The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has halted the distribution of fez caps and branded materials promoting the candidacy of President Muhammadu Buhari for the 2019 election.

He gave the notice, yesterday, during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

But the Minister of Communication and staunch Buhari loyalist, Adebayo Shittu, appeared at the meeting in a fez cap with the inscription: ‘Continuity ‘19 – Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo’.

At the end of the meeting, however, some of the members filed out of the Council Chambers with the caps carefully stowed away in their bags, apparently to avoid the prying eyes of reporters or possible backlash by a section of Nigerians.

The SGF had ordered that the materials must not be distributed, saying it was not yet time for campaign.

It was learnt that some of the caps already distributed were retrieved before the end of the meeting.

Shittu later explained to reporters: “The cap is for politics. It is not for the Federal Executive Council deliberations. The caps have been distributed to all members of FEC. It is a sample for any other person who is interested in doing what we have done. I know everybody will be involved. Everybody will be guided. People will take decision to support General Buhari in the 2019 elections.”

2019 election account

Lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, has raised the alarm over alleged operation of a secret account by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and other joint venture companies.

Melaye, who raised a point of order at the plenary on Tuesday, alleged that the account, which was supposed to be domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria, was with Keystone Bank, had no Bank Verification Number and had a balance of $137m as of today (Tuesday).

He said, “While some individuals and government appointees will continue to steal, we have decided to continue to expose corruption in public life.

“This morning, I call the attention of the Nigerian Senate to a suspected, colossal, monumental corruption in NNPC.

“A company was registered with the name ‘Brass LNG Limited’ with the Federal Government having controlling shares.

“We have some Italians, Belgians and French as shareholders, with the Federal Government with a controlling share of about 50 per cent.


“It is a known fact that once you have a joint venture, the account of such joint venture will be domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“But in this case, that was not what happened. In private, the account was opened with Keystone Bank; this account has no BVN and there has been periodic withdrawals (from it).

“The last withdrawal from the account was to the tune of $4m. As I speak to you, the balance of that account as of today is $137m.”

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, sought the permission of the lawmakers to allow Melaye to bring the matter up as a motion at the next legislative day, which was unanimously granted.

Melaye was asked to move the motion on Wednesday (today)

The Katsina State Government has increased the welfare budget for National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state by about 200 per cent.
Alhaji Aminu Ibrahim, the chairman of NYSC Katsina State Governing Board, disclosed this on Thursday at the formal opening ceremony of the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream orientation course in Katsina.
2,200 corps members were deployed to Katsina state for the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream II.
Ibrahim, who represented Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina state at the orientation course, is also the Special Adviser to the governor on Youths Development.
Masari said his administration would ensure provisions were made for the welfare of corps members to enable them to enjoy their stay in the state.
He promised to provide adequate security to the corps members deployed to the state.
The governor noted that the choice of Katsina as hosting camp for Borno and Katsina States was no doubt predicated on the antecedents of Katsina as a hospitable and accommodating state.
He urged all security operatives to ensure maximum security at the camp and throughout the time of the corps members’ primary assignment
