chidexxy007: Maybe you need to tell us why he saw less minutes by the time all the midfield players nd Bruno became available na.. Every coach make their decisions and they have different reasons for doing so. If we go down this path, we will point out many other players that you think should be on the starting 11 but the coach for one reason or the other won't put them there. Fred saw less minutes until Ole realized something and started to play him. He was easily the top 2 best player for us in the match against Sevilla. |

He was the best amongst Andreas, Mata, Lingard, James nd co. Once them ballers came back plus the signing of Bruno, he was overshadowed.
Who pass u, pass u.. Issa simple sturvs. It doesn't mean he didn't have a great season... Who are the ballers that came back and overshadowed him? I hope you're not talking about the same people he has been playing with all season? If you mean Pogba, I rest my case |

afrodoc2: So after going through about 20 stats Fred tops 1 or 2 of them and automatically he should have been player of the season?
Rashford's goals kept us from sinking before Bruno came. Bruno came and took over.
IMO AWB shutting down one side of the defence had a significant impact on our improved defensive record. There was a spell in which teams just stopped attacking down our right side. The guy is ugly on the ball but 1v1 i gats salute.
Fred is just the latest in a long line of overrated United players like Herrera, Rojo IMO. I remember when some here were calling for Rojo's inclusion just because he gave them 2 months of eye service.
After Fred plays 1 full season of decent football i will believe in him. He is not Pogba or Martial that can correct 4 months of mediocre football with 4 months of world class performances. How many metrics did Rashford, AWB and Martial top? |

That's why he can't play with Pogba, but will shine with midfielders (Mc tominay and Matic) who can cover up for him. Cover for him? Buahahahaha |

afrodoc2: Matic made more passes, had a higher passing accuracy, was dispossessed less, and had more assists.
Matic also had more tackles, clearances, blocks, and was dribbled FAR LESS.
Try again. Defenders and players sitting in front of the defenders are expected to have more passes and better accuracy for obvious reasons. And no, Matic didn't have a better pass accuracy than Fred in the league. In fact nobody with more appearances than Fred had a better pass accuracy. In case that's still not clear, not even the defenders |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 5:19pm On Sep 18, 2020 |
afrodoc2: In the EPL Matic averaged more passes than Fred, averaged a higher pass accuracy than Fred, was dispossessed fewer times than Fred, and had 2 assists to Fred's 0 assists.
Try again. In that post, I'm not sure I mentioned that Fred posted better stats in those metrics. To have a more balanced picture, there are over 20 metrics or so if you check whoscored. Are those other ones irrelevant in a team? I was even looking only at the EPL, and not other competitions. Meanwhile we're talking about the top performers of the season, not EPL. |

Panther7: Football stats are like bikinis they only cover the parts you actually want to see I mean there are so many other things to look at, but what purpose will that serve? Apparently only those scoring the goals or doing the assists are relevant today. I shouldn't forget the tackles too. But, only AWB and Matic has more tackles than him in the team and Matic played more less football than him. Should we talk about the interceptions too? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 4:52pm On Sep 18, 2020 |
In the whole team, Fred was top 5 in average passes and successful passes. If we remove the defenders, he's easily top 2. Key pass he's top 4. Fouled, aside the attackers, he's top 2. Bruno, Rashford, Martial all have more bad touches than Fred. Surprisingly all the said top performers are more dispossessed than Fred per game according to whoscored. I'll just stop here |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 4:40pm On Sep 18, 2020 |
afrodoc2: 2 things can be true. He had a lot of great defensive performances but he is a liability going forward. And a full back who is a liability going forward especially in this day and age is a problem for a top team that will face lots of bus parking teams.
AWB because of his defensive 1v1 mastery would always get votes for his defensive performances HOWEVER a player can perform well individually but not be the best option for the team.
At the time Evra replaced Heinze, he was still probably not as good as Heinze defensively but SAF knew we needed an overlapping full back like Evra rather than a CB masquerading as a full back.
I have always lauded AWB for his defensive abilities but even in games where he shines and locks up his opposing wingers like happened with Sterling you see hints of the problems to come.
If he continues playing well defensively and struggling offensively he won't last in a top team. That is sure. So we'll say though he was one of the top 4 performers, his performance prevented some of the others from outperforming him? |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 4:37pm On Sep 18, 2020 |
afrodoc2: So his whoscored rating is low.
Also he scored no goal and made no assist.
And we already proved that he is the most dribbled player in the team.
What exactly is he so good at that he should be rated higher than his team mates who are specialists at scoring goals (Martial, Rashford), creating goals (Bruno), and stopping goals (AWB).
How is running around the pitch like an Ikwerre masquerade superior to scoring and creating goals?
There is a reason when they are giving Player of the Year awards and Golden Ball awards at tournaments the goal scorers and creators are recognized first. Hmmm now I see it |

Heinze won this award and 2 years later he was surplus to requirements.
Herrera won this award and 2 years later he was surplus to requirements. There's no trolling there. AWB was one of those said to be hindering our football. But I'm seeing him among our top 4 performers here. Where's the troll na? |

afrodoc2: I just checked Whoscored.
Our top season average performers in the EPL last season were:
1) Bruno Fernandes 7.73
2) Marcus Rashford 7.35
3) Anthony Martial 7.31
4) Wan-Bissaka 7.19 2017/18 De Gea the winner of the player of the year award. I don't think anyone will argue about this, but he wasn't even top 5 according to whoscored ratings. There are indices that influences ratings, which will never favor some players. |

His performance level dropped right from January when Bruno arrive and Matic regained form. Fred was good from Aug to Jan but afterwards he was quite terrible IMO.
Bruno, Martial, Rashford, and even AWB before Fred for me. AWB was good for a longer period than Fred and he was actually good until the resumption before he fell off a cliff. Well its settled then. |

MRTA7: Recency bias I guess. Fred was probably our most consistent performer in the first half of the season before Christmas. But the team didnt do very well in that first half. In the 2nd half when we were better he wasnt one of our stronger performers. He was until the resumption and that was around July |
