Croatia captain and Madrid superstar, Luka Modric, 33, signals the end of the decade-old Messi-Ronaldo duopoly, as he clinches the FIFA Best Award. The former Tottenham star was awarded football highest individual prize in the FIFA Best Award ceremony held in London, recently, having beaten off worthy competition from in and around Europe. Much was made of the fact that Barcelona’s Lionel Messi didn’t make the final three-man shortlist for the 2018/19 season, but when Real Madrid’s Luka Modric made the long walk to the podium to receive the award as the best footballer in the world, in 2018, many more tongues wagged. The epoch making feat was the first time in over a decade that the award didn’t go to either one of Barcelona whiz kid, Lionel Messi, or the new king of Turin, Cristiano Ronaldo. The last time any other person, asides Ronaldo and Messi, won the FIFA best- formerly Ballon d’or- was as far back as 2007, when the now retired Brazilian, Ricardo Kaka, donned the red and black stripes of AC Milan. And for the first time in twelve years, Barcelona’s mercurial number 10 wasn’t even listed in the final three that included Liverpool’s revelation of the season, Mohammed Salah and Juventus Cristiano Ronaldo. Official numbers released by FIFA shows Modric garnered 29.05% of the total votes. Ronaldo finished second with 19.08%, while Salah ended in third place with 11.23%. Lionel Messi could only finish in fifth place with 9.81% behind Kylian Mbappe, who finished in fourth place. Modric’s triumph means Ronaldo and Messi remain tied at five FIFA Awards each. The Portuguese first claimed the award in 2008, and subsequently in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017. Whilst Messi was voted the best in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015. ‘It was an unbelievable season, the best season in my life’, Modric said. ‘I am, still not realizing how good a year I had collectively, individually, and I am very proud for everything I achieved this year and it will be remembered forever’, he further enthused, giving a speech on receiving the award. Many had tried, and many had failed. Nothing short of a stellar season would have managed to end the Messi-Ronaldo stranglehold over football biggest individual prize. And boy did the little magician have the best of seasons. Before the summer world cup in Russia, this year, the Croatia number 10 had played an integral part in Zidane’s Real Madrid team doing the unthinkable, winning the UEFA Champions League for the third time in a roll. The Santiago Bernabeu faithfuls had managed to stifle the attacking prowess of Mo Salah’s Liverpool in the final, and Luka Modric was instrumental, as he pulled the strings deep from midfield. Many would argue that Ronaldo got the goals for Madrid, but few would disagree with the fact that it was Modric’s genius throughout the campaign that really did the magic for the los blancos. Luka is definitely one of the best midfield players in the world. He has great technical abilities, reads the game well and has a strong personality that he has built over the years’, Carlo Ancellotti had said when the Croatian first signed for the los blancos. Carlo Ancellotti is a veteran in the game, and he knows greatness even if it comes in small packages- the small package being Luka Modric. If anyone had any doubts, the former Tottenham star laid them to rest in the summer world cup in Russia, captaining his side to the final- beating Argentina and in England, and only losing 4-1 to the French team. To spice things all up, he was voted the best player at the tournament, as he walked away with the much coveted golden boot. At 33, the little pea, as he is fondly called in the Real Madrid dressing room, is only getting better with age. And in winning the FIFA Best for 2018, he has unconsciously stirred a revolution of some sorts. Gone are the days when awards are set asides for either one of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to clinch. Gone are the days when football’s highest individual prize was decided on who had scored the most goals in that season. Ronaldo and Salah both had 44 goals last season, and Messi scored even more, but it was the Madrid midfield gem that was considered for the top prize. This is very much contrary to what was obtainable in the past decade. Usually, he who had scored more goals between the former Madrid attacker and Barcelona’s all time highest goal scorer was always often bestowed with The Best Award. But not this season. Luka didn’t score too many goals, and neither did he make so many assists too, but his contribution to the triumph of both club and country was clearly visible. His win has opened the door way for others to come through and know that when they actually put it work, their efforts would be rewarded accordingly. Now, players such as Eden Hazard, Neymar Jnr., Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe have their work cut out for them, as Luka Modric has smoothened the rough path by ending the Ronaldo-Messi duopoly. https://naijmobile.com/messi-ronaldo-duopoly-over/

Tekno and TECNO – Endorsements in the works? https://naijmobile.com/tekno-and-tecno-endorsements-in-the-works/ |
1. Seychelles (HDI - 0.782) Seychelles is a small island country based in the Eastern part of Africa. its capital is Victoria. Although you may wonder how it made it to the topmost developed African Countries, it definitely is. The Island country may not have a massive population but it does have a well-developed economy defined from Agriculture and Tourism. Poverty, one of the many challenges in Africa may still be high but its economy is stable. It, however, failed in areas of equal wealth distribution. 2. Mauritius (HDI- 0.781) Mauritius is an island country to the Southeast coast of Africa. Again this country is an Island but it ranks second highest among the topmost developed countries in Africa. The capital of this country is Port Louis. Mauritius has a life expectancy of 75.17% and free education is awarded by the government from the primary to the university level. So literacy is very high in the country ranking about 89.8%. Mauritius may not have any natural resources such as Petroleum but it has definitely done so much for itself, in terms of education, renewable energy supply, healthcare, and even technology. it has a free economy and a friendly investment environment. 3. Algeria (HDI- 0.745) Algeria ranks third on our list of top most developed countries in Africa. it is located in North Africa on the Mediterranean Coast. Algeria has one of the largest military in Africa, the largest defense budget and many of its weapons are imported directly from Russia. Algeria also has an abundance of natural resources and ranks 10th place in the abundance of natural gas. Algeria does not have much in terms of fascinating buildings and therefore has no existing Tourism achievements but this has been improved in recent years. Algeria currently has a literacy rate of 78.7% and 99% of the country lives within the urban areas. 4. Tunisia ( HDI-0.725) Tunisia is located in North West Africa and is bordered by Algeria and Libya as well as the Mediterranean Sea. Tunisia has a high rate of unemployment, corruption, and lack of freedom of speech (143 out of 173 countries in the World). However, although it surely has corruption, it is the least corrupt Arab-African country in the world. It also has a stable and diverse economy ranging from mining, manufacturing, petroleum products, tourism, and agriculture. it also has the most competitive economy in Africa. 5. Libya ( HDI- 0.716) Libya is also located in North Africa. it is the fourth largest country in Africa and the 16th largest country in the World. it is also among the topmost developed countries in Africa. Although Libya has been in internal crisis since 2014, it is still one of the top countries in Africa. But it does not have a free press as well. its economy depends largely on the Oil sector but it also majors in tourism as well. it would also interest you to know that alcohol consumption is illegal in the country. Basic education in Libya is free and compulsory up to secondary level. Literacy in Libya is about 89.2%. 6. Botswana (HDI - 0.698) Botswana is in the Southern part of Africa. It also ranks top among the most developed countries in Africa for many reasons. It is also has a fast-growing economy and a high standard of living that may be comparable to that of Mexico. However, the Educational system in Botswana needs to be improved but it has significant developments in technology. Read now 10 African countries with the highest white population 7. Gabon (HDI- 0.697) Quite surprising to see Gabon rank higher than South Africa in the topmost developed countries in Africa. But again development is not measured by the level of urbanization but rather on other factors mentioned in the introduction. Gabon is located on the west coast of Central Africa, just north to Cameroon. it has a high level of natural resources especially in terms of crude oil but more than 1/3 of its population still earn an income that would rather be seen as living in poverty. Investments are ongoing to boost tourism and agricultural sectors but not much are yet to be seen. However, Gabon has one of the highest health sectors in Africa with more than 90% of its citizens having access to health facilities. 70% of the population also has access to safe drinking water. So food, shelter, and health are accessible in Gabon. The main problem lies in the level of income. Also, Education is compulsory for children from age 6 to 16. the Country has a high literacy standard (83.2%) 8. Egypt (HDI- 0.691) Egypt is located to the northeast corner of Africa and southwest corner of Asia. it is ranked high among the topmost developed countries in Africa. It has a diverse economy with many sectors in agriculture, media, petroleum imports, natural gas, and tourism. However, the standard of living of Egyptians ins very stagnant due to the high prices placed on basic goods and services. It would interest you to know that Egypt is the largest consumer of oil and natural gas in Africa as well as the largest oil refinery capacity. 9. South Africa (HDI - o.666) South Africa ranks at the bottom of the topmost developed countries in Africa. South Africa has the second largest economy in Africa but the question here is not the largest but in terms of stability and a good number of other factors. It is the 25th largest country in the World. However, South Africa has one of the highest rates of poverty and unemployment in the world. It is a rich country but more than half of its residents have no access to this money. In the World, South Africa ranks among the top countries in the World with income inequality. The major revenue for South Africa's economy is Tourism, hence the explanation for what many perceive as a high standard of living, which is not. It remains one of the top most visited tourist attractions in Africa. 10. Cape Verde (HDI- 0.648) Cape Verde is an Island country located along the Atlantic Ocean. It has one of the healthiest population in Africa. it also makes the tenth position of the topmost developed countries in Africa. Cape Verde has a good educational system but this can be improved. However, it's economy is largely dedicated to research in Science and development. And there you have it, the topmost developed countries in Africa. Do let us know your thoughts on this rankings. https://naijmobile.com/ten-most-developed-countries-in-africa/

Collision Coverage This kind of auto insurance covers all damage resulting from collision of your vehicle with another vehicle, trees, mailboxes, or any other object in general. It comes into play when you are to blame for an accident or when you have no idea who damaged your car. Auto Insurance does not cover mechanical repairs Any kind of maintenance repairs needed by your car is fixed by you alone. This includes everything from wear and tear and as much as a bad workmanship done on your car. Selecting the Right Auto Insurance Cover in Nigeria The Auto insurance coverage in Nigeria has different definitions to them. Here we have basically two kinds of insurance policies: Third Part Auto Insurance: This may also be called the collision auto insurance but it only covers for any damage caused by you to another car or the property of another. It is compulsory to have these kind of insurance coverage before you can use the Nigerian roads. These kind of premiums may range from N5,000 upwards depending on your kind of vehicle. 2. Comprehensive Auto Insurance: This insurance covers every damage that comes to your vehicle with relation to owning and driving it. It covers fire, theft, vandalism accidental damage and collision on your car or that of others. This is not a compulsory auto insurance cover. To purchase these auto insurance company, you might be required to pay about 4-5% of the value of your car. In addition, you can begin the process for your insurance coverage by phone or a visit to the insurance company. Once you have contacted the insurance company, you will need to fill out some forms and present the required documents, this forms include: KYC Form Motor Proposal Form Motor Insurance Physical Inspection Form After this, you will receive insurance quotations for you to pick the kind of policy you wish to purchase. This post contains a comprehensive list of all countries in Africa having more than its fair share of a white population. Africa is home not only to the blacks but it also has a long history of keeping the whits within its neighborhood.
