LiteratureRe: Many Nigerian Writers Are Good, But We Don't Read by emofine(f): 4:47pm On Jun 15, 2011
I am not sure if the claim is indeed correct however Nigerians have various means of translating stories either through frozen texts, orature even via Nollywood. Story telling is very integral in our society and yet even the least amongst us can weave a good tale which might not always be manifested through prose.
However I do believe that a large part of audiences that Nigerian authors hope to attract is beyond our own perimeters, the fact that many of our writers narrate their tale in english (one of the global languages) is evident of such.
Telling our story is not just about us having a platform or for only our people to be listeners, a good author will affect other people beside their own.

@ OP If I were you I wouldn’t take everything I see here at face value, some of the ring leaders of tribalism here have confessed to allegedly being part Igbo yet they be yabbing Igbos full time on here and vice versa

This na pantomine oo, the internet is a stage the sooner people become privy to it’s special script the better because not many people are serious here – it’s just comic relief

It’s as futile as taking Mr Cork’s tale as hardened truth no offeince  tongue

anywayz I sure as hell doubt that a great population on here who bash other peoples ethnicity will carry the same abrasive behaviour in person to their subject of ridicule

To be honest it would be nice to have a decent representation from various ethnics or at the very least the indigenous from each state but I believe these type of competition is not compatible or does not sit well with some of our fellow Nigerians hence they choose not to compete which is quite ironic and a little unfortunate due to the fact that many of those who abstain no be ordinary girls and organisers wouldn't even have to waste money applying pancake on their faces hmmm anyway don't mind me jare abeg biko carry go

RomanceRe: A Problem Of Beauty by emofine(f): 8:24pm On Jun 08, 2011
dankol:
@emofine, wat do u mean by a fresh eye, dat, i , , i dnt get it.
I mean that you are no longer laying your eyes upon such a person for the first time anymore. You are now used to the other person's look is what I meant that's why I suggested that probably you are no more stuck by their beauty. Let me use music as an analogy. When a particular type of music comes out there will be many people drawn to that music for a period. After a while after getting used to the music and having listened to that particular music for a very long time the sound is no more new to the listener and thus not as striking as before. I hope you understand my definition.

And as 4 your beauty hypothesis of true beaty remain beautiful. Wat do u say on acct of men who divorce dier 'once beautiful wives' nd now no more 2 dem.
Well having beauty is not a necessary factor in keeping a marriage together. What if the wife or husband has or develops an unattractive personality, what if the other spouse cheats etc

And as 4 your jamaica coleage, can we deduce dat U ARE IN LOVE.
I am not in love with my colleague - I am mot attracted (sexually) to a woman. I am a female by the way smiley

Since even afta a year your beaty hypothesis is stil effective on u. Note, i'm nt condermin d hypothesis mayb perhap, i av nt seen true beauty, or i av nt ben careful enof 2 discova d true beaty
Well it was more of a suggestion than a hypothesis that's why I said "perhaps". I doubt you have never seen beautiful people but I just suggested that maybe you become immune after a while after getting used to their look. I did not mean to even sound condescending when I said "true beauty". I used that term to highlight that a very beautiful person would still have that appeal regardless after being witnessed by the same beholder often times. I suppose there are degrees of beauty and an extremely stunning person will still be appealing no matter how long someone familiarizes themselves with such a persons reflection
I hope you understand now

Hi iam from east africa And i am here to learn more about west African culture, The food, what's the official language you all speak? I am here to learn so please if you don't wanna help don't mind answer this post, thanks.
hey welcome abu07  smiley

West Africa doesn't have a uniform culture even though there are a few similarities. West Africans do not have a single official language - our region is very diverse so I guess in order to facitilate your research you may want to study a few or a particular country in the region. If you want to find out more about one particular country then in order to have a decent sample I suggest you pick a Sahelian country coupled with a Coastal one and probably a few with different official languages.
However rice is a staple in all West African countries.
HealthRe: How Does One Overcome Addiction? by emofine(op): 6:53am On Jun 08, 2011
I actully meant any kind of addiction (Im trying to disect addiction as a whole)  that's why I proceeded to reel a few off to demonstrate how different they could be ranging from food to the internet even though primarily the reason why I engaged in this said topic was because of someone I know battling internet addiction.
I am seeking a kind of solution or a method to overcome such an addiction and not merely a replacement as I've underlined - I'm just curious as to what people in these situations do
do they meditate? pray? etc any suggestions smiley
RomanceRe: A Problem Of Beauty by emofine(f): 6:41am On Jun 08, 2011
lol op that's because you are not examining them with a fresh eye again, thus their "beauty" per se does not strike you as before - as you have become acquainted to their reflection which as a result has dulled your senses a bit.

However I must conclude that a "true" beauty will remain beautiful even after being witnessed by the same beholder several times but they also say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

This scenario has happened to me a few times but not all the time, after a year in my class I am still stunned by the beauty radiating from my Jamaican colleague  smiley
HealthHow Does One Overcome Addiction? by emofine(op): 6:44pm On Jun 07, 2011
I know a person that is quite dear to me, I do not even understand when or how this habit commenced - but I assumed we all have our quirks.
As for me I frequently consume indomie  embarassed, my other friend smokes (but that is a common occurrence in life) but my dear friend in particular who inspired me to create this topic is absolutely glued to the internet. I have also noticed that not everybody actually overcomes their addiction some only replace it

some have suggested prayers, some say counselling but hmmm I wonder

any ideas?  smiley

RomanceRe: A True Life Internet Love Story: Pls check story for daily updates. by emofine(f): 9:00am On Jun 06, 2011
Well Mr Ofuks what can I say, I am attracted to your writing but not so much your method but I however understand the intent.

Sir, let me ask you something:

if lady Amaka had indeed "passed" the "love test" would you then honestly believe in her conviction? is that how you evaluate "love"?

So if she had passed this unknowing "exam", supposing when she eventually finds out that it was but a "test" do you think she would have been relieved or pleased to have passed such an "assessment" she was ignorant of?

The internet gives cause to many illusions. I do not believe she "loved" you and I agree with you; I absolutely hate it when people carelessly brandish that word around without weighing the actual term albeit people manifest love in different ways. You were examining her "love" based on your principals and ideals - what if she just happened to be a slob or docile? a person does not necessarily have to be in "love" to pass such kind test oo and for those who do carry A + for such exams doesn't mean dey sabi better love

you may have "researched" her background but I think you both were just as clueless about each other

I actually sorry for the girl small, if you wanted to test the extent of her love by debasing your condition why not carry her for Ajegunle  tongue

it looks to me that in your effort you were punishing her small and you don suffer small in the process

anyway I must say this tale is absolutely gripping - I would love to be a character in your narrative. Maybe I can be Amaka's fairy Godmother who helps her to understand the true meaning of love  - I kid I kid  grin

but sir you must continue with the conclusion
