mrtidier: The hype I meant was ab initio. Before the tests and all that. They sounded like a whole lot of organizations were queued up, waiting for the tests to end so they could gobble up whatever successful candidates that PushCv churned out. I mean, if we took them word for word. A friend nearly quit her 'meagre pay, much stress' job because of PushCv till I advised against it. Though she's an Elite employee right now, she's thanking her stars that she listened to me. There was the hype bro. There was the hype. Self-hype.
BTW, If you are a programmer, apply at Andela. Its more instant than PushCv. I'm still reading for the tests. Bon chance. Hmm, ok. I now get your point. Anyway, mk we dey look forward 2 those great jobs. Then we will easily forgive them for the over-self-hype. Now, IMHO, the 100+ we're seeing aren't job slots but INTERVIEW slots. It's the number of Elites the said company wants to come 4 final screening. PS: Yes I am a programmer. I did search about the Andela you mentioned, and I'm too pleased by this great resource to not thank you a million times! |

Caucasian: My guy.. Welcome on board. I can't lie to you the companies are really tooshed and top-ranked as pushcv puts it.. they pay well. Its worth getting a job through this innovative platform. You don't find their jobs advertised on any jobsites.. and now I truly believe what my pastor told us earlier this month. He said the very good jobs are not advertised publicly. . Yeah, most of them aren't, and there are reasons. One of them is that it's if it "pays well", it's probably not a junior position, and most companies employ senior staff based on their own research/hunting and recommendations from trusted people (the latter of which PushCV is positioning itself to be). mrtidier: There are toosh companies. Agreed. But the reason we seem to have high expectation from PushCv is that they over-hyped themselves. They set high and mighty expectations and then fall below those expectations. So much ado about nothing if I may say. On the flip side, they have something really nice going. Kudos to them. The over-hype just stained their seemingly flawless innovation. "Overhype"? I beg to differ. Since the adverts they're posting are truly from toosh companies, all that's left is for people to ACTUALLY start being called for interviews and getting employed. Once that happens, then, my brother, they weren't overhyped at all. In fact, that's when the hype will really start! PS: Thanks for the info about the CNE web design job. Though I didn't see it on my dashboard per se, I navigated around, found it and applied. Thanks once more. |

At least I'm now finally through with the examinations. So you just have to make it men. Get back to it and fight! Come on men! Now, I also want to encourage us all who got 3 stars to keep trying till we succeed. IMO, if PushCV is not a scam, if they end up being an outfit that TRULY helps people get jobs by pre-screening them and then "pushing" their CV to employers- if that is true, then we, as the first set have an EASIER opportunity to win. Coz the subsequent sets will be WAY MORE competitive. So get at 'em guys! Let's show them what we're made of! |
Sports › "Fight Of The Century": Mayweather, Pacquiao To Slug It Out; Starts 2AM May3 WAT by enigmatique(op): 11:40am On May 02, 2015 |
Fight of the century: All eyes on Mayweather, Pacquiao showdown
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will put boxing back on the cultural map for at least one glittering night on Saturday, AFP reports. Other bouts have been called “Fight of the Century” but in a sport that once made regular front-page news it has been years since one so captured the imagination of people who are not boxing fans. “This is the biggest fight in boxing history,” Mayweather declared this week in a spurt of hyperbole befitting the occasion. The welterweight clash at MGM Grand in Las Vegas is a hot topic on social media. The massive interest has been fuelled by the big financial figures surrounding the fight: revenue perhaps reaching $400m and pay- per-view purchases surging towards three million; gate receipts of $70m; all adding up to what could be $200m for Mayweather and over $100m for Pacquiao. Mayweather, 38, puts his WBC and WBA titles on the line and Pacquiao, 36, defends his WBO belt. The fight should be an intriguing clash of styles between men of contrasting personalities. Pacquiao, a southpaw who has held “world” titles in eight weight divisions, is an aggressive southpaw, famous for fighting toe- to-toe and one of the hardest punchers in the division. If any fighter can neutralise his attack it is the elusive Mayweather, a consummate craftsman with vast ring know-how and the patience to use it. Mayweather has beaten eight southpaws, including Zab Judah. He has proved his ability to make mid-fight adjustments. The American is known for a defensive style that critics say could be boring, but Pacquiao and his trainer, Freddie Roach, expect him to try to make the most of his size advantage by engaging early in search of a knockout. Leonard Ellerbe, head of Mayweather Promotions, says, “Floyd is going to try to take Manny Pacquiao’s head off. You can count on that. Mayweather is looking to finish him off.” But Mayweather has scored just one knockout since 2007. That was in 2001 when he put down Victor Ortiz in a controversial quick start. Sugar Ray Leonard, an Olympic gold medallist and five-division professional world champion, says the fight is all about legacies. “It’s about history; a fight to make your palms sweat.” Meanwhile, Mayweather says he is going to come out swinging and be the aggressor early against Pacquiao. “I am going to approach it in a very, very aggressive way and go out there and press the attack early,” Mayweather said on the NBA on TNT. “Of course I would love to win by knockout. I am pretty sure he is going to come at me extremely strong. “I am facing one of the best fighters I have ever faced.” Las Vegas authorities could take the rare step of barring traffic from the gambling hub’s famous Strip as they brace the massive crowds expected to descend on Sin City for the fight. The bout at is sold out and hotels are overflowing with guests as between 150,000 to 200,000 people are expected to pour into the desert city for the showdown being billed as the “Fight of the Century”. “We have handled events like this before where we had to shut down the Strip,” Erik Newman, Deputy Fire Chief of Clark County Fire Department told AFP. “What we are preparing for is the NBA all-star game in 2007.” SOURCE: http://www.punchng.com/sports/fight-of-the-century-all-eyes-on-mayweather-pacquiao-showdown/Actually, by our local time, the main boxing event starts by 2am tomorrow ( i.e 2am WAT on May 3) and you can watch it live, AFAIK, on Supersport 2. Although there were some previous speculations about the specs and features of the Samsung Z1, we now have the confirmed specs of this smartphone. Samsung Z1 has 768MB of RAM, a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and 4GB of internal memory which can be expanded by as much as 64GB using a microSD card. This premier Tizen smartphone also has a 4 inch, 480 x 800 (WVGA-PLS) TFT screen, plus a 3.1 MP rear-facing camera with a VGA front-facing counterpart. It has 3G (HSDPA 900/2100MHz), GSM (850/900/1800/1900), WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB 2.0. All of this is powered by a 1500mAh battery whose performance is enhanced by Samsung Z1’s in-built Ultra Power Saving Mode. The phone has a dimension of 63.2mm x 120.4mm x 9.7mm and weighs 112g. Here are some pictures of the device:

It is obvious from the specs above that this smartphone is a budget device. This fact is also reflected in the price tag of the device. Samsung has pegged its price at Rs 5700 (about $92 or N16800). Samsung is yet to officially announce its plans for releasing this device or other Tizen smartphones in other countries. However, there are already rumors of a Tizen-running Galaxy S5-like device to be released in Russia. Similarly, there are only three color variants available as of this moment: white, black and red wine, which can be seen in the pictures above.Above all, Tiznar is working with a top retailer in India to find a way to get a few copies (10-20 copies) for our Nigerian and African readers. Posted on December 13, 2014 by Foluski in EDITORIAL, NEWS
There is a proverb of my people which says that one is only keen to fight when he/she thinks that victory will be easy. If not, that person will be less belligerent and more diplomatic. By the time you finish reading this article, you’ll understand why I quoted this adage.
So, some people are still feeling the pain of being disappointed on Dec. 10. Tech news and online communities had been eagerly anticipating this “launch” of the first Tizen phone. Of course it never took place. While people are biting their lower lips, there is only one question that keeps coming to my mind…
“Why?“
Why was there no launch, even though Tarun Malik had told us to expect Samsung’s first Tizen phone after Diwali- that is, late this year? Isn’t it December already? Why did Samsung cancel the launch of the Samsung Z, and we’ve not heard anything about it since then? We already have Tizen-powered smartwatches and smartcameras but are yet to have a Tizen smartphone? Above all, why does Samsung seem so slow and almost hesitant in releasing a Tizen smartphone?
It’s crunch times at Samsung
Samsung Electronics has not had a sweet ride in 2014. Its financial statement for the third quarter (Q3) of 2014, shows that its sales of ALL its products stand at $42.7 billion, down from $47.1 billion in Q2 of 2014. This means a 9% reduction in sales. But compare its Q3, 2014 sales with its Q3, 2013 sales. At the end of Q3, 2013, Samsung posted total sales of $53.2 billion. So, between Q3, 2013 and Q3, 2014, the company’s sales plummeted by 20% Ouch!
But now, let’s leave that general overview and focus on the company’s commercial performance with mobile devices. The South Korean tech giant sold $21.2 billion worth of mobile devices in Q3 of 2014. Great, right? Well, not really, considering that it sold $24.8 billion of devices in Q2 of 2o14. That’s a 14% decrease in sales. But then brace yourself for this: in Q3 of 2013, Samsung’s sales stood at $32.1 billion. So, this means that between Q3 of last year and Q3 of this year, its sales have plummeted by 22%. In other words, if Samsung’s mobile device sales in Q3 of 2013 were represented with 5 identical cars, then the tech giant has lost one car already. Ouch! The document also showed that operating profits in Q3, 2014 are down to $1.6 billion from $4 billion in Q2, 2014, which is a 60% decrease! Yikes!! Screenshot from Samsung's Q3, 2014 financial report
IMAGE: Snippet from Samsung’s Q3, 2014 financial report. Joyful stats, aren’t they? So, we don’t yet have a Tizen phone because…
You see, Google has been watching Samsung’s development of its own OS. If Samsung adopts Tizen for its phones, it will no longer have access to crucial Google APIs like Google Maps, Google Play Services (not just Play Store) and so on. It will need developers to populate it app ecosystem. For the former, Samsung will have to either license map data from someone or map the world by itself- LOL! It is the AOSP that is open source and free. Google Services aren’t. Similarly, it will be highly difficult to convince app developers to develop apps for an OS that next to no one is using. If Samsung somehow still decides to leave, it will be kicked out of the Open Handset Alliance for good. It can’t come “crawling” back in. If sales and income were rich, Samsung could have said “I’ll call your bluff Google. I’ll give this a determined shot”. But sales and profits are presently as rich as the Tizen App Store.
So, there it is. We don’t have a Tizen phone yet because it’s too risky for Samsung to release one. Just like the proverb I quoted at the start of this piece, Samsung has to evaluate whether it has enough muscle for this brawl, or it better lay low. The smartgadget space (watches, cameras, in-vehicle infotainment etc) is not dominated by Android. So Samsung can make such devices without really irritating Google- something Samsung is doing already. But as for phones, a different approach is needed. Samsung itself said this when postponing the launch of Samsung Z: “…[we] want to further build the Tizen ecosystem [before launching the first Tizen phone]”.
So guys, you’ll have to wait some more for that Tizen phone. How long? I don’t know. We all really don’t know.

Reports from India have made it clear that there was no launch of the Samsung Z1 on Wednesday, Dec. 10. We had earlier published a report of an imminent launch of the first Tizen phone . However, this launch never took place. Indeed, we made frantic efforts before and on December 10 to get information about the launch , but those efforts were futile. The best response we got from many of our sources was “we don’t know”. However, we now have the full details of what happened- and didn’t happen- two days ago.
Really, the finest detail you need to hear about this episode is this: there was no launch of any phone by Samsung on Wednesday, let alone a Tizen phone.
One denial, many proofs On Thursday, Samsung was reported as saying that there wasn’t a launch because they never officially said that there would be a launch. “We also didn’t even send out invitations for the event. So we have disappointed no one.” Indeed, it’s true that the South Korea-based tech giant never made any official announcement about a launch. However, Tarun Malik, the head of Samsung’s Media Solutions Center in Southwest Asia, told the Economic Times of India in an interview in September that a Tizen phone was to be expected after October. But Samsung neither said nor did anything to contradict his words back then. Secondly, the Wall Street Journal quoted a source from one of the companies in the Tizen Association as having confirmed Mr Malik’s words. The source said that they (at their company) were also getting word about an imminent Tizen phone launch. To cap it all, Tizen Experts published shipping manifests that showed that Samsung had imported about 1.7 million dollars’ worth of phone parts. These parts were consistent with the specs of Samsung Z1 that everyone had heard of. Here are the manifests:
IMAGE: First shipping manifest that indicated Samsung was building a Tizen phone.
IMAGE: Second shipping manifest that indicated Samsung was building a Tizen phone.
All of the above is now history. The present situation is that many people are disappointed. Many people indeed. And yes, Tiznar is disappointed too. We already have Tizen on smartwatches and smartcameras, but how long do we have to wait for a smartphone? Reports indicate that Samsung will still launch the phone this year- but will they? Honestly, we don’t know. But you need to read tomorrow’s editorial piece for our fine analysis and opinion on this matter. You, our esteemed reader, also need to follow us on Twitter or like us on Facebook so as to be kept up to beat with the latest news about Tizen, its yet-to-be-released phones and other devices.

All of the above is now history. The present situation is that many people are disappointed. Many people indeed. And yes, Tiznar is disappointed too. We already have Tizen on smartwatches and smartcameras, but how long do we have to wait for a smartphone? Reports indicate that Samsung will still launch the phone this year- but will they? Richiy: They don't realise that Nigerians have passed the 512mb ram. Mademoiselle, just as joeace2020 has pointed out, they are targeting the low end portion of the market, and 512mb is a good place 2 start. Most Nigerians still use 512 mb phones, and that presently includes yours sincerely. The other ram size that's popular is 1gb, which I think Samsung shld also release soon. |

TIZEN: Samsung to announce first Tizen phone tomorrow!
(Posted on December 8, 2014 by onile in NEWS)
-and “…you’ll see even more Tizen devices early next year…”, says Samsung.
Samsung Mobile Inc. is set to announce the first Tizen phone in India tomorrow. Tizen is a Linux-based operating system which Samsung, along with other tech giants like Intel, is developing for its products. Samsung is set to take that development to the next level as it will be announcing the first Tizen phone, the Samsung Z1 tomorrow.
As we reported earlier, Samsung Z1 is a low-end smartphone. Its specs include 512 MB of RAM, 4GB of ROM, a 1.2GHz dual core processor and a 4 inch screen that has a 480×800 (WVGA) resolution. Samsung intends to use this product to fend off the fierce competition that it has been facing in the low-end section of Asian markets. Asian manufacturers like Xiaomi, Tecno, Jiayu and Micromax have been relentless in profiting from this area. Samsung also intends to use the Z1 to start the release of cheap smartphones so as to rival Google’s Android One scheme.
This shows that other developing countries like Malaysia, Nigeria and many African countries, Italy and more may also expect Tizen phones.
Samsung touts Tizen as “the OS of everything” because it is suitable for phones, wearable tech, smart TVs, smartcameras, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and more. To validate this claim, Samsung has already made devices like the Gear S smartwatch and the NX1 smartcamera. Nevertheless, observers in tech space feel uncertain about Tizen’s prospects of overthrowing Android and, most especially, how passionate Samsung is in achieving that goal. So, we expect Samsung to use this launch as a strong statement of intent.
