Stop being penny wise pound foolish!
When it comes to your safety on the road, 3 factors account for that.
1. Your driving habit/decisions on the road
2. Other road user driving habit/decisions.
3. Your tyres, which is the reason for this article.
Your tyres are the connection between your vehicle and the road, hence why the decision you take while purchasing it might make/mar you.
From my experience, there are 5 classes of tyres in Nigeria according to their prices and value.
Category A (High quality brand new tyres): This are the best form of tyres to go for if you can afford it, though our country's current economic situation makes it difficult for most vehicle users to afford them. Most of this tyres come from reputable brands and are usually made from countries perceived to have high standards of production. The prices of this class of tyres could be as much as #40,000 - #45,000 per unit for the lowest and much more subject to the size of the tyre.
Category B (Lower quality brand new tyres): To be able to meet the demands of vehicle users who can't afford the prices of category A, importers tend to compromise on quality of materials and bring in tyres that are cheaper in prices. Yes, they might do the job too, but I bet you they won't be as durable as the former. Thread wear would happen faster and tyres could get damaged easily on a bad road. Prices could vary from #20000- #25,000 for the lowest sizes. Now, here's the thing, if it ought to take you 24months depending on usage though to replace category A tyres, know that you will might be replacing category B in 12 months or thereabout also subject to usage. By so doing, it would have cost you more on the long run. That's if you don't have tyre burst on the highway, hence putting your life in danger.

Let me share my recent experience.
I started using my Corolla October last year and I have been using mobile XHP.
For the first 3months of service I bought the oil myself. The following ones I've been given mechanic money to buy the oil and he always open and put it in my present. After 2 servicing I discovered the check engine light started showing on the dashboard. I have been using it like that but last week when I wanted to do the servicing, I decided to buy the oil myself again from a reliable dealer and the mechanic put it as usual. After like 4 days the check light that has been ON for the past few months disappeared and never show up till this moment. As I'm typing this message a lot of questions are running through my mind especially regarding the mechanic
it is simple, mechanic bought ororo in mobil xhp gallon from vendor who sells by the roadside.

THE EFFECTS OF UNDERINFLATED AND OVERINFLATED TYRES

THE EFFECTS OF UNDERINFLATED AND OVERINFLATED TYRES
Share Now
One of our basic needs for survival is air. If you are a driver, this applies not just to your lungs, but to your car tyres as well!

Under inflated tyres

Driving on tyres that are underinflated is not just negligence, it is also very dangerous, being one of the leading causes of tyre failure. When tyre pressure is low, its surface area that touches the road increases. The increased footprint, if left unattended, will increase friction, which can cause overheating. Overheating, in turn, can lead to premature wear, tread separation, and eventually, a blowout. Depending on the severity of the blowout, you could lose control of the vehicle, putting you and other drivers in harm’s way.

The change in the footprint of the tyre also has other repercussions such as longer braking distances which can prove dangerous, and an increase in fuel consumption as more energy is needed to make the tyre roll.

Overinflated tyres

When it comes to tyres and air, there’s also the ‘too much of a good thing’ factor. In overinflated tyres, the sidewalls and tread become harder than normal and the contact patch of the tyre on the road shrinks. This change in footprint can reduce traction and performance, giving you a bouncy ride and affecting the handling of the car. Over-inflation will also cause uneven wear thereby decreasing the life of your tyres.

What’s the right pressure for your tyres?

Tyres inflated to the recommended PSI offer optimum life and performance. The recommended pressure is usually between 30 and 35 PSI – the minimum amount of pressure a tyre needs to support the vehicle’s maximum load-carrying capacity.

Optimum not maximum pressure.

Do not go by the pressure number listed on the tyres, which is the maximum allowable pressure. You need to know the optimum manufacturer-recommended pressure for your tyres.

You will find the recommended pressure in the owner’s manual or the tyre placard, which is usually found in the driver’s door jamb, or on the door of the glove compartment or the gas filler.

Check the pressure of all five tyres – the spare included, once a month and before long road trips, even if they look fine. Because you can’t tell just by looking. Radial tyres can appear to be fully inflated even after losing much of their air pressure. If a tyre does look under-inflated, chances are it is way more out of air than it appears.

pressure monitoring system (TPMS) to keep track as most systems only warn you when the pressure is way below the recommended amount – up to 25% less.

The best time to check tyre pressure

The other important factor is ‘cold’ pressure. Tyres heat as you drive, and take about a half-hour to cool down. So the ideal time to check your tyres is when they are cold, first thing in the morning or after cooling in the shade for a few hours.

Stick by these rules and you will enjoy better fuel economy, reduced tyre wear and most important of all, safe driving.

I guess at the end of the day we can't all make it driving uber/bolt. Without the doubt there are people who this hustle have helped to put their feet on the ground and it also goes the other way round as well.

I can't advice anyone to quit their day jobs for this hustle, as for me I am just too lazy to come and start driving up and down Lagos before I go feed my family--just too lazy for that.

Presently where I work my job demands so much from me in terms of time of resumption and the time I close [it shall never be well for covid-19] but for now I don't see myself leaving my job for this hustle.

I think the hard part of this hustle is staying motivated. If one can stay motivated and disciplined enough for a set period of time then one can achieve, provided your village people allow you drink water and keep cup.

Thank you.

I know borale but this was not borale. I bought borale earlier for my 307 for N60k or so then.

This one was full tokunbo engine as they said. My Rewire told me he had the engine and would sell to me at N130k but I sidelined him and went through someone else to buy it in same Ladipo for that N200k. I later discovered that the seller cheated me as a novice because some parts like kick, nuzzle, and others were not added. I had to give him small nsogbu for him to give me a compressor.

The car is not doing badly now sha, I know how I manage it. I have even placed it on sale for N800k and people are willing to buy it for N600k and N700k. My Rewire has advised me against selling it that cars are very expensive now.

Yes, I am in Lagos.
cars are expensive now, dont sell ridicously.

Now, here goes the story.

I went with my Mechanic to another state to buy the 407. We got there, he test-drove it and everything was fine. We paid and drove the car back to state.

I paid my Mech for all the mechanical works he will need to do on the car including servicing, and that when he is done he should take the car to my Rewire for assessment and electrical fix up.

On checking it, my Rewire was very angry with my Mech for going to buy such abused Lion for me. Rewire said the car was an original LHD that was converted, original diesel engine that was changed to petrol. He was vissibly angry with the Mech guy for misleading me.
I was very surprised because we drove the car interstate and didn't have any issue on the road.

I eventually did the folowing to fix the car.
1. I bought a new BSI, brain box and key (they said it comes together)
2. New fuse box
And some other things I can't remember.

After the rewire was done, I still discovered that the car was doing overheating. I decided to take it to a Peugeot dealer in Mainland to fix. On my way there, the car did overheating four times on the road and it burnt the gasket and some other important parts of the engine and I was told the engine was badly damaged by the overheating. I had to buy this new EW10 engine (full tokunbo) for N200,000.00, I bought selection cable for N25,000 (because the gear was very strong right from when I bought it), new clutch disc and plate, and some other stuff I have forgotten.

The car is now okay to a large extent but the major issue now is that if I leave it for a long time, it drains the battery, so I normally remove the battery head till I need to drive it.

That's the story.
eyah, sorry about your experience. Your engine isn't up to 200k, I'm sure you bought borale engine and that shouldn't be more than 120k max. Truth is, Car as been seriously abused. Are you in Lagos?

Where you won c tokunbo summer or 4 seasons tire?

I've only been lucky once and it was just 1 pieces I was able to buy.

That particular type of tire are very scarce to see as you... Gazzuzz says he has it one time I contacted him but its very expensive and we needed 4pcs then.

You even have to be good with tire types to even know or identify or different btw a winter and summer or 4seasons tires.

Winter tires are the most popular tires in Nigeria when it comes to tokunbo
it is available, its either you've been looking at the wrong places or you want them at the regular prices.

How do I know the engine it came with originally?
the car came with diesel engine and as been converted to petrol engine already. If convertion is properly done, then you have nothing to worry about.
