Politics / Re: Sense Of Entitlement Syndrome In Nigeria Too Much – Ngige by Emmaxy9(m): 6:16pm On May 01, 2023
N3TRAL:
If you have passed through a public university in Nigeria and then you think Dr. Ngige isn't making sense , then you should forfeit your degree.

Education in Nigeria is heavily subsidized. Nigeria cannot train you almost free of charge and then you run away to a foreign country when Nigeria lacks sufficient manpower in your field of endeavor. The practice is worse than being unpatriotic. It is wickedness.

Medical doctors spend less than a million naira in tuition in Federal universities to complete their program. In fact, during the NYSC program, most medical students make back the money they spent on their tuition.

Many medical doctors in the foreign countries you wickedly dump Nigeria for spend the first two years of their career paying back student loans. Their salary is high because of the high cost of living in their country which is why they pay an average of 100,000 USD for medical education ( tuition+ others fees).

The government doesn't intend to stop you from migrating. No, they'll be stupid to do that because it's against the tenets of FHRs .
The FG is simply telling you, if Nigeria is the worst country on Earth, go to Canada, US or UK and spend 50,000 USD to acquire medical training and then work for them. If you want to benefit from our subsidy then you must compulsorily serve us for a few couple of years.

However, the policy of the FG is not good for the long run because medical consultants, experts and specialists will greatly reduce in Nigerian hospitals as there's no embargo placed against them.

What's the need of having many medical doctors who are not really proficient?

The best practice remains improving the welfare of Medical practitioners and enlightening them of their Hippocratic oath to serve their black brothers and sisters.

God Bless Dr Ngige. He's a patriotic Nigerian!
No arguments with your post. To solve the problem like you stated, then let Nigeria charge millions for medical degree and pay the same $200k annually like in the US. Ask yourself, can Nigeria afford to pay over 10million naira monthly to doctors?

Health / Re: Brain Drain: FG Moves To Hire Nigerian Doctors Abroad by Emmaxy9(m): 5:22pm On Jan 11, 2023
Parachoko:
There should bw a law that will ban doctors anɗ Nurses who attended State and FG universities from traveling out if they have no work for 12 years in Nigeria.

You study medicine in Nigeria, pay cheap school fees cause it has been subsidise by the Govt and then leave Nigeria Govt job for a better pay abroad.

If you are not comfortable with the law, go study medicine for abroad
As far as the Nigerian government didn't pay medical doctors school fees, read their bulky textbooks for them and write those life-draining exams, the FG have no right whatsoever to ban doctors from leaving Nigeria.
Abia state doctors have been owed salaries for over 24 months and you still expect them to smile back to their families and be happy for sake of patriotism, right?
You, my friend, are one of the callous Nigerians who just spills anything to make themselves feel better.

The outside Nigeria using educational loans... Checkout their fees. An M.SC in the UK will cost u even as much as 10-16 million. If we really need quality education, everyone must be ready to contribute for it.
It's the way you guys reason that baffles me. Do Nigerians earn in Dollars? So why comparing the school fees to dollars? Why bring it in the first place if not for your "suffering mentality" that is peculiar to most Nigerians.

If you want to keep the comparisons then why not compare the salary of doctors in US to that in Nigeria. Why not ask the fg to pay doctors in Nigeria $500k per year?

Ignorance coupled with witless pretense.

I was told recently that school fee (minus accommodation) at Ife (OAU) is around N25k!

Some will say cheap school fees are their entitlement, and any attempt to increase it must be resisted.

Yet, they also complain about poor facilities, and poor pay for lecturers.

You can't have it both ways. It's one or the other. Reasonable tuition fee = reasonable facilities.

You condemn the country and rush to japa to UK or Canada where you are happy to pay £15k in tuition fees, which is about N14 million! Yet if they increase fees here to N80,000 (less than £100), you chase the school administrators out of campus and demand that the university be burnt down

We want federal government to subsidise everything - University, food, petrol, transport, housing etc On top of that, federal govt must also give free loans that people don't pay back. Haba!

We are refusing to face reality.

Usually wire wire, BEC, drugs, robbery and all forms of fraud.
Sorry to to say but this is a poverty mindset. You're one of the folks who believe that success or extreme wealth is gotten only through fraud and not through hardwork.

The same abroad you're talking about, there are young people, even less than 25 years, making good money, and buying houses. I know a 25 year old man who stays at Dubai and makes millions of dollars through information marketing. Change your mindset tho

Babalakin34:
Help! I need a teaching or non-teaching gig in any part of Kwara state. I'm willing to travel to any other location if there is free accommodation.

I'm a MCB finalist in one of the topmost universities in Nigeria. The ongoing ASUU-FG tussle has affected me badly. When it all began, I knew I had to do something productive, so I revamped my freelance content writing journey by signing up on Upwork and Fiverr. I'm actually a freelance content writer in the sports (football, boxing and MMA), pet and entertainment niches.

I haven't had it easy since I started working on Upwork and Fiverr around February, it's been full of ups and downs, now I think I need something else to engage in for the time being. I need something to keep myself busy throughout the course of the industrial action.

I can teach most basic sciences effortlessly, my fortes are Physics and Chemistry (You don't have to take my word for it, I can prove my skills and abilities to you). I can also take Biology and English classes, depending on which roles are available.

I'm opened to both part-time and full-time jobs. I know there are people who have the means to fix me up with something and that's the main reason why I'm reaching out. It's better than dying in silence.

If you have any profitable job for me (teaching and non-teaching), even if it's a writing gig, please reach me on 08161768404 (call and WhatsApp)
I would be very grateful.
Best regards!
It is a good thing to search for help especially when you've tried somethings. However, I must say freelancing can be a full time job if you put in the work. Upwork is an excellent platform to use. Average clients pay like 20$ per 1000 words which is about 12k in black market. Imagine you write about 20 a month that will be 240k.

Don't give up on Upwork and keep applying as best as you can while you open your eyes to offline jobs. I wish you the best.

Before i start my story..I hope to inspire some of the medical students...Or students planning to study medicine and are having issues...

My Story So far.,

After graduating from secondary school.. I couldnt get an admission into my dream school University of Ibadan to study Medicine.. My life felt like it was gonna end.. My world kept shattering.. My family gave me no breathing space..I wasnt free to do any of my fun activities..I was grounded for months and weeks.. Until i had to sit for the next jamb... I sat for the next jamb..and still got no admission...

All thanks to God.. i gained admission into a Caribbean Medical University. To study my dream course medicine... Let me Highlight How Medical school works in the Carribean.. Its a total of 4years.. You spend a yr doing Foundation classes.. (PreMed). And then you spend 2 years doing Basic Science..Where proper medical school begins.... I scaled through every class and every course.. I finished both my foundation and my basic science classes... To start my clinicals in the States..I had to go back to Nigeria to apply for a US visa.. I got B1 visa successfully..and without much stress...thanks to my school

The moment came when my future was to be defined... I was registered for the board exam.. United State Medical Licensing Examination.. Passing this exam was gonna shape my future.. Failing it was gonna crush everything i built from my Nursery School days.. I sat for the exam after spending 4months studying..The first challenge for me was motivation. So Before the exam, I watched all Kaplan Medicine videos (also watched surgery, psych videos, a few important obgyn and peds video). Then I took a baseline NBME where I scored 191.

It showed the videos weren't enough for me to be prepared for my step 1....iI sat for the main exam.. USMLE Step 1.. And i scored 230... I was on the edge.. I thought the score was bad.. till my Dean called me directly..And congratulated me.. YH.I knew my dreams were slowly coming through.. I began my 72 weeks clinical rotations at Jackson Park Hospital Chicago.. I took my step 2 examination after my clinical rotations..And i scored 242..A pretty nice score i was proud of..
After all the reading and late night sleeps.. And constant anti depressant helps.. I got a nice hospital for my residency program..Where the money started popping in cheesy cheesy cheesy grin grin grin ...From there..I knew my life has begun..My dream has come thru.. I went back to my alma mata.. Encouraged students and gave them tips on how to pass the board examinations.. And surely..I would also want to help my fellow nairalanders that are following the same pathway...

Am a state licensed Doctor.I have been practising for 3 years now..Paediatrics Surgery is my specialized field of medicine. The only problem i have is little time... And..i guess am not just ready to build a family till my workload drops a little bit... wink wink wink wink.. And i hope the woman of my life..Walks into my life..anytime soon...hehe..
The only time i have..I spend it on nairaland wink wink..Reading all the possessed threads.. cheesy cheesy cheesy..

If u also need help following dis same pathways..i can always be available for assistance and advices.. ADIÓS

Lesson: Dont give up quickly..And never settle for less..Always aspire for the top.. If i had given up after failing to get admission twice... I would have been studying maybe Agricultural science... (Patients Are calling**** cheesy cheesy cheesy
I just hope i inspired someone..

300k is still considered poor in Nigeria. It would tak you more than 30 years to even build a decent house of averagely 50m.

Go while you still can. And in years, you'd make lots of profits if you have a marketable skill to earn you cash in the US.

For example, a doctor in the US earning 15m monthly is 10 years ahead of his mate earning 15m in 10 years.

Go while you still can
