Splendidsun:Well, you right but in this context, I'm talking about full time imams. You can't be full and have lots more time for all other things. Being imam is not restricted to only offering salat. It includes marriage counseling and others. In New York, those paid imams, even though some of them have side career or job, they must have full time and be available for consultation. Some muslims come for learning things. Imam has to be available. So it is not all about just leading salat. Yes, they should have decent job on the side too. But if you want imam to be constantly available for salat, they have to be paid monthly. This is why Sheikh Sudais is paid too. Some of these imam in Nigeria have professional certificates but Nigeria doesn't recognize Islamic education. This is major setback. Also, masajid should have evening or afternoon class (tuition) headed by qualified imams. I just don't know Nigeria settings on this. But they should be paid if we want them to be available for our needs. As for the youths who claimed they are doing "Ise Alfa", they are simply lazy youths that need education and get out to look for job. |
IgweBUIKE1:I am sorry I have to comment on this thread. I personally believe it is the right move. You are very correct for saying: "what is the offering and seed they collect meant for?"Remember this question of yours only applies to Christian pastors. And I believe those pastors that are getting offerings should be exempted from this program. Most muslim imams do not get any kind of financial benefits from abled body. And voluntary donations by muslims are basically meant for upkeep of the mosques. Ways those imams make money SOMETIMES is through some activities like naming ceremony, Quran recitation and competition, Quran banquet or walimot, nikkah. These activities are seldom. They are not monthly. So imagine how do they eat and provide for their families? It is very hard. That's why you see some of them doing illegal activities. In Saudi Arabia and Iran, they take care of their imams and all those Muslims tasked to oversee upkeep of mosques. So Lagos initiative would gradually reduce illegal activities attached to religion so long as govt maintain properly. However this should not mean funding their pilgrimages. I won't support that. That been said, this should not be used to control them from speaking the truth. Here lies the problem. You can't give them monthly salary to silence them. This won't work either. So monthly salary should be extended to all the folks tasked to maintain religious houses. |

These companies left Nigeria as a result of harsh economic realities whereby successive governments encouraged importation, thereby weakening manufacturers break-evens in Nigeria. The companies are all coming back as a result of continuous and consistent policy gears that encourages made in Nigeria goods and services, strategic policy to ease the methods and operations of doing business in Nigeria. IGNORANCE IS TOO EXPENSIVE!!! By Jude Idada "Years ago he died. 24 years old at the time. He was doing his undergraduate degree at Oxford University in London. A brilliant mind from a polygamous home. His father had two wives. He was the only child of the senior wife. His father was a wealthy businessman and a medical doctor from Midwestern Nigeria with a thriving medical practice in Old Ikoyi. His father was actually a descendant of early Midwestern settlers in Lagos, who had emigrated to the city in the early 18th century. So although his father was the son of a Midwestern man and a Northern Nigeria lady, and a Muslim in religion, he was fluent in Yoruba, his native language, and Hausa. He also spoke a British accented English. And being an old boy of Kings College and a graduate of Oxford University, his father had ensured that his only son towed the same line. This was the early 80's. Before the boy in Oxford died, his mother, who was a full-blooded Hausa lady, an orphan, and a homemaker, had died 6 years earlier. In the same manner. At first, it started with complaints of some difficulty sleeping. And even when sleep came it was short and restless. Random movements, kicking, and somnambulism. There were complaints of stiffness twitching and spasms of the muscles in addition to profuse sweating. Then it worsened and worsened over weeks and years. Until there was a complete inability to sleep. After that came mental disorientation, loss of the ability to think or reason, coupled with a complete loss of all coordination. Then finally. Death. For his mother, it took 3 years from the start of her complaints unto death. For him, it took just over 5 years. He was 24 when he died. Having dropped out of Oxford, 2 years after he presented the first symptoms. When his mother died, the family had taken it as the will of Allah and buried her according to Muslim rites. But when the son started presenting the same symptoms and his father began to piece together the familiarity with what his senior wife had suffered, his concerns went into a gallop. Hospital after hospital couldn't figure it out. The whispers began. It was witchcraft. Fingers were pointed. The second wife who was a full-blooded Yoruba lady. A fellow Muslim. A pious one at that. A nurse. With a son and two daughters of her own for his father. Was to blame. She wanted to eliminate competition to the title of first son and inheritor of the estate. What was hush, hush became an open confrontation as the health of the boy in Oxford deteriorated. His father pleaded with his junior wife, who was fashionably loud and stealthy to save him. She pleaded her innocence. She was taken to Alfas and soothsayers, who routinely identified her as a witch and threatened her with unspeakable horrors if she did not confess and save the dying boy. She held tight to her plea of innocence. And when the boy finally died. In anger and sorrow. His father sent her packing and seized her children from her. He forbade them from seeing her. And they grew up believing that their mother was a murderous witch. Refusing every attempt she made at contacting them. Until one day, she had come to see them after school, and the three of them had rained expletives on her, calling her a witch in public. That was the last time they saw her. A broken woman crying as she ran down the road. They heard later, from an aunt, who had come to inform their father, that she took rat poison to end her misery. None of them went to her funeral. Then one day. When the children of the second wife were in their teens. The wealthy medical doctor, now older, called his children into his study. His eyes were misty. He begged for their forgiveness. As to how he had treated their mother. He then told them that he had found out a while ago, from an old in-law, that the mother of his late wife had also presented the same symptoms and suffered the same kind of death when his late wife was 5 years old and she was 31. And being that her husband was already dead, the 4 children of which his late wife was the youngest were distributed amongst relatives. One of which raised her to full adulthood as a nurse, where he had met her at a wedding party of a mutual acquaintance and proceeded to marry her after a brief courtship. He told his children as the sat listening to him in his study that when he found out about that fact, he realised that whatever must have killed them was hereditary. And upon an arduous investigation, he finally discovered the culprit when he read the findings of several decades long medical study by a group of doctors that was contained in a research paper, which was published in a peer-reviewed medical journal. A specific mutation in the gene for a normal protein called cellular prion protein. A mutation that occurs without explanation. And is passed down from mother to child. With a 100% probability that the child will suffer the disease anytime between their late 20's and early 70's and die 7 months to 6 years after the first symptoms appear. It has no cure. He told them as he sobbed that the disease is called "Fatal Familial Insomnia". They cried with him in his study that day out of guilt, shame and sorrow. For their ignorance and the indescribable pain, they had caused their late mother. And as her son, who was my classmate and now a doctor like his father, told me this story. He rounded up by saying with a heavy sigh. "The only witchcraft I know is ignorance and it robbed me of the love, care, nurture and guidance of my mother. Masha'Allah, I just pray she has forgiven us as she rests in Paradise, where I know she is." Toronto. Jude Idada July 2018 Lesson So father himself being a medical doctor was even ignorant of his profession. He may be excused due to inavailability of proper equipments back then. But then, a man of that status stooped so low. As for "Alfa" and soothsayer, they were simply looking for their daily bread. If they had died by now without being forgiven they are in hell of trouble. As for the other children, they still have hope. They did what they did in ignorance. Right time now to make tawbah and love what their mother loved. |
Fundamentalist:Well, i am not concerned about op's opinion of me. He's entitled to his opinion whatever he thinks i am. My concern is, can you provide evidence where i support them for cursing or abusing Albayt and sahaba?. I will like to see that please. I also will like for you to provide evidence where Allah forbids friendship and support for your fellow muslims?. In the Quran, we see many verses talk about brotherhood. Āyat al-Ukhuwah) is the tenth verse of the Quranic chapter "Al-Hujurat". The verse is about brotherhood of believers with each other; which says: "the believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy (49:10). The second view: Sorcery merely affected his externals and organs, not his heart, mind or intellect. The meaning of the verse is protection of heart and belief, not protection of the body from worldly accidents. This is the preference of Al-Qadi Iyyad11 and Ibn Hajar al-Haythami12. [The third view: What was reported — that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was charmed — is an unacceptable forgery. Rather, it was fabricated by the disbelievers. This is the position of the Mu’tazalites. It is the preference of al-Jassas, the Sunni scholar, who said: They alleged that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was charmed and sorcery worked upon him — such reports are fabricated by atheists to mock inferior people and to lead them to reject miracles of the Prophets and criticize them, and that there is no difference between miracles of Prophets and works of sorcerers and that they are the same. It is indeed strange that some combine belief in Prophets (peace be upon them) and their miracles and belief in works of sorcerers despite His saying, “And the magician thrives not (no matter) where he goes” (Holy Qur’an 20:69). So they believe the one whom God has belied and told about his forgery and incoherence of his claims.Their evidence is that saying that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was charmed, necessitates the following: 1. Degradation and criticism of miracles of Prophets (peace be upon them). 2. Confusion of miracles of Prophets (peace be upon them) with works of sorcerers. 3. Affirmation of the disbelievers’ claim : “Ye follow none other than a man bewitched” ( Holy Qur’an 25:8 ). People of Saleh said to him “Thou art only one of those bewitched” (Holy Qur’an 26:153) and people of Shu’aib said the same to him. 4. Prophets are not susceptible to sorcery because it contradicts God?s protection and immunity of them. They responded to the hadith of “Aisha” in which it is mentioned that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was charmed — that it is solely reported by Hisham ibn ‘Urwah on authority of his father from ‘Aisha, and that he was confused about it. |
The Muslim scholars hold three views with regard to this incident: The first view: The sorcery whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) was exposed to is merely a usual disease and a transient illness, this is possible in regard to the Prophets as is to any human being. It does not disprove prophethood or disturb the message or revelation. God the Exalted protected His Prophet from whatever interferes with the mission of conveying the message and from being killed, not from transient physical diseases. This is the view of Al-Maziri1, Ibn Al-Qayyim, Al-‘Aini2, As-Sindi3 and Ibn Bazz45. Al-Qadi Iyyad explained it saying: [ i]In regard to what was reported that he used to think that he did a thing while he did not, it does not interfere with his delivery of the Message or the Law nor does it undermine his truthfulness due to the evident proof and consensus of his protection from this. This was merely a worldly matter that has nothing to do with his Mission or rank, and he is exposed to it as any other human being. So, it is not impossible for him to imagine unreal things, then find out what they really are. It is not reported regarding this event anything other than what he said about doing something that he really did not. It was merely imagination.[/i]Ibn-ul-Qayyim said: Sorcery that affected the Prophet (peace be upon him) was a transient disease that Allah cured him from. There is nothing defective about it for all Prophets are exposed to illness as well as fainting; he (peace be upon him) fainted during his illness7, fell down when his leg loosened and was bruised8. This is affliction by which Prophets increase in rank and degree. Most afflicted people are the Prophets; they were afflicted with killing, hurt, abuse and imprisonment, so it is not new for the Prophet (peace be upon him) to be afflicted with some sorcery from his enemies as he was bruised when someone stoned him and as animal bowels were thrown on him during his prostration9 and other incidents. There is nothing undermining or disgraceful about it, on the contrary, it indicates their perfection and high rank before God. |

lilfreezy:This "Polls" show that Nigerians are their worst problems. What's Atiku gonna do different? I am sorry, i don't see any credible presidential contenders in 2019 besides Buhari. The only thing that gives me concern about him is his old age and health. I also wish to see young president like Sowore. But i prefer he should allow Buhari to run 2nd term while he builds his political career in the next 4yrs bcus Sowore can not win against those thief politicians. Apart from that, Sowore has business in New York, and he knows better that if he decides to make certain moves to better nigeria and his moves don't go down well with the world powers, his business is in jeopardy. And I am sure he doesnt want to lose his business. Therefore, Sowore is vulnerable and may end up being a dump president and Nigerians will be disappointed. But voting Atiku is just like recycling old trash. Let Buhari be the seal of these old politicians. |
Question: One of the Ayat discussing people who have focused on materialistic aspects of life is “Surely We have created many of the jinn and mankind for Hell. They have hearts wherewith they understand not… etc.” (7:179). I have a question regarding the fact that the Ayah mentions ‘we have created many of the jinn and mankind for Hell’, does this indicate most people were created for hell, may you please enlighten me on this Ayah? Answer: The main and real purpose of the creation is the demonstration of divine Mercy as stated in Surah 11 Ayah 111: الا من رحم ربک و لذلک خلقهم which is eternity in Heaven and all its bliss. The path to that is servitude to God which is mentioned as another purpose of creation in Surah 51 Ayah 56: و ما خلقت الجن و الانس الا لیعبدون However, the Almighty God due to His eternal wisdom knows that because of the free will He has bestowed upon man and the Jinn, some of them will not choose the path of worshipping to gain Paradise. But because the law of ‘freewill’ also is a divine law, it is correct to say what God has said in Surah 7, Ayah 179, that He has created them for Hell. Note the reason they are hell bound is also mentioned in the Ayah that they had eyes, ears and heart, so the means of prosperity wasgiven to them but they abused them until they lost them and as such end up in Hell. Therefore, it is correct to say they are created for Hell (as God knows the destination they choose) but God is not responsible for their wrong choice. All similar Ayaat that sound like ‘Allah guides and misguides’, must be understood in the sense that ‘God guides’ meaning provides facilities for guidance, and misguides meaning He has created a law that abusing facilities leads to going astray. Question: Christianity teaches that mankind is sinful by nature, and so they need the crucifixion as a way to clear humans of their sins. In Islam, do we believe that humans are sinful by nature aswell? Answer: The notion of the liability of all humans – including the prophets – to sin and error in Judo-Christian theology is driven from the concept of the original sin related to Adam and Eve, and inherited genetically to all mankind. The Old Testament unqualifiedly declared man`s native impulse to be evil. (Gen. 6, 5 ; 8, 21) The crucifixion of Jesus in Christian doctrine is a ramification of human sinful nature. Thus, when you converse with them they sometimes ask you what your vice is, as if it is taken for granted that everyone must have vice or else they are not human. Their argument can be formulated as follows: – All humans by nature are sinful and exposed to the temptation to sin. – Prophets are humans. – Prophets are sinful and exposed to sins. The thorough discussion about human nature with regards to sin must be discussed in the philosophy of ethics. Nonetheless, in a nutshell, from the Islamic perspective man is created pure and without a sinful nature. Man by nature only recognizes and enjoys the good. Evil is against his nature. Thus, ‘good` in the Quran is referred to as ‘al-Ma`roof’, meaning something known and recognized by human nature. On the other hand, ‘bad` and ‘evil` is introduced as ‘al-Monkar`, meaning something which is unknown and strange for the human soul. This concept is brilliantly illustrated in the following story: Waabeseh ibn Ma`bad al-Asadi, one of the companions of the Prophet of Islam (s) narrates: I went to the Messenger of God to ask him about virtue (al-Birr) and vice (al-Ithm). Before I started, the Prophet (peace be on him and his progeny) said to me: “ O Wabeseh! Do you want to ask your question or you want me to answer it?” “Please answer it then, O Messenger of God”, I surprisingly replied. The Prophet said: “You came to ask me about ‘virtue` and ‘vice`, is it not?” “Yes, O Messenger of God”, I replied. The Prophet then stroked his chest with his hand and said: “Vice is what your heart doesn`t accept. Virtue is what your heart rests on. If people give you any other opinion on this, you ask your own heart for its (natural and healthy) verdict.”[6] The Prophet`s answer is the most natural and logical way of addressing this theological question. As a healthy human I trust you admit the fact that any time you do something good, you naturally enjoy it and feel proud of yourself. Whereas, when you even think about committing a sin, you feel uncomfortable and wish not to. In short, the Islamic perspective is that it is natural not to desire to commit a sin, and hence every human enjoys certain levels of infallibility. If ‘vice` is part of human nature, then all the moral teachings of the Prophet are a call to change human nature. Thus, one needs to be psychologically abnormal to follow any of the moral values. The infallibility of the Prophets by contrast proves that man (though a perfect man) can become immune from all types of sins and all various satanic temptations.
