When filling the TB form is it better to state your preferred interest rate or go with bank rate?
It's always safer to go with the bank rate.

What did Stanbic post? Axa mansard is also doing 11.59 at a time when fixed deposits have gone to 13%

Seriously considering moving my funds away if the rates don't improve.
Don't make that mistake. Fixed deposits can never be better than MMF. Why do you think banks don't like investors, look well before you leap.
Don't use a sledgehammer to kill mosquitoes.

Poor as well. Expecting upwards of 15% at this time.
Increased rates will affect MMF and Fixed income positively but it's not automatic. In most cases, it takes effect gradually once the funds are revalued to match the current realities. Fund managers also tend to rely more on MPR than Tbills rates. By next week when the MPC meets it will be clearer the direction the rate will go.

Here is my preference as per mutual funds:
MMF - Stanbic MMF curreently 11.73%
Dollar fund - Norrenbeger currently 9.2% (They accept less than $1000 and could accept cash at the point of deposit)
Fixed income fund - SFS Capital currently 11.02%

Codevalley:
Why is the MMF rate still poor across board despite the increase in TB rate? sad.
Rate increase for Tbills is less than a week. The effect of the increase rate will definitely affect MMF positively, just be patient. As the fund mangers revalue their underlying assets with the current rate the increase in rate will be obvious on MMF.

If you check this morning Stanbic MMF has moved from 10.81% to 11.53% as at this morning

Investment one is very bad, sorry to quote you, I am switching to a fintech broker like as soon as I am done correcting the phone number on my bvn. Imagine investment one charging me N600 on N6,000 shares I bought...the cost has even eroded all capital appreciation I may get.
@dayjeee I guess you don't understand how it works. Investment One and any brokerage firm can't charge more than the regulatory fees, it's automated as stipulated by the regulators. They strictly operate in compliance with the rule of engagement in the capital market. I'm sure they can never charge you that much. No transaction gets up to a 10% charge on any consideration.
Please be well guided.

Thank you.

I don't even get the results coming out this year from companies. Are all the results un audited. Why am I not seeing dividend declaration. U cap use to take the lead in this aspect.
It's normal. For companies that submitted unaudited results a month after the end of the fourth quarter, they have till 31st of March to submit their audited results while companies that didn't submit unaudited have two months ie by the end of February to submit their audited results.
However, a company can be in the league of Early Filers like Geregu and submit audited results much earlier than those deadlines.

chukzyfcbb:
The thing is the rates swing easily in MMF.
Yes it's 19% now, next two months it could drop to 15% and subsequently to 12% affecting the total profit

Whereas an investor in tbills will lock it down for the year
Yes rates are daily valued in MMF but the truth is when Tbills rate is high it affects MMF positively.

MMF also has its advantages
Easy entry and exit without penalty after 30days.This makes MMF very good for emergency fund.
It can be invested in with as little as 5,000
If rate changes upward it affects MMF positively but Tbills is static for the tenor.
Reinvestment ie Compounding is easily done with MMF.

So both Tbills and MMF are good for any conservative investor it depends on what you wish to achieve at any point in time in your investment journey or strategy.

The truth is that there is no one form of investment that can meet all the needs of an investor hence diversification is always encouraged.

Hogwarthtrades:
The increase rate is a new development bros/madam!!! If it's a money market fund even fixed income fund should gradually reflect the increase in coming weeks (depends on the exposure of the fund to recent tbill / bond market auction).
@Hogwarthtrades you are very correct.

For investors in mutual funds particularly MMF and fixed income fund note that any change in tbills rate or MPR will surely affects the funds since one of the major underlying asset for these funds is tbills but the change is not instant. It will take effect when revalution is done using the new rate.

One thing is sure, a positive change in tbills rate or MPR is a plus for all MMF or Fixed income investors but it's the opposite for equity investors/traders all things being equal.

Pls is investing in dollars now advisable considering the rate
Having dollars is just a hedge against devaluation/inflation outside that having dollars is not an investment per se. If things were normal in Nigeria dollar would be just another currency.

If you can get the dollars, a dollar fund or dollar placement is not bad but if it's difficult getting dollars, having good stocks with great potential and a good dividend payment policy can also be a good alternative.

I’m still in search of dollar funds investment. I was about starting Dollar mutual funds before I noticed that it can depreciate and eat into your capital. Please I need suggestions on which to go with.
All dollar funds operates the same way except if you want to do dollar placement instead, it's similar to fixed deposit where you have a fixed rate for a specified tenor. Your capital and the agreed interest is guaranteed and paid to you at the end of the tenor.
Chat me up if you opt for dollar placement.

You can't cancel you bid on investment one app until around 6pm
You can if you have DMA (Direct Market Access). If you have DMA you can cancel at any time otherwise it will be between 4pm and 7am.

To have DMA simply send a mail to customer care asking them to profile your account for DMA and it will be done without any cost.

What? Is that the new rule? That dividends older than 12 years is gone? huh
grin grin grin grin grin
@BullBearMkt, this rule has always be there perherps because must people dont wait that long before making moves to claim their dividend hence they are not aware. It's not new.

In fact there is a move to reduce it to 6 years as well as FG to borrow unclaimed dividend but shareholders group continue to fight against it.

Hello guys, I need your advice.

My wife here just got an info to claim an unclaimed dividends of share she bought about 23 years ago with Conoil before she left Nigeria.

She has gone through the link and found out her name is there:
https://sec.gov.ng/non-mandated/

Now she does not have the certificate any more nor any Nigeria bank account number.

She is wondering if it worth it to come down to naija to claim it or not .

Please, brokers in the house what's your advice ?
Whether it's worth it or not to come over depends on her holdings currently. If her holdings is not much there is no point coming purposely for the dividend or the proceeds.

Also note that any dividend older than 12 years cannot be paid to her.

Personally I will advice if the quantity she has is not much, there is no point coming because her dividend and the proceeds from the sale may not cover the cost of her ticket except if she has other things to do here in Nigeria.
By the way conoil closed today at 101.

Ah. Oga they don't o. I would advice anyone going into such funds to be very wary.

I opened an equity based fund few days back and had been making some pretty impressive gains, but yesterday apparently the drop in share prices wiped out not just gains but part of my principal!! 🥺😣
That is why I said though they can give value also but you must be vigilant especially equity funds.
It's just like buying stocks directly. If you have the patient on the long run you can get value.

Like you said and I normally advice my clients if you are new in investment world, it's always better to start with MMF and fixed income funds. That is not to say balance or equity funds are bad investments.
The most important thing is to know your risk tolerance and stick to it and don't allow the euphoria of the market influence you so much as to ignore your risk tolerance no matter the gains a risky investment promise to give

is this not stressful?
Of course, that is where individual investor's objective comes in with consideration of their risk tolerance.

Yes, fixed-income fund, actually even balance fund or equity funds do but it requires that you be vigilant and know when to pull out.

please anyone have an advice for someone who wants to invest in stanbic dollar mutual fund or incase there’s alternative please share, thanks.
You can go ahead, most dollar funds returns are in the range of 5.5 -7.5%. They all operate the same way because the underlying asset is majorly eurobonds.

However, in terms of initial deposits Norrenberger accepts less than $1,000 and also accepts naira deposits at a conversion rate slightly above the black market rate on the day of the transaction.

Good morning sir. Thank you for being so generous with this info. Please how can I monitor the market to be able to make decisions? Can you point me to any thread on NL or any material you can recommend?
You can get information on NASD website and from individual company's website especially for the few active ones.

Ginalex:
Good evening sir.

Trust you had a great day.
Please could you be so kind to point me to a NASD thread? I'm curious to learn and know how it works. Thank you
The NASD platform is just like the NGX with quoted companies.

However, the market is not very active as the NGX.
Like oga Emma pointed out, just few companies are traded regularly. Most of the shareholders in NASD companies buy to hold. They are mostly owners. You hardly see traders there. Many of the deals you see in NASD are cross deals. Also not all stockbroking firms have the license to operate on NASD.

To participant in NASD market, you will need to open a NASD cscs account.
Note that all trades are through your stockbroker. No online trading platform for investors. It operates like the early days of the NSE where you have to send buy/sell orders to your broker by email to execute on your behalf.

If you are interested in opening a NASD account, you can come over to investment one stockbrokers. Get in touch to get account opening form.

Hello, I'm new to the Nigerian stock market and looking to get started. Could someone guide me on how to set up an online trading account? Additionally, I would appreciate recommendations for both online and offline resources, such as books, that can help deepen my understanding of stock trading. Are there any movies that you would suggest for gaining a better insight into this field? I'm seeking advice from those experienced in this area. Thank you for your help!
@FP55 it's a good move to come on board the capital market.

You will need to open a stock/cscs account.
You can do that with Investment One stockbrokers for free. click the third link on my signature to get started.

You will need the following:

Passport photo
ID card which can either be a driver's license, NIN, voter card, or In'l passport.
Utility bill not older than 3 months
Your signature

When the account is opened you will have access to the market online through the provided app or web portal.
You can also reach out to me if you need more clarity.

By the way, I hope it's not because you see or hear that the market is on a bullish run that you are coming in.
If that is the case you will need to rethink and make sure you have gotten your investment objectives and have a reason for your move and not just because of the euphoria of the moment.

Whatever the case it's a good decision to invest. You are welcome.
