PoliticsJonathan's Bodyguard Blocks Amaechi From Greeting President by emekatimsu(op): 6:58am On Jun 27, 2013
There was mild drama on Wednesday night at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, venue of the Presidential dinner organised by President Goodluck Jonathan, news website, The Eagle Online, is reporting. A presidential bodyguard stopped embattled Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, from getting close
to President Jonathan to pay homage.

Mr. Amaechi, who is the chairman of the Nigeria
Governors’ Forum (NGF), and his loyalists arrived the venue when the event was already in progress. They came in from the Rivers Governor’s lodge where they met earlier for about 15 minutes and then adjourned to honour the President’s invitation. On his entourage were Governors Kayode Fayemi
(Ekiti); Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun); Adams Oshiomole (Edo); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Rabiu Kwankwanso (Kano); Abdulazeez Kyari-(Zamfara); Muritala Nyako (Adamawa) and Magartakada Wamakko (Sokoto). Governor Amaechi, after settling down, got up and made his way towards where President Goodluck Jonathan was seated in company of Presidents Joyce Banda of Malawi and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, apparently to pay homage. However, a presidential bodyguard blocked the governor from meeting the President. The
Governor resisted for a while but had to return to his seat when it was glaring the bodyguard won’t allow him. Also, Governor Amaechi, who was seated in company of the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Godswil Amaechi, was not recognised at the event while Mr. Akpabio was introduced as chairman of the PDP Governors Forum. The paper also reported an altercation between Amaechi and Akpabio. The duo reportedly accused each other of being undemocratic. “You are not democratic”, Mr. Amaechi told Akpabio and the latter insatantly fired back, “You too, you are not democratic”. Few minutes after that, Governors Amaechi, Fayemi and Oshiomole left the venue. On his way out, Governor Amaechi fielded questions from journalists. The following conversation ensued between him and State House correspondents. Is your presence here with other governors an indication that the problem in NGF has been resolved? Amaechi: Was NGF sick? I don’t know about factions. We are holding NGF meeting and we agreed that those of us who were there should honour the President and attend the dinner, we have attended, you saw all of them, some have left
and I am leaving too Did you tell Governor Jang there is meeting now? Amaechi: He was invited. What is my business if he is not there? 16 to 19. Are you not a Nigerian? 16 governors voted for him, 19 governors voted for me. If he does not accept the 19, he is undemocratic. Anybody who supports him, including television houses, are also undemocratic. I have said it in a statement that if at any point in time we cannot uphold what 19 governors said, then we should be afraid of 2015. If the PDP is suspending me for that reason, too bad. We must learn to be democratic. I am not aware that the party has given any reason for suspending me, if that is the reason, too bad. The party is yet to give any reason for my suspension. I am not aware
that the party suspended me for winning an election.

What is the way forward? Amaechi: That is the question to ask Jang and those who are supporting him. Those with me are in majority.

TravelRe: Scrap Plane Spotted At A Fuel-Station In Igando by emekatimsu(m): 2:01pm On Jun 13, 2013
The attention of the Nigerian Airspace Management
Agency (NAMA) has been drawn to a purported
plane crash yesterday at Igando, a suburb in Lagos
State. ‘’ This morning, we were inundated with phone
calls and enquiries over a crash involving a small
aircraft but there is nothing like that ,it is a hoax
because our system did not capture any missing
plane’’,the managing director of the agency, Engr.
Mazi Nnamdi Udoh affirmed in Lagos on Thursday while dispelling the rumour. The American registered aircraft is marked-
N972TF. NAMA boss said in a statement that the aircraft in
question is actually a junk one belonging to Late
Apostle Gabriel Oduyemi of Bethel Ministries and
had long been parked at a NAMA facility up till
Wednesday night when it was eventually removed. The aircraft was actually released to Captain
M.J.Ekehinde who will be using it for educational
purposes in Badagry, Lagos. A cross section of the
wings was removed to ease transportation to its
new location.
I affirm again that NAMA facilities are working at optimal level and this could have assisted in
detecting any missing plane within the nation’s
airspace.
While we appreciate the concern of the public on
sighting the plane at an unusual site, we urge that
people should always contact police and local government officials for proper information before
spreading the news on incident involving any
aircraft. Signed

Jobs/VacanciesNIMC:ICPC Arrests 41 Officials For Forging Certificates by emekatimsu(op): 10:05pm On Jun 06, 2013
ICPC arrests 41 officials with forged certificate at NIMC– The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) said it arrested 41 officials with fake credentials at a promotion exercise conducted by the National Identification Management Commission (NIMC).

This is contained in a statement signed by the ICPC’s Head of Media, Mr Folu Olamiti, and made
available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja. According to the statement, the arrest was
made during the presentation of additional
certificates claimed to have been acquired by
the officials for upgrading of their status. The statement said that the preliminary vetting
carried out by NIMC through the Ministry of
Education indicated that some of the tertiary
institutions contacted to verify their certificates,
confirmed the certificates to be fake. It added that some were altered and some were not graduates of the institutions they claimed. “One of the suspects presented a certificate
which was “doctored” to indicate Second Class
degree rather than the earned Third Class
degree. “Others presented forged certificates whereas they still had pending carry-overs. “Preliminary investigations by ICPC indicated
that some of the certificates emanated from
some of the illegal degree awarding mills and
outreach centres recently sealed by ICPC,’’ the
statement said.

It said that the commission was further probing the complicity of those involved in the
graduation of one of the suspects with a
degree in Engineering from an approved
university who could not express himself in
writing. ICPC advised tertiary institutions yet to respond to the earlier inquiries sent to them by the Federal Ministry of Education to do so
immediately. The statement quoted ICPC Chairman, Mr Ekpo Nta as commending NIMC Management for its zero tolerance for corruption in its workforce given the sensitive national assignment it was charged with. The arrest and interrogation of the NIMC
officials is coming in the wake of ICPC/NUC
crack-down on illegal degree awarding mills
nationwide. (NAN)

BusinessCargo cost: Importers Abandon Lagos Seaports For Seme- Border by emekatimsu(op): 6:16am On Jun 06, 2013
FREIGHT forwardersand importers operating in the Lagos ports area have abandoned the seaports to patronize the Seme border post following the high cost of cargo clearnce and extortion from Government agencies. Formers Chairman of the Council for the Regulation Freight Forwarders in Nigeria (CRFFN) Honourable Tony Iju Nwabunike said that the fraustration agents are going through at the seaports have made them to patronize the border post in Seme. He stated besides importers who go to Cotonou to bring their goods to Nigeria, pay less duty in that country, also pay duty at the border post in Seme. “Despite the payment of double duty, they sell
at a cheaper rate than importers who clear
their goods Lagos ports. He added.

Nwabunike explained that officials of the most
of the agencies have ended up acquiring licenses to do the jobs of freight forwarders
adding that they even porch their staff sometimes. The former CRFFN boss further explained that Nigeria is not isolated from the international trading system adding as such international best practices should be applied. He said: “ Nigeria is does not operate in
isolation of the world trading system, Customs
operation can be very frustrating “Have you asled yourself why people import from Cotonou, pay duty in Cotonou, come back
to Seme, pay some duty here and still sell
cheaper in Alaba international market whereas
the importer from Apapa port cannot sell
his goods because of the added cost of clearing” “Every importer wants to go where he will Maximize profit and if going through Cotonou will make them maximise profit so be it.”

PoliticsFresh Troubles For Gov Amaechi by emekatimsu(op): 2:23pm On Jun 02, 2013
MORE TROUBLE FOR GOV. AMAECHI: Amaechi Visits Omehia, Says “Please Withdraw Suit At
Supreme Court”: …Let me think about it-Omehia
Faced with the political battle of his life, embattled governor of River state, Chibuike RotimiAmaechi has paid a surprise visit to his cousin and former governor, Sir Celestine Omehia in a bid to reconcile with him. Pointblanknews.com sources hint that Amaechi had
several months ago made efforts to reconcile wttith
Omehia but the latter refused to cooperate with him.
He is also reported to have sent emissaries to plead
on his behalf, all to no avail.
The source said Amaechi finally met Omehia on Thursday, May 23, 2013, few hours to the day the
Nigerian Governors’ Forum election took place.
The visit which took place at Omehia’s Abuja
residence provided Amaechi the opportunity he had
long craved for to reconcile with his estranged
cousin. Amaechi was said to have gone on the reconciliation
visit with the suspended Leader of the State House of
Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd and among other
dependable allies.
Both Omehia and Amaechi had maintained hard
stance since the former was booted out of office by the October 25, 2007 controversial Supreme Court
ruling in favour of the latter.
While Amaechi rejoiced and celebrated for reclaiming
his mandate, Omehia was left alone in the cold
gnashing his teeth. It was then that it dawned on him
that the hundreds of thousands of supporters, loyalists and admirers who flocked around him did
so because of what they got and hoped to get –
political fair weather friends. As though that was not
enough, the Supreme Court ruling clause, which
stated that he (Omehia) never existed in the eyes of
the law was interpreted by his successor and implemented to the last letter that he was not and
should not be addressed as a former governor.
Sources at the Rivers state Government House told
Pointblanknews.com that Amaechi hated his cousin
to the extent his name (Omehia’s name) is not on the
Govt. House protocol list as a very important personality (VIP) let alone a former governor.
“It is like Amaechi is regretting most of his actions
against Omehia.
Recently, he has made moves to reconcile with him,
but Omehia refused until he was placated by their
some of their Ikwerre kinsmen and a reputable cleric in the state. Omehia’s enlargement photograph that
once adorned the executive council chambers of the
Govt. House was also removed. This is just a tip of the
iceberg of what Celestine Omehia went and has been
going through all these years,” the source said.
No sooner had his cousin, Amaechi assumed office as the State Chief Executive than the state treasury was
declared emptied by his predecessor, Omehia as well
as the contracts duly awarded and paid for while his
five month regime lasted was dubbed reckless
spending of public funds by Amaechi.
To Omehia, it was a nightmare that same Amaechi who was instrumental to his selection as his
substitute sequel to the K-leg saga could go so far to
unseat him and press further to ridicule him even in
his predicament.Since then there has never been any
love lost between the two brothers.
The enmity did not stop there, all their supporters also partook in the fight. The Amaechi/Omehia feud
also spread to all that related to the fighting giants.
Even the Ubima community has not been the same
ever since, with Omehia’s loyalists still feeling
aggrieved and nursing animosity against the jubilant
new dictators that see themselves as Amaechi’s hatchet men.
Having nowhere to appeal what he described as
gross injustice by the Supreme Court, Omehia may
have resorted to prayers, hoping God would provide
him consolation no man, no politician could give him.
He was later to decamp the Peoples Democratic Party who rather than identify with him at this moment of
need chose to follow Amaechi to make up for its
losses.
He was lucky that the All Progressives Grand Alliance
(APGA) was handy to accept and compensate him
with the governorship flag of the party in 2011, four years after.
Even though Sir Celestine Omehia did not win the
election and came second, little did he know that the
April 26, 2011 would provide him the opportunity to
express his anger and disapproval of what he
suffered in the hands of Governor Amaechi and the PDP.
That was when one Cyprian Chukwu went to an
Abuja High Court to secure a ruling that Amaechi
should not stay in office a day longer than May 28,
2011 even against the INEC’s position that the
governorship election in Rivers State would be in October 2011, when Amaechi would have completed
his four year first term.
Amaechi was sworn into office on October 27, 2007.
Based on this contested court ruling, the INEC went
ahead to conduct elections in Rivers State on April 26,
2011 in which Amaechi participated on the platform of the PDP.
To Omehia, this amounted to tenure reduction which
is as a serious offence as term elongation.
Consequently, he (Omehia) went to court to
challenge the alleged illegality which is still in court
and seen by many as a potential threat to Amaechi. Despite all the delay tactics by the incumbent
administration to scuttle the effort, Omehia has
refused to give up, hoping he will get justice even if it
means cancelling the April 26, 2011 election which
both Amaechi and Omehia are praying for in the
Appeal Court. Amaechi’s fear in this regard is understandable. Not
just losing the case to Omehia but it’s most unlikely
that he will be renominated as the PDP candidate in
view of his present travails.
His political structure in the state has been
demolished with the sacking of his hatchet man, Chief G. U. Ake and his lieutenants, the 27 members
of the State House of Assembly that pretend to be on
his side are also suspended from the party.
To the majority of the PDP governors across the
country, PDP leaders and the Presidency, Amaechi is a
persona-non-grata. The Nigerian Governors Forum is more or less
destroyed with two factions claiming victory in the
last election.
Amaechi’s supporters are mainly of the opposition
parties who do not have a say in PDP and therefore
not in position to help him out. To add salt to injury, the PDP National Working
Committee (NWC), Monday, May 27, 2013, Amaechi’s
birthday, wielded the big stick, suspending him from
the party for anti-party activities.
This is the second time Amaechi is being suspended
from PDP. The first time was in 2007 and was reinstated when he became governor.
As hopeless as the situation seems, Amaechi’s scanty
supporters in the state still believe their principal will
weather through the storm unscathed. But he who
wears the shoes knows where it pinches.
This explains why meeting and reconciling with his hurt cousin, Omehia, even if it means kneeling down
for him is now a necessity.
Who knows what else his detractors may be coming
up with? More so, as dumping the PDP and joining
another party may not help matters.
The new electoral laws, pointblanknews.com learnt, does not allow that except one wishes to forfeit his
position which he (Amaechi) may not contemplate.
Doing so may be a direct passport to the nation’s
Siberia – the EFCC.
Though details of the reconciliation meeting between
the duo is still scanty as at press time, it’s not likely that the reconciliation that could not be contracted in
the House of God as once brokered by Archbishop
Ignatius Kattey will easily scale through via close
doors.
Meanwhile, a powerful lawmaker (name withheld)
who was also in the delegation to see Sir Celestine Omehia told Pointblanknews.com that Amaechi
almost knelt down in tears to beg Omehia to forgive
him.
“I know I have offended you. I am ready to
compensate you. We can work together. Please
accept to withdraw the case from the Court. If you fail to withdraw and I am sacked by the Supreme Court
both of us will be the losers. Somebody will benefit”,
Amaechi lamented.
According to same source, Amaechi was with Omehia
on Thursday May 23, 2013 till about 2am on Friday,
May 24, 2013 and repeated same day at 8am. Omehia was said to have bluntly refused to accept
the offer and plea to withdraw the case from the
Supreme Court but told Amaechi to give him time to
think about it. 13 minutes ago Like ·
