IBADAN— SENATE Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin was, yesterday, arraigned before a Magistrate Court, Ibadan over Thursday’s killing of the former factional leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Oyo State branch, Alhaji Lateef Salako, a.k.a Eleweomo. Three others charged with him on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder are Ramoni Jayeoba, Bankole Olaide Raji and Raimi Ismaila The PDP senator was arrested on Monday and detained by the Oyo State Police Command amid protest by his numerous supporters that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Baba Adisa Bolanta, had conspired with the State Governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao_Akala, who is also an ex_policeman. The police commissioner informed the senator and other founding members of the PDP in the state that he would only write his statement at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, after which he would be allowed to go. Senator Teslim Folarin ushered into a Black Maria by prison officials for his onward detention at the Agodi Prison custody. Senator Teslim Folarin was arraigned at the Iyaganku magistrate court for his suspected involvement in the Killing of Alhaji Lateef Salako aka Elwewomo on Tuesday by the Oyo state command of the Nigerian Police. Photo Dare Fasube After waiting more than 10 hours at the station, the senator and his supporters were on their way when they were called back to make some clarification. The senator remained there with the Fourth Republic Senator, Senator Lekan Balogun, Elder Wole Oyelese, former Minister of Power and Steel, Alhaji Yekini Adeojo; founding member of the PDP in the state, Senator Ayo Adeseun, former Chief of Staff in the administration of Rashidi Ladoja, Chief Sarafadeen Alli; Alhaji Alli Oyedeji (a.k.a. Alli Dodo), and former member, Oyo State Pilgrims Board, Alhaji Abass Oloko. Some local government chairmen who had earlier served in the administration of Governor Alao-Akala waited with some saying that the governor was fighting Ibadan people in entirety and not just Folarin. Senator Folarin and three others were later arraigned in the court under heavy security, yesterday, with hundreds of his supporters trooping into the court premises. Charges against the senator Immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, led 14 other lawyers for the accused persons before Chief Magistrate Fatima Badrudeen. The charges preferred against the senator, Ramoni Jayeoba, Bankole Olaide Raji and Raimi Ismaila, read: “On December 30, 2010 at about 11.30 a.m., at Olunloyo Ogbere, Ibadan in the Ibadan magisterial district (the accused) did conspire with others at large to kill Lateef Salako (a.k.a. Eleweomo)”. Mr. Mathew Ojeh who was the prosecutor further told the court that Senator Folarin with the three others and others at large “on the same date and time at Olunloyo Ogbere, Ibadan did murder Lateef Salako (a.k.a. Eleweomo) by shooting him with gun.” Counsel to the senator, Mr. Akeredolu, however, submitted that the court had no jurisdiction to handle the allegations against the senator being a magistrate court. He pleaded that Folarin be remanded at Agodi Prison “pending the time proper application is filed at the High Court and for us to take proper bail application at the High Court”. Akeredolu then urged the court to adjourn the matter till January 14 2011. The Chief Magistrate agreed with Akeredolu that the court did not have jurisdiction to entertain the case. She then ordered that Folarin and others be remanded at the Agodi Prison till January 14, 2011, as suggested by Akeredolu when the bail application would have been filed and argued at the High Court. Senator Folarin who was taken into a prison Pick Up Van marked PRISON PS 598-AO1, waved to his supporters. Akala’s camp narrates how Salako was murdered Meanwhile the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Ona_Ara Local Government area of Oyo State, Alhaji Taofiki Olayiwola, yesterday, gave a graphic explanation of how supporters of the Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin disrupted the congress of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the council area last Thursday, an action which he said, allegedly resulted in the killing of Alhaji Lateef Salako, a.k.a. Eleweomo. Olayiwola who addressed a news conference in Ibadan said the briefing was necessitated by the need “to correct certain misinformation being maliciously spread by some people on the dastardly murder of Alhaji Lateef Salako (Eleweomo), on Thursday, December 30, 2010.” The council helmsman who was, until recently, Governor Alao_Akala’s Special Assistant on Political Matters, recalled that the deceased was elected as one of the delegates from ward 5, where Senator Folarin hailed from, the previous day. He said the Senate Leader was aware of Eleweomo’s emergence and did not raise any objection or dispute the process of his emergence. Olayiwola said that on the fateful day of Eleweomo’s murder, the Local Government congress as scheduled was held at IDC Primary School , Olunloyo “where Alhaji Salako took part as an elected ward delegate and as a loyal party member, in Ona-Ara Local Government.” Olayiwola briefs newsmen He said the congress went on smoothly and that he was busy addressing delegates and party supporters amid jubilation when “Senator Folarin, who had chosen to stay away for reasons best known to him, stormed the venue of the congress with 25 mobile policemen and about eight buses loaded with people suspected to be political thugs.” He added: “Senator Folarin ordered his aides to release gun shots which caused people to scamper for safety including Alhaji Salako. Senator Folarin’s aides identified and pursued Salako, caught up with him, shot him, stabbed him and waited until he died.” Folarin calls for independent probe panel However, Senator Teslim Folarin had noted earlier that Eleweomo’s men, in several buses had invaded the Congress venue and were disrupting the peaceful conduct of the congress which made him to make five distress calls to the Police Commissioner, Baba Adisa Bolanta and the Director of the State Security Services, SSS, on the need to arrest the situation before degenerating into a state of anarchy. Folarin said the calls were ignored by Bolanta who claimed that what he (Folarin) said was not the true picture of what was going on at Ona-Ara. Before he was remanded at Agodi Prisons Custody, yesterday, Folarin had since urged the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, to set up an independent probe panel to ascertain his culpability or otherwise in the killing of Eleweomo, stressing that, his team was already on his way home when news went round that Eleweomo had been murdered by yet to be identified assailants on the ill-fated day. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/01/eleweomo-sen-folarin-arraigned-for-murder/ |

The Nigerian oil and gas industry is a massive one with so many opportunities.Nevertheless, the not too friendly business climate in Nigeria and our bad international reputation is not helping matters at all. I have seen guys who have made real money in facilitating crude oil deals in Nigeria. At first,I saw it as a waste of time as I could not understand how individuals could facilitate crude oil transactions between the Nigerian government and interested buyers. At that time,I thought crude oil deals were only between the Nigerian government via NNPC and government of other countries like the US and China.I was among those that would make jest of one of my friends who we thought was wasting his time on something that would never be realized but,we were wrong. The guy in question was so wretched that at times,he would beg me to buy him time in cyber cafes or beg to make a minute call with my phone or send a text. All these changed one day he cruised into the cyber cafe where we usually browse with a brand new Toyota Camry and looking totally changed. He had new clothes, shoes, etc. We got curious and asked hoe come and he told us that one of his deals ad clicked. What was his share? $0.25cents/barrels of 2million barrels of BLCO totaling approximately $500,000.00. He dashed us money and bought free time for everyone present that day.He even invited us to his church for thanksgiving.Mehn,I became interested in the business and he was good enough to put me through the basics which most people would not have done. From then on,I started pursuing it vigorously and it consumed the better part of my income plus savings - making calls, internet, going for meetings and all that. At first,I thought it won't take me up to a month to seal a deal but I was wrong but I did not relent then until February, 2010 when I thought my breakthrough had come.Actually, the deal was 2million barrels of BLCO and it pulled through successfully.SPA was signed,ATB given by seller, clearance paid by buyer, vessel moved to Cotonou for Q&Q which was done successfully. To tell you the truth,I had written out a cheque for the purchase of my church land which was a vow I made then and I had started pricing the new house I would buy but something happened. When it was time for payment, the buyer said he cannot pay all the accounts on the SPA (there were about 8 different accounts) because if he did,he would have to explain somethings to IRS and the FBI which he said he didn't want to do.So,he instructed us to come up with two paymasters among us.One paymaster was to receive $0.50cents/bbl which is approximately $1m.My own share from the whole thing was $0.20cents = $400,000.00 The paymaster for our group was a Nigerian based in Ukraine so we all agreed for the money to go into his account while we all signed MOU with him.At the end the payment was made into his account but he started telling us cock and bull stories which I cannot share here because of time.At the end, till today,I am yet to receive my $400,000 which I worked for.His phone number is no longer going through,he doesn't reply his emails and he's no longer online on skype and yahoo messenger as he used to be.I got word that he left Ukraine and is now in Turkey while some said Germany. That's how I lost a life changing $400,000.00 to one untrustworthy he-goat.That's why I always say "a Nigerian will always be a Nigerian, whether he's abroad or not.You can take the person away from Nigeria but you can't take the Nigerianess away from him" So,with this I am more than convinced that it is real.I didn't stop there although it affected me a lot but I did not relent.I have since then kept on pursuing it and I know that one day,it will click again. That's my personal experience. From my own observations,I have come to understand that there are lots of fake people in the industry - both buyers and sellers.Guys that can barely pay telephone and hotel bills not to talk of having the money to purchase big volumes of crude oil as they claim.I remember one that came from Cotonou one time claiming he's a buyer. After meeting him in Maryland,my partner and I ended up paying his hotel bills that night. The truth is this, most of these so-called Nigerian/Cotonou/Togo/Ghana buyers who claim to want to buy 2m barrels are fakes. They are time wasters.that's why I always avoid them because I know at the end of the day,the deal would never pull through because once the chips are down, they would start giving excuses or asking for things that are not just possible. How can someone ask a seller to move his loaded vessel to Cotonou without commitment or proof of funds? It's simply shows they don't know what they are doing because if not, they would know that vessels don't run on waters - that you need millions to bunker a vessel with AGO. For me,I deal directly with recognized sellers/JV Operators who are proven to deliver for example TOTAL,SHELL and MOBIL.If I must deal with other sellers, then I must see and confirm the seller's NNPC allocation. On the other end,I deal with foreign buyers based in US,UK,Germany,Netherlands, etc who have the financial capability to buy crude but it does not mean that there are no fake foreign buyers. But,with due diligence and check ups,you will know those that can perform. With the above said,if I had like about $20,000.00 right now,I would have closed a deal long ago through TOTAL. TOTAL only requires the buyer to charter or precharter a vessel and they will give NOR is 48 hours after which the buyer is expected to give POF before transhipment. My buyer has told me that because of their past experiences in Nigeria, they can no longer charter vessels waiting for a seller to perform. There have been times when they ran into debts after chartering a vessel for 3 months and the sellers could not perform. So,they told me that if I am sure of my TOTAL connection,I should use my money a precharter the vessel on their behalf after which if TOTAL sends NOR,they will POF and take up the product from that point. But,where man fit get that kind of money from? To precharter a 2million barrel vessel from Fleet Managers,Dubai through their registered agents in Nigeria,it's about $12,500 which will last for two weeks.Within the 2 weeks validity of the precharter, the transaction must have been concluded as TOTAL will send NOR to the prechartered vessel within 48 hours.Their price is 10/8 which is very good and if I offer my buyer 10/6 they will take it.This will leave another $2.00/bbl to play around with. Making money in this is very easy provided you have the right connections to the real people. In this business,it's not all about working hard,it's all about working smart. You can work hard with the wrong people for 10 years and get nothing, but with the right people, you only work smart and become rich in not more than two weeks. Always try to get it straight from the beginning.Tighten the seller's end by being sure of his performance and tighten the buyer's end also by being sure of their financial capability to pay for the products. I have seen TOTAL send NOR to a buyer's prechartered vessel but the buyer could not prove funds (POF) and the deal stalled. Then the guys that paid for the precharter lost their money without getting anything back. Enough said,Nigerian crude oil business is real but there are certain things one must know and do to succeed and with due diligence, success is guaranteed. If anyone with good connections and is interested in working with me,you can drop me a line nanichient@gmail.com Thanks. |

What do you expect? In a country where criminals and looters are hailed, why won't paedophiles be hailed and applauded by some hungry and attention-seeking press? |
Dis Guy:Is it only Nigerian journalists that do that? If it wasn't included, you would be the first to ask for where the man is from. Typical Nigerian who prefers to leave substance to pursue shadow. |

Shopping sprees linked to periods Women may be able to blame impulse buys and extravagant shopping on their time of the month, research suggests. In the 10 days before their periods began women were more likely to go on a spending spree, a study found. Psychologists believe shopping could be a way for premenstrual women to deal with the negative emotions created by their hormonal changes. Professor Karen Pine will present her work to a British Psychological Society meeting in Brighton later this week. She asked 443 women aged 18 to 50 about their spending habits. Almost two-thirds of the 153 women studied who were in the later stages of their menstrual cycle - known as the luteal phase - admitted they had bought something on an impulse and more than half said they had overspent by more than £25. A handful of the women said they had overspent by more than £250. And many felt remorse later. Professor Pine, of the University of Hertfordshire, said: "Spending was less controlled, more impulsive and more excessive for women in the luteal phase. "The spending behaviour tends to be a reaction to intense emotions. They are feeling stressed or depressed and are more likely to go shopping to cheer themselves up and using it to regulate their emotions." Hormonal She said much of this could be explained by hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle. And the findings were exaggerated in the women with severe PMT. "We are getting surges and fluctuations in hormones which affect the part of the brain linked to emotions and inhibitory control. So the behaviour we found is not surprising." Another explanation might be that women are buying items to make themselves feel more attractive - coinciding with the time of ovulation when they are most fertile, typically around 14 days before the start of a period. Most of the purchases made by the women were for adornment, including jewellery, make-up and high heels. Professor Pine said: "Other researchers have found there is an ornamental effect around the time of ovulation." Researchers have found women tend to dress to impress during their fertile days. Professor Pine, author of the book Sheconomics, said if women were worried about their spending behaviour they might avoid going shopping in the week before their period was due. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7971578.stm |
This world is turning into another thing. While we're still reeling from the appalling story of a father in Austria that raped his daughter over many years and fathering several children with her, another similar story is being told. Read it: A Colombian man has appeared in court accused of raping his daughter over many years and fathering several children with her. Arcebio Alvarez, dubbed the "monster of Mariquita" by the local media, allegedly abused his daughter, now in her 30s, since she was nine years old. The case has shocked Colombia, and the 59-year-old needed police and army protection for his court appearance. Mr Alvarez denies incest and rape, saying his daughter was adopted. "We agreed to have a romantic relationship because we really loved each other. But she was not my own child," he told the court in the central Tolima province. It is not clear whether his claim is true, or whether it would affect the charges he faces, but the woman says she always saw him as her father. "I always respected him as my father and he is my father," she said. "He never spoke about [incest], about why we were doing it. Sometimes I would ask him and he would say it was God's will." The woman told police how her mother died when she was five years old, leaving her in the care of Mr Alvarez. She says she was raped repeatedly and became pregnant 14 times. Eight of her children, aged between one and 19, survived. The woman and her children are now under state protection. Child welfare campaigners have called for a life sentence if he is convicted, saying there are hundreds of thousands of child sexual abuse cases in Colombia not being prosecuted. The case has also prompted a movement to change Colombian law, says the BBC's Jeremy McDermott in Colombia, to ensure that those found guilty of raping children go to prison for life. See it here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7970414.stm The question is 'what are our fathers turning into?' Can you imagine the man saying boldly "We agreed to have a romantic relationship because we really loved each other. But she was not my own child," For a father to say that means he's insane. Also, the girl in her own way must be an ignoramus going by what she said "He never spoke about [incest], about why we were doing it. Sometimes I would ask him and he would say it was God's will." A father telling her daughter that banging her is the will of God,I mean it's unthinkable. God don suffer. Also,it shows the truth in the saying that "the flesh between the legs of men does not know relations" This is a lesson for those whose fathers use undue advantage they have to abuse them. No doubt this kind of a thing may actually be happening somewhere in this country as I type this. Let us all be careful abeg. |

The Johannesburg High Court is expected to announce a verdict in the trial of three men accused of killing South African reggae singer Lucky Dube. One of the men recently confessed he had taken part in the crime and said all three deserved to be punished. They had originally denied murder. The 2007 killing of Dube, during a carjacking in a Johannesburg suburb, shocked the country. Dube was South Africa's best-selling reggae artist. He recorded 22 albums in Zulu, English and Afrikaans during his 25-year career. On Tuesday, the judge in charge of the case said the court had no evidence that Dube had been specifically targeted. The court heard that the three men did not know the identity of their alleged victim until they read about it in the newspapers the following day. At the start of their trial in February, Julius Xowa, Sfiso Mhlanga and Thabiso Maroping also denied unlawful possession of firearms and attempted hijacking. Death penalty calls Four suspects were initially taken into custody, but one was later released under the instruction of the directorate of public prosecutions. Dube was shot dead in front of his son and daughter in Rosettenville, a suburb south of central Johannesburg. The killing led to renewed domestic calls for the restoration of the death penalty in a bid to stem one of the world's highest murder rates. The BBC's Mpho Lakaje in Johannesburg says South Africa's international image has been tarnished by its alarming crime levels. Nearly 19,000 people were murdered last year, according to official statistics. Millions of visitors are expected for next year's football World Cup. Lucky Dube began his career by singing mbaqanga (traditional Zulu) music and recorded his first album with the Super Soul band in 1982. He later moved into reggae, producing Rastas Never Die, which was banned by the apartheid government. His albums Slave, Prisoner and Together As One won him global recognition. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/7967406.stm |
Pop star Madonna is to travel to Malawi in a bid to adopt a second child, government officials from the African country have told the BBC. The 50-year-old is expected to arrive at the weekend and attend a procedural hearing at the High Court on Monday. She recently told Malawian newspaper Nation that she had been considering another adoption, but wanted the support of the authorities. Madonna's official adoption of David Banda was confirmed last year. 'Brother or sister' She brought the child back to the UK from an orphanage in the country in 2006. An official at the Malawian department of women and child welfare told the BBC's Raphael Tenthani that the pop star had already filed adoption papers and her case could be heard as early as next week. The official later told the Reuters news agency: "We expect her over the weekend or earlier than that, but without a doubt she is coming before the end of this month." Madonna's spokeswoman in New York, Liz Rosenberg, would not comment. Her lawyer in Malawi, Alan Chinula, also declined to comment. However, a US government official speaking under condition of anonymity told Reuters news agency that an adoption bid was under way. Writing in response to e-mailed questions from Nation readers last week, Madonna said: "Many people - especially our Malawian friends - say that David should have a Malawian brother or sister. "It's something I have been considering." Critics accused the Malawian government of sidestepping laws banning foreign adoptions in order to allow the celebrity to take 13-month-old David home with her. After the adoption was legalised, Madonna said the difficulties had arisen because "this adoption essentially was the beginning of the creation of adoption laws in Malawi". She hoped it would make it easier for others to adopt from the country and explained: "I am the template or the role model, so to speak, for future adoptions." The star also has two biological children - Rocco, her son with former husband Guy Ritchie, and Lourdes, whose father is Carlos Leon. Film director Ritchie and Madonna's divorce was finalised in November. Malawi does not as a rule approve adoptions for single or divorced people, but the official at the country's welfare department said that each case was considered on merit. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7966255.stm |
luckymome:Sensible talk dude It all depends on the type of woman you have as a wife.If it's the type that believes that he who blows the pipe dictates the tune, then u're in for real trouble. But, if she's the type that recognises that no matter what you have authority over her as the man, then that will be better.Well, it seems you have an understanding and hardworking wife. So, don't ever think of treating her with scorn or betraying her when the money starts flowing again because that's what most men do (no offense but I have to call a spade by it's name). |
Fhemmmy:You just don't get it.The economy getting better is not the solution. Some people just can't do without begging. It's in their blood. Even if you give them a plum job today, they cannot perform because they are lazy and used to people giving them money. Well sha, I'm not against them because I use them to attract blessings from God so I like giving them whenever I have the opportunity. |
Myself2:Yeah hammer them. Can you believe that a rat was seen running about in Old Trafford during a Premiership match two seasons ago and the camera showed it life and everybody laughed over it. The game against City and Villareal are already won.I don't see any of them posing a threat with our current form. |
vinisky:Make una thank God say una hold Carling Cup because I don't see any other trophy going to Old Trafford this season. It's good I say the truth that Fergie is really a legend who has left his footprints in the sands of time but I'm sorry that he's gonna retire with a more glamorous trophy than Carling Cup. |
eleshin:You just don't get it,do you? Chelsea is full of old legs purged by the fat pay they earn and to make matters worse, the management lacks the ability to make things happen. So, I don't see Chelsea posing any threat to Liverpool in the Champions League that Liverpool is so experienced in. So, they should start thinking of how to inject fresh legs into the team instead of living on a tantalizing mirage that they'll beat Liverpool in UCL. |
Barca is likely to meet Liverpool because I'm sure they'll beat Bayern and Liverpool will triumph over the money purged blues. It's going to be a tough fixture and the Reds might pull a surprise as they did to Madrid. |
cyanider: true talkThey lack proper management because when there's so much money to waste, they're bound to lack creativity and ingenuity because they feel money is everything and they allow the money to becloud there sense of reasoning if at all they have any. |
Lloyd~Iy:Sorry Loser, Just take consolation in Carling Cup victory for that's the only silverware for Man U this season. |
switch47: Yeah hammer them.Chelsea should just forget about winning anything this season. They should bring in fresh legs hungry for success to replace the old lazy legs that are being purged by their fat pay at Stamford bridge. They think Guus will perform the same miracle he did with Australia or Russia The cloud of millions at the bridge usually blocks the brain of any coach that comes there and Hiddink will not be an exception. |
dominic tj:Yeah Up the Reds They should keep up the form and compound the woes of the blues by eliminating them from Champions League in April. Man U should hold on to Carling Cup for they shall not win any other trophy this season. |

The reason we can't negotiate with better countries is simply because of the lack of organizational ability in NFF.They go for countries that will accept smaller portions of the gate takings. I can remember that England once paid Brazil 15 million pounds for a friendly game in 2007. Also, the coach sure wants to keep his job and playing stronger teams will sure expose technical flaws in the Super Eagles which may lead to his sack. Abi u no go like do anything to keep your job? |
dammytosh:True talk bro |
