Working principle of the Groundnut picker

I bought it when I realized the cost of harvesting of groundnut is outrageous in the south

Wacot yellow maize is the one planted later.

My target are the feedmillers and from experience, I know they prefer the white maize to yellow hence I planted more of white

An insightful thread @emmaodet.
Did you lease the land you are using or is it your family land. What is the process you used to acquire the land for your agribusiness at Obafemi Owode.

Thank you.
I lease the land from a friend who relocated to Canada for 10k per acre per year.
For now, i will stick to leasing than outright buying.
I lost 10 acres to Omo onile in 2020. Took them to state police headquarters last year and so many brouhahas.
Not ready for that again.
Also, I structured my farming plan in such a way that mobility is my priority.
This is Nigeria with so many issues with Fulani herdsmen and kidnapping.
I structured my farm in a way that if the environment is not favourable or the investment didn't go as planned, I can either quickly close it down and move on or easily relocate to another location.
The farmland being mine will trap me down and makes me emotional but a lease can easily be shut down, equipment moved to another place easily and we continue

Sure bro..

One of your student though.
Really appreciate your efforts.

Hope it looks healthy?
Hahaha.

One of my student? Don't remember you.
Did you plant local or hybrid seeds? Because I am really thinking of switching to local seeds.
I called IAR, Zaria they said 2,500 per kg for Samnut 24, called Icrisat in Kano 1,800 per kilo, ABC in Kaduna 1,800 and other seeds maker same price.
The one I bought 2 years ago was 900 per kg and I can't just imagine buying seeds for 2,500 now.

Your crops look like local seeds used.

How are you going to pluck and thresh the groundnuts?

Great job..... Hardworking man.....Your manager too is doing a good job....

If u run bike business in Benin Republic, after some years, the unwritten rule is that u pay them for their dedication and service by 'dashing' them that bike.
Thanks very much.

Never knew that is how they operate in Benin rep.
They so much like bikes here. They avoid collecting cash rather bike as payment at the end of the year

A productive and resourceful man is an attractive one, I'm happy for you and I wish you the best. Get your younger brother involved and busy too, the one you've complained of, the Dubai returnee grin. Herdsmen invade every where they can find food for their cattle so please be careful.
Thanks Klass for the compliment. I am really blushing over here.
About my younger brother .... Hmmmmm... It is a long story

Nice and good project. That is the first step of a long term project.
Please, how can one get yearly workers from the region you get cos I need some?
Tbh, I will say I was lucky to get the farm workers at 300k per year.
Most Cotonou guys want Bajaj bike at the end of the year which is around 550k/600k and too much for most farmers.
This boys cited naira devaluation as reason for the rising cost in workers.
Normally, a bike is what they collect at the end of the year. It started when bike was around 250k, then with time as naira devalues, it became 300k, 350k, 400k etc till 550/600k now and most farmers says No more. They can't cope and I see this as a major headache for most southern farmers in future.
The northern farmers don't have this issue.
They have a large cheap labours and alimanjeris they use for farming cheaply and likewise the use of cow for doing ploughing compared to a southern farmer that will use tractor.
Farm clearing here is 17k per acre and 20k per acre for ridging compared to north were the price may be less than half off that.
Reason why their maize, tomatoes etc will always be cheaper than ours here

Nice one emmaodet. I hope your farmland is not in a location where fulani herdsmen and their cows wreck havoc on people's hard work?
Thanks.

Not at all.
We don't have Fulani issues here.
Imeko area in Ogun state is the area that has issue most with them

@emmaodet. Good one so far. I supposed the aim of this thread is to enlighten people about farming, its merits and demerits. If true, kindly carry people along with the overhead expenses you have incurred from inception. My little calculation of the wages of your farm manager alone for 6 months should be N480,000 (80k x 6 months). What of expenses on farmland? did you buy the land or lease it? And for how much, amidst other expenses incurred (land clearing, fertilizer, pesticides, etc) till this date.

This will help in calculating if expenses incurred up till harvest time will be commensurate with your earning expectations on the farm. I like your energy though.
I will but it will take a lot of time to compile that.
Promised to do that and tag you before Thursday on it

Nice, job well done. I also have maize snd cassava on 2 acres of land. Pictures soon. I don’t have any knowledge in agriculture just trying this for the first time. Though the land belongs to my father and decided to grow crops on it.

I plan to clear the weed next week. To help the maize well. Harvesting is august. I will send the pictures when next I go to the farm
Okay bro.

The maize currently.
We planted in batches taking climate change, drought etc into consideration to avoid high exposure to these risks.
Like a risk management

yeah.

If one dies, you won't lose the stand. Besides the harvest will be more.

Now if one stick gets damaged, you'll lose the entire stand.
We always do replanting if we noticed those that didn't grow due to drought or any other factor
