APC and Loan, na 5&6 |
The governorship candidate of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) On Thursday clashed over sources of campaigns for the APC and how Governor Godwin Obaseki got the ticket of the PDP. The Campaign Organization of Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu in a statement by its Director of Communication and Media, John Mayaki challenged Obaseki to confess the number of dollars he allegedly paid the PDP in exchange for the party’s ticket instead of distracting the people of Edo State with a screening of videos involving Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano State. He said: “It is unfortunate that Mr. Godwin Obaseki has continued in his irresponsible ways, chief of which includes the abuse of office and utilization of state purse and agencies to pursue personal ambitions. “This irresponsibility and desperation flout all the principles of decorum, decency, and honesty enshrined and expected of a gubernatorial personality. It shows, clearly, Obaseki’s lack of character and good spirit. As an aspirant seeking a second-term return, Obaseki further casts himself in the negative light with this thoughtless act.” But the PDP has accused the APC of plotting to secure a $500m loan from the NEXIM bank to prosecute the 2020 governorship election. A statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chris Nehikhare said the sum “we are informed will be converted to a loan and the burden of repayment placed on Edo people. Let us be clear on one thing, APC has only one goal, and that goal is not fighting corruption. It is advancing its cause. “Investigations reveal that the APC National Campaign Council in collaboration with a director in NEXIM bank have perfected plans to deplete our common patrimony by drawing down $500m to prosecute the Edo election. This unholy arrangement is absurd, illegal and criminal and must be condemned by all.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/07/edo-2020-apc-pdp-candidate-clash-over-campaigns-ticket/ mynd44 and oam4j please Fp |
Ahead of its June 22 Governorship Primary Election in Edo state, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, explained how it would manoeuvre its ways around the COVID-19 gazette put in place by Gov. Godwin Obaseki which prohibits gatherings of more than 20 persons. The party has also inaugurated its Primary Election as well as Appeal Committees. National Vice Chairman, South South, Ntufam Hillard Etagbo Eta who inaugurated the committees with a host of other members of the National Working Committee NWC said he was standing in for the acting National Chairman, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi. He urged the committees to ensure a credible exercise. While Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state chairs the Primary Election Committee, Prof. Mustapha Bello would serve as the Chairman of the Appeal Committee for the primary election. Members of the primary election committee are Sen. Ajibola Bashiru (Secretary), Alhaji Abdullahi Abass, Hon. Ibrahim Sabo, Hon. Ocho Obioma, Hajia Amina Lantana Muhammed, and Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye. Other members of the Primary Election Appeal Committee are Dr. Kayode Ajulo (Secretary), Hon. Umar Ahmed, Nasiru Ibrahim Junju and Hon. Rasaq Mahmud Bamu. Addressing the committees, Eta recalled how the party had commenced the process of the Edo primaries with the inauguration of Screening and the Appeal Committees. He said; “So, we are almost at the culmination of that process. It is with deep humility that I want to announce to Nigerians that those we have selected to do this onerous and herculean job for the party were carefully selected, some of the finest and best amongst us. “Their job is very simple – to carry out the process of selecting the flag bearer of the party in Edo State and we know that after that exercise, there may be concerns, disagreements, that is why we have constituted members of the APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee. “Having done the most important part of this ceremony, let me at this juncture inaugurate these two Commitees with the powers that have been conferred on me by the very generous members of the National Working Committee NWC who chosed His Excellency, Sen. Ajimobi on whose behalf, I perform this function”. Conducting Primaries Speaking with journalists shortly after the inauguration, Gov. Uzodinma explained how the party would conduct the June 22 primary election. He said; “In their wisdom, I have been appointed to chair the committee to conduct the primaries. I have been given the guidelines to drive the exercise. You are aware there is also a global pandemic, Covid-19 and there are some local legislations in Edo state. “There is a law that does not allow more than 20 people to gather at a place. That is the beauty of Direct Primary. “When we get to Edo, we will deploy the necessary manpower to the various polling units with instructions that will not violate the local legislations that will enable our members not to gather more than 20 people at a place and by so doing, with a segmented approach, we will conduct a free and fair primary and our party will be happy with that”. Why APC is in crisis? Uzodinma also urged party stakeholders to continue to work hard for its success, noting that APC is today dealing with several issues because of those who are envious of its electoral success. He said; “I want to thank Almighty God even when I know that this is coming at a time that our party is greatly challenged by some handiworks of our enemies and those who think the party has grown into national envy. “I want to assure the leadership of the party and indeed the entire membership in the country that we will go and do justice to this assignment and we will not disappoint all reasonable expectations. “I want to remind all of us that APC is the party to beat anywhere in Nigeria. The party is growing from strength to strength on daily basis. The tendency for people to become envious and in the process want to create distraction has also become very high but we must rise to the occasion to do just all that will make our party be what the people expect. We will resolve our crisis. “Events of the past few days have shown that some people are after us and we must buckle our seat belts. We will face the turbulence but I’m confident that our aircraft will get to the destination. We must field a candidate and our party must be ran by those elected to run the party by us. And by the Grace of God, we will win the election in Edo. “The purpose of disagreement is to agree. As we are trying to disagree in our great party, we are disagreeing to agree. It therefore goes to show that the party is growing from strength to strength. “All the internal disagreements, the party Constitution is fashioned in a manner that it has provided for ways and means of resolving these disagreements, and this one that has just happened a couple of days ago will not be an exception. “I think in our usual manner, working with the party leadership, we will resolve all areas of disagreement and we will all be united together and stronger to go into the election in Edo state”. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/06/edo-2020-we-will-obey-obasekis-covid-19-gazette-in-conducting-primary-―-apc/ |
THE Ondo state government Thursday described as untrue and mischievous the report that there were jubilations in the state over court verdict that suspended the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole. Information and Orientation Commissioner Donald Ojogo said this in Akure at a press conference. Ojogo said ” Every well-meaning member of the party was concerned when the Appeal Court gave its verdict. “The level of concern may vary but as leaders and members of APC in Ondo State we were greatly concerned not because of any personal reason but because we felt that the party didn’t need whatever intrigues that may shake the table at this point in time. ” So, like every other member of the party nationwide, we were all concerned. ” We found very shocking when a news item that was promoted in one of these platforms saying that supporters of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu were jubilating over the decision of the appeal court. “We have resolved that we must put the record straight. We are coming to this point not because we’re rattled by the report but we see it as a very untoward part and it is a trajectory we must stop from flourishing. “The author of that report in all intents and purposes wanted to create an unexisting frosty relationship between Mr Governor and the leadership of the APC. “By every standard and by every yardstick that could be deployed to measure anything, Mr Governor is the leader of the party and as such, he will be so disturbed if there are crisis in the party. ” So, that report we found very very unpleasant. We saw the report as product of a willful machination by an unimportant journalist. That is if at all he is a journalist. “We need to put the record straight because unsuspecting public. Not everybody in the public will be so enlightened to know that, that particular report was a hatchet job created by those who believed that they must create problems within the rank and file of the party. “It was masterminded clearly by those who believe that the very cordial relationship between Mr. Governor and the leaders of the party, whether at the state level here or at the national level will not serve their interest properly. “That report was utterly mischievous, it’s non- existent and shows how shallow somebody might want to appear using a credible platform. The commissioner added that “we would have to come out without hesitation to clearly state when some miscreants will want to hide under credible platforms to dish out their personal sentiments against the people of the state and against government and that is the reason we felt we must come out to dispel this story”. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/06/sack-of-oshiomhole-ondo-govt-denies-jubilation-in-state-over-verdict/ |

ABUJA: The leadership crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress APC turned melodramatic on Wednesday when three persons emerged as acting National Chairman within three hours. Relying on Section 14(2)(iii) of the APC Constitution 2014 (as amended) the National Working Committee NWC of the party had named the Deputy National Chairman, South, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi as acting National Chairman, but it was not until Wednesday morning that a statement credited to him emerged, indicating that he had assumed office by that morning. Section 14(2) of the APC Constitution (2014 as amended) stipulates the duties of a Deputy National Chairman of the party among which is to assist the National Chairman in the discharge of his duties. In Section 14(2)(iii), the constitution states that, “the Deputy National Chairman shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone”. On Wednesday morning, Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy to the former Oyo State Governor, Bolaji Tunji said his principal had assumed the reins of leadership in the aftermath of the order of the Court of Appeal affirming the suspension of the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. Giadom names self Ag. National Chairman Barely an hour later, Deputy National Secretary of the party, Chief Victor Giadom announced a take over of party affairs, declaring as invalid, all processes which led to the disqualification of Gov. Godwin Obaseki from the June 22 APC primary election in Edo state. READ ALSO: Giadom Announces Take Over Of APC Nullifies Edo APC Screening Giadom who arrived the secretariat at about 10am with a retinue of security aides premised his action on Tuesday’s judgment of the Court of Appeal which affirmed the suspension of Comrade Oshiomohle as the National Chairman of APC. He was flanked by the Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the party, Muhammad Sani Ibrahim, a non-member of the NWC who has been seeking to oust the National Organizing Secretary, Emma Ibediro. Security agents had earlier taken charge of the secretariat gate, screening staff, journalists and visitors going into the premises. Hours later, security was relaxed following the announcement of Eta by the NWC. Giadom said; “Consequently, I bring to your notice that on the 16th of March 2020, Hon Justice S.U. Bature in suit no FCT/HC/M/6447/2020 had ordered that, with the earlier suspension of Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomohle, I Chief. Hon Victor Giadom should act as National Chairman of our great party. That Order could not be immediately effected at that time because of the temporary reprieve Adams Oshiomohle got from the Court of Appeal on the same date. However, having removed the temporary reprieve yesterday by the Court of Appeal and considering the fact that we cannot allow for a vaacum, I most humbly inform you that I have assumed office as Acting National Chairman of our great party in compliance with the order of the Court. “I, therefore, most humbly solicit the support of the entire leadership and members of our great party in achieving this very important responsibility. I want to assure all party members that the All Progressives Congress will obey court orders/judgements as to bring sanity to our great party. Time for selective compliance of Court Orders and judgements is over. Invalidates Edo Guber screening “Our party, the All Progressives Congress, will no longer allow local quests for the control of power to influence our decisions. As your Acting National Chairman and presiding officer in the NWC, we, therefore, cancel the decision of the Screening and Appeal Committees of the former Chairman of the party on the Edo primaries. This is in strict compliance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that forbids anyone who is interested in a cause to be a judge in that same cause. Asks aspirants to report for fresh screening “It is a brazen rape on the Rule of Law and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the former Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshlomohle to preside and select Committees in respect to the Governorship primaries in Edo State being a key player in the crisis in that State. Whatever role the former Chairman was given to play in that process by the APC Constitution, it cannot override the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which governs all of us. We, therefore, ask all Aspirants in the Governorship Primaries to report for fresh screening between today and tomorrow. I call on all aspirants to remain in the All Progressives Congress as we guarantee fairness and justice to all concerned. The schedule and time for each aspirant shall be communicated. “In addition to the above, the Deputy Organising Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, Hon. Muhammad Sani Ibrahim shall immediately resume office as the Acting National Organizing Secretary in compliance with the judgement of the Federal High Court in suit no: FHC/ABJ/ CS/733/2018 which removed the former National Organising Secretary Mr Emmanuel Ibediro since 24th of September 2018. This is to ensure strict compliance with the Rule of Law”, he said. NWC backs Hilliard Eta Moments later and using the same meeting hall of the National Executive Committee NEC, 16 out of the 21 members of the NWC announced the National Vice Chairman, South-South, Ntufam Hilliard Eta as acting National Chairman. With Oshiomhole out of the equation, the party is supposed to now have 20 NWC members, but the Hilliard Eta tendency has now declared Chief Giadom a persona non grata in the NWC. The NWC said it met on Wednesday morning to take the decision, asking Eta to act on behalf of Sen. Ajimobi who is reportedly indisposed. Those who signed the statement were the National Secretary, Arc. Waziri Bulama, Hilliard Eta, the National Vice Chairman Southeast, Hon. Emma Eneukwu; National Vice Chairman, Southwest, Pastor Bankole Oluwajana; National Vice Chairman, Northwest, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir; National Vice Chairman, North Central, Alhaji Suleiman Umar Wambai; National Organizing Secretary, Barr. Emma Ibediro and the National Legal Adviser, Babatunde John Kwame Ogala. Others were the National Welfare Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Masari; National Treasurer, Alhaji Adamu Fanda; National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu; National Financial Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Bello; National Auditor, Paul Chukwuma; National Women Leader, Hajia Salamatu Baiwa Umar-Eluma; National Youth Leader, Alhaji Sadiq Abubakar and National Disabled Leader, Misbahu Lawan Didi. According to Eta, the NWC reaffirms Sen. Ajimobi, as the acting National Chairman of the party, but that in his absence, the NWC resolved that he (Eta) should pilot the affairs of the party. Giadom’s seat vacant The Eta-led NWC also declared as vacant the office of the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Chief Victor Giadom, saying he had resigned to participate in the 2019 general elections as running mate to the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers State, Pastor Tonye Cole. Article 31(1)(iii) of the APC Constitution (2014 as amended) stipulates that; “Any party office holder interested in contesting for an elective office (whether party office or office in a general election) shall resign and leave office 30 days prior to the date of nomination or Party primary for the Office he or she is seeking to contest”. Eta said as the zonal chairman of the party in the South South, he is not aware that the Zonal Executive Committee ZEC had at any time met and re-presented Giadom as their candidate for the office of Deputy National Secretary. According to him; “The NWC also noted that Chief Victor Giadom had resigned to contest as Deputy Governor of the party in the last election and that the party has no recollection that the South-south zone of the party had re-presented him. “Therefore, the NWC has now asked the South- south zonal chapter of the party to present a member of the party to fill this position”. Eta added that three members of the NWC who signed the statement attended Wednesday meeting by virtual means. They are the National Vice Chairman Southeast, Emma Eneukwu, National Disabled Leader, Alh. Misbahu Didi and National Financial Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Bello. Names Uzodinma Edo Primary Election C’ttee Chair The NWC also named a seven-member primary election committee for Edo state, headed by the Imo state Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma. According to Eta, Barr. Prof. Mustapha Bello would serve as the Chairman of the Appeal Committee for the primary election. While the Edo state Governorship Primary Election has been scheduled for Monday 22nd June, 2020, the Election Appeal is scheduled for Wednesday 24th June, 2020. Member and the primary election committee are Sen. Ajibola Bashiru (Secretary), Alh. Abdullahi Abass, Hon. Ibrahim Sabo, Hon. Ocho Obioma, Hajia Amina Lantana Muhammed and Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye. Other members of the Primary Election Appeal Committee are Dr. Kayode Ajulo (Secretary), Hon. Umar Ahmed, Nasiru Ibrahim Junju and Hon. Rasaq Mahmud Bamu. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/06/apc-gets-three-acting-national-chairman-in-three-hours/ |

…says “we are delisted from the black book”
Alleges late father’s friends abandoned them
Late General Sani Abacha Son of former Nigerian military ruler, Sadiq Abacha, has alleged that even though a travel ban on the Abachas has been lifted since during the Yar’adua era, members of the late General Sani Abacha family were still harassed whenever they travel in and out of the country. “We went to the security agency, they even gave us a clearance paper. But even before this lockdown that I travelled to Dubai, I was still interrogated at the Airport,'” he alleged. Sadiq spoke in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service monitored by Vanguard on Wednesday. Asked on how the Abacha family felt on reports of hundreds of millions, allegedly stashed in foreign vaults by the late military ruler, Sadiq said the reports were disturbing. “We hear the report just as others used to hear. But there are reasons why the money was kept … there are some politicians. Definitely, I’m not happy,” he said On their relationship with the families of other surviving Nigerian leaders, Sadiq Abacha explained that apart from the family of Ibrahim Babangida, and to some extent that of President Muhammadu Buhari, others had, allegedly, failed to sustain the relationship. ” We relate well with the Babangida family…, ” he said. These revelations came 22 years after the death of General Abacha. According to him, “Our present relationship with some of our late father’s friends is surprising. We exchange pleasantries with the family of General Babangida. We are in good terms. “It is only with members of the Babangida family that whenever we meet, we associate and share stories. ” We also relate well, with family members of President Muhammadu Buhari. But it’s only with the Babangida’s that we recall the past. ” When Yayale Ahmed was Secretary of the Government of the Federation, he helped us and the travel ban on our family was lifted.” ” But up till date, I’m always interrogated at the airports anytime I’m travelling. They always say our names are still in the black book. ” We’ve been to the security agency and they have issued us with a clearance paper. That our names have been removed from the black book. ” But nothing has changed..I’m always harassed whenever I’m going out or coming into the country. I don’t know where to go and be listened to. It should’ve been a security agency, but I was there. ” Nothing has changed. Even recently, before this lockdown, I was interrogated when I returned from Dubai,” he said. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/06/abachas-son-cries-over-airport-scrutiny/ |

Adamawa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman of Ward Congresses Committee for Edo 2020 election, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has expressed optimism that his Edo State counterpart, Mr Godwin Obaseki will overcome the political challenges in the Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and emerge the party’s flagbearer in the September 19 governorship election in the State. Fintiri disclosed this to journalists on arrival at the Benin Airport to perform the national assignment for his party, the PDP. He said Obaseki is a democrat and has behaved as one by creating the environment for his party, the PDP to have a successful event, by providing the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium for the use of the party. “Obaseki is a democrat; he has given us a venue for the event and we didn’t expect less from him. He will also lodge me in the Government House Quarters, which is normal.” On the build-up to the activities of the APC primary election in Edo State, Fintiri said Governor Obaseki will surmount the political challenges and meet the candidate of his party at the September 19 governorship election. Fintiri noted, “I believe Obaseki will overcome, and we will also overcome our challenges and meet at the election.” Reassuring of a fair process in the emergence of a candidate for the PDP in the Edo 2020 election, Fintiri said, “As chairman of the Committee, the PDP should expect fairness and justice to all the aspirants jostling for the party’s ticket. We will ensure a level playing ground and see that the best candidate emerges to contest with the APC candidate.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/06/obaseki-a-democrat-will-emerge-apc-candidate-in-edo-guber-says-adamawa-gov-fintiri/ |
