Foot patrols isn't practical in the northeast as these guys cover as much as 50-80km per day. Borno state is very wide and wild, with settlements far from each other, for example the distance between Marte and Dikwa is close to 40km and that's among the shortest routes, it will take forever to patrol on foot and most of the time the purpose for the patrols is to ensure safety of commuters on the roads and to also protect supply routes as the strategy adopted by the military has isolated settlements in a way that supply routes need to be constantly protected.

As has been suggested on this forum several times, there need to be significant distances between vehicles in a convoy so as to avoid the whole convoy getting into ambush at once. This way, the other vehicles can either pull back or move faster towards the ambushed portion of the patrol to help out whenever there is an ambush but this can only work out where there is effective communication. The whole convoy could still be ambushed if the terrorists spread themselves out enough and can communicate and coordinate themselves into attacking multiple parts of the convoy at once, they can break the convoy into several units that they can pick on separately.
Sending scout parties on high speed bikes could help regarding this.

We should also look at increasing the number of armored vehicles in each convoy. This will give some of the troops enough confidence to collect themselves and try to salvage the situation.

Lastly, training on how to defend in ambush should be reinforced, it is very difficult for troops to remain calm and collected during ambush but with intense training, it will actually work a lot in their favor.
Training will help but when you are on guard or off guard and you hear the first bang, disorder takes places. First human reaction.

why don't thier friend in the other vehicles come back to help them... Then secondly... 20 soldiers .. that tells us about 3 to 4 vehicles were simultaneously attacked ..if Rich4gold suggestion was implemented such damage wouldn't have been feasible.
Getting three vehicles in an ambush depends on planning and timing.
They not picking their friends may be because in an ambush you are not expected to stop. You fight your way out immediately.

Especially an IED ambush. The first seconds of an ambush record the highest fatalities

I'd suggest better route planning, better contingency plans & mounted patrol drills
Route planning, mounted patrol using mrap

Let's even forget about sending foot soldiers ahead.
If the convoy is like 3-4 Hilux, then they shld be like 3 or even 4 kilometres apart. That way, the ambushes can't catch all the vehicles, given the once at the back or at the front ample time to organise and respond.

Except if our army are foolish enough to be sending out soldiers in patrol with just one Hilux.
Ambush is a hit and run tactics, the enemy now know how to be at the highest advantage point, the army do send out more that 3 patrol vehicle but the enemy have spotters, that watch this convoy movement, the army move with spacing but the last vehicles are always the target. They don't strike the lead convoy

It those idiots, believed such bad things could happen to them, they wouldn't have gone that way initially....I'm changing the narrative for them.
Where then do you draw the line.
I don't think you know what the weight if jungle Justice is. A young boy was accused of stealing garri from a store, guess what happened to him, he was burnt alive. He was about 6 years or so, happened in Lagos. If you search nairaland well you may come across the story.
If we don't all sit up and condemn why is bad we would end up being victim of the consequence one day.

I understand the point sizzaokay is making. Jungle Justice is bad and it occurs because our emotions have overwhelmed critical thinking. The same way someone will justify the burning of armed robbers, pick pocket and many more. Just because they feel they have caused them emotional pain and physical distress. It is also important to note that sometime it may be false accusation, which cannot be confirmed or investigated. But again the disbelief in the Justice system and loopholes everywhere in our constitution has made some people decide that Justice can't be found in our judiciary system, same way some people use the saying Justice delayed is Justice denied.
Jungle Justice only makes one barbaric

Who here has operated with airforce ground forces/sf, how effective is their training in terms of tactics and how sound are they? Are the training realistic in enough to make them understand how easy you can get killed if you loose your nerves under fire and is this drilled in them, and in what scenarios are live bullets used during their drills? I ask this, because during contacts/ operations they seem to loose high number of personnel compared to the navy SBS, infact the SBS has a reputation of getting job done with minimal casualties, and I have seen a bit of their training, in SBS training you can easily get killed if you flinch, because you are given a task to accomplish under live fire, we are talking bullets hitting 2 fleets from you during training.
Don't underestimate anyone tgat has been properly trained, the NAF training is standard and it is working for them. The sbs and naf Panthers training are different. There is a story of one of them NAF Panthers maintaining composure after taking a bullet to the head with Kevlar helmet, the thing Pierce the helmet. Man later killed is enemy

Even if the president is crazy to the extent of borrowing to buy all these, especially for the navy, the recurrent cost will almost bankrupt the country. What's the current budget deficit? What percentage of the budget goes into debt servicing? For a government that has huge plans for infrastructure development (rail, new oil rigs, refineries, power sector etc) I doubt that will be possible.
With the infrastructure drive for 2022 I doubt if they would get more but it is possible, something on this list might be suspended

It is the government duty to counter false information within the ambits of democracy.
I was wondering why the government have not tried to sue a media outlet for putting out fake news but sometimes this media guys are creative when it comes to bending the law. You point them in the direction but don't go with them. Then let the people make the point for you and draw their conclusions
Imagine the damage to ethnic divide when I say something like : NAVY BASE IN THE NORTH, WHERE THERE IS NO WATER.
Make this a topic of discussion with no unbaised analyst in the house and see OAP's and biased citizens draw conclusions that the north are leeching on the south

The media is not fanning any coal. They are raising your awareness to the fact that there is an issue to be addressed. They are telling you yesterday 2 kids were killed today 5 were killed, things are getting very bad and things need to be done about it.
I never said they should not raise awareness concerning this issues but I maintain my stand that they are fanning the flame of disunity and insecurity.
When you don't pay attention to a plant(bandit's) it automatically dies and when you spray insecticides around them the weed dies(aspirant), same again if you pay attention to the plant, you will nurture it and it will grow the way you want it to, you design it the way you want, you take charge of the narrative.
In a few you to come I believe we will all realise how much damage we have done to our country.

True. The media don't see themselves in the light of the national pledge; "to defend her(Nigeria) unity and uphold her honor and glory"

P.S I'm not asking for a tame, chorus singing media of
Until they understand that they are part of the building process they will continue to miss the point for development and unity. That is why I like OAP Sadiq from Lagos talks, man will correct you once you start twisting facts and also probe your idea

Somethings are not going to stop by the bullet but they can be suppressed, the ARMED FORCES are being engaged in multiple front and they are trying to make themselves available at every point regardless of how strain they are. The little the media would have done concerning non state actors and bandits was become a force.
There are ways to write news and the bandit will become the coward that they are even if the armed forces are killing them in two.
Let say the armed forces killed four bandit today, the hype from the media could help discourage young people who want to buy into the idea.

You would prefer to live in a country where genocide and mass killings are not reported?

You didn't make sense with this post. Why is Nigeria not always looking to be among countries that solved their problems but always looking to be among countries that have problem...
Seems what I wrote got across to you wrongly, well let me put it this way you don't fan a coal and expect the fire to go out. Instead of fanning the issue with constant attention and showing that this guys are gaining why not condemned and create a false fear about the country and it forces, this works more psychologically (person wey everybody dey hail fir street, you go get full mind go fight am).
You fanned the coal and got more flame

This bandit issue is not only in Nigeria, Kenya and some other African country also have the same problem. But the fact that the media gave ours so much attention made it a big issue

On hindsight, I thank God they did that. I don't wanna be the intelligence guys just skulking around at night listening to what the enemies are saying.
I wanna be the boot on the ground who knocked down the enemies door and hang him with his own d!ck tongue

I wish I could chief...but I will like to still be on Nairaland undecided

On a not so classified info tho...any ISWAP vs Boko Haram clash you hear in the news is definitely a DSS FORCE FLAG grin a melodrama to pitch the two sides against the other. The real clash between the two factions you never get to hear in the news. Because we're there finishing off the survivors tongue

Word on marbel: never ever ever joke with the DSS.
They don't trust nobody. Heck, they don't even trust themselves grin the one in my unit always check and recheck the itinerary I gave out.
One morning I woke up and he was gone. I reported MIA. 5 days later I reported it as desertion...as protocol required. I got a signal that I should carry on. Sometimes later, I saw him back in FOB dressed up as a doctor grin going on some clandestine shite. He wanted to apologize for the way he left my unit but I just shush it...I already understand.
I love them DSS ops very smart and brave guys but I fear them cheesy

Hey D!

I started a new module today and it contains a brief intro to JavaScript and man! JavaScript isn't childsplay I must confess, but I'll be fine though. cool cool

I learned the following:
1. How to add a backdrop.
2. How to add a modal.
3. How to link a JavaScript file to the HTML file.
4. How to access any property, element or attribute in our html file and override its value using JavaScript.
5. How to add an event listener to our JavaScript file.

The whole JavaScript concept got me lost at some point, I've had to watch the videos several times, grin grin I guess I'll need to dwell on them for a while.

Later D.
I also ran away from this JavaScript but waiting for the best time to attack it either with a mentor or alone
