Obi1kenobi: Why are you people decieving yourselves? Nigeria and West Africans are the biggest age cheats on the planet and can routinely forge birth certificates anywhere and everywhere. Everybody who is not biased knows this. Europeans not as desperate as Nigerians are and they have reliable public databases and documentation that make it almost impossible to falsify your age. It's why European players play till they're almost 40 while Nigerian players like Yakubu, Aghahowa, Martins, Utaka etc look almost finished before they're 30. It's why Nigeria and Ghana can win Under-17 three times but they're non-entities in real senior international football. Some Europeans can look older than their age but it doesn't mean they falsify their age. Rooney looks older than his age but you can track his youth career since he was 8 or 9 in Everton's youth team. That is not obtainable in Nigeria. You are suffering from inferiority complex. Go get yourself a cure asap. |

Golden Eaglets striker Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed that his goal celebration was inspired by his favourite wrestler Daniel Bryan. Iheanacho scored four goals in Nigeria’s 6-1 defeat of Mexico in the UAE 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Al Ain City on Saturday. Iheanacho raced to corner flag whenever he scored, raised and pumped his arms, extending his fingers to the heavens. His knees followed along in rhythm to celebrate his goals. “This is the celebration move of my favourite professional wrestler,” Iheanacho told FIFA.com. Bryan is this Nigerian boy’s favourite wrestler, a bearded American from the outskirts of Seattle who occasionally goes by the moniker, the American Dragon. “I watch him on TV and I love the way he whips up the crowd this way, so I decided to copy it. The fans seemed to like it, too,” he added. “I was totally over the top with joy when that first goal went in.” He said his goals against defending champions Mexico on Saturday marked the first time he would score that number of goals in an international match. “I’ve scored four goals in a game many times, but only in the streets with my friends,” the striker said. “But (it has) never (been) in an international match, never for my country. The feeling is amazing. “Sure, it’s a big win in our first game. We have to have courage now and determination to keep going, to go all the way.” Nigeria’s next group game will be against Sweden on Tuesday, while their last group tie will be against Iraq three days later. Nigeria currently top their group with three points from one match, with Sweden who were 4-1 winners over Iraq on Saturday behind them in second place. |

Manu: Same approach for Sweden After seeing his wards dismantle Mexico 6-1 on Saturday, Nigeria Under-17 coach Manu Garba says the approach to the game will not change against Sweden. Garba, whose Total Football left the defending champions cross-eyed, insists there will be no question of underrating the Europeans when the Nigerian cadets return to the Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium on Tuesday to face the debutants from Europe. “There is no and won't be any easy game at this tournament and we are not going to underrate Sweden because we beat Mexico 6-1," he said. "We are going to approach the match against Sweden with the same manner as we did against Mexico because our objective is to win the fourth title for Nigeria.” He said the convincing win against the Mexicans was not unexpected given the pedigree of the team overtime. “The victory against Mexico is not going to have a negative impact on my players because they know what they have to do,” he maintained. “This is not the first time we are beating a team by such a high margin. “We had beaten teams by 11-0 score line back home, so it is nothing new to us to score so many goals against the Mexicans. “We are looking forward to the next game against Sweden knowing well that all the teams at this championship are here based on merit,” he added. The Golden Eaglets returned to training Sunday evening as they continued their preparations for their next match. |

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - A World Cup berth appears unlikely after their home defeat to Nigeria but a growing legion of Ethiopian fans are taking to Twitter to lure overseas-based players eligible to represent the Walyas. Nigeria came from behind to snatch a last-gasp 2-1 win over Ethiopia in the first leg of their playoff in Addis Ababa after two goals from Emmanuel Emenike helped them take a big step towards next year's finals in Brazil. But Ethiopia's fans have now found something to cheer about as their largely-domestic based Walyas - named after an endemic antelope - could be boosted by a small contingent of players plying their trade in Europe. After Arsenal's 16-year old prodigy Gedion Zelalem - who is also eligible to play for Germany and the United States - tweeted "Still proud" following Sunday's loss, Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom took on the task of luring the young Gunner. "Hi Gedion. Good to hear from you. We hope you will play for Ethiopia soon," he tweeted back. Tedros also contacted Norway-based striker Askar Amin, who plays for top flight side Brann, via the micro-blogging platform. "I just spoke to Amin on the phone and he's very positive about playing for our country. Thanks so much Amin!," the official tweeted. Ethiopian fans have now launched what they dub a "Twitter diplomacy" campaign to snap up Arsenal midfielder Zelalem, under "#ZelalemForEthiopia". "Join #ZelalemForEthiopia and share your thoughts if you want to see Gedion Zelalem to join the Walyas," tweeted @Fahologist, a Kinshasa-based Ethiopian. Walyas' coach Sewnet Bishaw said he would not contact Zelalem personally. "Unless he sends his application to the (Ethiopian Football) Federation, or calls one of the football officials or me, how can I bring him? I don't even know his address," he told Reuters. "If he decides to play for Ethiopia and asks us, then things will be easy." Zelalem, currently sidelined through injury, impressed during Arsenal's pre-season tour of Asia before he was named among the substitutes for the Premier League match against Fulham in August. Arsenal fans have labelled him the "new Fabregas" after the Spaniard Cesc Fabregas who transferred from the Premier League club to Barcelona. www.uk.mobile.reuters.com/article/idUKBRE99H0GV20131018?irpc=932 |
