NYSC member commits suicide over girlfriend

The body of a 26-year-old National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, member, identified as Ernest, was, Wednesday, recovered from his one room apartment after he reportedly took a poisonous substance.
Reports indicated that the young man, who was in love with a fellow NYSC member, Chioma Okewuru, went berserk when the girl came back from her village over the weekend with a ring from a man she had promised to marry.
Ernest, who is from Edo State and a graduate of the University of Benin, was posted to Cross River State in October, where he met and fell in love with Chioma, and both were serving in Redemption Secondary School, Ofombogha 1 in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State.
Mr. Noah Ntuen, Acting Divisional Police Officer for Obubra told Vanguard on phone: “The girl had told the guy that she would not marry him, but that they could be friends. So when she came back from home last weekend and showed him the ring her husband-to-be gave her, the young man became furious.
“On Wednesday, the situation became worse and at about 7pm, he locked himself in the room and took some poisonous substances.”
A source in the school told Vanguard: “They met at the NYSC Orientation Camp at Abrekpe-Ebokpo and as luck would have it, they were both posted to the same school where they had a relationship going.
“He had the hope the whole thing would end in marriage, but Chioma already had another person she wants to marry.”
Ntuen said the body had been deposited in the mortuary of Obubra General Hospital, while Chioma is with the police, where investigations on the circumstances surrounding the tragic death are in progress.

Family7 Ways To Prevent Money Fight With Your Spouse by emekaxy(op): 7:55pm On Feb 25, 2015
7 Ways to Prevent Money Fights with Your Spouse

Believe it or not, a marriage without money arguments is actually possible. Sure, if you and your partner argue about money every single day, you may think that it’s impossible. The thing is, it’s not difficult to manage money with your spouse, you just need to know a few important rules. Check out the list of 7 ways to prevent money fights with your spouse.

1. Don’t hide the debt
Every person faces financial obstacles from time to time. Big credit card debts can create serious issues in your relationship. Put aside your shame and share this problem with your spouse. Nowadays it’s easy to get into a credit trap. It often turns out that families are denied home loan on account of unextinguished debts. Do your best to solve these problems sooner rather than later. Honesty is the best policy.

2. Spending plan
Money needs a good care. If you want to avoid money fights, both of you should create a spending plan. It will outline all possible expenses. If you are fond of surprises and hate predictable things, then it is not your pair of shoes.

3. Don’t hide your purchases
For that matter, it is advisable to keep your partner well-informed of any purchase you want to do, because your relationship is based on trust. Prefer to refuse buying the thing than to hide it from your spouse and feel yourself guilty if caught. If you love each other, try to be honest.

4. Plan major purchases together
Don’t forget to agree major purchases with your spouse. It doesn’t matter, whether it’s a new computer or a flatscreen television, you need to consult each other before any big purchase. Sure, everything depends on your budget and incomes and buying a computer might not be a major purchase so you might not discuss it together. Consulting with your partner before spending a ton of money can help prevent money fights.

5. Have some personal money
With your own money, you don’t have to accord small and insignificant purchases with your spouse. Each partner should have some funds to spend on personal items. Sometimes it is good to indulge yourself in something special or delicious. This way, you will reduce the frequency of quarrels about finances in your family.

6. Improve your credit score
It’s highly important to improve your credit score because a bad credit score is never fun. Sometimes financing can be really challenging and you are often unable to rent a car or a house. Plus, you are to pay a higher interest rate, if you head over ears in debt. This can add to your monthly expenses and cause numerous fights with your spouse. You should also cancel all unused credit cards.

7. Be respectful
Does your partner make poor financial choices? Don’t criticize them in any circumstances. No matter, who is more successful at managing money, because every person can make money mistakes in the relationship. You can only intensify the problem if you talk down to them. Such behavior will disrupt trust in your family. Try to respect your spouse’s choice and actions.

Marriage requires spouses to stay reasonable and reserved when it comes to earning and managing money. Try to be on the same wavelength with your partner. Follow these tips and you might forget about money fights. Do you have any other tips on how to prevent money fights with a spouse? Please share your tips with us in the comments section.

Jonathan’s visit: Beware of Greek gift, S-West APC tells Yoruba monarchs

By Ola Ajayi
IBADAN—FOLLOWING President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit by to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and other monarchs in the South West to garner support for his re-election in the March 28 presidential election, the opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC, has advised the rulers to be be conscious of the implications of “Greek gift.”
The South-West APC, in a statement by its Director of Publicity, Mr. Ayo Afolabi, advised the monarchs who he described as the bastion of democratic justice and good governance, should vote true to their cultural identity that loathes tyranny, corruption and nepotism.
Fighting hard to realise his second term ambition, President Jonathan had visited the South-West monarchs in quick succession.
The visits, according to the APC has no redemptive electoral value in South-West because “it is devoid of strategic assessment.”
The party asked how many of such desperate and impromptu meetings were needed before Yoruba people voted for him in 2011? “How much did President Jonathan spend to get Yoruba votes in 2011 and why should he think money will save him now?
Except the Yoruba, the zonal APC maintained that all other regions extracted several promises from President Jonathan in the race to 2011 elections.
He noted further that the zone voted based on their firm convictions and commitment to justice and good governance.

Keshi’s contract ready – Pinnick
on february 24, 2015 at 1:25 am in sports

BY JUDE OPARA, ABUJA
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick has revealed that the much awaited contract of Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi has been finalized and ready to be sent to him before the end of the week.

Keshi and Amaju
Pinnick who spoke to journalists yesterday in Abuja said the federation was eager to conclude the contractual agreement so as to enable the coach resume work if he agrees with what is contained in the document.
According to him, contrary to insinuations in certain quarters that the NFF was deliberately delaying the process, the seeming delay was because the federation was avoiding litigation.
“We have done everything concerning Keshi’s contract, the only reason it stayed this long is because we don’t want litigation, we have to look at everything that will protect him and also protect the federation. What we want is the best for the country and that is just what we have done. After looking at the contract and agrees to sign it then we are ready to roll”.
On the rumour that the former Super Eagles captain may be heading to Burkina Faso to coach their national team, Pinnick said “Keshi is a man that has his choice, if the Burkinabes are offering him a better deal than what we are offering, then it is unfortunate that we will allow him to go, we cannot hold him if he wants to go”.
The NFF boss also used the occasion to reveal that the out-of-contract coach has been paid all his outstanding allowances.
Meanwhile the board of the NFF will next week hold its meeting to deliberate on a number of issues.
Pinnick who confirmed the meeting said it was called to deliberate on a number of developments in Nigerian football including the issue of Keshi’s contract as well as the outing of other national teams in international championships.

FirstBank seizes Seawolf’s rigs over N25bn debt
on february 24, 2015 at 1:37 am in news
Facebook Share Twitter Share
By Clara Nwachukwu & Sebastine Obasi
LAGOS— Sequel to our exclusive story earlier this month about abandoned oil rigs at the outer Marina in Lagos, Vanguard learnt that the rigs may have been seized by FirstBank of Nigeria Plc for alleged debts of about N25 billion owed by Seawolf Oil Services Limited, owners of the rigs.
As a result, the two rigs – Onome and Oritsetimeyin, may not have been abandoned after all, but kept under watch by FirstBank.
This is happening as more than 450 workers of the company demand payment of N3 billion allegedly owed them since August, 2013.
The DPR claim
The unfolding scenario is contrary to the claim by the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, the industry regulator, that the two rigs were undergoing repairs.
Vanguard’s Sweetcrude in its February edition had reported the unusual presence of the two rigs at the Marina, but the DPR had dismissed it as not ‘being out of place.’
Even now, the industry regulator has not the faintest idea why the rigs are at the Marina, because when contacted, a top official of the agency, who preferred anonymity insisted that the rigs were not abandoned.
“What we are saying is that as long as the rigs have no issue, they are not abandoned,” he argued.
But curiosity about the presence of the rigs at the Marina was borne out of the fact that rigs are usually found in oil producing areas.
But on further investigation, Vanguard discovered that the two rigs were seized because of mismanagement of funds by Seawolf.
Rigs were working for Total, Addax
It was learnt that while the rig named Oritsetimeyin was working for Total E&P Nigeria, Onome was working for Addax Petroleum Development Company, with each generating $130,000 daily.
Things started to fall apart when the directors of Seawolf were alleged to have been diverting the company’s funds for personal use. First was the $11 million given by Total meant to train the staff and buy equipment for the rig, which could not be accounted for, which led to cancellation of the contract. Also, the company refused to service the N25 billion loan it took from FirstBank.
These led to the gradual grinding of operations of the once flourishing oil servicing company wholly owned by Nigerians.
When the company could no longer function, it terminated the employment of its more than 450 workers in August 2013, without paying their entitlements.
AMCON takes over
Consequently, the Asset Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON, was compelled to take over Seawolf and the two rigs involved. However, the workers are asking for their salary arrears, terminal benefits and other entitlements as enshrined in the Collective Bargaining agreement, CBA, they signed with Seawolf.
Some of the workers’ claims include: non-payment of outstanding salaries till date; end of contract bonus; non-payment of overtime; public holiday and weekend bonuses; non-provision of medical services which led to the alleged death of one Patrick Akpan.
Others are an unremitted pension deduction not remitted; non-payment of leave allowances and leave not spent; and non-payment of 3.5 percent yearly increment.
AMCON fails to honour agreements
In pursuit of their entitlements, the workers approached the Ministry of Petroleum Resources for intervention and to facilitate their payment.
In one of the meetings said to have held on November 10, 2014, at the NNPC towers in Abuja, it was resolved that Seawolf receiver manager (AMCON) should verify claims of the workers and effect payment.
Attendants at the meeting included officials of the Ministries of Petroleum Resources, Labour and Productivity, AMCON, and joint representatives of junior and senior workers unions— NUPENG and PENGASSAN national branches.
However, Vanguard learnt that this was not effected in the letter. In another meeting held on January 26, 2015, at the conference room of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, it was resolved that under three weeks, AMCON should verify workers’ claims, make payment and report back to the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. The resolution was also ignored.
Thereafter, the workers have become agitated and are set to mobilise to compel AMCON to pay them as agreed by the parties involved in the negotiations.
Contacted, a source in FirstBank, who chose to remain anonymous, said although the bank gave such a loan to Seawolf, due process was followed.
He said: “Loan to Seawolf is long standing. Due process was followed. Two years ago, it was reported in the annual general meeting of the bank. Right now, it is no longer FirstBank’s loan. It is an AMCON issue. AMCON has taken over and every other enquiry about it should be forwarded to AMCON. It is now an AMCON business.”
AMCON offers no defence
When Vanguard sought the reaction from the spokesman of AMCON, Mr. Kayode Lambo, he said he was busy and offered to call back in about 10 minutes time.
When Vanguard called back later after waiting for his call for more than 30 minutes, he did not take his call and neither did he respond to a text message sent to him in that regard.

PoliticsRe: House Of Reps Move To Ban Hiace Buses Over Bayelsa Auto Crash by emekaxy: 3:03pm On Feb 21, 2015
In my own opinion, banning this bus is not the problem, rather they should a speed limit for commercial vehicle and ensure each commercial bus is fitted with a speed limit switch that ensure commercial vehicle don't speed above it eg (90Km/hr) and it should be among the condition one must meet to use a vehicle for commercial purposes Police, VIO and road safety will also verify it at checking point.
That's my opinion

menesheh:
This is overly irrational and petty

The said house forgot so easily that the said brand of commuter bus is predominantly use in Nigeria in commuting its citizens to and fro therefore is more likely to be the model to involve in an eccident

The said law makers forgot so easily like my mentor living in London do say if he visit Nigeria "you don't speed with Belgium and obsolete autos" whenever he sees old vehicle speeding embarassed ; that 80% percent of those hiace buses are pretty much old, a law is needed to pull them off our road Instead of banning them

Prominency playing a role why a whole house will start now to investigate cum ban such a menace

PoliticsMark’s Security Details Tear-gassed Tambuwal, Others – DPO by emekaxy(op): 7:01am On Dec 17, 2014
There was a mild drama at the Senate probe of the November 20 National Assembly invasion by the police when the Divisional Police Officer attached to the federal parliament, Mr. James Ndachaba, said the police officers from the FCT command, were not responsible for the tear gas canister thrown at the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal.

Ndachaba, who stated this while testifying before the Senator Ahmed Makarfi’s ad-hoc committee of the Senate probing the unfortunate development, however, indicted security details attached to Senate President, David Mark, for being responsible for the tear gas canister thrown at the Speaker and his colleagues on November 20.

Curiously, heads of other security and paramilitary agencies attached to the National Assembly, however, disagreed with the position of Ndachaba as they stated that they were not aware of any Mark’s security detail throwing tear gas at Tambuwal.

But the DPO argued that he actually saw Mark’s security detail, whose name he did not mention, through a video recording, perpetrating the act.

The following conversation ensued between the committee chairman and Ndachaba.

Makarfi: You wrote in your written submission that one of the security details of Senate President, David Mark, fired the tear gas. Are you saying that it is not the policemen under your command that fired the tear gas?

Ndachaba: With due respect sir, what I viewed on the screen showed that the police under my command dressed differently from those attached to the Senate President……

Makarfi (cuts in): I want you to be specific are you telling this committee that it is the security personnel of the Senate President that fired the tear gas?

Ndachaba: What I am saying is that the tear-gassing took place when the Senate President attempted to enter the chamber of the House of Representatives and there was a commotion which led to the injury of his aide-de-camp (ADC).

Makarfi (cuts in again): Are you saying that the tear gas was only fired at the entrance of the House of Representatives chambers? Are you saying tear gas was not fired anywhere within the premises of the National Assembly before then?

Ndachaba: I asserted in my report with you sir where I wrote that the tear gas might have exploded when attempt was made to disarm a police officer at the entrance of the main gate.

Makarfi: You are under oath. Here you have put in writing that the tear gas might have been exploded by one of the security details of the Senate President.

Ndachaba: Very well sir, I was not physically there but I saw it on the video clips which was aired by a television station. My submission was based on information and the video clips that I saw. I saw it on the screen.

Makarfi: This is a grievous allegation which you have submitted in writing. I want you to submit a copy of the video clip otherwise we will describe your allegation as hearsay.

It will be recalled that Tambuwal and some federal lawmakers were locked out of the complex on that day after a futile attempt to stop Tambuwal, by firing tear gas canisters at him and his colleagues.

The police had said that it acted on security reports that the National Assembly would be invaded by thugs on the day when lawmakers were to either ratify or reject President Goodluck Jonathan’s extension of emergency rule in the North-East states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

The Senate leadership, after an extensive debate on the issue on the floor, set up a committee led by Makarfi, the chairman of its Finance Committee, to probe the circumstances that led to the invasion and report back in two weeks.

However, more than a week behind schedule, Makarfi commenced investigation into the police invasion on Monday.

PoliticsAmaechi: No More Discrimination Btw Indigene & Non Indigene Tuition Fee In RSUST by emekaxy(op): 3:43pm On Nov 27, 2014
‎RIVERS State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has scrapped the discriminatory tuition payment structure against non-indigenes in the state-owned Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST).‎
The governor, who made the payment reversal when he visited the institution, directed that henceforth, students of the university would pay the same amount for tuition whether they are indigenes of Rivers State or not.
He said: “Anybody in Rivers State University of Science and Technology is an indigene. All of us are Nigerians, so there should be no any form of discrimination in fees payment.”
The governor, therefore, directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. George Feyii, to prepare a letter to the state university to effect the reversal immediately, adding: “The reason why I made that statement and I am going to back it up with a letter is that we are all Nigerians. So, from today, no more discrimination in school fees.”

Amaechi, who was in the school to sensitise students for the Permanent Voters Cards’ (PVCs) collection and fresh voters registration exercise, enjoined the school authority to allow students register for their courses and pay later for those whose fees are not readily available at the time of registration in order not to deprive them of studying with their classmates.
He said: “My personal view is that because of the current economic situation, any student who has money to pay (for school fees), let him pay. The ones that don’t have money yet, let them register, and during examinations, you collect your money. The reason is that 60 to 70 per cent of the students are from very poor backgrounds.”
He also called on the school management to grant freedom to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to exercise their democratic rights in the university.
“Allow ASUU, let the lecturers form their union. I will direct the Commissioner for Education to write to the university to allow the lecturers congregate and form their union. The law allows them to do so. That is democracy”, Amaechi noted.
The governor, who also used the opportunity to appeal to the students to be part of INEC’s forthcoming Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) collection and fresh voters registration exercise to enable them exercise their civic right in next year’s elections, said: “I am aware that from Friday, we would start collecting what they call the permanent voter’s cards. I am aware that after the collection of permanent voter’s cards, they would start fresh registration of voters. That’s part of what brought me (to your university).”
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Barene Fakae, expressed delight about the reversal and described the governor as one of the country’s foremost ICT promoters.

PoliticsPDP South South Screening Committee Disqualifies 13 Aspirants by emekaxy(op): 3:35pm On Nov 27, 2014
About 13 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants in Rivers State have been disqualified by the party’s South-South screening committee.‎
The committee carried out the exercise for three days at its zonal headquarters along Circular Road in Port Harcourt.
Those said to have been disqualified were Bekinbo Dagogo-Jack, Nimi Walson Jack, Tonye Princewill, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Prof. Dom Baridom and Major Lasncelot Ayanya.
Others were Gabriel Pidomsom, Dennis Ojuka, Tamunosisi Gogo-jaja, Sampson Ngerebara and Mrs. Abietedogho Bob-Hart, among others.
It was gathered that the governorship aspirants were disqualified on the allegation that they are not members of the PDP in state.
‎‎
All the disqualified aspirants, who attended the three-day screening, are largely from the Kalabari and Ogoni axis of the state.‎
Those cleared by the screening committee were Pawariso Samuel Horsfall, Captain Nwankwo Sunday, Nyesom Wike, Bernard Mikko, Senator Lee Meaba and Ibinabo Michael-West. Horsfall, Sunday and Mikko were members of the group of 16 aspirants who urged the party to adopt the principle of zoning as enshrined in Section 7 3 (c) of the PDP constitution.
It was learnt that the disqualified aspirants have expressed shock over the development and have submitted petitions to the national headquarters of the party.
Reacting to the disqualification of the 13 aspirants, the spokesman for Rivers Mainstream Coalition, Prof. Israel Owate, condemned the disqualification of the aspirants, insisting that it was strange that the screening committee could describe such prominent members of the PDP as not being recognised by the party.‎
Prof. Owate expressed dismay that the party could turn around to disqualify such leading members after the party had cleared them to purchase the expression of intent forms and nominations worth millions of naira.
Princewill, on his own, described his disqualification as a “sheer madness.”
He said: “I am not a PDP member after I raised hundreds of millions for the party, donated a multi-million media centre to the national headquarters and participated in all affairs of the party I was invited to? I am not a member but you collected millions for a PDP form. If this decision is true, this is a sad day for our internal democracy.”‎

PoliticsSuit To Unseat Adamu Mua'zu PDP Chairman Reserved by emekaxy(op): 3:13pm On Nov 27, 2014
THE Federal High Court, Abuja Division Wednesday reserved judgment in an action initiated by an aspirant to the House of Representatives in Adamawa State, ‎Aliyu Abuba Gurin, seeking to unseat the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Mu’azu and to stop the party national convention.
Named, as first to fourth defendants in the case are the PDP, Bamanga Tukur, Mu’azu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).‎

When the case came up, counsel to the plaintiff’s, Rotimi Oguneso, (SAN) submitted that the resignation of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as national chairman “did not comply with the provision of Section 47(5) of the constitution of the party” which provides that a 30-day notice be given to the National Executive Committee (NEC) by the resigning chairman.‎

Oguneso also contended that the appointment of Mu’azu as the new chairman did not follow the laid down provisions of the party’s constitution.

The plaintiff further submitted that what gave him locus to institute the suit was his membership of the party.

He prayed the court to set aside the appointment of Mu’azu.

However, the second defendant in the matter (Tukur) filed a counter claim supporting all the claims of the ‎plaintiff.

In his counter claim, Tukur argued that he was forced to resign his post as the national chairman of the party in order for the seven defected governors to come back to the party.

Tukur further stated that the NEC of the party had no power to appoint the national chairman adding that the votes and proceedings of NEC held at Wadata House on January 15 and 20, 2014, which deliberated on his resignation as national chairman and appointment of Mu’azu as chairman were a nullity.

He added that even if he had submitted a letter of resignation on January 15 to the party, the letter did not comply with Section 47(5) of the party’s constitution, which required that a 30-day prior notice should be given.

In his response to the application, counsel to PDP and Mu’azu, Solomon Umoh (SAN) opposed it and ‎prayed the court to dismiss the suit on the ground that the plaintiff lacked the right to institute such suit.

He submitted that the counter claim filed by the second defendant was strange in law and should not be accepted by the court.

He added that the plaintiff in the suit did not indicate any injury he had suffered or would suffer by reason of which the suit was brought.

Umoh also stated that the plaintiff had not pursued or exhaust the domestic or internal remedies available within the constitution of the party prior to the institution of the suit.

He further‎ argued that the subject matter was an internal affair of the party, which the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain.

He thereby prayed the court to dismiss the suit in its entirety.

The fourth respondent in the suit, INEC did not file any application and pledged to maintain neutrality.

After listening to all the parties, the trial judge,§ Justice Evoh Chukwu reserved judgment.

FG adopts .gov.ng unified email platform

By Emmanuel Elebeke
The Federal Government has adopted the .gov.ng unified email platform for the federal civil service of Nigeria.
The adoption of the domain platform, marked the official take off of the official electronic communication platform in the Federal Civil Service of the Federation.
Addressing the Directorate of the Federal Civil Service of the federation, the Minister of Communication Technmology, Dr. Omobola Johnson, said   the switch to gov.ng is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology to drive transparency in governance and improve quality and cost effectiveness  of public service delivery.
The Minister said the adoption became significant considering several unsuccessful attempts by both present and other administrations in the past.
She urged workers of the federal civil service to re-commit themselves towards this common purpose to improve internal productivity and quality service delivery to all citizens.
She added that “though, this may have come late, today’s event marks a major milestone in our pursuit to use the potentials of ICT to advance our economy. ”
She noted that the new platform will improve the speed and efficiency of official communications and provide the means to share, store and gain access to official documents anytime, anywhere and on any computer or mobile device.
“The migration of websites to the .gov.ng platform and the unified email platform   would not only enable the delivery of government business over a more secure and robust technology  platform, it would also enhance national cyber identity on the internet and improves confidence in citizens, businesses and foreigners as they seek Government information and services online,” she added.
She said the platform could be accessed through the www.fedcs.gov.ng, a simple easy to navigate portal to enable the users activate email accounts.
The portal will also eventually serve as the central information portal or Intranet for government, offering authorized and secure access to online services documents and resources.
A standard naming convention such as firstname.surname@fedcs.gov.ng. has been adopted in the creation of email accounts for all civil servants.
Special e-mail accounts have been  created for Ministers who are not part of the civil service workforce but should be associated with their portfolios – but still with the standard naming convention.
Role specific email accounts have also been created, but she said they will be extremely limited to avoid a proliferation of email accounts and unnecessary redundancy. These special accounts may be used for non personal, departmental functions and roles.
Meanwhile, the platform is available on mobile  devices such as BB, Android and Windows phones and tablets.
According to the Minister, about 42,000 email accounts have so far been created for all officers on GL 10 to 17 in the Federal Civil Service, while they expand the infrastructure and the capacity of the platform email accounts to be created for federal civil servants on GL09 and below.
Prior to this adoption, the Ministry of Communication Technology with the support of the Council of ICT Heads hard embarked on an initiative to standardize the look and feel of federal government websites and also migrate all Ministry websites to the .gov.ng domain name.

Jihadists kill 28 Christians on Kenyan bus after asking passengers to prove they're muslims

28 Christians were killed yesterday morning Nov. 22nd after Islamic Shebab extremists ambushed a bus in Kenya as it headed for Nairobi from Mandera, a town close to Somalia.

According to reports, the heavily armed extremists separated the Muslims from the Christians by asking them to recite verses from the Qu'ran. Then they ordered the Muslims to get off the bus and then shot the Christians point blank in the head before escaping back to Somalia.

A Spokesman for Shebab later said the 28 travelers were killed in retaliation for a raid on mosques in  Mombasa, Kenya last week.

Dame Jonathan at Enugu Adoration Ground

Seeks divine intervention over GEJ re-election and insecurity.

THE search for solutions to the myriad of problems affliction the country got the First Lady, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, once again taking divine recourse, as she urged Nigerians Sunday to continue in prayer for God’s intervention on all fronts, especially insecurity.

Mrs. Jonathan, who paid a visit to the Catholic Prayer Adoration Ground at Emene, Enugu State, said she was encouraged by the determination of citizens to solve the security challenges facing the country through divine help.

She spoke as the fiery Enugu cleric and founder of Adoration Ministries, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, called on Ndigbo and all Nigerians to vote back President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential elections.

Accompanied by the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, among others, Mrs. Jonathan urged all Nigerians to work together to make the country a better place, even as she appealed to mothers to bring up their children to know and practice good, against evil.

She noted that peace in the community must come through communal effort, stressing that such should not be left in the hands of government alone, even as she enjoined citizens to know their neighbours and be their brothers’ keepers.

Commending the founder and members of the ministry for their continuous prayers for the peace and progress of the country, she said the government would not take such sacrifice for granted, while urging Nigerians to promote peace and love in their environment.

Fr. Mbaka had earlier told the First Lady that there was no threat to her husband’s return to office as far as Enugu State was concerned, as indigenes see the opposition as working for the wrack of the country.

He insisted that Jonathan should be re-elected, while berating those tasking him to bring back the Chibok girls if he must seek re-election, as Jonathan is not the one keeping them hostage.

On his part, Ekweremadu said he has benefitted immensely from the ministry’s prayers and wished that the President would also benefit to ensure his re-election.

PoliticsNigerian Police Arrest UK Murther Suspect Jeffery Azuka Okafor (pic) by emekaxy(op): 6:27am On Nov 06, 2014
IG lauds officers over arrest of UK murder suspect.

ABUJA—The Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has commended Police detectives for the arrest of a wanted murder suspect in the United Kingdom, Jeffery Azuka Okafor, who fled to Nigeria after the alleged murder of Carl Beatson Asiedu on August 1, 2009 in London.
A statement by Force Public Relations Officer, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu, said Azuka Okafor, 23, was arrested on September 23 in Asaba, Delta State, after a diligent search.
It said: “The IGP particularly praised the high level of professionalism displayed by the Police operatives as well as the effective deployment of the force’s high-tech equipment in tracking the suspect.”
It said despite the fugitive’s frequent change of identity and location, the operatives were still able to keep tab on him without raising any suspicion.
“All the necessary required procedures to enable the handover of the fugitive to the UK authorities have already been concluded,” it added.
He assured the international law enforcement community that Nigeria Police Force would apprehend any fugitive on request and turned such over accordingly.

PoliticsWill Fintiri Return To The House As Speaker Or Member? by emekaxy(op): 7:17am On Oct 09, 2014
Please can someone enlighten me on this.

Nyako was removed

Fintiri was sworn in

Another speaker, deputy speaker, house leader etc emerge.

Later fintiri was removed former deputy govt returned as governor.

If fintiri return to the house, will the present speaker return to his former position of deputy and allow fintiri to preside over him or will he push fintiri back to the floor of the house as a member.

For me if I'm the present speaker I will never allow fintiri to return as speaker so that everyone pushing for illegal impeachment will learn one or two things.
And this marks the downfall of the political career of a man who wake as a Govt and sleep as a floor member of the house.

My take anyway

I sense selfishness here, the PDP in Anambra is suspecting that them and APGA are dragging political appointment from GEJ based on the support APGA pulls for GEJ so in order to streamline the whole thing and push APGA out of the struggle they want to stop APGA from campaigning for GEJ.

The same PDP complaining now was in support wen AGPA, PPA, LP etc adopted president GEJ as their candidate in the build up of the 2011 election and said they will not field any presidential candidate.

They are no longer thinking for the Anambrarians or GEJ success come twenty 15 rather what they are after is their pocket and that of their cronies.

PoliticsJonathan’s Wife Orders Release Of Suspected Thugs In Rivers by emekaxy(op): 2:18pm On Jan 06, 2014
Rivers State Police
Commissioner, Joseph Mbu,
has been ordered to release
the detained suspected
armed thugs of George
Sekibo, a Senator; and Evans
Bipi, a member of the Rivers
State House of Assembly,
Daily Independent has
authoritatively gathered.
The release order, according
to findings, is coming from
President Goodluck
Jonathan’s wife, Patience.
Sekibo and Bipi are both
close political allies of the
First Lady.
The six suspected thugs
were arrested by the Joint
Military Task Force (JTF) in
Ogu (hometown of the two
politicians) in Rivers State.
The JTF later handed them
over to the police for
prosecution
But Mrs Jonathan was said to
have ordered Mbu to release
the suspects and return to
them the arms and
ammunition found in their
possession.
At press time last night, it
was not clear whether Mbu
had carried out the order or
not, but Bipi was said to be
to ensure the release of the
suspects.
Meanwhile, a crisis of
confidence seems to be
brewing between the JTF/
Army and the police in Rivers
State on how the story of the
arrest of the armed thugs
leaked to the media.
An online newspaper,
‘Saharareporters’, broke the
story.
Mbu was said to have
complained loudly that the
story must have been leaked
to the media by the Army/
JTF.
It was further gathered that
Mbu equally lamented that
the other security agencies,
namely Army, Navy, Air
Force and SSS, in the state
are not helping him and the
police in the fight against
Rivers State Governor,
Rotimi Amaechi.
According to a credible
source, who does not want
to be named, Mbu allegedly
cited the arrest and the
subsequent leakage of it to
the media as an example,
adding that if it was the
Rivers State Police Command
that made the arrest, the
media won’t have heard
about it.
However, a source within the
JTF/Army dismissed Mbu’s
claims and described them
as “ridiculous and
preposterous”.
The source maintained that
the Army do not get involved
in politics, and certainly do
not take sides in political
fights.
According to the source, who
also spoke to the on line
medium on conditions of
anonymity, “Mbu must be a
joker, if he expects the Army
to do otherwise.”
The source further stated
that Mbu should look inside
the police on how the story
got to the media, as it was
after the Army handed over
the suspects to the police for
prosecution that the story
went public.
It would be recalled that on
January 3, members of the
Joint Military Task Force (JTF)
arrested six youths, who the
military soon found out to be
armed thugs, around Ekporo
road on their way to Ogu in
the Ogu Bolo Local
Government area of Rivers
State.
They were in an off white
Land Rover jeep with
registration number JJ441BZ.
The thugs were arrested
based on their suspicious
movement.
Those arrested gave their
names as Sunday Elisha,
Uche Jenikachi, Ibinabo
Lawson, Okechukwu Okoro,
Jerry Tonyeand Daniel Ibito-
Anga (leader of the thugs).
In fact, Ibito-Anga parades
himself in Ogu Bolo as
Security Adviser/PA to both
Senator George Sekibo (who
represents Rivers East) and
Bipi, who had earlier
paraded himself as Speaker
of the Rivers State House of
Assembly until he was
stopped by an order of the
State High Court.
Both Sekibo and Bibi are
from Ogu and have
confessed publicly to be
close allies of Mrs. Jonathan,
who hails from nearby
Okrika.
They all speak the same
native Okrika dialect.
Bipi was also a domestic
aide of Mrs Jonathan before
he was elected into the
Rivers State House of
Assembly in 2011.
Sekibo, who nurses a
governorship ambition, is
hoping to ride into Rivers
State Government House on
the back of the First Lady.
All of them are also known
publicly to be fighting
Amaechi.
Recovered from the suspects
are seven AK47 assorted
riffles, 164 rounds of 7.62mm
special live ammunition, 10
live magazines and six
locally made cannon
launchers.
The JTF has confirmed the
arrest and the weapons
found on them.
After their arrest, the
suspects were taken by the
JTF team to Bori Camp, the
military base in Port
Harcourt.
The thugs were then handed
over to the police in Rivers
State for prosecution.
Already, there were
allegations that the
commissioner of police,
Mbuh, was brought to head
the state police command by
Mrs Jonathan.
Amaechi had recently raised
an alarm that arms,
ammunition and weapons
were being brought into the
state by politicians opposed
to his administration ahead
of the next general elections.
The Governor had
specifically alleged that the
arms being built up in the
state were to be used to
intimidate and perpetrate
violence against Rivers
people.
