Amnesty office would do everything within its mandate to build peace and to provide a sustainable platform for the youths in the Niger Delta region.

The Amnesty boss enjoined the young lawyers to be exemplary in their conduct and remain shining lights among the youths as true ambassadors of the programme through their practice of law, maintaining that the Federal Government of Nigeria has demonstrated its commitment to ensure peace, stability and development of the Niger Delta region.

In his remark, the Technical Assistant to the Amnesty Coordinator, Major Abdul (Rtd) urged the beneficiaries to go out there to preach peace, pointing out that violence and other forms of anti-social conduct will rather impede development in the region.

He reiterated that war will not help anyone and appealed to all and sundry to sheath their swords and come to the negotiation table for meaningful dialogue in resolving differences.

Also, speaking, Head of Central Registry/Call Centre, Colonel (Dr.) Moses Perekeme Bokeyerinbrabo (Rtd) while thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for continuing with the Amnesty programme, enjoined the new wigs to remain focused, reiterating that ? As learned gentlemen, called to the Bar, you are in a position to educate our brothers and sisters in the Niger Delta on the need to eschew violence and to embrace peace.

In her remark, Head, Vocation/Skills Training, Mrs. Faith Omofunma said several youths from the region have been empowered in compliance with the mandate of the programme to give delegates sustainable sources of livelihood.

Earlier, the Director of Legal Services/Legal Adviser to the Amnesty boss, Barr Prince Alabo had expressed confidence in the young lawyers, informing that these were the first set of lawyers the Amnesty programme has produced.

He further disclosed that all things being equal, a second batch of twenty nine delegates who are currently in the Law School are at expected to be called to Bar in November, saying that the Amnesty programme has empowered several youths in the Niger Delta in line with its mandate, just as enjoined the beneficiaries to conduct themselves in a manner that will reflect their profession as lawyers.

Barr. Alabo encouraged them to do their work in an orderly and diligent manner, stressing the need for hardwork to excel in their practice as young lawyers.

Barr. Yanyangbini Eric Pere, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues was full of appreciation for late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua for providing the amnesty platform for youths in the region to be empowered educationally through the scholarship scheme.

He also thanked President Muhamandu Buhari and the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme, Brigadier Genenral Paul Boroh for continuing with the programme, saying that they will continue to be good ambassadors of the federal government and spread the success story of the programme.

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has stressed that he has dropped Mathew from his names, even though it made it to his birth names. 

The former Nigerian President who disclosed this at an event organized in his honour by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) , said he dropped the name because of the Biblical character, Mathew, whom he was named after, was a tax collector. 

“When I was born, my mother and father decided to name me Matthew. I grew up being called and addressed Matthew. What is the meaning of Matthew in the Bible? He was a tax collector,” he said.

“So, when I grew up, I dropped Matthew from my name. If anyone does not want to see my eyes red, no one should call me Matthew again. People ask, what is in a name? For me, there is so much in a name.”

“A doctor’s mistake often leads to the death of one patient,” he said.

“A lawyer’s mistake leads to the client going to jail. But if an engineer makes a mistake that leads to the collapse of a bridge or house, many people would lose their lives.


“That is why engineers must be very careful and must be efficient not to allow mistakes to be made.”

Coming after Mavins' artiste Iyanya, tweeted about 'Real Friends', in which he revealed nobody needs 'old long ass friends with evil intentions', Nollywood actor, Don Saint has called out the singer saying he should 'remove the evil intentions and tell the world the truth and everyone will understand'. 

Don Saint went on to disclose what he told Ubi Franklin, Iyanya's ex-label Boss, when he was acting like 'Buhari' Nephew'. Here's what Don Saint wrote as he shared Iyanya's photo and tweet;

Ace Nigerian comedian, AliBaba has taken to Instagram to share what he thinks after reading about BBNaija's Thin Tall Tony's wife's clapback which made headlines yesterday. This came after Thin TallTony took to Instagram to celebrate his wife, saying if he could do it all over again, he would fall inlove with her over and over again.

A 70-year-old man has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command for reportedly raping the granddaughter of his childhood friend and neighbour, an offence he has long confessed to.

Briefing newsmen on the incident, DSP Magaji Majiya, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, said the suspect was arrested at Gaida Fadama quarters for sexually assaulting the eight-year-old girl after giving her N400. “He confessed to the crime and investigation is still in progress,” Majiya added.

39-year-old Marvyn Iheanacho, who reportedly flew into rage and killed his girlfriend's 5-year-old son, Alex Malcolm, in Mountsfield park in Catford, south-east London, after he lost one of his trainers, has been arraigned in court. 

Witnesses who testified in court said they heard  a “child’s fearful voice saying sorry”, loud banging, and a man screaming about the loss of a shoe during a violent assault on the evening of 20 November, 2016. 

It was gathered that Alex Malcolm died as a result of the fatal head and stomach injuries he sustained from the incident. 

“The prosecution say that he died at the hands of this defendant, a man who was looking after him, acting as his stepfather, but who on the afternoon/early evening of November 20 last year, lost his temper and violently assaulted the boy, causing him fatal head and stomach injures,” said the prosecutor, Eleanor Laws QC. 

A jury of seven men and five women heard he was in a relationship with Alex’s mother, Lilya Breha, and would often stay at her flat in Catford. One witness, Sarah Strugnell, allegedly saw Iheanacho bend down to the child and ask where his shoes were. 

“The man was very angry indeed and Sarah Strugnell describes how he was raging at the child who was very quiet,” said the prosecutor. 

Judge Mark Dennis QC told jurors the main issue in the case is how Alex sustained those injuries and said the trial will last between two and three weeks. The trial continues.

Badoo, the dreaded cult group that has terrorized Ikorodu residents and led to jungle justice on those alleged to be members of the group, have striked again. 

The attack was carried out at Crystal Church of Christ (C&S) Aladura at no 4, Victor Anibaba Street, Owode Weigh Bridge, along Ikorodu road last night.

A Nigerian parent has taken to social media to show how angry he was finding out that a JSS1 textbook teaches Masturbation as a way of abstinence. 

The Facebook user, Bello Abdullahi, who shared photos of the textbook, wrote; 

"Brethren, What can we do about this?

Subject: MASTURBATION IS BEING TAUGHT IN OUR SCHOOLS AS AN ABSTINENCE SKILLS

A matter requiring urgent action Can you imagine that a Universal Basic Education textbook, a completely Nigerian initiative for JSS1 students contains lessons on how to masturbate?

It is taught as part of abstinence skills so that nobody will suspect what is going on. If you were going through your children notebook and you found the topic “Abstinence”, you will probably thank God that sanity is being brought back to our children but you will be wrong.

What is taught as abstinence is simply alternative ways of having sex. Below are scanned copies of the textbook page and front cover. God gave the responsibility of education to parents. We me delegate the task but not the responsibility.

We must keep a close watch on what is being taught our children at school and re-educate them in line with scriptures. Please alert other parents and let’s protect our children."

Taking to Instagram to narrate a bitter experience in the hands of an Uber driver, a Nigerian lady, Christabel Bello who doesn't live in Lagos disclosed that she could have been killed by the Uber driver who robbed her.

According to her, the incident happened on 27th June, 2017 and here's her story;

"My ordeal in the hand of uber. My name is Christabel Bello. I live in Warri Delta. I am not so conversant with Lagos. My friend @jokkies_xclusive_fabricsconvinced me to use uber. I really have my doubt on uber bordering on security being that Nigeria is a 3rd world country I used uber last month she booked me with her account i enjoyed the ride no issue whatsoever.

On Tuesday, 27th of June i requested that she book Uber again. I actually spent the whole weekend at her house including Monday. The Uber driver Justine was prompt. He got there around 7.30pm. We exchanged pleasantries and we set off. He didn't ask me anything so i assumed he knew what he was doing. Suddenly he asked that we were at Apapa should he take the bridge or under the bridge. I was shocked. I responded, what i'm i doing in Apapa?

I dont know anywhere in Apapa and i asked if he knew National stadium. He said yes then i said when we get there i will direct u. My destination was from Ikoyi to Surulere. He took under the bridge went to a remote place around Ijora to be honest i had no clue where we were. Then we got to a very dark isolated road. There was a bad spot there.

Ahead of us was a truck who was avoiding d bad spot maintained left while a public bus with people in it maintained right. To my greatest dismay he just stopped his vehicle a yard before d bad spot. I beckoned him to carry on right which was manageable.

He ignored me and was looking at his phone. I told him this place is very unsafe please move the car he ignored me. D 2 vehicle ahead of us had left. Shortly after a man emerged from d dark peeping by the back window i was sitting. I pleaded with him to leave d place while i brought his attention to the man looking through the window.

He saw the man but ignored me. I told him severally to move but he did not. D man went to reinforce with another guy. One smashed the window behind from the left and the other from the right where i was sitting. I sustained some cuts. "My ordeal with uber part 2. It was when the hoodlums had succeeded in robbing me off my personal stuff that was when he drove through the bad spot. Meanwhile the bumper and tyres were in perfect condition. He took me to surulere i told him to take me to the police station.

We went to bode thomas police station they now took us to iponri police station. My suspect was the driver because he had enough time to leave the place. The Dpo at iponri police station was very helpful we went to d crime scene but couldnt locate the exact spot.

The driver was detained and the next day wednesday the 28th the matter was charged to magistrate court ebutemeta. We went to court, he was granted bail but needed to meet d bail condition. The matter is adjoined to next month d 24th.

The owner of the vehicle named Bassey came to court. I told Bassey all i needed was moneys worth for my personal stuff stolen. He told me i have to deal with only the driver that uber isnt liable to compensate me for my loss and traumatic experience.

My friend contacted uber and they also spoke to me on the phone. Swipe left to read their response. My frustration is uber is a win win organisation. Only for the money. They aint liable for nothing. I came to lagos to attend 3 event. I came with my expensive jewellery, louis vuitton bag, phone, make up, perfume, shoe etc all stolen. I was lucky that my suitcase was in the boot.

I was going to my elder sisters place to spend the rest of my visit with her. Uber has nothing at stake here so its unwise to patronise uber. No prober security checks is carried out on the drivers, no adequate training etc. My loss should be well over a million but i doubt if i'm going to recover a penny. Uber is all about the profit. It was a free for a all fight scenario on Thursday over controversies, surrounding the purchase of a bus worth N2.5 million by the Student Union of Obafemi Awolowo University, which was to be used as a commercial tr‎ansport shuttle around the university.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, findings showed that claims by the union’s Financial Secretary, Omisakin Kehinde, that the bus was purchased for N2.9 million did not tally with the actual value of N2.5 million written on the receipt.

The union had to change their narration on the purchase upon the discovery, accepting that it paid only N2.5 million for the bus. The President of the union, Oyekan Ibukun, called a congress on Thursday, following the demand of students asking to be addressed on the issues.

He was however ruffled when it was demanded that he step aside from presiding over the congress in view of the allegations against his leadership.

Mr. Ibukun rebuffed the move, resulting in a fight among the students.

The students fought in different locations within the campus, while Mr. Ibukun was beaten up with his clothes torn in shreds.

The wild fight could not be curtailed by the university’s security team, as they watched helplessly the parade of the union president by students who accused him of fraud in the bus purchase.

“Lots of aberration have been committed by the president and I am not even aware of the bus scandal. Iwas not notified before the bus was bought,” the Speaker of the Students Representative Council, Falaye Tope, said, while reacting to the crisis. “I am not responsible for the crisis. It is beyond me, as you can see, I have not intervened in it all.”

The president and the speaker had been at loggerheads before the incident.

Kiran, one of the Matharoo sisters, who was arrested in Nigeria for allegedly blackmailing Otedola, has taken to Instagram to call out a girl spotted in same Dubai villa with Instagram Big Boy Hushpuppi, who has been enmeshed in social media call-outs involving Nigerian celebrities. 

According to her, the girl sleeps around with married men. Here's what she wrote;

Alterplate Boss, Harrysong, who was slammed by fans after used 'stolen baby photos' to celebrate the arrival of his twins, Perez and Tarela, in an interview he granted, has disclosed what really happened and why he used the photos.

According to Harrysong on the interview he granted, he has not yet seen his new kids and the photos he has are the ones their mum sent. Here's what he said and the video below;

Following the dissolution of her marriage after a long marital crisis that got her, her ex-husband Olakunle Churchill and family members slamming each other on the media, which led to the refund of her bride price signalling the dissolution of her marriage, Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh, who celebrated this dissolution has slammed those insulting her over the end of her marriage.

According to her, she’s not ever going to reply ‘negative comments and vibes, as she has had her own fair share of clapbacks’.

We reported earlier today that Olakunle Churchill's family stormed Tonto Dikeh's family house in Rivers State, to demand a refund of the bride price they paid when their son came to ask for the Actress' hand in marriage.

However on Tonto Dikeh's part, her days seem lit as she posted a video on her Instagram page, which many has linked to celebrating the dissolution of her marriage.

Tonto Dikeh's marriage to Olakunle Churchill is over, as her father as Churchill's family went back to Tonto Dikeh's family house to have her bride price refunded. Churchill's uncle, Bishop Dare led a delegation to meet with Tonto Dikeh's father, Chief Sunny Dikeh in Portharcourt to collect the bride price they paid over a year ago when they held their traditional marriage ceremony.
