The media personality says nobody's sin should be judged based on their gender. Media girl Toke Makinwa has come for the patriarchal attitude of many Nigerians. The multi-talented media personality lamented about this via her Twitter page on Friday, January 29, 2021. According to her, it is absurd that some people always say that women who go from dating one man to the other will have questions to answer when they get to heaven. "The spirit of Patriarchy is so strong in Africa it makes me sick how can you say women who go from man to man will have questions to answer on judgment day, what of men who go from woman to woman? They’ll be welcomed into the pearly gates with open arms? Help me understand," she tweeted. "When it is a woman she is promiscuous, when it is a man, he is living it up. Fornication is no respecter of gender and you can’t judge someone cos you sin different or you are of a different gender." Makinwa is known to be quite vocal about her thoughts and views on relationships, marriages, and even political issues in the country. Born 3 November 1984, Toke Makinwa is a Nigerian radio personality, television host, vlogger, lifestyle entrepreneur, and author. She is known for hosting The Morning Drive on Rhythm 93.7 FM and for her YouTube vlog series Toke Moments . She released her book On Becoming in November 2016.

The kidnappers had demanded N50 million ransom before releasing the school principal. After spending eight days with his abductors, Iliyasu Suleiman, the kidnapped Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Lere in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State has been released. The 50-year-old principal was on his way to Kardam in Tafawa Balewa LGA together with the Auditor General of Bauchi State, Abdu Usman Aliyu, his (the AG’s) son, daughter and two others when they were attacked by gunmen who had been trailing them. Auditor General was reportedly shot in his mouth at close range after resisting to be kidnaped and was left in the pool of his blood. While the the gunmen struggled to kidnap the Auditor-General, other occupants of the car escaped. He was subsequently taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital. But on Monday, his son , Zulkifiru escaped from captivity on Monday leaving the Principal with the kidnappers. However, in an SOS message made available to journalists, the family of the kidnapped principal pleaded with the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed for urgent intervention. They urged him to pay the N50 million ransom to secure the release of the principal. Confirming the release of the principal to Punch, a family source told the newspaper that the principal was released on Saturday morning. The source said, “Our brother has been released and has returned home. The family will meet later to discuss the development, definitely, at end of the meeting, we will get back to you.” It’s not yet known if any ransom was paid to secure the release of the victim as the Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, DSP Ahmed Wakil did not respond to the calls and SMS the Punch sent to him.

The National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 says the message about a fresh lockdown is fake. The Federal Government has called on Nigerians to ignore any message about a purported plan to impose another lockdown due the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. A statement purportedly signed by Dr Sani Aliyu, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Committee Task Force on COVID-19, had stated that a fresh lockdown might be imposed this weekend for a period of two weeks. However, in a swift reaction to the statement that’s been making the rounds, Aliyu in a short video described the message as fake, saying it is absolutely untrue. He urged the public to ignore the message and abide by COVID-19 protocols such as the use of face masks, washing of hands and keeping social distancing to minimize the spread of the disease. He said, “My name is Dr Sani Aliyu, I’m the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, and we are aware of the fake message that’s been going round on Whatsapp that we’ve declared another lockdown. This is absolutely not true. I urge the general public to please ignore this message and continue with their normal activities”. Aliyu also urged the public to ignore Whatsapp messages regarding another lockdown saying the Presidential Task Force has an established way of communicating to the public.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday, asked those who have been criticising his regime, particularly the nation’s elite, to be fair in their criticism. In criticising his regime, Buhari said critics should first consider the state of the country he inherited in May 2015. According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President made the call while receiving the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Rev. Yakubu Pam, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The statement was titled “Criticise us fairly, President Buhari appeals to Nigerian elite.” Apart from the state of the country at the inception of his regime, Buhari also asked his critics to consider the resources available to the Federal Government under his watch while criticising him. He said, “Those criticising the administration should be fair in terms of reflecting on where we were before we came, where we are now and what resources are available to us and what we have done with the limited resources. “We had to struggle paying debts, investing in road repairs and rebuilding, to revamp the rail and try to get power. “This is what I hope the elite when they want to criticise will use to compare notes.” Buhari also gave his regime a pass mark on the security situation in the North East. Although he admitted that there are still what he called “occasional Boko Haram problems,” the President said there was a lot of improvement when compared to the past experience of the residents of the affected states. He added, “What was the situation when we came? Try and ask people from Borno or from Adamawa for that matter and Yobe. What was the condition before we came and what is the condition now? “Still, there are problems in Borno and Yobe, there are occasional Boko Haram problems, but they know the difference because a lot of them moved out of their states and moved to Kaduna, Kano and here (in Abuja). “We were not spared of the attacks at a time. The government is doing its best and I hope that eventually, our best will be good enough.” Buhari also assured all stakeholders that the welfare of Internally Displaced Persons was paramount on the agenda of his regime. “The people in IDP camps, the weak, aged, I feel sorry for the young because this is the time they are supposed to get education. “We must not allow this time to pass because it will never be regained. So, we are really interested in what is happening there and we are doing our best,” the President said. He commended the Executive Secretary on his appointment and activities on peace building around the country despite his short time in the saddle and assured him of the listening ear of the government whenever he had contributions to make. Earlier in his remarks, Pam was said to have intimated the President with some of the activities of the commission since he was appointed in July 2020. These include; organisation of Peace Summit on Southern Kaduna as well as peace-building efforts in Plateau, Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa States. He added that the commission has proposed to host Christian religious leaders in a summit to help douse pressures within the polity, among other plans. |
The Force says officers are working round the clock to provide a safe and secure environment for Nigerians. The Police Force says it needs the backing of political authorities to make progress. Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Frank Mba, says security forces in Nigeria are miracle workers due to the severity of challenges they face. Insecurity has been a constant problem in the country over many years, with the recent uptick in violent bandit activities, especially in the northern region, being of particular concern. While speaking during a Channels TV interview on Thursday, January 14, 2021, Mba said security forces are stretched thin because of the population and landmass of the country. He said despite the challenges, officers are working round-the-clock to provide a safe and secure environment for Nigerians to live in. The commissioner of police said, "Looking at the hard ground under which we function and looking at the very asphyxiating, sometimes almost poisonous, environment that we operate, it is indeed right for us to actually be called miracle workers. "The truth is no Police agency anywhere in the world can rise above its society in terms of how the society wants it to operate. Every society gets the kind of Police it deserves." The Police spokesperson said the Force needs the backing of political authorities to make progress in terms of funding, provision of logistics, remuneration, retirement benefits.

Ordinarily the fact that you can polish to your taste makes building from scratch a better idea.Even thought buying a house is not a bad idea too. Some external circumstances might also determine what to go for at very moments. |
