@topic.
There are known things gej will start up with instead of coming up with sweet to gain cheap popularity. A reformed country can't contain people like obj, ibb, buhari etc this guys are suppose to residing in kirikiri.
If you include Buhari in your list of Kirikiri candidates, then GEJ's residence should be Atlantic ocean for all his connivance with Gov Alams in looting Billions of Bayelsa money and all he did after he was made Governor of the state.
Till now, efcc or icpc or CCB, or any graft body hasn't found Buhari guilty of any corruption.
Disprove it here and now!

But we arent going anywhere simply because the economy of our states are bigger than that of Ghana.
Lagos is already building more roads than Ghana is.
But come to think of it, Ghana CAN NEVER be compared to Nigeria except in terms of Electricity. That doesnt mean we don't have alot to do

OCCULTIST:
Why must Fashola abandone ACN for PDP just to be presidenthuh Why can't ACN be strong enough to clear PDP from ASO Rockhuh Must every president come from PDP? Are we now Practicing one party Systemhuh

Beside 2015 is a war the Northerners and the South East are to fight, both claim is their right to rule in 2015 let watch and see what happens maybe that will bring about the next and final civil war that will determine NIGERIA TO BE OR NOT TO BE. South West will wait till 2023 if there will be one NIGERIA THEN,everything depends on how 2015 presidential Elections is handle or else AMERICAN PROPHECY ABOUT NIGERIA NOT EXISTING BEYOND 2015 WILL MATERIALISE.
You've got fine opinion here. But 'Occultist' is not the right ID for u.

Kilode?!:
We need to stop thinking small about our people. If we elect a Bankole to power we don't need a bunch of former presidents to officially teleguide him, he can have advisers and we can remove him if we believe he's not leading us right, democracy allows that, but this CoS stuff is redundant and unnecessary, actually it is dangerous.

It does not help us to break the circle of backward group-think at the upper echelon of government and it also makes us dependent on people who might use their influence to protect their ignoble stewardship and legacy.
Bunch of Advisers!!
U seem to have forgotten that Advisers are simply glorified Employees who are appointed to receive perks from Government apron strings.
They cannot advice talk less correct the erring President.
But members of the Council of state can look Mr President in the eyes and scold him.

By and large, I don't care whether the council is scrapped or not. All that concern me is the astronomical funds my husband and I spend on powering fuel-sucking dragon-like monstrous generators.

By Henry Umoru, Abuja
PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan said yesterday that if the present reform moves by the government must be achieved, there was need for the reforms to begin with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, just as he called for the democratization of the country’s decision making process.

Speaking at the opening of a two-day retreat for the President, Governors and National Assembly members elected on the platform of the PDP, President Jonathan also called on State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct free, fair and credible elections when such polls were due at the local government levels, adding, ‘’only in fair procedures and delivery of services is winning of elections guaranteed. The development of our community and nation. begins with our electing men and women of outstanding integrity and credibility whose mission is to offer selfless service.”

The two-day retreat which is holding at the International Conference Centre ICC, Abuja is being organised by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in collaboration with Peoples Democratic Institute, PDI with the theme, ‘’ Legislative and Executive Branch Collaboration: A synergy for National Transformation”

The President who stressed the need for the strengthening of political parties and the need for party members to be disciplined, loyal as well as subject themselves to the dictates and leadership of the party, said, ‘’we must build and strengthen our political parties so that the institutions of democracy can constantly produce such individuals who can defend our party and our Country.

‘’Loyalty, internal democracy and party discipline are some essential elements in this mission. It is therefore imperative that as members of our party we must strive to subject ourselves to the guidance of its leadership.

Bello Haliru and the National Organising Secretary, Chief Uche Secondus (r) while Vice President Namadi Sambo (2l); Kwara State Governor, Abdulfattah Ahmed (l) and others look on at the arrival of the President for the 2-Day Retreat for the President, Governors and Assembly Members-Elect at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Photo by Abayomi Adeshida

The message is that despite the free-handedness of democracy, there are basic rules of conduct and behaviour that regulates the actions of members of every political party so as to ensure cohesion and achieving a common purpose for the good of all. We will reform to enable us achieve our objective.

‘’Therefore, the reforms to transform the polity must begin at home. We must all work together to subject our party to the much needed Reform so that it can position itself for the great task ahead. We must democratize our decision making process so that party decisions will be easier to enforce. We must consult more, build consensus and take decisions that is in the best interest of our country and our party. I charge you all not only to support the reforms but to also ensure their implementation at all levels.”

Intelligent contributions from most of you.
However, can u imagine if Bank'Ole the youthful but bastardly corrupt youngman happens to be president and there is no Council of State to advise?
Do you know what will happen to your country?

Besides, I don't think that it is a good idea to label people who your fathers aspired but couldnt be like as 'deadwoods'.

Have you thought of the next 50 years when the Council of State will comprise of some of the Finest brains like Fashola, Ngige, Rochas, Sanusi etc? Why throw away the baby with the bath water?

Don't any of you think that the major reason the Council of State was enshrined in the Constitution is to prevent any future military Coups as much as possible?

Kobojunkie:
um . . . duh!! grin grin grin grin
I may not have the right answer for you on this matter. But someone has:

JERRY-08:
At times i wonder what do nigerians which nairaland represents really want? A man declares free education, oh where is going to get the money from? He forfeits his salary, haba he is getting more from security vote and allowances, and its also a PR stunt. Why are you people like this?
Kobojunkie, what do we REALLY want? Is it not good education, good roads, electricity and other BASIC necessities of life?
If a Governor uses any strategy (he thinks best) to achieve those under his powers as a Governor, why don't we just give him the breathing space?

Kobojunkie:
He might have the best intentions, but I stand with the others that the governor does not need to be in the business of making promises that he is not 100% sure that the state can deliver on.

b) You speak of enormous demands competing for urgent attention. If you have ever been to the South East Schools, one of the very first things you would note is

      i) The State of the schools themselves, and quality of Education as a whole  ---  that requires more urgent attention and essentially resources

ii) Teacher Salaries and that of some civil servants in th state has yet to be paid for a while.

iii) The state of basic healthcare -- as someone has attempted to explain, it is nothing to right home about. A companion of mine was transported from Imo state to    Luth(Lagos)to get care but unfortunately it came late. I have another one of those to tell but no.

iv) Employment -- remember Ohakim's 10,000 419? Well, there are thousands of unemployment youths in this particular state that need help(not saying the Government ought to employ them)

Instead of showing the man with "cheap" praise, why not wait to ensure we are not being bamboozled before we pour them out thick?
The statement in Bold: don't ever compare Ohakin who left no legacy after 4 years except billboards of phantom projects with Rochas who has provided free education to thousands of kids many of whose Parents he didnt know.

The statement in Red: Sorry for the loss.

As for the 4 points you highlighted above, we are getting nearer to them by ambitious Governors shooting themselves on the foot just to make sure it is accomplished.
PoliticsRe: Rochas Forfeits Monthly Salary! by enyojo(f): 3:41pm On Jun 03, 2011
^^ Thanks for making it clearer.
So if a Sec/Prim school student/Pupil is to enjoy free education, it means the Govt pays the amount he/she would have paid and even higher for it to be able to sustain the Teachers who teach and other non academic expenses in the school.

From your analysis, it means the Govt will sacrifice many other necessities to meet the tidal and oceanic demand of free Education. Remember that Aregbeshola till now has not appointed Commissioners just to cut off the salaries(?)
God help Rochas!

Saw this explosive write-up by a Vanguard Reader and felt should let u know:
[b]There are enough non-political technocrats that GEJ can use, if he means to solve Nigeria's problems. The job of the opposition is to keep him on track. No matter how GEJ's supporters paint him, as different from the other thieves in PDP, some of us still have reservations about how different he is - actions and history speak for themselves. Let him assemble the technocrats from outside political party fold and let them do the work. Jega was not a member of any party, and it showed when he came and did his best. The same cannot be said of Prof Iwuruwuru and many of the returning officers, who Jega put in their places. Look at Anini (or Anenih), how he handled road projects worth more than N300b or Imoke, how he used N16b to provide darkness for Nigeria. These were/are PDP members. If GEJ means to succeed, he needs to avoid as many of these fraudsters as possible. But we know that GEJ cannot avoid appointing these PDP criminals - they
all worked collectively to ensure his (s)election - starting from the
primaries to the ghost votes from the southeast. Even as we speak, PDP are trying to ensure that Bankole gets a political position, with such a load on his head.

I salute Tinubu on his stand - he should not muddy the water for our incoming President (Fashola) come 2015. Let GEJ face his own work.
