yeah from Lebron haters. A40 and majority of peeps on this thread were the once that came for my poor-head.

Eruditor wasn't among at all. Im even surprised he shared identical opinion as i did concerning the hoax that kawhi overshadowed lebron in that finals. I felt his silence was because me and him weren't in a good place then. I was still serving my punishment/suspensions off his mentions he gave me grin.

In fact he left me there kneeling down, raising my hands and closing my eyes like those seniors that forgot they left a juniour under punishment. grin

Most I could do was take notes from his brilliant posts from my exile, both the ones I agree with and I do not.

End of the day, this is the most beautiful/brilliant basket ball family and forum iv ever come across in my life.

Grateful to mynd44 for putting this together.

And the beauty/passion of lolawilliams that attracted me here in the first place.

Mehn, you are right at the emboldened. LOL. But on a real though, I read every post here and I learn a lot from everyone. Even when I agree with some aspects of some posts I have to maintain my stance because disagreements spice up the thread.

I learnt that the media also have some big stake in who plays In the all star game so even if Zaza gather reach 5million he may not make the all stars.
Lol Calm down. I can dislike someone and still be objective. If you read my posts even before the playoffs I kept saying Lebron was waay ahead of Curry but everyone knows I like Curry better.

Be that as it may, there is a difference between people claiming Kawhi did a job on him and arguing that Lebron should have been MVP of that game. I disagree with both. wink

Since his move, Kylie Korver has been the best player for Cavs in the past 2 games. I don't know what haters are talking about. 2 points against Jazz and 2 points against the Blazers that were very huge. I think they have found their missing piece towards actualizing their back-to-back ambitions. GSW should be worried on the 17th.

Can Kerr do what D'Antoni is doing right now with the rockets?
Better. But people will turn around and say "after all he had a good team" like they are saying now.

95/96 Spurs are top seeds in the West.
96/97 Robinson is injured and SAS go 20-62. Pop is hired.
97/98 Duncan is drafted
98/99 SAS win a ring

Credit Pop. Change this story and put Kerr for Pop. (No credit to Kerr he inherited a good team).

Game 6 was in Miami. It was a 2-3-2 format. The Heat had home court so last 2 games were on their floor.

Everybody expected Golden state to win 1 game at least to seal the deal. With home advantage. Remember also that even the year Golden State won it was without Kyrie and Love. Still it took a film guy for Kerr to know he needed to make adjustments after Game 3.

In 2000 and 2004 who stopped them? Shaq and Kobe's Lakers not some moi moi team. If not for Pop that Laker team was doing a 4peat easily. Scratch 2015 too. Duncan Ginobili ought to have retired after revenging against the Heat. They were ooold bruh
Yes kerr defers a lot and always deflects praises from himself. That's just his humility at work. Some other coach may turn down the advice and win with more difficulty but usurp all the praise. Part of what the back to back losses (very close games BTW) against Cavs help Kerr do was find out another way to win and he did exactly that. Conte (could have gotten his recent tactical ideas from his house boy too) but it is the string of 13 wins we see that we admire.

You are right at 2-3-2 but I remember vividly that champagnes were being arranged, balloons blown, tapes and curtains set-up for a Spurs party in game 6 that was not to be. Whether GSW had done same in games 5 or 7 we can never tell..lol

As for Shaq and Kobe that 2004 team got gentlemanly swept by Detroit and then Pop will come back to beat that Pistons team in 7 the following year. So it is easy to see that he perhaps did not manage his team sufficiently enough to beat the Lakers of 2004-and that's my point.

I have no doubt that Pop is number 1 but I am convinced Kerr is the clear number 2. You can read this article (it is a bit prolix but interesting).

Gossssh, at times like these I realise how much I miss being at opposite sides with you. Your humour is brilliant grin grin grin

Now on another note, Kerr to me had nothing to do with Golden states loss to cavs.
Lebron stepped up and warriors choked.

Anyone who discredits Kerr for golden states loss should also credit Lue for cavs victory, which I would never be a party to.

Where I place Kerr close to pop is in terms of his philosophy he brought to the game. I hear people saying they had seen the same from Antonini in pheonix. But then again I tell them look deeper and in between the lines you must see the disparities.

I kind of feel Pop's success has more to do with his longivity and playoffs appearance consistencies than philosophy/innovations he brought to the game. While Kerr's success is the exact contrast.

When your philosophy in the same team is at its best, your worst seasons shouldn't be first round exists or having seasons whereby you just make the playoffs and not compete for titles.

The philosophy Kerr initiated to warriors, the very first time we all saw them top the conference and win the title two seasons ago, I guess we all concluded in our hearts that that team would be title contenders for the next 5 to 7 years.
Not becos they had the best players. But because it would take that long for other teams to:
1) duplicate their system
2) catch up with their system
The above were the exact things the world said in their minds the very first season pep guadiola coached barca to win all contested tournaments.

Same was said of said of Manchester united and Ferguson the very first season he brought in 7players from junior team to the first team and won his first title.
Does anyone want to tell me he or she said the same of pop the very first season he led spurs to the title 1999.
Philsophy is very strong amongst every other criteria. It should protect you from having stretches of average or poor seasons(with the same team).

Lastly, it takes a good manager to manage the affairs of a company in person.
But it takes a greater manager for the company to be well managed even in his absence. All that has to be done is maintain all he brought in.
Partly credit Kerr for Luke's success while the former was away.

Let Golden states do what they are doing for the next 10years first, then we can all sit down and talk if Kerr brought something special to the team and the game or not.
I guess like me some others were unhappy GSW blew a 3-1 lead but what many don't seem to realize is that no one can really stop Lebron. Teams generally try to limit the influence he will wield on the other players surrounding him and that's what GSW could not do while they choked. Kyrie was putting big numbers as well and others like JR and Tristan were helping here and there. There was not much to do especially when the best player on the other side was incredibly subpar.

Even Pop could not contain LBJ. In the 2014 season where everyone exaggeratedly claims Kawhi did a job on Lebron, Kawhi averaged 17.8 ppg to Lebron's 28ppg. In fact the top scorer of the playoffs for SAS was Parker with 18 ppg (in other words both did not even score as well as Curry did) yet they basically swept Miami.

What am I trying to say is, some great players cannot be contained and one can only hope they have less help as much as possible and that is exactly what happened to GSW last year. But Kerr gets all the stick for it and when Pop makes a mistake we present his longevity and 5 rings to excuse it.

Pop is one of the best of all times and no current coach working comes close,i just don't like the way man treats reporters sometimes.
My own argument is not even whether anyone comes close to him or not- it is that even a great coach like Pop can make mistakes. So they can cut Kerr some slack. That 67 wins of last year was Pop's first. Kerr did it Rookie season. Any rookie coach can beat anyone when they have Lebron. And they can win any series when refs and the NBA join forces to help Lebron grin

Curry had potentials and good stat line before Kerr came on board.
But Kerr made him a weapon on mass destruction. That's the difference.
Do you really notice the spacing curry's presence makes available in golden states offence.

Opponents have to marking him like 2 to 3 feet away from the arc. Such science is unheard of in basket ball.
And usually, most times a player is useful that early in an offence or that far off from the basket, what happens is that he is not directly involved in the made point. At most situations, he is involved in the pass that led to the assist that led to the points.
But being that far away and directly involved in ending the offence is very difficult. It shows the player has covered a lot of space and usage.
Ending in points shows your usage-rate is at par with your efficiency.

I'm not a fan of golden states.
But iv hardly seen better ball movement in my life.
Kerr brought this to on board.
No coach can make a great player great but a bad coach can stifle a great player's growth. Many don't seem to realize that.

Totally agree.
When I saw all the innovations Steve instantly brought to warriors. My memory instantly went to what Guadiola brought to Barca.
What Steve did to Curry is identical to what pep did to messi.

Efficiency meeting entertainment, Precision meeting quickness.
Usually, it should take a team like 20 to 24 seconds to execute the kind of offence golden state executes. But it takes them like 10 to 15 seconds at times.
This should be the most mobile team iv ever seen. Or one-of.
Against Warriors you just can't tell which player is coming off screens to take the shot.
I think he's a genius.

Even if pop is 1st, I don't think he's that far ahead of Steve. We respect pop due to logivity and having the longest playoffs-streak.
But can we call pop an innovator like Phil Jackson, or Steve or d'antonini?
One thing I had against pop was using several seasons to win a particular championship.

Pop could rebuild the spurs for years towards winning one title. Then stay average/competitive for years, then resurface again to compete for the title.

Kerr's style and innovations to the game would always keep his team as title contenders more consistently than pop did for spurs.
I agree with almost everything here (perhaps apart from innovator as I believe Pop is). But the bolded aspect is right. He is too methodical and sometimes boring. That's a weakness to his style to me.

Baba capitulation get levels oh. You no fit compare that Spurs own at all. The Spurs had 2 road games leading 3-2. The Warriors led 3-1 with 2 home games to play. And the Spurs were a much older team
The reality is Spurs had dominated Heats in that series until the final miracle shots of Tony Allen. In game 6, the organisers had been shown already setting up the post game ceremony because everyone thought Spurs had them in Texas but it wasn't to be. I cannot take anything from Pop but I can categorically say more people expected Spurs to win Heats in game 6 than they expected GSW to beat Cavs in game 5 (Bogut and Green out). Maybe I am just nitpicking but that's a fact. Also recall 2000, 2004, 2006, 2015 are some of the years pundits expected Spurs to repeat as champs but they flailed and failed. I remember Memphis sweeping them at some point. Coaches can make mistakes.

yeah maybe you aren't looking closely enough, but uhh the thing is how do I place Kerr at number 2 after that woeful performance against Cleveland last year? Some of his rotations were quite bizarre. Perhaps, he is still young to this coaching of a thing.

No doubt if he wins this year, he would be in my top 5
Mehn, I was equally disappointed at the capitulation but it will be lazy to place everything on the coach. Pop also capitulated against a Miami team in 2013 but his response in 2014 was the highlight of the whole seeming debacle and eventual success.

Curry already averaged 22ppg and 24ppg with 8.5apg before Kerr came on board.

Curry already broke 3pts record before Kerr came on board

Curry was an All Star and was in All NBA second team before Kerr came on board.

The Warriors already had potential which Kerr took advantage of.

Curry is his hard work not Kerr's
The same argument can be made of any great (Jordan, Kobe etc.) but I am sleep. I do however cannot guarantee at this juncture that Curry was an All star before Kerr but even if he was, I guess Curry would have been Rookie of the year had Kerr coached him in 09 as against finishing second.

LOL @ NBA. It has acted as a buffer for me I swear.

FIFA have finally achieved their plan of making CR7 just under Messi with his 4th WPOTY. I hope Madridistas will rest now. I am not buying that rubbish about what Portugal or RM achieved. If that were the case, perhaps Pepe should have been top 3 in the world since he plays in the same teams with CR7 and arguably had the same contribution (defensively).

My happiness is, it will give Messi the necessary impetus to go for a 6th (which he will get if we win the UCL). So all hands should be on deck to getting that UCL.

If he keeps passing up shots an averaging 14ppg will he be MVP? If he keeps throwing behind the back passes that don't hit the target? What about if he did not have the freedom to launch some of his long distance threes? What if he was not the primary scorer for the team (like he isn't this season)?

I see your point however you have to factor in that some coach gave him the freedom that his talent deserved.

Golden state was elite with Mark Jackson, I think it is unfair to mark Jackson to say that. He like Kerr I believe could have won more given the chances, Although, maybe not a ring, but somewhat close. This Golden State team almost ran out spurs out of the gym in the playoffs four years ago after beating George Karl team. Though Kerr did made the team what it is today, I believe Jackson would have done the same thing.
Mark tried but I think he lost his dressing room and he could not take them to the level they are at now.

Pop has made use of many HOFers to achieve his visions but for some reason (like you pointed out) people give him his full credit and not Kerr.

Kerr is doing the exact thing: in the last 3 years, GSW has been an elite team in the NBA and the only common factor has been Kerr. After all, Draymond, Lee, Curry and Klay were on Mark Jacksons team and they were not elite- not yet.

Explaining to him that spending almost 2 mins to celebrate an equalizer against "BOURNEMOUTH" was comical is a waste of time. I think it buttresses what critics of AFC have against us, the performance expectation is low for many AFC fans.

Some fans celebrate irrelevant victories that do not change the fortunes of the club. If he spent 2 mins celebrating a winner, that is totally different. In this instance he is elaborating a celebration for an equalizer with minutes to spare for a winner against BOURNEMOUTH!!!!!!, in a game we were horrendous and grossly dominated.
No bro. From the point Giroud scored to when he went back for the kick-off was exactly 19seconds. That's what Keky is alluding to and I agree with him. (You can use the match time to calculate it).

In other words, the celebration did not take a significant amount of time from the clock.

I still believe Steve Kerr is not a better coach than Luke Walton. My opinion!!
He is. LOL.

Steve is the 2nd best coach in the NBA. He is just behind Pop. Make no mistakes, all coaches have their own individual flaws. Steve is no exception.

I think he gets flaks because people feel he has a talented squad. But some other coach had handled this team before and did not get to a conference final let alone win it. The present GSW that we all admire is a direct product of Steve's coaching. It is part of why he was given the job. He had drafted a plan to the board of GSW detailing exactly what he could do to make them a championship winning side and he has achieved that. Along the way he has garnered some records that even Phil and Pop are yet to achieve. For instance, Steve notched up 150 wins in a way faster time than both. Also, in 3 seasons of coaching Steve after 35 games had a record of 30-5, 33-2, 30-5 again. It is more than the talents at his disposal- He has a system that is attractive and works.

Many don't know that Steve fought by all means for Phoenix to draft Curry in 2009 when he was their GM. He believed so much in Curry even when the NBA did not. It was no coincidence that he hopped at the opportunity to coach Curry. Like Skip Bayless, Kerr felt Curry and not Griffin should have been drafted first. Guess posterity has proven him right. BTW Steve made Curry a 2-time MVP which Mark Jackson could never have done. Pop (for all his greatness) is yet to make Kawhi that.

They say students are usually a product of the teachers they have had. What do people expect from Steve he was coached by Phil and Pop (perhaps 2 of the best coaches ever). Steve is primed to be in the same mold.

Relax there has been much ado about nothing. Dude is 45 years old. He said he does not see himself coaching till he is 60 or 65, I wonder how you all skipped that part and settled for retirement.

15 years from now will make him 60. Not every manager hopes to stay on like Wenger or Fergie. For goodness sake Wenger lost a marriage because of coaching. To some managers coaching is their life while to some others not so much.

As per Treble and what not: even if he does, to you, he will still be overhyped. So stop with the pretence. It is always great to pick a run of wins like CFC have done but regardless of how many points behind other teams are, ask yourself, WHEN is the right time to pick those wins. Experience makes me reckon between February and May (as that is when league titles are won).

What a team likely to win the league does is to hope they are around the top 3 and just a little points away from the top by then to stand a chance. After all, did you not see how Tottenham capitulated last season?
