So this is why oyinbo rush designers on fiverr, freelancer & upwork etc. Insightful article...
Yes o!

Those sites still survive mainly due to selfish mediocres in the profession.
There are a lot of them in Nigeria as well, even here on Nairaland. Knowing fully well that they haven't developed enough to offer some particular design services, they still go ahead advertising it and charging ridiculously cheap amounts. Clients seeing those ridiculously cheap offers start accusing the real professional designers of charging exorbitantly. Eventually, they patronize the mediocre designers and get their money's worth of bullsh*t designs. Then they arrive at another generalization that all Nigerian designers are mediocre when they were the ones that saw both and decided to allow cost-saving mentality control their decision.

Good designs are worth every kobo. Ultimately, it saves more cost because the designs serve their purpose for as long as necessary. Mediocre designs on the other hand will need to be replaced, incurring more expenses. That's assuming the design wasn't stolen and it doesn't end up being a legal tussle for copyright infringement.

Whether you own a startup or established business, having a professional logo is beneficial on many levels. It builds trust, increases awareness, creates an emotional attachment – and ultimately, can deliver new customers. But how much should it cost?

While the range of logo design prices covers a broad spectrum, if you’re not in the graphic design industry, it may be confusing to know what’s reasonable since the price varies by designer. No logo design guidebook exists, and logo designers are free to charge whatever they wish. Some may choose to charge extremely high prices while others may choose to charge rock-bottom prices just to get business. To avoid confusion, try to stay within your price range and pay a price that makes you comfortable. In the end, the price should be fair and equal to the time spent on the task.

A Reasonable Logo Design Starts at $200(N61,110 by current exchange rate)
One should expect a simple logo design to cost approximately $200. A simple design is typically a logo with a well-defined company name and mark. Intricate patterns and complex lettering may increase the price of the logo. The finished design should be clear, unique and professional. The definition of simple will vary from person to person, which is why it is important to find a designer who works with their customers throughout the design process. An experienced designer will be able to produce good work if they have clear instructions. The designer should provide at least four concepts for this price and two rounds of changes if the customer should need them.

A More Complex Design Warrants a $400-$500(N122,220-N152,775) Price Tag
A logo design with intricate patterns and fonts typically costs twice as much as a simple design. Expect to pay around $400 for a design of this type. The increase in price will also include extra services, including up to 10 original logo designs to choose from and unlimited changes until you are pleased with the results. A reputable company will provide concepts for business cards, envelopes and letterheads as well. You should also expect to receive a minimum of three concepts for each type of stationery.

An experienced business logo design company will have more than one designer working on a project. Simple jobs require two to four designers, and complex jobs require a larger team of designers. A team is necessary because each custom-made logo needs fresh ideas. If one designer were working on a large number of logos daily, he or she would eventually run out of ideas. With multiple designers, a company can produce quality logos and concepts continuously — a great perk to keep in mind when choosing a logo company. In the end, a high-priced company with one designer is no match for a reasonably priced company with multiple designers.

And finally, consider the reputation of the designer or logo design company. Look for guarantees, samples of previous work and positive reviews. Also, find someone who is willing to hear about your unique business — whether it’s via an initial phone conversation or by completing a helpful creative brief, you want to be sure you designer cares about what sets your business apart.

well for one off job it should not be, but this is going to be serial work requiring abstract and detailed illustrations for website.

ok what is your location as i may still send you pm.
Trust me, an informed designer shouldn't have problems with that. There are companies I've worked freelance with running into years now and I've never even seen the gate of the place.

I'm based in Lagos/Osun.

Anyway, if you consider working online, I'll be interested.

Thank you.

@erad
There is really nothing constructive or tangible for the artist to take away from ur responses to help him become a better designer as u put it.

I do agree that the logos could do with improvement (as could your work or mine, or all of us) if u point out specific areas, it would help the artist at least understand ur point...not a blanket condemnation that comes across as discouraging. My thots.

@grand
A logo is more than just a visual element. Even if it's for a fictitious company, if u share the qualities of the fictitious brands and what u wished to capture, then I can have a basis for rating.

For example, the Kimberly Lawyers colour scheme doesn't speak of a law firm to me, but it is possible that it belongs to a woman whose favourite color is pink. Why the 3-pointed ninja-like shuriken image? Is it owned by three major partners? Is it a Japanese outfit?etc D design elements should be interpretative or symbolic. So more details would help me.

Pending clarification, the first image is merely an icon, easily downloadable and definitely not unique.

For d Kimberly design, personally I would either concentrate on either using the typeface as the logo OR creating an image as the logo and using a clear simple typeface for company name, NOT both, especially for a law firm. I would also choose a formal font to convey an official, legal feeling.

Generally, I would also ask myself if there is a single standalone element that could be used to represent the brand I am selling, and build my design around that. Simplicity rules! My thots.
Hmmm... wow. Did you read my initial input at all? There was no where I condemned him, all I did was encourage him in the most supportive way possible.

Bro, please forget about rating for now. Go back to the drawing board and practice more. Read more and conduct more research. The potential is there.
In my defence for my initial advice. I just thought it's impossible for one to grow if they keep trying to seek the approval of others on their designs. People will say a lot of things that you might even get to question if you are in the right profession.

This is branding, it's one of the most technical aspects of graphics design. I only gave an advice I'll appreciate anyone else to give me. I'm sorry if it came off as condemnation, I'll never condemn anyone especially someone I feel is trying to be better at what they do.

Note: I didn't even criticize you and you are so offended. what then happens when the real hardcore critics(most can't even draw a straight line on a computer) decide to have your time?

All the best. Once again, my sincere apologies.

That's not the point. Fake or real company, the logo designs up there are not worth any sane person's hard earned money or time.

Please be specific and present some proof.

Dear OP, I'd like to know which platform you used in executing these lovely images.
I am currently using Adobe Photoshop Cs4 and I must confess, the platform makes my designs look like an amateur's. Can you please tell me the best platform to use so I can begin learning. Thanks
First thing in design is to know the relevant softwares and what they can do.

Adobe photoshop is mostly suitable for raster designs. E.g, web banners, online media, socia media adverts, etc. basically designs that you don't intend to print.

Adobe illustrator on the other hand is a vector software. It is suitable and recommended for logo designs.

Corel draw is also a vector software and can also be used for logo designs.

I do my logo designs on adobe illustrator and do their presentation with adobe photoshop.

Hope I was able to be of some help.

That's basically the best way to improve and have a portfolio at the same time.

Hi guys,

We are here again to provide members of Arts and Graphics section on Nairaland an opportunity to showcase their works, in this case logo designs.
As usual, Its not for comparison purposes or to spite anyone, just a thread where designers can exhibit their logos and members, guests, fellow designers and potential clients can access, admire, constructively criticize your works and know how to contact you for your services now or later.

Just like the last time, some rules apply for organization purposes.

*All designers will have a maximum of four(4) attachments only.
*Each attachment will have a 800px by 200px dimension.
*The first attachment must carry the designer's logo only as well as his/her contact details if he/she thinks it's necessary.
*The other three(3) attachments will contain maximum of four(4) logos each for clarity purpose in no particular order.
*All designs submitted must be the genuine work of the designer submitting it, any forgery or false claims will lead to deleting the affected post.

Designers are advised to pick out the best of their best designs to better impress visitors and potential clients. No text here, just your designs speaking for you.

Have fun.
