PoliticsPatience Jonathan's Mother Dies In a Ghastly Motor Accident In PH by emekatimsu(op): 3:22am On Jul 23, 2013
There was anxiety in Port Harcourt on Monday as news of the death of Mrs. Iwari-Oba, the mother of the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, spread in the Rivers State capital. The mother of Mrs. Jonathan was said to have been involved in a ghastly motor accident along Elele Road in Rivers State. It was gathered that the woman, who is from Okrika Local Government Area, was on her way to Bayelsa State when the accident happened. Unconfirmed report indicated that her corpse was taken to Kpaiyama Mortuary by a team of policemen and a member representing Ogu Bolo State Constituency, Mr. Evans Bipi, who is a relative to the deceased. Though, the police and the Federal Road Safety Commission in the state could not confirm the incident, an aide to Bipi said the First Lady’s mother died in a road accident, which occurred at about 4pm. Bipi’s aide, Mr. Fred Itobo, told The PUNCH that the
President’s wife’s mother was involved in the
accident while she was on her way to Bayelsa State. “Yes! She was involved in an accident and she died.
Her body has been taken to a mortuary. Bipi was among those who took her body to the mortuary,” Itobo said. When contacted, the State Director of FRSC, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, declined comment on the matter, saying, “I cannot say anything on this matter now
until I get full details.” Though effort to get reactions from the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, proved futile, she had already told a journalist on the telephone that she had not been briefed on such
crash.

PoliticsRe: Why I Did Not Promote Myself To General As Nigeria's Head Of State- Buhari by emekatimsu(op): 10:00am On Jul 06, 2013
The true reason was because he did nt know he ws going to be over-thrown so soon. If not that he ws also forcefully removed by Babangida he will definately hv upgraded himsef to the rank of a General. He should stop seeking for cheap popularity with his claim of not having promoted himself while in office. That still does'nt erase the fact that he ws
one of the Military dictators who drew Nigeria
backwards with corruption and uncivilization. I refuse to be deceived by his claims
PoliticsWhy I Did Not Promote Myself To General As Nigeria's Head Of State- Buhari by emekatimsu(op): 8:37am On Jul 06, 2013
A former Head of State, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) has given insight into why he remained a Major General rather than promote himself to the rank of full General while he reigned as Nigeria’s Head of State between December 31, 1983 and August 27, 1985. Speaking in Zaria on Friday at the presentation of the books, “Nigerian Military in Politics, 1966-2011″ and “Politics of Transition to Civil Rule In Nigeria”, Mr. Buhari said rather than promote himself after getting to power, he was more concerned with how to rebuild Nigeria and enthrone a regime of justice , accountability and transparency. He said he also believed the fact that his colleagues
in the military asked him to lead the country did not make him the overall general of the armed forces. “It was the conviction of our regime that, being the Head of State and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, it does not mean that you are the overall General,” Mr. Buhari, who spoke on military
incursion in Nigerian politics, said. “My ultimate goal as at then was to ensure the integrity, justice, equity, accountability and transparency in the system. That was why I did away with unnecessarily promoting myself to General.” Apart from Major General Johnson Thomas Aguiyi- Ironsi, who ruled Nigeria between January 16,1966 and July 19, 1966 (when he was killed in a bloody military coup), all other military predecessors and successors of Mr. Buhari were full Generals. No matter their ranks, they were quick in promoting themselves to General on assumption of
office as heads of state. From Yakubu Gowon (August 1, 1966- July 29,1975) who became head of state while he was lieutenant colonel, to Murtala Muhammed (July 29,1975 – February 13, 1976), Olusegun Obasanjo
(February 13, 1976-October 1, 1979) Ibrahim
Babangida (August 27, 1985-August 27, 1993), Sani Abacha (November 17, 1993-June 8, 1998) and Abdulsalami Abubakar (June 8, 1998- May 29, 1999), whose ranks ranged between Brigadier and Major General before getting to power, all Nigeria’s military leaders left or were forced out as Generals. Mr. Buhari was asked to take over as head of state
in 1983 after officers, led by Ibrahim Babangida, toppled the administration of the democratically elected President Shehu Shagari. For the about two years he was in power, he broke tradition by refusing to promote himself to the rank of General. It was as Major General that his regime was sacked by dissident officers, again led by Mr. Babangida, in 1985. Mr. Buhari was then detained in Benin till 1988. But Less than two years after getting to office, Mr. Babangida promoted himself to full general. That tradition of self-promotion continued through Mr. Abdulsalami, who retired as General in 1999, after handing over power to Mr. Obasanjo, who had a second coming as civilian president. Back to the books presentation, Mr. Buhari, who unsuccessfully contested for the office of president in 2003, 2007 and 2011, said past military regimes
were dogged by corruption and abuse of office. He said the military had no place in politics but that past interventions were due to the failure of politicians to respect the rule of law and avoid “corruption and lack of accountability”. The chairman of the occasion and former Secretary- General of the defunct Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Aliyu Umar, described the books as important resource materials in the study of Nigerian politics. “The two books are reflection of the present
Nigerian political scenario,” he said. The books were published by Nuhu Ramalan, the
head of political science department, Federal
College Education, Zaria.

PoliticsFacebook shut's off all Goodluck Jonathan Impostors by emekatimsu(op):
Impostors laying claim to the identity of President Goodluck Jonathan on Facebook have suffered a set-back, no thanks to Facebook which recently verified the profile of the President on the social network. If you are finding it difficult to distinguish the authentic Facebook account of the President from the over 98 profiles bearing the President's name and photographs, watch out for the social service's recently launched verified page's check mark.

Jonathan now joins public figures such as United States President Barack Obama, and American singer, Lady Gaga among others enjoying the feature. Facebook says the verified pages belong to a small group of prominent figures such as celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses.

The Facebook's authenticity check mark helps to shield celebrities around the world from fraudsters prowling around the social network, using their identities. Once the name of a celebrity or public figure whose profile has been verified is keyed into the search box, a blue check mark would pop up along with the name in the search results and in the timeline. But surprisingly, the Facebook page of British Prime Minister, David Cameron, with over 191,223 followers has yet to be verified. His Twitter handle, @David _Cameron has since been verified by the microbloging service. Also, the Facebook page of Ghanaian President, John Mahama, who has over 191,223 followers has yet to get a Facebook verification, four weeks after the social service announced the new feature. Facebook clearly states that it doesn't provide users with the opportunity to request to get pages verified but that users can report people who impersonate them on the social service. "Keep in mind that not all authentic profiles and pages are verified and that you can't request to have your profile or page verified. You can report fake accounts that are impersonating you, your business or your brand," it states on its Help Centre. If you come across an account that pretends to be you, use your photographs, as avater, you can simply report by going to the users timeline and click on the Report/Block button. Users will have to follow the on-screen direction to file the report. Facebook users suffering in the hands of impostors can curtail the activities of fraudsters by including a link to the page on their official website such that the plug-ins of the social account they operate are used on such websites. With this, people searching for them on the social media can follow directly from the homepage of the website. Just as Facebook now uses the Twitter-style verification, Pinterest, a pinboard-style photo- sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections also has a verification feature. The feature lets users verify that they own the website on their Pinterest profile. To verify your website, visit your Settings page and click on the 'Verify Website' button.

Currently, Pinterest says it supports top-level domains. When a website being used on a Pintesrest profile is verified, people will see a red checkmark next to their domain in search results. They will also see the full website URL and checkmark on users' profile. Besides, Facebook has also introduced hashtags to improve engagement of users of its service. Just like it operates on Twitter, Hashtags will help users easily discover what others are saying about a specific topic and participate in public discussions.

Facebook has said that when tweets and other posts using hashtags are shared on Facebook, those hashtags will be viewable through Facebook. Meanwhile, one thing that the use of hashtags may rob Facebook users of some level of privacy which many on the network had hitherto been enjoying. This is because everyone will be able to view user's comments when hashtags are employed, irrespective of the privacy settings, as the hashtags will string them all together for public view.

CareerFG Scraps BPE,NAPEP,NEIC, 217 Other Agencies, Approves merger of EFCC/ICPC by emekatimsu(op): 7:47pm On Jul 01, 2013
FEC scraps BPE, NAPEP, NEIC, 217 other agencies. …Approves merger of EFCC, ICPC The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has agreed to
scrap the Bureau of Public Enterprises and 219
other parastatals and agencies. Also, in spite of the controversy, the government has accepted the recommendation to merge the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). But the government has accepted the recommendation to conduct a “proper investigation into the allegations made by the
National Boundaries Commission against the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) over the funding of two non-existent boundary demarcations. The OSGOF will also be probed for alleged illegal
extension of Nigeria’s maritime boundary from 200 nautical miles to 350 nautical miles at the cost of US$12 million without consulting. These are the highlights of the outcome of a review
of the White Paper on the report of the Presidential Committee on the Rationalization and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions, which was headed by ex-Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Steve Oronsaye. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had spent the last three weeks to review the report and concluded the exercise on June 26. The Federal Government FG had in 2011 inaugurated the Oronsaye panel to restructure and rationalize Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies of the government as part of measures to reduce the rising budget profile. After the submission of the report, a White Paper Committee was set up to look at the recommendations of the Presidential Committee. The FEC, however, finally debated and ratified the recommendations of the White paper Committee. According to a document obtained by our correspondent, some of the agencies to be scrapped are the BPE; National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP); Fiscal Responsibility Commission(FRC); Public Complaints Commission (PCC); Nigerian Export Promotion Council; Public Complaints Commission (PCC); National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC); Federal Highways Department; Utilities Charges
Commission; and National Economic Intelligence Committee among others.

@Gbawe.. As Fani Kayode still insist there are other positions occupied by the christians, I ask, in an exco body, what other position is as significant as the afore- mentioned? Could it be the positions Chief Fani Kayode was referring to are positions for: cleaners, messengers, typist, grass-clearer which are occupied by the
Christians? I once held a position in my school excoo and I know the significant positions and these are the positions which have already been occupied solely by muslims. I will like Chief Fani Kayode to publish the positions

sincerenigerian: OP is an Igbo and a Christian for that matter. Christianity neither tolerates blackmail nor deception. Op is a deceptive Igbo element. What do you expect from an Igbo man like you excepts lies and blackmail? I know some Igbos don't think this way. But most of them who go to church and call themselves "christians" still engage in rituals. There are about twenty Christians in APC leadership position. If an Igbo man could change a name from Sharon to Sharia in broad day light, there is no evil he cannot perpetuate to get what he wants.
@OP, you failed in your attempt to blackmail APC. Your blackmail would have worked 4 years ago. Nigerians are yearning for change regardless from Muslims or Christians.
Mr sincere.don'nt be deceived by what you read in the Nigerian national dalies about the frontliners agitating for change, these are group of selfish politicians who are no longer benefiting from the PDP largese.
