THE Defence Headquarters, Friday, declared that it does not know the whereabouts of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The DHQ which said contrary to some reports,it did not raid the IPOB leader’s home, said it was not the place of the military to declare Kanu wanted.

The DHQ equally explained that it was constrained to move a special military operations against the dreaded herdsmen because they were neither visible nor carry out their activities under an open or known group.

Director of Defence Information, Major General John Enenche, who addressed the media at the Defence Headquarters, denied that Nnamdi Kanu was in military custody.

” Nnamdi Kanu is not in the custody of the military,”he declared. On whether the military would declare Kanu wanted since his whereabouts is unknown, Enenche said:”It is not the responsibility of the military to declare Nnamdi Kanu wanted.” Enenche also said contrary to reports in some quarters, the military did not proscribed IPOB, just as he said due process was followed in the group’s proscription. “The military did not proscribe IPOB. Due process was followed to proscribe it.

The job of the military was to diagnose security issues and warned the public of consequences and that is part of our media operations. “We did our media operations very well, otherwise that weekend would have been the longest weekend in this country and we are also very careful choosing our words and we know the law very well, “he added. He also denied that the military troops on Operation Python Dance raided Kanu’s home.

Hear him:” Nobody raided Kanu’s home and I stand to be justified, not from the information I got. I was watching it live, I was monitoring it live and also speaking with them on the ground. “The people that came out there that I saw were the Biafra security service and Biafra National Guard. ”

I think I later confirmed that there was nothing to actually justify them legally to mount roadblocks. I saw the militancy, nobody told me and I saw the action there. We are still investigating.” He spoke on the post military operations in the South East thus:”For the past couple of days since the operation started, the feedback I have been getting from that place is that yes, they are happy.

But now, they have a lot of relief. “We have our sources of information as information outfits of the armed forces. We also get information from the general public using our own sources as a form of checks and balances.” Enenche said the country was not militarized contrary to the position of some people. “Other countries passed through this, if you go into history, before getting to where they are as developed countries today. “Like in China, you see one policeman inside a car, you hardly see a military man outside and it depends on the developmental process and what you passed through.

“That’s why in simple terms, I will tell you that we are not alarmed at all. “For example, the last terrorist attack in the UK, 24 hours after the attack, the government asked the military to take over the area. ” If the UK government can tell the military to take over, to back up the Police, I think we are just about 100 years old of amalgamation and we about 57 years old, it’s not out of place, “he stressed. He expressed disappointment over the position of some legal practitioners on military involvement in the IPOD issue just as h said some of them got it right in his assessment of various contributions to the issue.

“Of course, there will be competing demands on who is to do what by the military, the executive, the legislature they are all arms of the government and they all have responsibilities,”he said.

”The statement that came through me is not at par at all with what the Chief of Army Staff came out to clarify. People had mindset and they were In a hurry to attack the military because of their mindset and because of that it is a pity to say that somehow some people lost their reputation,”he clarified. He said the various operations and exercises under the Defence Headquarters were being sustained in the North East, North West, North Central, South West, South South and South Eastern parts of Nigeria. He also said troops of Operation RESTORE DEMOCRACY in the Gambia have been rotated. ”The contingent earned the operational medal, due to their outstanding performance. A new set has been inducted into the mission (ECOMIG).

The Defence Headquarters, according to Enenche,” reaffirmed the unalloyed loyalty of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari.” It also reaffirmed “total subordination of the Nigerian Military to constituted civil authorities,complete dedication of the military to its constitutional roles as well as dedication of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the protection of lives and property of all peace loving people where ever they live in Nigeria.

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has reacted to the arrest of two of his top officials by the anti-graft agency, EFCC.
PREMIUM TIMES reported the arrest of the Ekiti commissioner of finance, Toyin Ojo, and the accountant general, Yemisi Owolabi, by the EFCC on Thursday.

“They were picked up today following their refusal to honour previous invitations for interrogation in relation to pending investigation on the misuse of bail out funds by the Ayodele Fayose administration,” an EFCC spokesperson said in an email to PREMIUM TIMES.

In his response, the governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, blamed the arrest on aides of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“It is obvious that the hawks around President Muhammadu Buhari are afraid of Governor Ayodele Fayose’s declaration to contest the presidential election in 2019,” Mr. Olayinka said.

Ekiti State Government has described the arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of the State Commissioner for Finance, Toyin Ojo and the Accountant General, Yemisi Owolabi, as a further demonstration of the anti-corruption agency’s irresponsibility, saying; “The EFCC is obviously living up to its
status as the attack-dog of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, but Ekiti State government under Governor Ayodele Fayose cannot be intimidated.”

Special Assistant to the State Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement issued on Thursday that “it is obvious that the hawks around President Muhammadu Buhari are
afraid of Governor Ayodele Fayose’s declaration to contest the presidential election in 2019, hence the usual panicky measure of arresting government officials in Ekiti on the day of his declaration, with the view to embark on another round of media trial against the governor and his government.”

The government said “it is funny that the EFCC, in the bid to carry out its usual hatchet job against Governor Fayose, failed to take into cognisance the subsisting court order, which forbids any official of the Ekiti State government from being arrested by the EFCC. Up till today, the court order has not been appealed and it subsists.”

The government challenged the EFCC to tell Nigerians what has been done to the loads of petitions written against the immediate past APC government of Kayode Fayemi, asking; “What has the EFCC done to those involved in the grass-cutting scam and the $43 million Ikoyi scam?”

The government said; “It is so funny and laughable that these characters in the APC government can’t even disappoint for once by being unpredictable.

“Like we have said before, the game plan of those who want power in Ekiti State by force as well as those who do not want anyone to speak against President Buhari, that they see as a god, is to stifle Ekiti State government and make it impossible for the government to carry out its responsibilities.


“However, the EFCC and its collaborators should know that we have threaded this path before and we, in the government of Ekiti State won’t be intimidated by the irresponsibility of a federal government anti-corruption agency that has come to see itself as instrument of harassing, oppressing, intimidating and coercing perceived opposition figures.

“On this one, let us tell these agents of the devil in the EFCC and those they are working for that as usual, they have taken on a wrong customer. This is because the more they run after Governor Fayose, the more they hit their heads on the Rock of Ages and get themselves fatally injured.”

Strike continue JOHESU


All Federal Health Institution activities grounded.

The meeting between the federal government and striking members of the Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, which held between Tuesday and Wednesday has failed to resolve the crisis.

The leaders of various unions who convened at the meeting held in Abuja to review the negotiation between the parties did not concede to the appeal made by federal government’s negotiation team led by Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, to end the strike.

Ahead of the meeting, Mr. Ngige had accused the union of not following procedure before they began their nationwide strike.

The minister who called the reconciliation meeting said the union neglected to give the government a 14-day notice required by law.

While the union said the strike will continue; it, however, urged its counterparts in the state who had billed to join the industrial action on Thursday to hold for now.

Biobelemoye Josiah, JOHESU National Chairman and Ekpebor Florence, JOHESU National Secretary in a joint statement, Thursday, conveyed the resolution of the union.

“As a result of the ongoing negotiation between JOHESU and the Federal Government, the leadership of JOHESU wishes to inform all members that negotiation is ongoing and the strike continues nationwide in all federal health institutions and further directives will be given after meeting with Federal Government on Saturday, 30th, September, 2017.

“In the light of the above, state councils are further directed to put on hold the commencement of their strike initially billed for Thursday, 28th of September, 2017 due to the ongoing talks”, the statement read.

JOHESU had on Wednesday last week insisted on going on strike over the alleged failure of the federal government to meet its demands.

The Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, had pleaded with the association not to embark on strike; but it ignored the plea as the strike commenced in the early hours of Thursday.

The members of the union are hospital workers apart from medical doctors.

In compliance with the declaration of an indefinite strike by JOHESU, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM directed its members to stay away from all federal health institutions across the country.

Meanwhile, checks have revealed that private hospitals, mission homes and traditional birth attendants in across the country are recording tremendous increase in patronage following the on-going nationwide strike by the health workers.

THE Federal Government has pulled out from 90 international bodies so as to be able to meet up with its obligations, Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun has said.

The decision according to the Minister was reached at the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting on Wednesday. The Minister further stated that the country spends $70 million every year as a member of 310 international organizations, adding that it had not been meeting up with its obligations.

She said that a committee has been set up to consider the organizations the country was exiting from and the committee is expected to submit its report within two weeks.

She also said that the committee will prioritise the organisation the country will remain as members. Details later

What this government needs to do is to restructure and this matter should not be handled by the APC. It should not be a party affair.

Having said that, I am not promoting IPOB, but Buhari should lead Nigeria with equity and justice.
