PoliticsHold Okorocha Responsible For Deaths In Eke Ukwu Market – Pdp by engineerboat(op): 7:48am On Aug 28, 2017
PRESS STATEMENT

August 27, 2017.

HOLD OKOROCHA RESPONSIBLE FOR DEATHS IN EKE UKWU MARKET – PDP

1. We condemn the Forceful Demolition of the Popular Eke Ukwu Market and violent eviction of traders in Owerri by the Imo State Government using men of the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies during which three (3) people including a 10 year old child were extra-judicially murdered and several other people were injured.

2. This violent eviction is all the more condemnable because it was carried out in violation of a pending Order granted by an Imo State High Court restraining the Imo State Government from demolishing the Market and Evicting the Traders.

3. This action, sadly, follows a pattern of the Use of the Apparatus of State Security to forcefully and violently carry out evictions of ordinary Nigerians from valuable property in blatant violation of Court Orders. Not very long ago, the Lagos State Government ordered the Forceful Eviction of indigent Nigerians from waterfront properties to enable it enter into joint venture agreements for the Construction of luxury apartments. Like the Owerri incident, this eviction led to the deaths of at least two (2) people and the Injury of several others, including women and children.

4. As much as we acknowledge the deals of Development and the Construction of critical infrastructure, these ideals must be pursued within the confines of respect for the Rule of Law as well as in a humane manner that preserves the dignity of indigent Nigerians while giving them viable and affordable alternatives regarding where to live, grow and trade.

5. Unfortunately, the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not recognise such valuable ideals and as such, continues to design, promote and pursue anti-people policies.

6. We call for the Immediate Investigation of these extra-judicial murders and for the Culprits to be brought to book. Only such an action will give justice to the Dead and discourage the Use of the Police and other security agencies as tools fo further oppression of ordinary Nigerians.

7. May God rest the dead.

Signed:

Prince Dayo Adeyeye
National Publicity Secretary

PoliticsRodents Forced President Buhari To Work From Home – Aide by engineerboat(op): 2:38am On Aug 23, 2017
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will work from home after rodents damaged his official office during a more than 100-day overseas medical absence, a presidential spokesman told AFP Tuesday.

The animals damaged furniture and air conditioning fittings in the president’s official Abuja office while he was in London receiving treatment, his media adviser Garba Shehu confirmed.

“These are also general works and it is not uncommon for Nigerian presidents to also work from the presidential villa. He has used the residential office for many years,” said Shehu.

“What is important is that the job gets done. Whether he does it from his bedroom or his sitting room or his anteroom — it does not matter. Let the job be done. And the job will be done,” Shehu told the Arise News broadcaster.

Shehu was unable to confirm what type of rodent was responsible for the damage, which occurred during the president’s prolonged absence for an undisclosed medical condition.

“I do not have that level of detail,” he said, adding that it was unclear how long the refurbishment would last.

During his time away, tensions surfaced back home, where calls grew for him to either return or resign.

The Nigerian leader met with his security chiefs at his official residence on Tuesday, ordering them to deal with threats to the unity of the country.

In the weeks before Buhari left for London on May 7, he also worked from the presidential residence — missing cabinet meetings and having official documents transported to him.

Rumours about his health have dogged Buhari even before he came to power in May 2015. He rejected claims during the election that he was critically ill from prostate cancer.

Buhari did not address his absence or medical situation when he addressed the nation on television on Monday, instead talking about separatism, crime, terrorism and the economy in his first speech since returning.

In an official letter to parliament on Monday relieving Vice President Yemi Osinbajo of his duties as acting head of state, Buhari described his trip as a “medical follow-up”.

Clashes between protesters calling on Buhari to return from his recent lengthy absence and the presidents’ defenders erupted in Abuja last week.

He first travelled to London in June last year for what aides said was a persistent inner ear infection, returning in January for check-ups, according to his office.

The health of Nigeria’s president is a sensitive issue. President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua died in office in 2010 from a long-standing, but previously undisclosed, kidney complaint.

PoliticsPresident Buhari Is Working From Home, Renovations Ongoing At President’s Office by engineerboat(op): 1:58pm On Aug 21, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari, who resumed on Monday after a three-month medical vacation, is working from home.

A presidential source disclosed this to TheCable but attributed the development to some renovations at the president’s office.

The president had earlier signed a letter he wrote to notify the national assembly of his resumption.

Abba Kyari, his chief of staff, witnessed the signing of the letter.

Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, also issued a statement to inform the public of the letter.

“In line with constitutional provision, President Muhammadu Buhari has written the national assembly, notifying the legislature of his return to office, after returning from medical vacation in London,” the statement read.

“President Buhari had returned to the country on Saturday, August 19, 2017, and in a letter dated August 21, 2017, he told the Senate as well as the House of Representatives, that he was resuming office.

“The letter stated in part: ‘In compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), I write to intimate that I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday, 21st August, 2017, after my medical follow-up in the United Kingdom’.

“President Buhari had left for London on May 7, 2017, and handed the reins of government to the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, who functioned as the Acting President.”

Following the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari in Nigeria from a medical vacation in the United Kingdom, Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi has charged the ruling party to stop the blame game and focus on governance.

In a chat with Vanguard Saturday, Makarfi said the PDP has always wish the President well, noting that having return, the buck passing game should now give way to governance.

“We are glad he is back home. The official position of the PDP has been to pray for his quick and full recovery and to return home. Now that he is back, there should be no more buck passing within the government,” he said.

Meanwhile former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the PDP, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode said the resilience of protesters eventually forced the hand of President Buhari to return home after spending 105 days in London.

Reacting to President Buhari’s arrival yesterday, the ex- Minister commended the Charly Boy-led #OurMumuDonDo movement saying their offshore campaign in London, forced the President to change his mind to return home.

“I commend the efforts of the #ResumeorResign group for chasing Muhammadu Buhari out of the United Kingdom after one night of protest outside Abuja House in London,” he wrote on his Twitter Handle.
