LOL  grin Cute baby

Basically I'm wondering how can someone be pining or be attached emotionally to another person from the web. Some people are charismatic I get that, but to invest emotionally I just don't know. I know there is online dating etc but that is premeditated and as such there is an objective to those sites. However some people actually catch feelings for a person on a random web (that is dissociated from online dating).
How does such occur?
dj candy:
Obviously these people lack attention in their real lives so they seek love on the web! Aint nothing wrong in that, so long as no one gets swindled or hurt!
I agree.

developing emotional attachment ovet the inetrnet is very dangerous o.
I agree.

Some people cannot differentiate fantasy from reality or sometimes they merge the two. On the internet the line between fact and fiction is very fine and a lot of the times feelings and thoughts can get misinterpreted over the net. Investing emotionally to an anonymous intangible person on the internet is not really healthy nor wise in my opinion.

@emofine,
Hiss. I kept reading your story waiting for the interesting part and something worth discussing and realized the story was not even anything serz. Its not like they had something or the guy used her or exploited her financially so whats the fuzz.
lol please forgive me I had to render the censored version but yes you are right he never exploited her financially perhaps emotionally but I blame her more. I guess she felt like a spare tyre but hopefully now she'll move on, focus on school and not cyber Romeo.

The whole story sound like a nursery rhyme. She is intact now, its just an experience she probably just wanted to explore and came out hale and ok.
Yeah she confessed that she wanted to meet him in his country, well he did send her an invitation to come over - thank God she's broke (well he apparently offered to foot the bill).

RomanceWhy Do People Develop Emotional Attachment Over The Internet? by emofine(op): 10:30am On Jun 18, 2011
Earlier in the year my cousin slowly began to isolate herself. Well she's young so I assumed that kind of behavior was commonplace especially in the western society abi
So to get to the core of the issue, during her self-inflicted isolation she "befriended" one guy on the internet - I say befriended but abeg you people sabi better thing.

My cousin was actually going through a difficult period to be fair to her but instead of reaching out to her nearest and dearest she chose to reach out to a complete stranger over the web  sad

She is usually sensible but I was surprised to find out how far she had taken levels with this stranger (side-note: why do some women allow compliments to go to their head and then begin to forget reasoning huh)

She started actually skipping school to talk to this guy. I was just thinking what company does this guy provide her that her family members and friends cannot give her again  cry

Anyway she told me that the guy initiated the conversation and in the beginning she was actually weary (actually she's shy). I and her friend warned her that plenty wayo people dey over the net, that guy is sleazy (he too dey toast any babes over the net sha) and that she should kuku eliminate contact from said guy now now.
She come dey do yanga for us whilst that guy started doing yanga for her. In the beginning he used to call her up (yep she was even silly enough to give him her number - smh). When the calls started to cool she began calling him and the funny thing is he hardly answers her calls. I told this girl to stop disturbing the guy that he is probably busy anyway - I mean there is an age gap between them.

She refused to listen again and proceeded to video call him. You see how this guy be, when she agreed to video call that is when he feigned interest in her again. I'm not surprised really because he kept on asking for her pics which she declined and I thank God for that.

Anyhow the way she narrates her own side of the story, she tell me say things don cool off now, that last time she called him he wasn't really interested in anything she was saying and that he was flaunting his exploits with other girls in her face.

I ain't gonna lie, she's my coz and I love her but part of me feel she deserves it for being a little bit silly  embarassed

She tell me say the guy no fine when she saw him but she still dey do shakara for us and I bet the way she was acting I bet she made that guy feel handsome (smh)

This whole circumstance was so strange to me yet I believe it is not uncommon. Why on earth do people become emotionally attached to other people over the internet? What is this trend? Do some people like the neutral perspective the other person could offer (because of their anonymity)?
Well I figured she was shy but she didn't remember her shyness when she was forming for this guy or do people feel a little secure knowing that the other person is in another country so they won't be confronted with that individual daily? is it an adventure to some? is it because of the fantasy and illusion (she wasn't truthful about everything) one can use as a cover? do people like a bit of danger? experimenting perhaps?

Okay I bet anyone can do most of the things I listed above in person so why seek affection over the internet? undecided

a) I am not a pervert
b) I am female
c) Even if the young girl was 40 I am not in the business of preying on any man or woman on the internet
d) I am but a teenager myself

I'm glad that Nollywood could be of some assistance to another African country. I't also nice of The Gambia to express their appreciation. Gambia is truly beautiful  kiss
Foreign AffairsTourism Minister Lauds 'mirror Boy' Success As Fruitful Gambian-nigerian Collabo by emofine(op): 11:20am On Jun 17, 2011
The Gambian minister of Tourism, Fatou Mass Jobe has applauded the substantial successes and achievements so far recorded by  ‘Mirror Boy’, a film shot in The Gambia with a considerable number of local actors.

Whilst speaking at the premiere held at the Kairaba Beach Hotel, she noted that the film does go a long way to show the beauty of The Gambia to the outside world and its enormous potential as an attractive tourist destination.

She said: “We want to promote The Gambia to the outside world as a tourist destination which creates employment for thousands of people. The Gambia is eco-friendly. The Gambia is beautiful and there is more to discover.”

She further went on to acknowledge the immense contributions of President Jammeh to the success of the film in keeping with his unwavering trust in the ability of Gambians in particular and Africans in general to achieve great things.

“His Excellency Sheikh Professor Dr. Yahya A J J Jammeh has immensely contributed to the success of this film because he believes in Gambian people. He is also a Pan-Africanist and when he sees something and believes in it, he urges all of us in the government to support it”.

She also recognized the sterling performance put in by the Gambian actors as a robust demonstration of the fact that the country has got talents, which can be nurtured and used as launching pad for a local film industry.

For her part, the director of Fabecs Promotions, Fatima Jabbi declared that she felt hugely privileged and proud to be part of the success of ‘The Mirror Boy’.

She maintained that she was very optimistic of its prospects for success owing, in no mean measure, to the blessing it received from President Jammeh from the very outset.

“I thank God for making this possible. It has been a long journey. I thank President Jammeh for being the Godfather of Mirror Boy. I thank him because he has a vision to make The Gambia grow and I am part of that vision. He should stay here because we have all seen what he has done in sixteen years,” she said.

The gigantic success of the experiment, according to her, should serve as proof, if one was needed, that there are potentially bright film actors in The Gambia who can compete with the best in the world.

Mrs. Jabbi predicted that the country will have a fully-fledged film industry in a decade whist calling on the public and all stakeholders to continue giving the needed support for the attainment of such a collective ambition which can be called ‘Gamnollywood’.

The producer of the film, Mr. Obi Omolonye said that the level of cooperation and support she received from Gambians has far exceeded his expectations. This, according to him, has helped him to make the best movie in his film-making career so far whilst warning that the success of a single film cannot ensure the establishment of a movie industry in the country.

He said: “I have been shooting films in many parts of the world but never have I received the kind of love and support I got from Gambians. This would not have been possible without the local logistical support we received to shoot the film. However, it will take more ‘Mirror Boys’ and ‘Mirrors Girls’ to establish the Gambian film industry. You must continue to strive hard to do more and also get all the support needed to achieve it.”

The CEO of OH records, Akin Salami, said he shared President Jammeh’s Pan-Africanist beliefs and the need for Africans to tell the African story rather than foreigners doing so in the negative tense.

He said that Africa has been subjected to a lot of negative publicity by the Western media, which he suggested has failed to properly acknowledge the enormous achievements of the people of African descent.

“Africans have achieved great things in the world. There are many Africans playing in the premier league doing great things. The President of the United States is the son of a black immigrant from Kenya,” he said.

He finally said that the film has garnered immense international interest, prompting invitations from different parts of the world like the United States, Europe and Asia.

I saw a trailer of this show last year (I think) on YouTube but they had different actors.

I used to ponder what was delaying their release but maybe they changed the cast or of course I might be mistaking two different shows.

I am curious as to how an African (Nigerian) family is going to be portrayed in a comedy skit over here in Britain. I just hope they do not pander to too many stereotypes as a means of gaining a cheap laugh all the same I wish them well. It certainly looks fresh judging from the trailer. smiley

Not too long ago in one of my conversations I inserted the word "tribe". It served to anger my recipient who berated me for using such language and then proceeded to give me a whole long lecture about how the UK (for example) which consists of English, Welsh, Irish etc are not referred to as mere "tribes". I resigned myself from that day on from employing that term hence I just use "ethnicity" in my attempt to be PC and so that I can avoid such a scenario from ever occurring again. However I did use to believe that "ethnicity" and "tribe" were both interchangeable - I guess I was wrong then.

@ OP clap for yourself. It's as if you're asking for an award for having dated women outside your ethnicity. Is it necessary to keep scores? huh

At the end of the day when any two people in Nigeria marry each other out of love and bear children that do not become groomed in ethnic bigotry or stereotypes that is "A Good Sign for Naija's Future".
The sole answer is not by having mongrels that have ingredients from various ethnic groups in the country but for people not to adhere to tribalism or stereotypes. It is possible to hail from a sole ethnic group without harboring malice for neighboring ethnics and that still brings "edification of the human race"

RomanceRe: Whats So Special About Tall, Dark And Handsome Men? by emofine(f): 1:09pm On Jun 16, 2011
vislabraye:
I'm quite curious cos if you ask a lot of ladies, they tell you they want tall, dark and handsome men.
I cannot speak for a large group of people however even though such criteria may be appealing in the mainstream I do not believe such qualifications resonates perfectly with everybody but in order to address the question posed I will indulge in that sentiment for a while.
Personally, why I feel some women may be attracted to these attributes in a man might be because it reflects strength - "tall" and "dark" connotes strength(physical), dominance etc. "Handsome" just completes and complements the whole package.

Does look really matter to women ? From a scale of 1 to 10 how would a lady rate looks ?
As for me I am more attracted to the spirit. Disposition is greater than the countenance in my opinion.  smiley
Beauty is only temporary so I will not be using such index as a requirement when seeking for a mate but of course it is a factor but not the deciding factor.

But i've also noticed that a lot of tall guys don't have the swagger ie, they're what you call klutz?  grin grin
Lol the taller you are the less gravity you have - I was an embodiment to this rule when I started my growth spurt  grin

***
A rather interesting topic might I add

on the other hand it's interesting that the desired traits in women oppose the set rule for men (at least in the mainstream). Light skin is heralded instead so in essence the connotations attached to the "desired" attributes for men may register still for a "tall", "dark" lady - thus some people label such women as "masculine" the opposite may also be found in light skin women vs men - I think.
