SmooshCHN:I agree and the fact that it was on their home court sweetens me the most. KD 5/17 Steph no single 3 and the score line could have been worse against the Clippers. That's great improvement on D coupled with great passing. We are at Salt Lake tomorrow a court Klay and Steph always struggle on and I understand we won't travel with Iggy and Shaun. I hope we find a way to beat them sha, the Jazz are defensively solid. |
airmark:Don't get carried away. He has already been voted and because of that someone said the award overrated him. Telling me again that players who voted know why they voted is moot. You cannot claim you know why they voted, hence why I raised other possible reasons. For instance, Messi can play from now till tomorrow and if Fergie is asked to vote for WPOTY he would vote CR7. It will always be subjective. Same can be said about Pep and Messi. So come back to the discussion, don't get carried away by pretentious hecklers that know a little above nothing. Mata didn't win a league title, UCL, CDR etc the year Iniesta did all those. I thought we agreed we must consider individual contributions alongside team achievements or else was Kaka WPOTY simply because he outscored CR7 and Messi in 07? Come on! |
airmark:You weren't supposed to introduce voting because it is subjective. People can vote Kaka because he is handsome and born-again. We must analyse things purely analytically so we can make room for the fact that he could have been overrated. I know Kaka beat CR7 when they met, similar to how Sneijder beat Messi and went on to outscore and out-assist him in both UCL and WC yet Messi won WPOTY and Sneijder didn't make top 3. Even in 2014, when Messi was voted player of the WC tournament he rightly rejected it because he knew he did not do enough to deserve it. He knew he was being overrated WRT the tournament. That doesn't mean he wasn't great even in it. So again, players voting someone is not a sure-fire proof that the person "deserved" what they voted him for or that what they voted him for doesn't overrate him. Anyways, I like how you said "a player like Iniesta is overrated based on your analysis". So based on A40s analysis, Kaka cannot be overrated? No, he can. He can if he is mediocre in all competitions bar one. He can if the only reason he is not, is because he was voted for it. |
A40:You should not have mentioned me oh. They said you were ignoring me. What else will they use to insult me now? ![]() The highlited part is so true and funny ![]() |
airmark:That very same season, Totti scored 26 goals and had 9 assists (Top scorer and Top assist man). His team AS Roma also finished in 2nd position whereas Kaka's team finished 4th. BTW Kaka had 6 assists that season not 7 he was 15th on the assist log. Totti had a stronger case to be the Serie A player of the year according to the very same stats some other person on this thread wanted to use against Cristiano. Can we now conclude that Kaka finishing above Totti, flattered his performances in Serie A that year? What that translates to is that Kaka got more credit than his performances deserved. Which means he was overrated that season in Serie A in this context. @Iniesta, I don't know the year you are referring to for Iniesta. In 08/09 and 09/10 Messi was the LFP player of the year and he had more goals and assists combined than any other player whose team won a title. So Iniesta would not have deserved it had he won it those years- in fact, winning it would have overrated his contributions to Barca's success those years (at least when compared with Messi)- and thank heavens he did not. So Kaka did not win a league title. Nor did he win the cup. However, he won the UCL. Sneijder won the cup, league and UCL as well as getting to the final of a WC. Since, Mou who was Sneijder's coach at the time was adjudged coach of the year, yet his best player, Sneijder, wasn't adjudged WPOTY. Can we agree that whoever won that title that year did not deserve to win it? In other words, Messi winning the WPOTY 10/11 was overrating his achievements that year (even if Messi received more votes than Sneijder) From the fore-going can we conclude that a player's achievements for a year could be overrated even if the said player is 1. So why is it flawed for anyone to say a player could be great and still be overrated? 2. Why is it 'flawed' for anyone to say Kaka was overrated in 07 when he only performed spectacularly in 1/3 tournaments that he featured in said season? NB: I am here because some people said anyone who makes both claims is waffling. I am showing you how someone can make both claims (which you don't need to agree with) but it does not mean the person is wrong. |
AdisaOwala:Finally settled for option 2 init? ![]() |
airmark:I goofed. Now please answer the Kaka question. Thanks. |
AdisaOwala:This is actually unfair. You where in a cul-de-sac. There were 2 options left: cop out or use invectives. It is the nairaland tradition na. |
airmark:Even for you, this is escapist. I thought someone else adduced Ronaldo's 3 CL goals as a reason he did not deserve WPOTY 07 and I agreed with the person. Please justify Kaka's 8 goals in 31 games with a 4th place finish as Serie A man of the year. PS: You can't say he won it because of votes. (That is a cyclical argument regardless of if resident trolls disagree). You are the google proponent here I am sure you'd have looked it up. What I want is logical consistency. If Ronaldo's 3 goals were insufficient why should Kaka's 8 goals be? Remember, the end point is to prove that popularity votes CAN overrate a player's ability or achievements. |
Nihilist:Hahahaha. Hehehehehe. 15 likes. 200 shares. You are not nice. You have no chill. ROTFLMAO. After that, what else? |
bi0nics:A: I think people who commit murder should be given the death sentence. B: Why? A: Well, because people who kill others deserve to die themselves. This is called fallacy of circular reasoning. B: Kaka deserves to be the best because the votes say he is the best. E: But why do the votes say so? He only played well in competition X he was average in competition Y and Z. B: Who do you think should have won it? E: I won't join issues WRT that. I just think that best player to Kaka overrates what he actually achieved in the said year. In competition Y his team didn't win a pin and he scored only 8 goals. Why was he still voted best player in competition Y? B: First tell me who should have been the best player? E: Ok CR7, now tell me why Kaka won best player in competition Y without achieving anything in it? B: Your judgement is wack. I can't take you seriously. You are confused like Mourinho. *goes on to justify his claim through votes again* Kaka- 1Billion votes Messi- 504 CR7- 426 E: ![]() |
AdisaOwala:I am happy it is your last post on the issue. It has been painstaking needing to redirect you to the logic that 'herd mentality' does not let some people on this thread see. I can understand if my analogies were flying over you like airplanes. If you took deep breaths too perhaps you may have understood some of them. For e.g, you see how you asked if Columbia won the WC? Good, that is the question I asked about Kaka and Serie A yet he was adjudged best player in Serie A of 2007 and someone may use a screenshot from Wikipedia to show it to me without considering that he proves Kaka was being overrated at least in Serie A for that particular year. You are a good sport I'd give you that. At least you did not resort to vitriol to hide illogic the way some others did. |
airmark:You gave up when you could not answer the question on Kaka that is why I LOLed. I said CR7 for two reasons: it was a bait to get you to answer the question on Kaka which you skillfully dodged. Tuale! The second reason I mentioned CR7 was to show you that holding onto one competition as the sole reason a player should be WPOTY is hollow and that is the kind of process that begot Kaka. Also, choosing not to use invectives doesn't mean you alone reserve that right. I avoided it as well because you don't need to take everything personal. |
AdisaOwala:Guess what? I agree with you. Same way A40 cannot now be amiss to bring up Kaka's 8 Serie A goals and 4th place finish. I know the UCL is a bigger tournament. But you agree too that James Rodriguez shouldn't have been WPOTY 2014 simply because he scored 6 goals in the WC or that Gotze shouldn't have been player of the year simply because he "outperformed" Messi in the WC final that same year. If James was now voted WPOTY like Cannavaro was in 06 can't we say he was overrated? I think that's the argument A40 is trying to make. That just because Kaka outperformed everyone in the UCL of 07 despite having a mediocre league season shouldn't have been enough to put him in the pantheon of WPsOTY. |
Nihilist:Yes I did. The people I mentioned responded. You are the architect of minding your business I don't know why you responded. I didn't mention you. If I wanted to have a conversation with a woman on her period I can get them around me. Nobody gives a rat's arse about my opinion but you keep responding to it. Talk about irony. The people I am conversing with, regardless of their predisposed biases are still keeping it relatively civil. If you hate yourself I don't need to be your punching bag. This is becoming groupie stuff. At this rate if someone says "In Eruditor's name you'd say Amen" |
airmark:LOL. Just as I suspected. Christiano IMO deserved it. Ok please now answer my question. |
Nihilist:Even the women in my life don't seek my attention this much. You get all the ooouus and likes you want and it still doesn't satisfy you. "Stoopid, fool, obtuse, mumu" for someone who barely makes a post at you. Are you unhappy with your personal life? Where is all this vitriol coming from? I thought you accused me of arguing with myself. What do you think you are doing now? I told you, you have got jokes and I mean it in the most deserving way. FYI I clearly stated that Ronaldinho lived up to his WPOTY 04 status in 05 and that his post WPOTY 04 performance (especially in the following year) convinced someone like me who felt he was undeserving of it just the year before. You are so quick to point out who reads and who comprehends well so I am assuming you'd figure out what to call yourself following this. |
airmark:Like I keep saying this does not need to be another Us vs them argument. You can see the point without coloring it with your own perspective or dismissing it willy-nilly because the same can be done to your own point. 1. For instance, saying something is not feasible is not a tenable way to argue because it is feasible (and you gave one instance where it could be the case) and then insisted that it is the only instance that could warrant the case. In logical terms this is flawed. There are more situations where the fatest man in the world could have a perennially slower time than others. That's not even the essence of the analogy, the simple question following it is will such a person be less-deserving of the term? NB: Accepting a tag doesn't mean I can not feel the title overrates the person. 2. You reeled out Kaka's awards but I didn't see Serie A player of the year 2007 which I know he was awarded that same year. His team was 4th and he scored 8 goals in 31 games yet he was rated the best. Is that not also overrating his performances at least in the serie A that year? Do you expect the best player in serie A to have such a miniscule nearing insignificant impact on his league like Kaka did that year? So why is A40 being impugned for mentioning Kaka's serie A fiasco as part of his reason for him being overrated? |
airmark:I am not going to join issues WRT to who was deserving of the award in 07. Suarez has already told you people that it is a popularity contest. Please, see my view point. If down the line say 4 years from now some X athlete wins the 100M dash in the olympics with a time say 11:04 secs and is crowned fastest man in the world, can I be allowed to say he is less-deserving of such an appellation compared to previous winners? Or as Ronaldinho was awarded WPOTY in 2004 (which I felt should have been Henry) if he went on to play like Kaka did post-2007 won't I be allowed to say he was overrated? I am sure many of us that questioned Dinho's first WPOTY award felt he lived up to his billing subsequently. Now I am saying this to show you how someone's subsequent performances can act as validation for if he is rated rightly or overrated. |
airmark:Your logic is sound but your intentions, iffy. It must not be an airmark vs A40 argument all the time. I can accept that Porto were crowned UCL winners of 04 and still feel that even within that year winning the UCL (and by extension being adjudged best team in Europe) was over -deserving. Same way I can accept that Kaka was crowned WPOTY in 07 and still feel it overrates him. If I choose to make my argument based on the quality of previous and subsequent winners of the same award I am not out of place whether the sport section bellicose crew agree with it or not. |
AdisaOwala:Don't borrow their agbero style. You started civil keep it civil. I have no reputation to protect on nairaland. 1. If you say it is a relative thingy then what right do you arrogate to yourself to decide whether being great precludes being overrated. Again, I am saying that is my area of concern. 2. The issue of him being overrated can still come up within the ambits of him getting more credit than he deserves as well as when he is juxtaposed with other previous WPsOTY. If A40 makes a claim, he is allowed to set the limits of his claim. If he did so WRT comparing Kaka to other WPsOTY, then I agree with him. 3. Haba, how can you intentionally miss the point about those examples? All I am saying is, in those examples, the media and Mou were giving the respective players more credit than they deserved. In A40s case, Kaka being adjudged WPOTY in 07 was an overestimation. "Appropriate bodies" is moot. It is still subjective voting that is done. |
Nihilist:Don't worry I have noticed you. It is not my time you will waste. I will argue my ability to read with you on NL because life begins and ends here. This information I am giving is free of charge and what you choose to do with it is your prerogative: I have no horse in this race. I came to explain to Adisa how someone can be great and still be overrated. As for your illogic on media and Messi I am guessing that Messi had not won several WPOTY awards compared to a fledgling Rooney? If someone is not the best in the world (by any standard) but you claim he is, are you not giving him more credit than he deserves? The English word for that is overrating. See how you used "stoopid", "bollocks" "where do they pick this people from?" to qualify someone's posts or his person who didn't attack or even mention you. In the same breath you were throwing shades at those who jump into conversations and accusing another person of waffling. Hahaha Jokes for centuries. |
AdisaOwala:You are smarter than groupie trolls want to make you out to look. Perhaps, you are the one who needs to pace yourself. If Kaka is being compared to previous WPOTY winners, he probably is OVERrated. That's the argument- not whether he is great or one of the best of his time. As you can see your definition of overrated is what is clearly wrong as you have made it out to mean that A40 is arguing that he wasn't one of the best players in the world at the time. That's an argument only you are making. When the British media in 2004 started saying the English team could win the world cup (in 06) because of Rooney they were overrating him. That doesn't mean that he wasn't "one of the best players of the time". Frank Lampard said Mou would get into the dressing room circa 04/05 and tell him he is the best player in the world. Frank knew it was all a confidence booster because he knew he wasn't the best. Mou was overrating him. Doesn't mean Frank was not one of the best in the world. He was. |
AdisaOwala:Oga, the English involved is not that involved to understand. You see what I did there? I used involved twice in different contexts and both hold up perfectly in English. The synopsis of it all is, a great player can be rated far greater than he is supposed to be hence, the term OVERrated. If an award is introduced termed "greatest striker ever" and people are asked to vote but somehow Aguero wins the poll. We can safely say that award overrates him. In other words, we may accept that Aguero in his prime has been nothing short of lethal, but for any one to stretch it that far into naming him the greatest striker of all time will be overdoing it. Conclusively, if we are to critically examine Kaka as a player from when he was adjudged best player in the world to when he petered out, it will appear that the WPOTY 2007 that he won perhaps overrated him. |
SmooshCHN:I was sleeping. Just woke up now to peep the score. I don't see GSW losing another home game in a bit so I pretty much knew Pacers had it coming. Klay has always been a savage but he is appearing streaky this season and it is becoming recurrent. Notice he had the same streaky performances during the olympics too. It is tiring. We need more consistency. |
Donlittle:Hahahahaha. I agree. Dirk? At this age? Hahahaha |
This game could have been lost as easily as it was won and with a more intimidating scoreline. I think there is a hasty overcelebration on this thread perhaps because Chelsea were a goal down and didn't expect the win. They deserve their win. However, this was not about 3-4-3 but about converting chances and Chelsea did so very well. Let us give it a rest, in the last 8 games Chelsea conceded more chances today than they had in the previous 7 others put together. |
sapiosexual1: ![]() |
SIRcumalot:Klay bricked hard today. 4/20. Rockets finally snap their 8 game losing streak against the Dubs. I knew Curry's foul trouble would bite GSW somehow but I still hoped for the W because of home court. Some questionable officiating but at least this L will make them serious for the next 8 game stretch again. So it is welcome. |
Deserved L. Moving on. |
Rockets should take this L and go home now. What's their stress? |
lolawilliams:You get bragging rights for now playoffs wise. I'd leave it at that. |
